Honestly enjoy spending the summer days down here. Not to bad if you can get over the junkies.
A good place to see some classic architecture of the buildings in this area.
The fountain is damaged by protestors and no water due to the pandemic.
Smoked dope ate spaghetti and shared jesus and it was a awesome night
Very beautiful, and a place to chamber yourself in thought.
Its beautiful and good for photo opps
One of those nice spots in Portland Oregon where you walk by and take in whats around you. Not to mention, when its hot, its nice to have. I love this city.
Great market on the weekends, good vendors, food, and drinks. All around awesome part of town. Would highly recommend
The kids had a lot of fun playing here in the water but there is a lot of homeless people around so you need to always be vigilant. Also the homeless people do use this as a place to clean up some times. Some times you find drug needles around the area. School takes the kids on field trips here often before summer starts.
Contrary to what Google will tell you, IT IS NOT OK TO VISIT THE SKIDMORE FOUNTAIN WITH YOUNG CHILDREN. Unless, of course, you dont mind your children coming to see a fountain that rarely is in operation, but theres always plenty of homeless people doing things like dealing drugs, drinking alcohol, and pissing openly on the streets. If that sounds like a great family trip to you, go ahead and take your kids to the Skidmore Fountain. The great reviews people have given the fountain are actually reviews for The Saturday Market, which happens in the area on Saturdays and Sundays.
Had a great time there the whole day. If youre looking for steps that is the place to do it. And check out the different types of things and food choices. Go for it.
A historic gateway to portlands saturday market and west side waterfront park
The area is right next to the drop off from the local rail. Ease of access. They had some live music the Sunday we visited. The fountain is in ill condition with no running water in it, the end of March. Many people sitting on and around the fountain which made it tough to get a nice photo. I can imagine when the vendors are not here the homeless fill the area. It is dirty. There were a line of porta-potties which is convenient in an urgent situation. The spot does give you an opportunity to glance out over the river, but when you look down to the deck below, it is sprinkled with trash broken bottles and homeless clothing.
Place to meet new people n frens.
The fountain is very meh. Most of the reviews are referring to the Saturday market, which is fun, but the only thing they have to do with the fountain is the proximity. Very disappointed, I expected a cool fountain.
Lively and Saturday market is great but it strongly smells like urine
Very relaxed market with good culture and good vibes
The fountain was not on the day I visited. And, unfortunately, the immediate area is rather seedy. Witnessed several homeless and mentally ill cursing and screaming.
Saturday market always fun
The kids love to play in the fountains and they are free!
Disgusting place. Probably the grossest stain on the Portland landscape.
Saturday and Sunday market now through Christmas. Great place to meet people, listen to amazing musicians, and by those little trinkets you cant find anywhere else. Good place to do early Christmas shopping.
Max line conveniently located a block from the waterfront. Lots of cool restaurants and bars within the blocks surrounding.
Beautiful sight to see in the morning I would stay away at night due to the amount of homeless that gather here
Skidmore Fountain During the Saturday Market season(begins in March, till Christmas Eve) is a lively and fun place to spend time during weekends. But if you just want to see or take pictures of the fountain by itself, then Saturday Market off season is the best time.
Cute location near the max station and Saturday market.Usually you can find street performers around the skidmore fountain when a marketplace is going on. It’s a fairly living fountain with many things happening around it.
Walked past by here in the night with my husband. I have never seen a place dirty like this one and it reminded me of downtown LA filled with homeless people and there belongings. As I walked past I smelled urine and I had to be careful not to step on it. Place is dirty and smelly with homeless people. I wouldnt come here anymore or wait for the MAX in this area.
Yum hungry....goood......ya know
Skidmore fountain is an iconic point of interest in Portland Oregon and is where they hold the Saturday markets. Unfortunately however it has also become a center for homeless people to hang out because it is under the Burnside bridge and out of the rain. Drug dealing is coming here and you should be aware of this if you plan to visit the fountain. If youre not looking for drugs its fairly safe to go during the daytime but I would highly recommend that you go in small groups just to be on the safe side. Most of the crime that occurs in the area around the fountain is like drug dealers against drug buyers and that sort of thing. if you dont mind homeless people laying around or asking for change and youre not looking to be involved in anything illegal I would say it safe. But again go in the daytime and be cautious.
No water in the fountain, strong urine smell around the fountain.... Wouldnt recommend it.
A nice place to wash for feet. Nice trickle sounds for water is smoothing.
Cool old fountain with lots of unique people hanging around. As well as some crack addicts Tweakers and of course bums Portland is famous for its smelly bum population and man is it growing. The fountain is still a great attraction to check out though.
Fun place to hang out and see street performers or whatever may be there
My close friend and I, went to Saturday market Saturday. May 26th. Saturday was also my son Marcus, 40th, birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY BABY, I LOVE AND MISS YOU SO MUCH.
When he cops(want to bes arent harassing you and liveing. Its a nice place to chill for a moment.
Great place to spend a weekend afternoon spring summer and fall, if you like to people watch. and enjoy local vendor sale booths
Great place to get involved with feeding 100s of homeless and helping get them off the streets, and starting life over again through my friends ministry international Messagers of Hope!
Underwhelming full of urine smell
A nice place to sit. Take a train into or out of the city and watch the one man band on the weekends at Saturday Market.
Fun in the sun. It wss a good day walking around the Saturday market.
Top many homeless yet able bodied people around begging for handouts.
Overrun with homeless now. Whatever beauty this place had is now lost. Not worth your time until Portland begins addressing this issue head on
A nice monument.
Wish they had water running through with the fountain. Very beautiful otherwise.
Theres always action. Weather whise, transit system. And lets not forget, Saturday market. Which is actually Saturday and Sunday and 3ach day in December. Lest then a few steps away at waterfront park.
Lots of unique art to peruse. Selection of clothes and food as well
Its very cool when the fountain is running and able to be ran though
Beautiful fountain. a real assett to the city.
Good times here at the heart of the Portland Saturday market.
Got some great twilight pictures here several years ago. Now it is just a MAX stop for me.
I met the love of my life in the Spring of 2009. I love you Jen xo
Nice Get a way
Its right by where the Saturday market takes places, it looks clean Ive splashed water on my head before from it,but was told to be careful cuz some people go to the bathroom in it.I never had noticed that myself.
The homeless population has taken over this part of downtown. Its dirty and stinks all over this area. Do not want to visit again.
I love the Skidmore market
Well Ive been around for awhile, and the only thing thats keeping it alive down there is the Saturday market
Like the name saysSkid Some more
No trash can be seen very clean
Its very small but they hold Saturday market there every Saturday and Sundays between March 23 to December 23 every year.
Soso place. Just pass by.
Cool fountain with an area for cooling off feet.
A lot of things going on down there.
Sketchy neighborhood. The homeless and drug addicts leave biohazards everywhere.
Its okay during the day, but its near the homeless shelter. Some people are heavily unwashed, with all of there belongings laying everywhere. Lots of trash on the ground.
Clean and a little cold lol
Great for tourism
Skid roe
Too bad The Urban Shaman cant play here anymore.
Enchanting
The whole area feels a little unsafe as a queer, disabled woman especially in light of our politically charged climate and possible encounters with individuals from white nationalist demonstrations.
Fun
Love Saturday Market!
A fountain.
