This is a really cool place! The owner is the curator and guide as he talks to you about the various kayak designs of the native peoples of different tribes. He built the majority of the kayaks here (of which all are replicas). Open on Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The museum is free to the public. He sells books he has written to sustain his museum. This is well worth the visit. 5/5 stars and 2 thumbs up.

If you have any interest in the variety of traditional kayak and canoe forms from around the world, and especially those from the Arctic, youll love this little gem of a museum. This is all the work of one guy, sharing his passion. Its only open two hours a week, currently 5 - 7 pm on Thursdays. Well worth making time on a Thursday evening for a visit.

I love this place! It has a adventurous arua with all of the wood features. It is quite unique, as you cant find many antique Kayak and Canoe museums. I love the simplicity and love that contributed to the place!

Unquestionably one of the most underappreciated locations in Portland, one of the most comprehensive collections of kayaks to be found anywhere at all, and curated/owned by an asset to not only Portland nor even North America, but to water itself.

This is a very neat place to come check out on a Thursday evening (at least those are current hours). The guy who runs the museum is really knowledgeable about kayaks and canoes from the pcnw and beyond. Its really neat to see these canoes and kayaks up close; they are unlike kayaks you see in the summer today. There really isnt a reason not to visit this cool museum, as it is free! Go check it out and leave a donation!

Ive been there twice with my kayaking group to see this tiny museum stuffed with accurately built replicas of traditional kayaks from around the world. A very impressive display with high attention to detail in the construction of these little boats. Recreational kayaking with plastic and fiberglass boats has grown in popularity over the years, but its fascinating to see the origins of this sport. These ancient and innovative watercraft were once important tools for survival and transport for so many people. Their engineering designs differed wildly (depending on their intended use and regional conditions) and to see so many traditional examples lovingly crafted was a joy.

This small museum is extremely interesting. Went with 25 kayakers and we were stunned with the 60+ skin on frame boats, mostly very accurate replicas made by the museum owner himself. He paddled one of them 800 miles down the Columbia River. He has most outfitted with the hunting gear of native people all across the Arctic, from Alaska to Greenland and even Asia I believe. The variety of shapes and designs is fascinating. He also wrote books on it. I think he said its the largest collection of skin on frame kayak types in the world. Plus he has a dugout, a birchbark, a coracle, and a few other handmade boats. A definite visit for paddlers, crafters, and students of indigenous culture.
