Went here this past weekend and cant believe I didnt know about this gem even though Ive lived in jersey almost forever. There are a bunch of small and longer trails. We ended up taking a shortcut from our original plan as the little ones got tired. The swinging bridge was a favorite and the rest of the trail has a good path and pretty decently marked. Though having a map def helped. Theres no crazy climbing so its perfect for all levels.
It has parking, open fields, lots of scenery, and large walking paths through the woods and into the campus area. This is a great spot to visit on a nice day.
Great place to hike! Wide open tails and if your lucky you will find a suspension bridge in the middle of the woods!
I took one of their monthly tours yesterday. It was awesome! Both guides were extremely knowledgeable. It was my second time having Kim as one of the guides. He was my guide at another historic museum down the street. He really takes the time to answer your questions! If you do the tour though, I recommend bringing bug spray or wear long sleeves. I definitely will go back again and take my wife next time.
Nice location to just walk around and enjoy nature. Gorgeous trees.
Will, the historical interpreter, made history come alive! Great tour of an incredibly important site in American history.
The battlefield guide was excellent. He brought the battle to life and painted an excellent picture. Theres not a lot in the house but I really enjoyed the whole experience.
Gorgeous simple park. Its a great picnic location. Even brought my birdies in their travel cage for some fresh air. Theres not much to do activity wise, but nonetheless its a very pretty and quiet spot.
Beautiful park for walking with babyBut is no any signs there :/
Lovely spot for a picnic or a game of frisbee. Very quiet and peaceful.
Can have a lot of bugs, some bridges need repair and few signs for trails. Beautiful views
The Mercer oak in the center imbibed with historical significance and the vast stretch of green and woods added hues to the landscape.
Need a spot to enjoy the outside during COVID? This park has parking on the side of the road, access to a walking trail, historic significance, and plenty of large trees for shade. This park is large and mostly made up of mowed grass, a perfect spot to bring a blanket and read or have a picnic.Even in the weekends during COVID, it’s got plenty of room to have a ton of social distancing.Downside? It’s next to a busy road, so parents will want to find a spot farther away. And no bathrooms.
Nice park! We had a picnic. Parking lot is rather small, but we had no problem parking on a Saturday afternoon.
The hallowed ground of the American Revolution war, where Washington won the decisive battle against the British. It is a battlefield, devoid of large buildings and grandious monuments, left like what it was, empty space for all to take in of that fateful January 3 in 1777. The field is quite suitable for walking and running. The colonnade memorial was very solemn and symbolic as it was transported from the house of General Mercer who died on this field, and in the back of this memorial was the mass grave of both British and American soldiers. The vastness of the place captured the spirit. You can easily spend an hour here.
An amazing historic place would recommend you see the tree and the war memorial on the hill
The park holds rich historical and state significance. The symbols from past eras provide a exciting view into the past. If you love history and nostalgia you will love this park
Nice trails, beautiful foliage, neat bridge!
Fantastic historic site just a few minutes from downtown Princeton. Plenty of space for a picnic or other fun gatherings.
Small but lovely park of enormous historical importance: the turning point if the Revolutionary War, where Washington was headed after he crossed the Delaware. The oak tree where general Mercer died during the battle finally have or a decade ago but is being regrown from one of its acorns. The park also connects to hundreds of acres of woods in the Institute for Advanced Studies, where Einstein used to walk.
Very peaceful and well maintained
Not a huge state park, but a very meaningful, and historically important, place. You wouldnt even know this was a battlefield from over 200 years ago if there wasnt a sign for the parking lot. Several interpretive signs help point out and explain the important spots of the this small, but pivotal battle that took place shortly after Washington crossed the Delaware and defeated the Hessians. When visiting this park, take solemn note, and be respectful to the hallowed lands on which you are walking.
Nice place to chill for a few hours
It was wonderful experience, neat, clean, beautiful n historical park ..good for family, kids, dogs...
There is a 350 yr old house, which is now a museum. If you step out of the park and take the trail to huchitson road, there is a creek and a very beautiful pedestrian bridge which gives a view of a beautiful stone bridge.
Great for trails, but no proper signs ... suggest for group trails
Beautiful historical park. Its small but there are long hiking trails nearby in Institute Woods.
Awesome place! Guided tour was excellent!
Very interesting. Lived 10 minutes away my whole life and never knew it was there. Would definitely luke to go again and see reenactment.
Still a beautiful place, even on a gloomy Friday...
Beautiful, muddy, and barely a sign to direct you. Bring your compass !
Nice spot for a morning run.
Very underrated place to visit, great place to go and be lost in your thoughts and enjoy a piece of history
Nicely kept historically significant area.
The orange field was nice
Good historic park. You can get pre wedding shoot here as it will give you a good scenery and monument as background!!
