Lovely park area with gorgeous views and excellent walks right in the Sellwood area. The tracks are lovely, with some only for walking and some combined cycle and walking trails.Plenty of wildlife to see and gorgeous views. The Tadpole pond is rather neat!Would definitely be suitable for taking kids, and is very dog friendly (on a leash!)Wonderful reserve with short and long walks.
One of the best short urban hikes in the Portland area. It is a short trail but with some beautiful views over the water and frequent bird watching opportunities. Gets a bit muddy in rainy season but is still a nice walk at anytime of year. A great place to take kids and get a dose of nature without leaving the city.
Recently I called the parks department about the aggressive trespassers who had been threatening people from the park where they had built structures into the dirt walls of the Wildlife sanctuary. They actually did something and did remove ONE of the camps at the entrance that was the most vocally harassing people. So thank you for that parks department
I visited in early 2020. A few homeless people near various park entrances. Otherwise a great place. Offers lots of opportunities for wildlife viewing with marshes, meadows, woods, and the Willamette river.
Great pedestrian trail around the hill side. Lots of wildlife. The asphalt part of the trail is pretty busy. Unfortunately we ran into a coyote that wasnt intimidated by humans and was stalking our small dog. His territory so we retreated (quickly). There are quite a few campers camped next to the no camping signs. Portland. Sigh.
This place has a lot of playground equipment for the kids to play on. The equipment is good for almost all ages. There are some lovely Hiking trails to. On one of the Hiking trails you can see a building that has one of the largest paintings on the side of the building in the state. The trails can be Steep In a few places so if you have children or animals with you hiking make sure theyre on the right side of the trail going down and on the left side going up.
A lovely urban walk with many wee magical side-trails. The Esplanade is fine biking (not as fine to walk along if there are many cyclists about) and in the summer when the cottonwoods are losing their fluff its like being in a Jim Henson film. Last week we saw deer, snakes, a frog and at least five kinds of birds just in our little jaunt from the entrance on Milwaukee near McLoughlin (which is my favorite place to start from)
I love to take rides on my recumbent trike along the Springwater Corridor Trail, which runs right through the Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge. The scenery is lovely, the wild animals are beautiful and the rides are great exercise. Its very peaceful. I absolutely recommend it whether youre riding or walking!
Nice loop trail and a good place to see some fall colors.
Really nice nature reserve just outside of Portland. Easy hiking and lots of wildlife.
Its a beautiful place to get outside but stay cool under the trees and by the wetlands.
The dog park was nice my riddlez enjoyed his time with the others pups
Short walk thru forested and marshy area amongst wildlife
Beautiful. The trails are well maintained and parking was plenty. Dogs ok on leash except for areas marked otherwise.
The refuge is one part of a handful of fun things to enjoy in the immediate area. Adjacent to Oaks Park Amusement park, a spacious dog park, a pebble strewn beach and pier, as well as a Rails to Trails bike trail that connects with the East Bank Esplanade. The wildlife refuge is the quiet centerpiece to all of this, but in a modest way. Its a lovely place to hike beneath the trees on a hot day. The path is about a mile long, tracing the eastern side of the lake/swamp. And although it is a lovely feeling to know the refuge is there doing its thing to preserve wildlife, in the summer the leaves shroud most of the view from it, even on the largest overlook. It may be best to wait for fall and winter if you want a wildlife experience. But its still great for communing with nature and some relaxing exercise. Check your Google map for where the path connects with the bike path, and the parking areas on either end. Also for enjoying the other adjacent attractions while youre there.
Portland is rad. Hella places to adventure.
Please take consideration while enjoing the the provided area! The Refuge is a place to enjoy nature while respecting our neighbors and environ.
Pleasant walking trails; albeit busy. Downside: homeless people remnants everywhere ruining nature.
I rode my bike by there whatever not sure what to say yay woohoo
I really enjoyed Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge. I took the trails close to sunset and it was full of bird calls various look out points and views of the Willamette River and Portland sky line. I recommend dressing in comfortable shoes as well as having a light jacket with you as well.
Great quick get away at an easily accessible spot.
Nice place. Flowers nice. Just. Nice. Alao sunset pic.
Nice walk through the wetlands. Too bad the stench of pot smoke was everywhere.
Peaceful walk with the wildlife. We saw a beaver on land!!! A deer, some very loud frogs, and some colourful birds.
I love going to Oaks Bottom to clear my mind. It is beautiful and the trail connects to a larger one. There are also some fun trails to hike that break off of the main paved trail. The only reason I docked a star was because of the homeless population that had begun to take over this park. They have some unfriendly dogs that bark and lunge at my pups. I have ran into a few people in the refuge that made me feel really unsafe.
Great park and place to walk.
Well maintained trails. Lots of wildlife. While making the loop we saw a buck, red tail hawks, a bald eagle, and several ducks and song birds. Definitely didnt disappoint.
Expansive park with lots of places to relax
Beautiful as always. Wear your mask.
Beautiful in its creepy way. Was there at night but still beautiful. A huge white owl scared a little bit pee out of me...i hope it was an owl. Mausoleum on the hill adds to the feeling of unease...
Absolutely beautiful. Watch out for one wheelers on foot path
This Place Is Very Tranquil, Serene, Majestic, And Peaceful; I Could Walk Here Every Single Day; Never A Dull Moment! Beautiful!
Nice in the summer when the Loosetrife is blooming.
Great safe place to walk
The best inner city nature refuge i think in the whole country. Its really a beautiful place and easy to walk, no steep grades or anything and no real splits off the main trails to get lost down just pretty much an A to B journey. With a few little bonus trails along the way that lead you back to the main trail in the end.
