I gave it 3 stars because the only restrooms available were those plastic kind you see around construction sights or mass events. But they do have a nice gift shop and little museum. The gift shop is child friendly for it has neat items for them. In memory of all American service men and women the sub should be walked through with respect. It is interesting to see and somewhat amazing to see the tight world of sub life.
This was a memory of a lifetime! Thank you to our veterans!!!They approaching everyone at the entrance and making sure everyone was wearing masks. They were practicing social distancing and had sanitizer before you and enter and after that is a must.An the submarine was just amazing!
Fantastic and must see historic site to visit while in Portsmouth. Easy to find with plenty of parking. Photo friendly with great lighting and near Unlimited access to the boat. Best submarine museum that Ive visited. Admission was $8 and it took me two hours to self tour the boat and adjoining museum, gift shop and submarine memorial.
Very informative people there. My husband loved it and found it fascinating.
Interesting little place to stop by with the family. Parking is free and the entrance fee is a mere $9 as this is a real submarine after all.
This place was fabulous!! The tour guide Bill was outstanding and he was extremely knowledgeable. We came on the first warm day of 2020 during off peak season. We had the entire place to ourselves- it was amazing! The submarine is in great shape. I had a blast checking everything out. I recommend taking a stop here- plus they support our troops. Whats better than that?!
Pretty neat to be able to go inside the sub and see what its like to live on one
Great historical place to visit. Very interesting and fun for kids that like submarines!!
Staff was very informative.. kids loved going through the sub!
Staff were knowledgeable and amazing; the self-guided sub tour is very cool.
Nice tour. Proceed at your own pace. Full access with nice audio clips. Museum at start had good info, could have used more depth on US Navy submarine fleet.
Very cool walk yourself through submarine tour...SO MANY BUTTONS and a Periscope! My son really enjoyed it
Thrilled! 1st time in a submarine of any kind. Audio tour was great. Amazed how the sailors were able to work and live through such small space when put at sea. Ticket price is reasonable and I will recommend a visit. Staff at the souvenir shop are very helpful too.
Actual museum and sub itself was closed. We check on line which said it was open. Total disappointment.
Good place to see a research grade underwater vessel. The free audio to is informative and you can see all of the exterior without paying an entry fee. In addition you can observe the spare propels used in the dual prop system.
Very cool museum. Learn the history, see artifacts and tour the actual sub. Watch the video before you board the sub. Only$8.00 for adults. Will worth the time and money.
LOVED IT! First time in a submarine and the audio tour was neat. I liked looking for the next red button. Amazing gift shop. Signed up for the membership because it wasnt much more than a ticket and it said it helps the cause. Worth it.
It was cool enough to get to climb through a submarine. But in addition, there is a self guided audio tour that further explains what youre seeing as you scoot through. In addition, the museum employee was friendly and helpful in answering questions. Its a pretty quick place to visit, but I really enjoyed it! You do have to climb through tight areas, so make sure youd be comfortable doing that.
Historic USS Albacore is open for business and tours through the main deck. Ple ty of buttons still click, and you can even see if you have the guts to lie down in one of the bunk beds. The cramped quarters give you a real flavor of what it was like to on a submarine. The gift shop also has a museum in the back which has history of submarine types, and some memorabilia. The gif shop itself is a little dinky, but there were a few discounts going on when I went. Worth sopping in!
Great History of The Navy...
Very nice small museum dedicated to the Albacore submarine. The are a lot of real stuff from real submarines. Wonderful collection of plaques from the different US submarines. Very good souvenir shop with wide choice of books, clothing, magnets and so on. Highly recommend. Must visit during trip to Portsmouth, NH.
Super cool! Nice to get inside and tinker with stuff.
Unfortunately the submarine was closed on Wednesday when we were there. Walked around to pay honor to those who served
Amazing piece of Navy history. Watch your head!
