This fifty-something couple has done a lot of hiking, but never camped before. For us, this 6-day trip with Arizona River Runners was perfectly balanced – The guides provided sufficient support (navigating the boats while we ‘chilled’, explaining all that we were seeing, providing three meals each day). The guests were required to fend sufficiently for themselves by staking a place at the day’s campsite, pitching tents, cots and the like, helping to offload the boats at night and on-load in the morning. And speaking of guides, ours were wonderful. Thank you to Taylor, Bre, Blake, and Keegan. They split responsibilities for two rafts and 20 guests. They got along well with each other, while being friendly and inquisitive with all of the guests. Most importantly, they balanced the acknowledgement that the guests were there to relax and enjoy, while being adept at keeping us aware of the realities of life in the wilderness. Each day we went on some great adventures off the river. The hike to Deer Creek Falls was spectacular. As was going down the Little Colorado River on our bottoms. In summary, this is not the type of trip for those not bought-into a legitimate camping experience (lots of sand, hot nights, cold water – always peeing in the cold water – and some scary rapids). But for this couple of rookie campers, we couldn’t have enjoyed it more! Just can’t say enough good things about ARR!

Went on 7-day motorized rafting trip through the Grand Canyon and EVERYTHING about this trip blew me away. I would recommend ARR again and again and again. The equipment, excursions, knowledge and attitude of staff, and overall atmosphere were top-notch. AND THE FOOD!! We didnt have the same meal twice for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert, and we had plenty of snacks throughout the day provided by the crew. My expectations were far exceeded. A few highlights include tackling the rapids, hiking to some of the most gorgeous views and water features Ive ever seen, socializing (distantly) with fellow adventure-seekers around the fire, and sleeping under the stars every night. If youre going to do the Grand Canyon, this is the only way to do it in my book. Thank you, ARR, for the trip of a lifetime!

They were awesome both on the river and leading up to our 7-day motor experience. In the midst of all this COVID, they kept me very informed of the status of our trip. Once out on the river, the guides were incredible and prepared for everything, including swapping out a motor. These trips will NOT be impeded! The captains expertly guided the rafts exactly where they needed to be. Almost too smooth! ;-) They selected choice camping spots and timed it right so we wouldn’t be crowded out by other trips. Food was excellent and always plentiful. They even entertained (not part of the package!). Can’t say enough good things.

We took advantage of a last minute opening in the June/July 7-Day Trip. it was the perfect escape from the Rim World. Ive done this trip once before, and several other Grand Canyon adventures, but something about this particular combination of crew, fellow travelers, the stunning, eternal beauty of the river and Canyons and the state of the world we left behind really magical.. We appreciated the way ARR schedulers and crew planned for the best possible trip given the Covid reality; great communication, planning, and protocols to balance mitigation with the reality of being on the river. We especially want to call out: 1) Riley, the runner with the most amazing storytelling, teaching and problem-solving abilities. She really made this experience for us; and 2) the group of interesting, fun and funny people we shared the trip with. Interacting with and getting to know 15 other human beings was really special!

ARR is the best way to explore the Grand Canyon. The boatmen were friendly, knowledgeable and hard working. The boats and the gear were top notch. My family had the best trip of our lives thanks to the ARR team. I highly recommend ARR for anyone wanting to explore the Canyon for the first time or the tenth time.

We just went on a 6 day Motor Trip and it was absolutely amazing! The food was outstanding, the scenery and side trips were stunning, and everything was planned out so well. What really made the trip was the guides though. Their knowledge of the Canyons history and geology was extensive, they were friendly and fun, and you could really tell they love what they do. They also worked so hard to make everyone feel included and comfortable. We are already planning our next trip!

Everything they described and said to be prepared for was right on the money. Once we got on the river the five guides that we had knew a everything about the canyon knew what we needed to do how we needed to do it. Communicated very well and made sure that we had the time of our life. Would and will go back again. Did the 3-day motor lower half will probably do 7-Day upper half.

ARR is an excellent way to see the Grand Canyon up close and personal. We did the 8 day motor trip. The guides are well trained in river lore, canyon history and geology, and boatmanship, and professionally guided us through the rapids and daily side trips. The equipment provided is in good condition and suited to the environment and the food was excellent. I would take this tour again in a heartbeat!

I laid in my cot, looking up at a million stars on my first night in the canyon and thought to myself, What have I gotten myself into now? Im a 53 year old woman, traveling solo on this trip. I had never been on a raft and hadnt been camping in decades. I thought maybe Id bitten off more than I could chew. As we made our way down river on day 2 and spotted big horn sheep grazing, condors (yes, California condors), osprey fishing for breakfast, and red trailed hawks, all with the backdrop of the most indescribable beauty, I didnt want the trip to end. I chose the 8 day motorized trip. I thought, if Im going to see the Grand Canyon, I wanted to see it all. And we did! If you could pick your guides, youd want Joe, Chris, Matt, and Carter. I was thoroughly impressed by Joes in depth knowledge (though I later learned hed be guiding in the canyon since the early 90s), Chris is a master chef with a penchant for history, Matt is an excellent story teller and young Carter has no shortage of antics. They made this trip what it was. Fantastic! Push the button! Pull the trigger! Become a river rat! Im so glad I did.

