They should hire people what love their job and not the ones that give attitude to people. The lady at the kiosk is so miserable. If you don’t want to be there move on, let someone else who loves to work be there.
Clean, peaceful. Love it.... The fishing is good too if u have the right gear and baits.
Nice recreational spot. Great for picnics and hiking. There are picnic tables and public restrooms. There are a couple gazebos but there are enough large trees to provide shade. There is a playground for younger children. There is a walk around the lake that takes about an hour or less to complete. There are fishing supplies available for purchase during season.
We rented a row boat. Low cost and excellent service.
Came here to mountain bike, and its a really fun experience. The uphill sections are hell for beginner riders like me, but the downhill sections are fast and fun, but watch out for the jumps. The park itself is really beautiful and chill. Nice place to rest.
I highly recommend this hike! There is a long route from Lake Poway that is 3.6 miles each direction, and a short route that is 2.1 miles each way. Bring plenty of water--at least 0.5 liters per hour. You cannot go wrong with a standard, 3.0-liter hydration pack. There is plenty of scenery along the way to the Potato Chip finale. There is usually a wait for photo opportunities on the Potato Chip, so be patient. People there are usually friendly and are willing to trade photographer duties. I recommend climbing to the photo opportunity in groups of two at a minimum, because it takes a small leap up one rock and across and upwards. If you are afraid of heights, this is not for you. The Potato Chip is quite stable. I recommend setting your phone to portrait mode before handing it over to a stranger to take the picture.
Take a basket and have a picnic. It’s beautiful and enjoyable. Take a boat ride, paddle boat, fish, hike, or take your kid to play at the park- it’s overall a lovely time.
Place was awesome, friendly and very informative staff. Some regular stake claim to certain spots and can be rude but thats neither here or there. Will return again soon
Always catching fish here! Also the concession has great prices and welcoming staff. Rick (the owner)and Kevin are GREAT! Thank You
Great place for kids! Lake has boats for cruising and fishing. Ducks come and eat from your hands. Play area has a place for younger and a place for mid aged kids. Id give it a 4.5 if I could because some of the bouncy flooring is damaged.
Potato chip rock is a fun, but challenging hike. Be sure to bring lots of water in the late spring and summer months. There are not very many shade covered areas so the water runs out quickly.
A well maintained park with plenty of parking, spots for picnics and fishing opportunities. Hiking trails are limited to around the lake and up the mountain, and the trails are almost wide enough to be fire roads for about half of the trail. There is also a small store to by snacks, bait or duck feed for a reasonable price.
Easily one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. It’s never packed and always stunning.
Among the most popular and scenic lakes in San Diego county, Lake Poway boasts one of the most renowned largemouth bass populations in the state. Also popular with trout and catfish fishermen and women, Lake Poway is also a highly popular hiking destination including the starting point of the famed Potato Chip Rock hike.
Cool place and the nicest run stand at all the lakes. They have a grill too which is convenient for this long days at the lake.
Really great place to hang out for a picnic with family and friends. Kid friendly... Keep $10 aside for parking if you are not a Poway city resident.
This is a great place for picnicking, hiking, light fishing and just getting outdoors for a day. Parking is $10 and if you plan to fish, you need a permit from the snack shop. You can also rent small fishing boats and peddle boats by the hour. There are also plenty of ducks for the kids to feed; they sell bags of Duck Candy (bird seed) at the shop for a buck. Its clean, beautiful and had a lot to offer.
Probably the best on lake tackle/snack shop you will find. Great selection of fishing gear, food and drinks. Great lake as well.
Always a great time here.. parking is free if yer fishing.. just let the guard person know that youre fishing..
Green space and a lake in the middle if the desert! Plenty of picnic space, miles of hiking paths with views of Poway Lake and Ramona Lake and ample parking make this a nice destination. Hot in summer so bring water and visit early in the day. Poway residents Park free, $10 for non residents.
Usually have whats needed to catch fish & snacks
Not a single bite on 3 hours. Also Im not a pro, but still. Everything else was fine.
Peaceful place for being alone sometimes to reflect and pray and thank God for another day we live with good health and family and friends who love us
Love taking the family here, they have several parks for the kids and great places to cook on a coal grill. Plus you can hike fish and rent boats for the lake.