Seeing how sailors worked and lived in such a crampt space, you can feel a little overwhelmed in such a tiny area. You have to be mentally fit and prepared for it. Then, even without visiting the memorials to those who lost their lives in submarine disasters, the feeling of dred imagining being trapped when the submarine your on fails hits you. Marvelling at the sailors who traveled in such tight spaces, listening to the audio narration inside and outside of the Albacore, the museum itself, makes me want to visit again. If you have claustrophobia, DONT go! Disabled people will not be able to get through. If you are tall or big, you may struggle.
Tight quarters, but a good take if you have never been on a submarine before. Good for kids because its hands on the controls.
Very interesting! Friendly staff. Great hands on history experience! $16 for a family pass. Explore at your own pace.
Very interesting and so convenient
Amaizing place to be and see.
Awesome experience. The kids (and us adults too) had so much fun. Decided to take the kids here spontaneously on a snowy weekend. Only costed us $16 for 2 adults and 3 kids. Watched an informational video and browsed submarine artifacts on display, enjoyed the the self guided submarine tour and the little gift shop. The gentleman who was running the place was super friendly and knowledgeable. So cool experiencing the inside of the sub. Highly recommend!
Took cruise out with few friends and we stopped by here. And was very interesting and informative. Great Lil gift shop .
A really interesting feel for what its like living and working inside a submarine. As you walk from the front to back of the submarine you get to see the sleeping quarter, showers (1/week per person) and toilets, small kitchen and common area, engine room, scope and communication and control room. What was interesting was all the hardware and pipes to make this thing work! Highly recommend!
Amazing got give those who served a lot credit .TRUMP 2020.
Lots of history and knowledgeable caring people ready to share it.
To be on the submarine was something eles.. its a piece of history just waiting to be explored. The self guided tour was easy to follow and very cool to learn about.
Must see! Very cool! Informative!
The history and seeing something my father did on this sub as a pipe fitter was awesome and emotional
Very interesting tour.
Very interesting place. Its cool that you can tour inside the submarine. The submarine has very low ceilings, smells like diesel and can be claustrophobic. I cant believe people lived inside of it for days under water.
So cool. Took the kids to this piece of history. The man at the desk was straightforward and helpful. The documentaries are short. The submarine is impressive and interesting. If its at all cool outside, wear a hat and gloves. Its cold inside. The memorial Park is a ticking tribute to those who lost their lives serving on submarines.
Wonderful place to see a piece of history. It was nice to revisit it. Highly recommend stopping here.
So informative, I brought kids (7&5) and they loved it.
This was very cool to explore and learn history
There’s a self guided audio tour that really brings life aboard this sub to light. The panels both in the sub and in the museum are very informative on what makes the Albacore important in submarine history and evolution.
Very nice to visit and discover about submarine life. Enjoyed that it was a tour of your own pace.
Lived the self guided tour and the people working there were great.
This is a must do experience even if you have any interest in marine history. And its not as claustrophobic as you would think.
Awsome visit!
You can tour a real submarine. Look through the periscope. Theres a gift shop and museum.
Another great tribute to the worlds best Navy
Best submarine museum I have been to so far. I especially loved the personal stories that were told at each information station.
Vey cool museum! I would say this is a must do for Portsmouth. Great history and it’s a quick hit. Love it!
Didnt go inside, just stopped by to have a look. Nice that the submarine is being preserved, being that it played a significant role in the development of modern US military sub hull design.
We had a most super interesting tour through the USS Albacore submarine. Couldn’t believe how close quarters it really was inside. Submarine duty for sure not for the claustrophobic faint of heart.
Great place at a low price. The sub gives you a great feel for what the seamen had to endure.Nice gift shop and movie playing on the history of Portsmouth subs
The staff was friendly and funny. The sub is well kept and a wonder to walk through. Definitely worth stopping by.
Pretty cool to be able to wander through this submarine. It was cold when we were there, so be prepared for it to be cold or perhaps hot inside depending on the weather. Quarters are cramped, but passible.
