Peoria Zoo is a cute little zoo perfect for the younger crowd. It has just enough animals so as not to bore them. Plan on a two hour trip; it really wont take you longer to go through. Even the older kids love seeing their favorites, and following their life journeys (pregnancies and births of the newborn animals).
Small but impressive zoo with some great exhibits. The White Rhino, Giraffes and the Siberian Tiger was unexpected and standouts. The setting in a wooded park was also great and the covid precautions made it feel safe.
Visited the Zoo during Covid restrictions in early November. It was a pleasure to see all the guidelines being followed and we were still able to have a wonderful time. Lots of animals playing today.
For as small of a city Peoria is, it is nice to still have a city zoo. While some people complain and try to compare it to city zoos like St. Louis and Chicago, I have an enjoyable time each time we go on nice weather days. There are a variety of animals too see, the park is kept clean, and the renovation to the Africa exhibit is a great way to see the Giraffes up close. It is a great place to take the family, the kids, or a date! Enjoy the Glen Oak Park by taking a picnic while you are there.
This place has grown so much through the years Ive gone. I cant recommend it enough. The animal experiences where you get to go in with the animals are a fun experience. Staff there are always really friendly and love answering all my questions about sloths. I cant get enough of the sloths. They are hands down my spirit animal.
Went with my son and his family from Minnesota and had an aweful experience. No exhibits are open.....no buildings are open ( we were told lodge would be open for at least getting cool but was closed) bathrooms were all closed but the ones in the main entrance....my daughter in law had to go bad and was greeted by 2 employees in one of the bathrooms by 2 zoo workers and told that she had to use the bathrooms at the front entrance and these were closed. The animal exhibits opened have a rope 6 feet away from the viewing fences so you cant even really see the animals in the open let alone none of them in the indoor exhibits including the primate area which is closed as well the petting zoo is also closed. We were also told MASKS are required outside while walking around the designated path although we did witness 3 staff walking around with no masks. The zoo NEEDS to let everyone know this information at the main entrance before paying $10.50 per person....this was an aweful experience and we will not go back....
Great visit to the zoo! Even tho the indoor attractions were closed due to COVID the rest of the animals were out and very active! Enjoyed being there!
Not massive but a great way to spend a weekend with the family with a good nature review. Beautiful animals and yummy food. The gift shop is not that big but is fun to stop in and play with toys. Good customer service. Good place to have lunch with the family and friends .
We always love coming out to the zoo on nice days to get put of the house and enjoy the weather. We have a membership that pays for itself with only a couple visits per year.
Great set up for covid times, but keep in mind all indoor areas, interactive areas etc. are closed. They have one shopping area set up outside. One-way lane through all the exhibits. Easy to social distance. One of the few family fun activities that there are no worries of safety! Giraffes, rhinos, zebras, baboon in Africa were all very active. As was the walk through with emus, cockatoo, and wallabys.
We Had Fun... Wish We Could Have Seen All The Animals That Were Closed Off...But Enjoyed It For The Most Part...☆☆☆☆☆
It was a good experience but i feel if you’re going to have most of everything closed off there should be some sort of discount. we tried going into the australia part and because we didn’t have a mask we were told to go straight to the exit and my two year old cried. too expensive,
A great place to spend a half day. Picnic areas, and a small but wonderful zoo. The animals seem very happy and active. Great for families!
Ive been going to this zoo my entire life. I know theyre doing the best they can under the circumstances, however this zoo has went completely down hill. Overpriced and takes maybe 45 minutes to walk the entire zoo, half of which you will see no animals. Its sad to say, but this will probably be the last time I visit this zoo. I know this isnt a BIG zoo in a BIG city, but this is almost embarrassing to be honest. Even my 10 year old said it was boring and a waste of money. At least I can say theyre open, and the animals do look healthy, thats about it though.
Had great time with grandkids there..weather was great to go...zoo very clean and safe
Zoo personnel is fantastic, as always and that goes for all park district people, they always seem to care about your experience
I used to love this local zoo. That was until they got rid of the seals. So did Miller Park in Bloomington. That was a factor in my star deduction, its also not the most manual wheelchair user friendly, think steep long ramps and STEEP hills that can send you careening of the path into a rail or bush. Cool. The woman who kept the gift shop open for us while I made a decision on items, and helped tell us about item turnover, was wonderful!