Disappointing first experience here, concession stand staff was rude to start things off with, we rented a motorboat and the guy from the tackle shop didnt give clear directions on how to use it and when we came back in we were completely ignored by the staff and had to dock our own boat. Slow fishing this season as well.
Cool place with some decent swimbaits and tackle
Pretty good fishing with lots of park and jungle gym area for the kids to play. Also has gazebos for rent for big events and sport fields.
Beautiful and very relaxing for paddle boating. Refreshing green grass from raining few days before.
Fun place for renting a boat for fishing, picnic area and hiking trails.
Beautiful place. Easy to hard hiking trails, fishing boat rentals, paddle boat rentals, small general store.
They have a good supply of fishing gear, bait & Drinks and Snacks.
Nice Park.. except $10 entry fee being a recreation park that are mostly open to public
Such a beautiful place! No problems with parking. Nice playground.
Great place to relax with family
Love visiting this quiet place with the kids. They love to play on the play areas, feed the ducks and run around.
Im not very experienced so it was a moderately challenging hike for me to Lake Poway. It is approx 2.3 miles to Lake Poway and 2.6 miles to Lake Ramona each way respectively, their website was a bit misleading so it was longer than expected but still a really pretty lake to make it worth the effort
Starting point of the potato chip hike, has a small concession stand and bathrooms
Beautiful area, great hiking trails and park area. Highly recommended, convenient location.
Great family friendly park. Nice clean facilities and open spaces.
The staff are always friendly and helpful. It takes less than a minute to get a fishing license and a motorboat. Restrooms are clean and the playgrounds are fun for my grandchildren.
Great place to fish. Very nice for family
Small reservoir, but nice and quiet most days. Not open on Mondays or Tuesdays to boat rentals or fishing in 2017.
A friendly staff combined with a great selection of beverages, sundries, and supplies is a winning combination.
Beautiful place had fun fishing there also has great hiking trails
Good beer, good people.
Great variety
Love this chill lake, great for family outings.
Not bad for what is basically a bait shop. Pretty good selection with a lot of snacks.
Great lake and the people running the park do a great job.
Its a nice place to go. Nice views.
Its a beautiful place all trees are basically picnic spots
Family park great for walks bikes any exercises.
Quiet. Great place to hike/relax.
Nice and clean, fully equipped!
Not easy but Great experience
Nice lake, but no fish.
Great place
Friendly staff and great clean lake. Plus you can buy tall cans at the snack shop!
Santa Ranger was a very nice man.
You can fish, picnic and camp there. Occasionally it is full but generally you can find a table and parking.
Plenty of parking space. Can do boating in the lake. Boating closes 30minutes before sunset.
Very clean and simple. The staff is not supper friendly but they are ok
Wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature
If you forget your tackle and bait, they got your back. A bit pricey, but that the cost of convenience.
Very nice place to hang out with family and friends! Just look out for$10 entry fees
Great time fishing. Family oriented
It has more fishing supplies than any lake shop in North county.
Its green and very good for site seeing and trekking.
Park is nice for picnics etc. Potato chip rock is overrated. Desert. Lake not swimmable.
Nice little bait shop.
Great hiking trail
Always Friendly..Good Prices in Tackle stuff..
Great Place to grab something before going out on a hike or boat
Scenic. Great trails for hiking.
Fun place to catch fish
Always fun at lake poway
So much fun tons of fish.
Great place to go hiking
Soo nice, peaceful place
Awesome hiking and park for kids
Very nice and beautiful views
Always been friendly and today they went beyond the call of duty. I left my keys at the concession stand and they came out to find me. This helped me avoid the dreaded feeling I would have had when I realized I didnt have my keys. Thank you.
Great selection of fishing gear
Growing up, my dad worked here as a park ranger. So I had a lot of formative memories in this general area. They stock the lake frequently with trout and catfish. A lot of them are trophy size. You dont need a state fishing license to fish here because its city property, but you do need to buy a permit at the bait shop. You can hike to potato chip rock from the Poway Lake parking. The Bait Shop sells crawdads and shiners if you are interested in live bait, but that always felt a little bit like cheating to me. Some nights they have night fishing for catfish, if you partake remember the goal isnt to cast into the middle of the lake, you want it closer to the shore.
Great trail around the lake!
