This was an easy little loop with lots of spurs and not very crowded. If you take the overlook trail to the overlook spur, you wind up pretty much right at Great Falls overlook. So, if you jump onto the gold mine trail from Falls Road, you can avoid dealing with the Billy Goat Trail parking lots.
We had hike some combination of Billy Goat A, B and C many times but decided to try the Gold Mine Trail instead. No beautiful vistas of the Potomac but still a lovely walk through stunning woods with some nice creeks. And even on Memorial Day it was nearly void of people. Plus the whole thing is runnable. We started at Anglers and went up Valley Trail to get on the loop and go counter clockwise around.
Nice shady walk
Fun loop trail that connect a few other trails, Overlook and VFW, great for weekends when it is crowded on the Billy Goat trail.