This outfit is absolutely fantastic. We did a 6 day motor boat trip in July and could not have had a better time. The Grand Canyon is truly majestic from the dissecting view on the Colorado River. The trip is fairly physically exerting although they do a great job making sure everyone is able to participate. Speaking of participation this is a group effort as there is tons of gear and everyone is expected to chip in to make things run smoothly. Guides made the trip. They work so hard to provide everyone a memorable experience. I would do a thorough review of the different type of trips they offer to figure out what will be right for your group.

This trip was so amazing that its hard to put in words. It is 6 days of greatness all around. You forget that you are not home, that you dont have phone service the entire time, the only technology around is your camera. The crew is amazing; Arizona River Runners have such a great system going that they dont miss a beat. It is a perfectly oiled machine that they have running.Pack light; youll need less than you think. Really good rain gear is a must, as well as a hat and/or sunscreen. The heat doesnt bother much because its a dry heat, so wear long sleeve shirt and pants (ideally with detachable legs to make shorts).Do it!!!

My husband and I just returned from a 7 day motor raft trip on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon starting at Lees Ferry. This well organized yet go-with-the flow river trip was an adventure of a life time. ARR provided quality gear, outstanding meals and snacks, and passionate, knowledgeable, experienced guides! The information narrated on the history and geology of the region as we glided down river was not only informative, but also entertaining, and sparked a hunger to learn more! We both were amazed by the beauty and lushness of the hidden canyons and waterfalls revealed on our side canyon hikes. One favorite is the milky blue green Little Colorado River, in which we wore our life jackets like britches and floated down river and over low water falls and rock chutes! I also appreciated that the sand we encountered on the Colorado River was like powdered sugar and not abrasive! Though the temperatures were hot in the afternoons and evenings, the river was our source for cool dips and wet sheets were the key to restful nights. We liked that all guests worked together to load and unload the rafts. The team work was bonding and made light work of setting up and taking down camp. Kudos to Jo, Erica, John, David, and Cash for your hard work and kind and serving attitudes!!

My Professor friend could only go in the 120F shade, heat of Summer, so we both signed up. Then his new gal partner pulled his chain and he cancelled last minute. I had no travel insurance like Allianz so I went from the sf Bay Area. Early Spring or late Autumn is much cooler air temps. Europeans love to bus to the Rim in less crowded Winter, less expensive too, off season.I had Tecnu poison oak soap at home but there was no heads-up warning of non native poison ivy along the Colorado River from either NPS or ARR that year. I liked the small 5 person rafts and 2 women Rowers! The water temp was 36F, great for a cool off swim in first mile! The tents are dark fabric and stifling Hot so I wonder if white tents could be used. The first night after camp set up and a tasty dinner, some guides got out spin rods and caught lots big fat rainbow trout. Then for their second dinner alone, drank my case of can beer, every can.The next day I saw the poison ivy, leaflets of 3, and somehow got the oil on my red constant itchy rash arms and legs for 2 weeks. We had one Guide who recited hours of poetry. Another Rower talked all the rock layers geology. Another knew all about the big fat pink rattlesnakes in camp and wild sheep, wildlife and native sites. Our leader was a tall skinny guy and Excellent!!So you could change rafts and enjoy the quiet, the river, and all this expertise each day.Safety was a big concern. People drown and die, sucked under by frequent whirlpools. One long wooden oar was sucked off and never surfaced! One gal was on crutches as a Repeater and loved it. At every rapid all the many rafts in our group pulled over and the guides studied the changing safest route. The Leader gave orders and all the Rowers obeyed and followed. Except once, on the famous big vertical standing waves rapid, one guided asked if any wanted to go with him down the gut middle, not the ordered safer shoulder side. Four did. We watched what seemed impossible, rowing vertical faster over every standing wave. They made it!! TheLeader told us he would be fired after the 13 day float. One day we were scheduled to walk up side canyons to famous cascades, but our trusty Leader noticed the common huge vertical thunder and lightning storm clouds in the far far distance, and ordered we float on and set up a high sandbar safe camp early. We pulled in on the right.Someone set up the toilet.Someone set up the fire grate and cook table. All the hot dark tents were set up. Then the Most Dangerous Show started!!It was still Hot in the evening dusk and we heard loud rumbling noises coming from the next R side canyon. The leader walked us over to the high bank and the rumbling noise got louder and louder. As the sky darkened from the approaching thunderstorm dark clouds, this high brown wall of mud and giant tumbling boulders the size of vw bugs appeared from the R side canyon !!The ground shook, but not like the Oct 1989 Santa Cruz 6.9 quake! I looked to see if the Leader or other Rower Guides would retreat back away, but they stood and Celebrated about 50yards away from this flash flood freight train! Then I understood why the Leader had cancelled the famous L side canyon walks earlier that day.We had a diverse group. An Ottowa arbitration lawyer and his fun wife and cute daughter. And a couple that always ran to the best camp site first. The meals were always tasty and one lunch we could barely find any shade on the R side. Glad I had cool light long sleeves and big sun hat, shades on leash. Learned lots!I would Never go Summer Again! as I hate heat, humidity, flies, mosquitoes, no see ums, etc. The heat made the poison ivy itch rash worse, so I soaked in the 36F cold river and used sand to rub the crust and blisters off. I would bring a short cheap spin rod for all the fat trout, and a Fishing License. TECNU in a secure Nalgene! But no suggested box of wine or case of beer. You probably wont get any!The 5 pax rafts were much more fun,my opinion, than the big long 2 tied weiner motorized party rafts or the few wooden boats.