Wonderful . Slow or faced paced tours- do it all on your own. Noone to rush you. Reminds you of how much military give . Thank you...
Very cool piece of US submarine history
Very hands on experience, the employees are very enthusiastic about their jobs and it was a great experience! No heat in the submarine so if you go during the winter make sure to bundle up! Would definitely recommend to all ages.
Just drove by here. We around taking pics. If I find them Ill post them. Intriguing place for a submarine!
Very cool experience
Very cool place, you take a self guided tour on a submarine. They have recordings telling you about the SS Albacore.
Touring the sub was very interesting...giving you the feeling of what it was like for the men and women who live in a sub for months at a time. Very close quarters. Not for those who are claustrophobic.
What a cool experience on the cheap! My stepson is a history fanatic, and Ive never seen him so amped about anything. Staff is incredibly friendly and enthusiastic, and we had a ton of fun!
Dog friendly, and has Vets as guides.
Really cool museum with very nice people running it. You can pay to explore this historic submarine, insanely cramped and in the same condition as when it was used. Fascinating. Worth the trip.
Loved it. Very cool!
Cool place! Interesting history.
It was closed but still pretty cool to see the actual size of a cold war submarine
Very cool sub, memorial, and gift shop
Its a nice place to visit. I never had been inside in one of those, so I liked. I guess because it was cold outside, it was better than it I came during summer hot day.
Ehh decent i guess
I loved this place. Its not everyday that you go inside a submarine. The man working there was very informative and friendly. Great experience!
Nice take in...very small spaces. Incredible to see everything put together...it almost seems miraculous.
Awesome and unique place to visit and seeing a whole submarine out of the water! Recommend this place who is visiting this part of Maine!
A great piece of naval history. The self guided tour was perfect.
Its a big freaking sub, so cool
Solid place for understanding the history of US Submarine models and the daily life/work of the crew. Impressive preservation and experience
If you never been in a submarine, this is a good place to experience it. You can even play board games in the sub. Check out the souvenir store after!
It was a good experience to watch it from thr inside if you have never been in a submrine before.
Was the best. Learned a lot that I didnt know and had a great time exploring the inside. Will definitely be returning. The gentleman working in the gift shop was welcoming and made a great inpression.
It’s awesome here
Very well done. Super interesting and well documented.
One of the coolest places I have visited!
Great time very hands on and informative! Kept the interest of my almost 3 year old he kept eclaming Were on a mission! Worth checking out. Worth noting because it is a submarine it is tight and does require some climbing through of tight areas. Would be difficult for those with limited mobility.
Great submarine with an amazing history!
Dedicated to all Submariners and those on eternal patrol.
Very interesting piece of history. It was a test of my claustrophobia!
A historical museum that set the standards for all modern day US submarines. Only cost $16 for a family of 4. Check it out its worth your time and money
Great to see this sub in such great shape and the self guided tour was very informative. The fact that you can really get into it and not have to peer through plexiglass is definitely a plus. It was great being able to see through the periscope!
Visiting this museum was surprisingly awesome - I was honestly a little scared of the submarine (the concept of submarines in general!) but it didnt feel overly cozy inside and was very interesting. Staff were knowledgable and helpful and Id definitely recommend a visit. Good family price!
Very informative and was priced affordable its very hands on so take a minute and atop by. The people in the gift shop were amazing and welcomed any questions
This is absolutely one of the coolest things to go visit! It has a delightful tour and very knowledgeable staff. I would definitely go back out!
Love History! Love what USS Albacore Museum is doing! Keep up the good work!
Walk through a real submarine. Touch everything. Sit in the mess hall, climb into the bunks, listen to recordings of crew describe their experiences or ask a sailor in person about life on a modern sub.My kids loved the experience.
This was a great chance to see what few had seen before. A real part of America history that you can touch. Amazing exhibit and a great place for the family to enjoy.