Super cool colonial house and nice trails in the back. If you get lucky youll come across a suspension bridge
Beautiful open area in Princeton. The history here is so fantastic. The park is kept very clean and safe. Just be careful crossing the road, especially when dark. Not necessarily a lot to see, although there are some information boards and spots that provide good photo opportunities, but this is such and important battlefield.
Who did this? No running against familiar things.
Great spot to have a family picnic...even in quarantine
Never went there for prom pictures before. Turned out to be a great idea.
An essential part of history. Easy access, street and on-site parking by the Clarke House.
Love the trails around! good picnic spot for some hours
A great place to run around with friends and play
A terrific, if not understated, historic battlefield. A must visit for historians and casual visitors alike.
Nothing bad to say about it! Very peaceful and beautiful. The only thing is that people need to stop graffiting the place.
Fun place to visit. Lot of historical things to see and the museum is pretty cool too.
Lovely place for a picnic. There was a Memorial day event there today. Its a very historic site... The Battle of Princeton took place there during the Revolutionary War. Easy parking right on the road.
Great hiking and historical learning
Great place to learn some history and it is a pretty park
Nice park historically significant trails are completely unmarked for the most part
Great photo op and very peaceful.
The whole place is huge. Its mostly just a vast space of grasslands. There are barely any trees. The tour is very interesting. Its good to go to learn about the historical elements, but I always see people coming here and using the place as a park, for walking, exercise and running.
Nice place to fly
A nice place to spend some quiet time.
It was a very well kept park with a lot of history you can be George washington
Nice place for the kids to run around away from the road way nothing else bit to imagine the history of the sacret place
Had a great time at their reenactment.
Beautiful green, mowed lawns and very nice trails to hike along. Well kept and nice for any sort of gathering.
The tour guide, Will, was EXTREMELY knowledgeable of the battle and the time frame. Down to the dates and times. Excellent tour!
Good place to learn about history in the Revolutionary War especially when there are special events happening like Memorial Day weekend when I was just there but all-in-all you just go on a random day there isnt much to learn its enjoyed by locals for picnics or just roaming on the Great Lawn
Great parks. Lots of trails. I’m not sure if they’re really well mapped out but the scenery is beautiful.
Good for photoshoots
Very beautiful, peaceful, just to walk the trails, or see what events are happening. Nice place to park, take a break or relax.
Beautiful. Lots of places to walk to. Small parking area.
Beautiful and tranquil. Full of history. Not far from town.
Pay your respects to America revolutionary soldiers.
Currently its a field with historical value
Very beautiful place to visit and take pictures
Interesting and worth the visit.
We love having picnics here from time to time, but there isn’t a ton of shade on those really hot days, hence the 4 stars
Nice parks with a lot of information around to learn.
Actually, we were looking for the monument itself... which is downtown Princeton, next to the city office building. But if you want to learn more about the battle, then you should probably go to the park also.
Reenactment was first class!
Amazing place for a picnic
Chatting with two great people in Princeton, what a terrific day to hang with some friends. Thanks Jennifer for arranging the day. Lets get together again in the spring.
The history! Cool visit for history buffs!
Easy to access, interesting historical markers, and a pleasant place to walk.
The tour guides were wonderful and brought the Battle of Princeton to life. Our grandsons especially loved the musket shooting
Peaceful
There is nothing here to see except the colonnade...
Love my battlefield we saved it and my bf is on the committee which i help out.Great place great events and blesssed we saved the battlefield from developers woo hoo. Great history there, go go visit clark house and show up to our events .
Amazing for history buffs! And for a picnic!
Absolutely massive and mostly empty park space - acres of unbroken mowed fields, bisected by Princeton Pike, with few trees and a large monument. Once far enough from the road, the wonderful deafening sound of silence can be heard.
Princeton Battlefield State Park and a great place to spend a few relaxing hours. Huge lawn to spread out and have a catch. The old farm house is a museum. Check the website for hours. Its a neat tour and there is a person inside who can tell you all about the home and the history behind the house and battle that took place at this location.
This historic Park has a great museum. Learn about the revolutionary was battles that took place right here and in the surrounding area. Very informative. If you love history please visit this park.
This is a really nice family excursion. Besides the battlefield itself, there is a colonial house with a small museum of period furniture and crafts. The tree that General Mercer died under survived until about 2005. The current tree is from an acorn of that tree.
Big, open field. Often not to crowded. Clean and well maintained. Whether you go there for the history, to hike the trails, or to just enjoy a picnic you will not be disappointed.
Expansive fields and conscienceness
Loved it. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
History!
Enjoyed the historical reenactment the most.
F you are a history buff when it comes to the American Revolutionary War than you must add this place to your list of places to visit. There is not a lot of information available, just a few signs and a small house, but the view gives you a whole feeling of what did go one here.
Very peaceful place.
Revolutionary battlefield. Quiet peaceful serene
I like this place. Its great for photoshoots.
Beautiful grass with a nice museum
It was a nice day, SO I just pulled over and sat for a while just looking at the Nature of the Earth, AND of course squirrels.