The Peoria Zoo is a nice attraction for the area. They have a nice selection of animals and play areas for kids. The Africa exhibit is the best part in property. They also have a nature walk with some animals walking around in it. Is it the best Zoo? No, but it’s really good for not having to drive a long distance.
Great place! People were friendly and very helpful. Place was clean. It was easy to get around. The animals were very active! I have never seen animals so active. Very cool!
I am so thankful that we have this zoo in our area. They have a wide variety of animals and a staff that is friendly, helpful and take the time to answer questions.
Its close to home. Its a fairly nice zoo. I just wish it was bigger
This was our 2nd time going and our last we were through the whole zoo in about 30 mins and maybe seen 6 different animals we understand with covid stuff was gonna be closed but I feel tickets should be half price for what you get.
Im sure the Covid-19 had an effect on the quality and atmosphere of the place. It was a great walking adventure. More walking than animals visible.
Great zoo, but was very upset the gift shop and the outdoor set up were closed. My daughters 6th birthday she wanted a souvenir.
Cute little zoo that wont take too long to get through, meaning the kids wont be whining about leaving because theyre bored and tired. Lol! For about the same price as going to the movies you can get pretty close to all the animals, have a good half day outside, and maybe learn a thing or two!
Absolutely lovely Zoo! We came for a short visit, but stayed the whole day! The staff is so fun and patient...Jordan and Phil were both so helpful and kind, they really helped to make our visit special. It was great to be around so many exotic animals and kind happy people! The wonderful food in the Very Clean and air conditioned restaurant was a Big plus to cool us down and fill us up mid day! Best day Ever! ☆☆☆☆☆ Thank you all!! ☆☆☆☆☆
Enjoyed coming here ...gotta come back to visit
Small and expensive. Set up for covid-19 safety.
One way path around the zoo was easy to navigate, and love the Australian Walk About exhibit.
Always amazing!
We’re members and typically visit 1-5 times per month. Average visit is about 1 hour. The expanded Africa exhibit is awesome - the animals have better enclosures and you can get close enough to watch their interactions. They’re always making improvements as the budget allows.
This is a very clean facility. Not too big but not too small. All staff were very friendly and helpful. This was my first trip and Ill definitely be going back many times.
Nice place to bring the kids. Lots of animals to look on to.
Even under state lockdown its an awesome place to visit to get outside. Animals were active and the Mandrill even shooed me away.
Peoria zoo is always a nice time. its a very relaxing atmosphere.
Great little zoo especially with little kids! Lots of animals but not a long walk.
The Peoria Zoo has come a long, long way in the last few years. Animals look clean and healthy, enclosures are well maintained, and there is a renewed focus on teaching and learning.
Took my kids to the zoo and it only took 15 minutes to walk the entire zoo. Most of the exhibits are closed. Why would you charge full price for half of the event. It feels like my tax money to build the zoo was used so the zoo can rob my fellow Citizens of money. Charge half price while the exhibits are closed or stay shut down.
Nice zoo not too big which makes it great for little ones but still penty of thing to do.
The Peoria Zoo is a great place to take the kids on a day off of school. There are so many animals to see and the animals are really well taken care of. This is a place of enjoyment and you can see it all around you. I would definitely come here again and even bring my family to see
Beautiful zoo. Fun place to go with family.
Animals look very healthy, nice place.
Great place to take the kids.
The websites states they close at 430 on Sundays. We arrived at 3:30 and was told all the animals would be put away in 20 minutes and still was told to pay full price! They dont even close in 20minutes!!!!!
Nice small zoo. Easy to walk around with kids and see everything
I love seeing all the animals they are so cute best place ever ️ ️
Year of the zoo 1961_1969//(Clarksdale Mississippi)-1969-
We had a good time. Zoo was well maintained and had a great assortment of animals. Was a pretty cool day so all the animals where out and about. Layout wasnt too bad, flowed all in one direction so you could see everything. Had nice play areas for the kids also when they got antsy and needed to run some. All the employees where nice and courteous. I would recommend checking it out.
Very nice! It gets nicer every time we go.
Spent the day with my son Brayden and fiance and it was nice to be welcomed back after several years. Staff was very nice and the prices seemed reasonable.
