This museum is small but mighty! Port Exploreum uses sophisticated, high tech displays, as well as simple low tech, hands-on displays to provide multi-generational input. The museum is located downtown in Port Washington near parks, two lighthouses, a marina, shopping, and great restaurants. Port Washington has everything to keep family members happy. We had a great day.
Im sorry but we went ot check this out and it was not good, $15 for 3 people to walk around for 15 mins and look at nothing, most of the interactive things were not working and the ones that did were not interesting, definitely would not keep kids interested. Wouldnt go back even if it was free. Sorry. Only gave it a star cause this wouldnt post without a rating.
The Port Exploreum was such a wonderful place to have our wedding rehearsal dinner! Amy is so amazing to work with and was so accommodating! We had plenty of room upstairs to create our own buffet style meal and the layout of tables and chairs was easy to navigate through. The upstairs balcony is such a nice feature that our guests were able to enjoy on the nice evening. Not only did the kids love exploring through the museum, but the adults did too! It was so fun to see the entire space being utilized. We love this “hidden gem” and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an event space! Can’t beat the price, the view, the exhibits, and the staff (especially Amy)!!
I may update this later with a better review, we will see. I came with my toddler the other day. The childrens area in the basement is closed due to sewage issues. They anticipate it will be reopened in a few weeks. The lady at the counter was kept with a couple who were shooting the breeze with her, so we had to wait some time to purchase our tickets. There are several art pieces being auctioned at the museum that are in plain reach of small hands, so that was a little stressful. There are interactive touch screens along the museum, a couple small exhibits and thats it. We were in and out in about 10 minutes. The 3 year old wasnt having the standing around listening to information videos day. If the childrens area is fixed up, I may have a better review next time!
One of the coolest places every family should visit! history meets technology here and its amazing!
Very nice space, could use a few more exhibits but could see a small wedding or anniversary party in this space for sure. Food needs to be catered.
If you are looking for a great museum on shipping history on the great lakes, Port Explorium is very informative. The museum itself is decorated as if you were on board a ship with original materials. GPS track shipping vessels on Lake Michigan, learn about the heroic rescues abound a steamship disaster, and even play interactive games. This spot I would recommend to school groups, church youth functions, or even family stops. This museum has a little something for any enthusiast.
Interesting stop on trip through Port Washington. Well worth the few $ admission.
Fun, informative and interactive museum. Perfect size for the toddler. Very friendly staff.
