Ive been a member here for about 3 months now and I absolutely love it! Everyone here is a wonderful person and very welcoming to all skill levels. The development of the creative community and my own creative growth here and in Portland/Southern Maine has been the most beneficial for me by far. Im very excited for this place to be open and becoming a wonderful addition to Portland! Patrick did an amazing job with the construction and the place is still growing with many new ideas in the works for the coming years. I couldnt recommend becoming a member more to anyone whos interested in the arts or is a maker or becoming a maker.
I have been apart of Factory 3 from the beginning and love it very much! I have my own personal space (you can pick depending on size) that I can come and go as I please. I have access to a wood shop and metal shop as well. There are also classes held by other members. I took woodshop 101! There are events weekly and allow for artists to support one another and talk about each others work. I am thankful for a space that I feel so comfortable in and can allow for my creativity to grow.
I am new to Portland and stumbled upon Factory 3 in search of a... well, exactly what this place is. Fully equipped wood and metal shops with tons of shared work space. I recently graduated with a sculpture degree eager to work on new wooden work. With access to large work areas including a large side yard, my ideas have been flowing like crazy. It makes a lot of sense to share large tools, space, and ideas amongst creators who carry diverse skills. It feels good to be apart of a creative community!
Factory 3 is one of the most welcoming spaces Ive been in in Portland. As a femme person, Im always wary of being in industrial spaces that involve mechanics or wood-working because Im afraid of being belittled, talked-down on, and mansplained. However, Ive experienced quite the opposite at Factory 3. Everyone who is a member there is supportive, encouraging, and wants you to try something new. I had never used power tools before, but I signed up to volunteer during the build-out of the factory and the next thing I knew I was putting up dry wall like no ones business. Im so thankful for this space and Im so excited to work on my bike, learn car mechanics, and build a table in the near future.
Factory 3 offers the fabulous opportunity to be part of a welcoming and growing community of fascinating makers and doers in an extraordinary space! I strongly encourage a visit to see and feel all that is taking place at Factory 3!
