I love the Eldorado National Forest. Dispersed camping anywhere youd like is quintessential California. Im very happy to live so close that I can take day trips and check out everything it has to offer. Visit the lakes or rivers for brown and rainbow trout.
It was a perfect day... breathtaking views... unfortunately I left my phone in the car and have no pictures... we went for a short hike to a small lake... peaceful and beautiful... our German Shepherd was so happy and acted like a mountain goat.. well definitely be back!!
Like always we loved it. My folks and best friend camped for 5 days. Lovely weather and not a lot of smoke. Did lots of swimming and a bit of exploring in the jeep and ford explorer! Made it to the entrance of the Rubicon just past Wentworth springs i believe.(yes the Ford made it in lol) many campers lit fires even though there are restrictions but luckily most of them were at least keeping them small at not unattended. Cant wait to go back!
Peaceful and beautiful. Perfect place to escape to from the Sacramento heat. Have been going camping here ever since I was a child.
Absolutely breathtaking. Whether you are day hiking, back packing, camping or whatever, you need to get out here. It can get pretty hot in the summer so remember sunscreen and water. Winters are snow filled with very restricted access and most areas are closed. If you havent been and you are the outdoors type, then do yourselves a favor and go. The longer you spend and deeper you go, the more beautiful it gets so definitely plan ahead and invest some time. Its well worth it.
Beautiful! Just be careful on the roads out there, use your brights but beware of animals and deer!
Beauty in Cali. Makes you get away from it all..
It was wonderful. Loved the scenery and plenty of trails to hike. Not to mention the lakrs.
In the words of Thoreau...heaven is under your feet, and above your head. This place is a magical unexpected gem. Just an hour and a half from Sacramento. And just 40 mins before Lake Tahoe. The Horseshoe trail head is a little ambiguous at the start. Its also a more difficult trail for the first 400 feet up. But once you are on your way up, you will be rewarded with splendid scenery. And massive granite formations. The waterfalls are a treat. And a good way to cool off. Its easy to escape everything. With just a few steps into these woods. I will be back....very soon!
Great place for summer and winter fun. From snowboarding, to 4wheeling, mountain biking, hiking, camping, you can find something to do, and best part, a lot of areas have no cell phone coverage for total disconnect and getting in touch with nature. Did a 6 day camp trip and no cell phone was great, rivers felt great to take a dip in. Been coming up for 20+ years, and its always nice, not as hot as the valley during summer, so escape the heat next a nice alpine lake or river.
Went here for the 3rd time. Nice and beautiful. Peaceful. Great place for a family get together. Just go up the hill a little then theres a restroom stall to the left. But it does smell. So being toilet paper just in case n be prepare to hold your breath. Maybe being some Clorox wipes and hand sanitizers..Haha. have fun if you guys decided to go. Be safe. Stay safe.
Nature in all her glory.
Hope valley is a nice place to visit. Very pretty.
Wonderful place to get away from the city, swim in a chill lake crystal clear waters
It is a very difficult hike. But once you reach about 2 miles in there is a beautiful meadow and you cross over a meandering creek. Then another mile in and you reach a lake that is very scenic lake.
Amazing views. Very beautiful place to visit or vacation.
Best and beautiful place to go! Girard creek off silver fork and delight rd... and we even picked up a bag full of left behind trash. Always clean the area better then u found it.
There is so much to see here. I just absolutely love it here.
This girl found her happy place. You can camp and ride for free!
One of the most beautiful places on the blue marble. You cant describe the beauty in words. The towns and folks living in the area are just as awesome. Go explore the outdoors, you never know whats waiting for you.
We routinely camp and hike in EDNF. It’s convenient location and vast expanse and varied terrain makes it great for just about any skill level and activity. We recently visited and area and camped near Bassi Falls, then hiked to the falls the next morning. What a beautiful place to visit and explore the outdoors.
Great hike with beautiful views and sights.