Always enjoy and supporting local Zoos
Just right for grandparents to take grandchildren. Not so large that you cant see everything in a few hours. You can bring your own drinks and lunch. Plenty of places to quick picnic. For young families I would suggest bringing your own food and drinks as the prices are a little steep in the restaurant. The souvenir shop has a large selection from which you can find more reasonably priced items to remember your visit.
Great zoo! Cute and little and shady and pretty!
Every time we come to this zoo, we run into Care staff that you can tell is really focused on giving the animals their best life. Always friend and willing to share information about the animals and conservation of their habitats.
We loved our experience there at the zoo.. We will Definitely be coming back..
Great Zoo! The zoo was nice an clean, animals looked well cared for. Hubby an i went on a sunday morning after visiting the irish fest. It took about 1 1/2 hours to go thru, plus browsing in the gift shop. If the kids were with us prob add another 30 minutes. Several exhibits had keepers with the animals to answer questions. There are special events every month to check out. There is an Australian Walk About that was interesting.....Wallabys were roaming free as well as a couple Emus. We would visit again!
We love the Peoria Zoo.
Me and my family really enjoyed our trip. We came from an hour away. Definitely worth the short drive. They have a rhino!!!♡♡♡
A lot of the animals were off display for the winter, but they still charged full price. The zoo has giraffes, lions, tigers, monkeys and all sorts of things for kids to get hyped about.
Great Zoo. My kids loved the bird feeding area.
Very nice place
The gift shops and restaurants are pretty expensive and I feel like the overall experience could definitely be revamped. It’s an alright pass time for the kids.
Great place, lots of animals.
Its a small zoo. Clean
Nicely maintained zoo with variety of animals to see.
Great place to take the young and old.
My bf and I went there today and u need to charge half price while the exhibits r shut down we only saw like 5 animals .that was a waste of money
I was very disappointed. And wanted a refund
The last time I went it wasnt so very nice the buildings are locked up due to The Cove in the break so the kids didnt get to see half the animals that was actually there that you could see because they were all in their buildings
Family had fun. Small to mid-sized zoo. Various animals I hadnt seen before. Boa as big as I have ever seen. Happy and health animals. Beautiful lion and tiger pairs.
We loved this little zoo.. Its perfect for my 3 year old, big enough to have all the essential animals but small enough you get to be super close to them.. We had a very enjoyable day and will definitely visit again before we leave Illinois..
Very fun place to take the kids. It gives them a chance to explore and fully immerse themselves in this vast environment. I believe there are close to 30 different types of animals. We went on a weekday when they first opened so it was like our own private zoo, no waiting around in lines and first for everything. I will bring them back at least 5 more times this season. Also, I would recommend the season pass.
Such a great zoo for a town of this size
Not a good experience. Very less animals and they charge you around $9 as entry.. I would prefer St. Louis zoo than this.
Great format for social distancing.
Zoo was nice, very clean. More hoofed animals would be nice to see. Also more big cats would be nice to see. Having four giraffes was nice. I just feel like they could use more animals!
We love our Peoria Zoo!!! So thankful to have this great facility so close to home!!
With the virus protocol it wasnt horrible still pricey for what you could see.
What a great experience. Great zoo, extremely kid friendly (so many play areas), and the animals were fun. Highly recommend!
This place has a park.childrens museum.botanical garden.and a lagoon. Wow!! Its very vintage everything neefd updating. But it has charm and craftsmanship.
Great time. Staff was knowledgeable and extremely courteous. My seven year old told me she had a very great day.
They have done some nice updates of animal habitats
Had our Family Reunion in the African Exhibit. Awsome!!!
Having grown up in Peoria and knowing the old zoo I am so happy to visit this zoo again. They have gone above and beyond for a small town and it a great place to spend a few hours. Awesome Giraffes. And I think I remember that huge turtle from when I was little. Take the kids and enjoy yourself.
Nice zoo. Great selection of Animals.
Had our 20 Year Reunion here, had an awesome time.
Fun zoo.
A medium size zoo, allow 2-3 hours. Pretty easy to navigate. Several exhibits were still closed or only had one animal all alone. Military discount was strangely only for active duty, not retired. The African exhibit was really good!
My granddaughter had my great grandsons birthday party here it was lovely I really enjoyed it and the kids enjoyed it animals
Nice small zoo, free parking. Close to the childrens play house.
Smaller zoo, but nicely laid out and nice enclosures for the animals. Weve been several times and will continue to go back.
Best time with my mom in years!
Nice place to visit with family.
