Delightful gallery spaces for local and international artists. Staff is very helpful and shows are professional. First Fridays Portsmouth with live music is a fun and family (furry kids too) friendly place
A Charming little Christmas Winter Wonderland is set up for the holiday season each year. This is the only attraction weve been to at the Art and Cultural Center so I cant speak to the rest of their events but their Christmas creativity shines warmly. Both times weve been there for it, two different years, the staff has been welcoming without at all being overwhelming. The different arrangements are each examples of carefully crafted set design. They also provide a scavenger hunt for the little ones in attendance which, while simple, is simply effective in holding their attention for the 20-30 minutes it takes to tour the two floors of displays. There has also been a singer playing the piano and singing. This year there was also a violinist. Both bookings were skilled enough at their craft to add charm and not deplete it at all which is a risk whenever youve got a cozy setting. Its well worth our 20min drive to go a third time next year (or possibly even again this year). Merry Christmas to all!
We are vendors at the Saturday Farmers Market (9-1pm). This is a great cultural center with rotating exhibits...and its free! Donations are accepted, I believe.
Portsmouth Cultural Center is a beautiful old building in the middle of the Olde Towne section of Portsmouth. The people who work the are accomadating, knowledgeable and friendly. The art work is awesome and the events are fun. When you visit the Museum there is a feeling of community and joy.
Wonderful exhibits, small but interesting, can take in everything in under 2 hours taking your time.
It was free when we went you just have to look and see when but had a great time..
Love the amazing variety of local art and the Gallery Gift Shop has great gifts.
Fun museum and great to see so many of the Christmas characters from the former Colemans Nursery. Santa was terrific and the staff was very nice
Great information on how the African American quilters make their quilts. There is a purpose in many many aspects of how they choose to quilt.
Visit the Center or the Courtyard on a Saturday am and you wont be disappointed. From the Farmers Market to the Music in the Courtyard its a great start for you morning. Other Arts related events and exhibits inside are worth checking the schedule for...
Visited the Winter Wonderland in Dec 2017. Small, but festive. Kept my 1 year old very entertained for about an hour.
Great collection of local art and gifts with fun events and demonstrations!
Interesting Qulits and Great African American Photography on the 2nd Floor.
It was amazing. The pictures and history are carved into my brain.
Weve taken our grandchildren here in December for the past several years to see the Christmas decorations previously displayed at Colemans Nursery in Portsmouth, VA. It is nostalgic to me as I used to go to Colemans as a teen to see these decorations.
Beautiful downtown Portsmouh. Attended lecture by Dr. Cassandra Newby-Alexander, The Dreadful Swamp. Excellent!