ARR is the best outfitter and river guides around. We had the trip of a lifetime. We were well-prepared ahead of time, and the crew took excellent care of us. I am not much of an outdoorsy person. Im almost 50, curvy and not very athletic. If I can do this trip, ANYONE can. Just book it with ARR!

Went on a three-day motorized float with a family group of 10. It exceeded expectations! The staff was friendly, professional and attentive. They put our safety and comfort first, and made a genuine attempt to show & teach us about the river & Canyon. Frank was 100% on the mark as a host, Stacy was amazingly educated & passionate about sharing her knowledge of the history, geology & culture and Zach was a master at navigating & driving the raft. I cant wait to go again!

The guides were a stellar part of the tour: caring, knowledgeable, helpful, skilled, and clever. They explained and modeled natural resource conservation principles, and helped participants to do the same. They were waste-conscious and encouraged participants to protect and keep the beaches clean. In addition, they were very vigilant about minimizing risk of injuries and the spread of germs (and, potentially, illness) among participants, reminding them to wash hands and pee and poop in the proper places. The guides were also thoughtful about accommodating individual needs, and distributing themselves so none of our party had to worry about being left behind or without support on the hikes into the side canyons. They also made a real effort to remember everyone’s names from the get-go.The rafts and cots were much more comfortable than we expected, and having chairs was quite welcome. All the systems for stowing and deploying cots, chairs, etc. were very well organized. In fact, we were amazed at how well organized the rafts were for stowing and “disgorging” all the needed equipment, including cooking, dishes, toilets, etc.The meals were great -- we especially appreciated the variety at breakfast and dinner and the made-to-order preparation, whether it was eggs, omelets, or steaks. We also appreciated the fresh veggies and fruits for meals and snacks, the grilled salmon and meats, the hearty breakfasts and dinners, plus the availability of canned V8 and other nutritious snacks. We loved the choice of side canyon excursions: Redwall Cavern, Little Colorado River, Stone Creek Falls, and Deer Creek Falls. We also appreciated the guides providing a thumbnail summary, after the fact, of all the places we had stopped.Sleeping under the stars free of light pollution was spectacular. The trip exceeded our long-held dream!Ann Marshall

Another amazing trip with Arizona River Runners - 6 Day Grand Canyon - Lees Ferry to WHitmore Wash. This time with lifelong friends. Trip started out being greeted by our Trip Leader Jake who remembered me from a 2014 trip with 13 family members. Jake is a fantastic trip leader. His focus on safety is beyond reproach and his storytelling ability always brings the evening to a fun and interesting close. I used to be a river guide many years ago and Jakes skills, not just in the big waves but also managing the challenges of leadership, people interaction, logistics and unexpected events are unmatched ( usually with a little humor thrown in ) I hope to be back in several years with my younger family members and I know Ill try and make sure we run Grand Canyon with Jake as our leader !

My wife and I just finished an eight day trip from Lees Ferry to the take out at the ranch 187 miles downstream. I had done this trip is 1979. Tjhis trip was amazing. Our three guides Marty, Julie and Raychel were absolutely outstanding. Being one of the older folks on the trip they saw to it that I had the help I needed and always had an option if the side canyon hike was too challenging. The food was fantastic. We were provided cots, sleeping bags and a groover. All of that was not there in 1979. Their knowledge of the river was outstanding and their talks were worth the price of the trip alone. I rate this an unqualified recommended trip for the experience, comfort and the service. Jody Humber Phoenix,Az