Nice secluded refuge in the city.
I see deer and rabbit every night and morning on my commute.
Great place in the city for a Nature walk.
Nice. But way to many homeless thieves in the area.
This is a very nice place...
Easy hike with many wildlife
Easy hiking area. Beautiful and lovely sounds of wildlife all around
Good parking, accessible, easy paths.
The invasive Barred Owl can usually been seen around dusk as well as deer and a million woolybears. Be careful though, they like to climb along the path so a lot get taken out by feet.
Beautiful views, a pretty good place for birding and viewing other wildlife. The trail around is pretty long and its just really calming in general.
I love running the eastern lower bluff trail along the water. A great place for walks and wilderness strolls.
Yes I agree, that this park. Has everything to offer. To bird watching, seeing dear running through the park. The beauty of the sun shinning between the trees. You get to heard alot too. From the crickets, frogs and all of the birds. What a place to take kids for a nature walk.
Very nice nature walk
Saw a Downy woodpecker, coots, mallards, juncos, green winged teals and golden crowned sparrows. Had a nice walk and a pleasant chat with a friend.
Wonderful swampy area for pictures
Nice place to ho for a run or bike ride
Easy hiking trails, access to Spring water Corridor, too.
Good bumper point if youre riding out of the city and want a sense of solitude before you start your trek back into the mountains!!!So much to see !!!,,,Oh and if youre here to bash the homeless,,,perhaps you moved to the wrong city. Its a beautiful place to live regardless of someone not having a home to live in...Try offering them a sandwich if it bothers you that much!!!peace!
A very old beautiful serene place to go walking
It has a nice walking and biking path, close to the Willamette River
A nice little area to do a good walk
Riding along the spring water corridor you can some times catch a view of dear as well as as eagles in search of a meal. Go fore a bike ride, or just site seeing. Its about a five mile walk to down town from Oaks park.
Great place to walk, watch birds, enjoy nature. Only downside is having to share Springwater trail with a few over-speeding bicyclists.
This is a beautiful escape to nature within city limits. If only the homeless campers and the general public would only be more respectful with their garbage!!! Camp in camp out!!! Its not that difficult!!! Use the provided receptacles or take your trash with you!! Parks department is doing a great job but we all need to do our pary! Stay vigilant and respect nature and each other!
Great place to walk
Very well preserved natural areas
It was a gorgeous day today. We saw Mallard pairs, a Red-tailed Hawk, 3 White Herons, and a Great Blue Heron as well as smaller birds on our hike through the Bottom. The path was fairly dry and there were lots of families out as well as individual hikers, walkers, and joggers. There were bicyclists on the paved portions of the trails. The City has done a good job of maintaining the trails, benches and bridges. There was no trash visible and the refuge was very clean.Ill definitely be going back to walk/hike the trails again soon.
Nice and easy hike. Great for dogos. Lots of ducks. I even saw a deer once.
Ok wildlife spot lots of deer, some coyotes, and even raccoons. Seems like a big weed smoking spot as well. Everytime I have been through there always find a group or two smoking. Thats not a skunk you smelling.
The springwater corridor bike/pedestrian path brings you right there, its great place to stop while on a bike ride or to go for a walk.
Great trails and wildlife. Take the inner trails for bird watching
Natural habitat restoration at its urban finest.
A lovely bit of wildlife beside the river & beneath the city.
A good walk in a wild park in the center of the city, few people and in the wooded wetlands.
Scenic, waterside trail. Paved, wide enough for bikers and walkers at all points
Great walking trails /biking. Some for traffic only. Convenient access to nature. Theyre doing a great job of maintaining and reestablishing the native flora and fauna.
Great trails. Bird watching and folks shooting heroine. Probably not a place to go at night or alone, unfortunately.
I think, they could do a better job posting trails but this is a fun walk from Willamette park over the Sellwood bridge to Oaks into the amusement park and around the trails.
Fantastic Wildlife Area right inside the city limmits. A great place to go bird-watching or to just go for a walk or a run.
Amazing restoration. Thank you!
Beautiful always. Seasonally different, perfect!
It a Beautiful place I loved it.
Went Dragon boating on river next to island. Beautiful woman!
I had the most amazing running experience here! This place is raw and absolutely beautiful!
Always an excellent place to take a walk. Its quiet and often has sounds of wildlife. If you have a rambunctious dog this probably isnt the best place as they are doing habitat restoration.
Nice bit of refuge for the non han denizens of the city.
Dire wolves, goblins, and owl-bears are but a shard of the magnificent woodland creatures living and loving the enchanted land of Oaks. Hark! Tis a flock of griffins I do hear?
Super love this place
This is a very beautiful park. With a lot of old growth trees. Each time Ive camped here I have had the opportunity to see deers. Also the park is opening up a new visitors center soon that was planned with native American partners.
Park at Oaks Park amusement park, cross the street, trailhead is right there by the tracks. You can do a nice loop. Lots of wildlife, herons, ducks, deer, rabbits, frogs,ect.. Nice dock over the water to enjoy the view.
A pleasant place for walking, running, and biking. Beautiful and serene. There are usually people using the pathways, and all of them are nice folks. Its very safe here. Its a wonderful place for nature photography. Also good for meditation and listening to the many birds and frogs. Its a thirty minute walk from the parking lot to the Willamette slough and back.
Beautiful trails, lush forest, and truely a way to escape the city life. Very close to Portland yet it seems like.a.diffrrent world. When I was there I saw a blue heron (very large bird), a turtle, and many squirels and birds.
Beautiful. More appealing if there were public bathrooms open
Very nice waking trail. Most of it shaded