The road up to Fallen Leaf Lake is mostly one lane and gets narrower the further you go with many turn outs. I suggest parking at the camp ground day parking area and hiking in a mile or so. The lake is beautiful with many places to swim or fish.
Love the out doors the clean air and the cool water the fishing was great
A billion miles of nature. Nothing better. Awesome camping. Bring lots of booze. Bring lots of friends. Bring lots of TP. Please leave it nicer than you found it.
40 minute hike from parking to Eagle Lake but only a 10 minute hike to the water falls. Eagle Lake is stunning, nestled between tall granite rocks, OK to swim but virtually no beach. Kids as young as 5 have made the hike.
Really good place Line Rock campground @ Eldorado National Forest
No better way to spend time then spending time in the great outdoors.
Breath takingly gorgeous. I have the wonderful opportunity of working here for the summer and am making plans to travel and hike in here on my off time
Went for a long hike and found this old car out in the forest. Anyone have an idea of what it is? I thought it was a vw at first but then I saw the motor? Never seen this car type before.
Beautiful scenic views and turning of the leaves!
Wildflowers everywhere! (early July 2018) Everyone has been so helpful and pleasant. We are having a great time on the horse trails. We will definitely be coming back!
Would highly recommend the Big Meadow to Round Lake trail!
Grabbed some boards from SUP California and camped out here for a couple of nights midweek. Such a perfect getaway at Union Valley Reservoir!
Dont bother coming this summer unless youre prepared to camp in the Backcountry. the camp site hosts are completely rude and dont bother to put up signs that campsites are reserved until after check in time causing an extreme inconvenience for those who got up early to get a first come first serve camping spot. Probably wont be coming back after covid is over either, you cant do anything unless you pay a fee for every little thing.
Nice hiking there!
Really loved this place! There weren’t a lot of people and the snow was fresh so it made for perfect sledding. I had a great time with my family here. We’re planning to come back again!
Great place to see. A nice place for photography.
I love the forest. The trails are amazing and always well maintained. The abundance of wildlife always makes a walk lovely.
Great hihe
We had been driving for a long time, when we finally stopped here to use the rest room which was surprisingly clean, we were surprised by the trails! There was snow on the mountain in July. Nice adventure and apparently you can hike into the Forrest and stay for days as we saw quite a few people backpacking out!
I love this forest. With many lakes and reservoirs and camping, its a beautiful and wild forest of redwoods cedars and more. Would highly encourage a drive through and especially a visit #camping
We have summited Rubicon for 13 years every summer. Our Goldens have joined us at the top as well.
Bear River Lake was a fantastic camping location. Far enough away to be really quiet but close enough to get help if needed. You can only get a taste of the beauty from the photos. Ive included a photo of a fallen log with wild mushrooms growing on it to a tree stump that a Piliated Woodpecker was working to remove a meal of bugs. The night sky framed by the pine trees and if course the beauty of the lake. We will be going back to explore more!
Very beautiful place to visit
Lucky to experience the beauty of our National Forests during the winter! ....it was epic!
Love Tahoe, its my happy place!
Gorgeous views, nice trails to hike.
A beautiful Fall day although the leaves havent quite turned yet. Almost all very blue sky with a few fluffy clouds. Coolness in the air and forest smells. A perfect walk!
Great national forest
Echo Lake in Desolation Wilderness. Amazing views, popular trail with good foot traffic.
Great get away at ice house.
This places is good for camping
Great 5 day hike in Desolation Wilderness, great trails, great camping at the many lakes. Swim at the end of the hike. We did the loop from Rockabound to Clyde Lake, to Gilmore Lake, to Middle Velma Lake, to Doris Lake and back. Super.
Great Day in Tahoe Thanks Fenner
Always a good time being off-road.Keep Public Lands Open to the Public
I love the Eldorado National Forrest, and highly recommend you visit. Just remember, it is a very wild place with potentially dangerous weather and snowpack. Know the conditions and how to be safe, before you go.
It was a great hike. The view from Ralston peak was great!! Nice flower blooms!!
Lots of snow and not windy made it a perfect day to go skiing. It was a great experience to go when the weather was perfect.
Our national forests are a treasure. This one has many places for established or dispersed camping and many accessible lakes and rivers. Home to the Union Valley Reservoir. Be sure to check for changing weather conditions as it can snow in some seasons.
One of the forest you drive through on the Rubicon trail.
It is always amazing! A new adventure around every turn.
This is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Hike it, Bike it, but I find new wonders daily here.
We hiked from Lyons Lake Creek all the way to Lyons Lake. It snowed on us 30 minutes after setting up camp. Beautiful wilderness and well maintained trails.
Amazing ovh trails along with riverside camping, cant get much better.
El Dorado forest is absolutely gorgeous and teeming with a wide range of wildlife. Bear sightings are so common, you can catch one bathing right along the dirt bike trails. Deer, geese, ducks, magpies, bluejays, and creatures of all sorts are not ahy to make their presence known. A great and beautiful forest that must be preserved.
It was an amazing forest with lots of animals
Came camping here on the motorcycle. Great roads and beautiful scenery. Cant be beat!
It is a great place to walk your cat even though Satan himself is dwelling in my cat we still had a pleasant time out among the leaves. Is also a good place for food to decompose and to worship the lord and Savior Mother Mary and Jesus Christ. do not recommend bringing a bible as it got soggy next time i will bring a waterproof bible and prayer beads.
This is a very pretty trail to walk at, our kids of 4 9, 10 and 14 all enjoyed the hiking and the spectacular view of the lake.
Great backcountry camping, beautiful area.
Pretty drive even though it was really smoky from all the fires in California.
This is the best place in the world nothing like it whatsoever anywhere else. If you get the time to visit the Sierra Nevada mountains you wont be disappointed whatsoever
Incredible, highly reccomended
Family adventure. Nice weather, perfect timing to go end of July, beginning of August, but they have no showers or running toilets. We had an RV, Trailer and Tents. We even went gold panning and found some!....only flakes.
Spectacular views and great hikes
O M G! What a beautiful place! I drove through Highway 50 to lake tahoe and the whole highway was breathtaking!! natural beauty at its best!
The untouched natural beauty of this forest is great to visit
Backpacked to Maud lake. Beautiful clean trails, and lakes. This was my 2nd time on trails in the Desolation Wilderness area. Love it.
Always great to be out side away from the concrete
Favorite place to visit again and again! Spent my honeymoon here and bout 10 anniversaries. Lots of memories!
Been camping in this area since I was born. Thanks to dad and grandpa. Use to have fish in the upper altitude lakes, they are all fished out. Hiking is the only fun now
Beautiful outdoors area well kept and icehouse campgrounds are fun and family friendly. Easy access to the lakes for some great fishing. Be sure to take adequate blankets and firewood because the nights are freezing. Overall its an easy drive in and they have a well stocked market. Gotta check out bassi falls when there.
The scenery is amazing. Road is smoothly paved
The camp ground was very nicely laid out. A cute stream nearby.
A beautiful location of piece.
So beautiful. Driving and walking options for tours. Great views. Highly recommend.
This is a beautiful area. Not much water around but plenty of camping spots in various places.
Definitely worth the trip
Air temperature during July not so bad, August probably nice, too. Any other time, be prepared for cold air. The water temperature MIGHT hit 60° if youre lucky. BEAUTIFUL water and scenery however.
Beautiful place to relax and get your feet wet!
Some of the most beautiful Forest and Scenic views youll find in California. Has lots of hiking biking and off-roading Trails available.
Our national forests are a treasure. There are many places for scattered camping. Beautiful lakes and rivers. Especially the beauty of the nature in different seasons. Each season has its own calorite of colors and its charm. This is the place where you will never tire of looking at this beauty.
