Pensacola museum of Art was founded by a group of women in 1954 who wanted to fill the creativity void that scared the Florida panhandle. Today, it sits in the location of “the 1906 Old City Jail (Wikipedia).”This museum is known for it Spanish Revival-styles architecture and managed by hospitable staff who make you feel welcomed.

Awesome place! Great supporters of our talented local youth. Lots of great events.Plus the historic building itself is a work of art, with its exposed brick & quirky remnants from when it was a Jail.

Great exhibition on Peruvian art—different from what I expected (not just local art), and made me think. Nice gift shop—some inexpensive finds. Out in the square just to the NE is a great set of mostly sea-themed pieces painted by local artists .on big cubes

Good place, too little and not much art. With all the rich population they could lend some art for private exhibits and expanding the culture of art.

Always love the Pensacola Museum of Art. It if a testament to repurposing the old into something positive, beautiful and necessary. Friday night was wonderful. Got to meet Jeff VanderMeer and listen to him talk about his wonderful book Annihilation. He was witty and real, charismatic and kind, articulate and all together amazing.

I love art. I love walking through walls and walls of art and being able to appreciate things. This museum is a little boring, not going to lie. I went through it pretty fast. But there is some seriously amazing art, and the atmosphere is really amazing!! It’s also right down town, close to lots of things. You can usually find free parking and just walk all day!

There should be a few minimum requirements before a place can legally call itself a museum. I doubt if there were a thousand square feet of exhibit, and the quality was more disconcerting than the quantity. We came because of their websites claim to have Picasso. Well, its in climate-controlled storage and is not on display.

This museum is a cornerstone of the culture of Pensacola. The wide variety of art they bring in is interesting. They have been increasing the number of events they are hosting, and they are super fun to attend. I would highly recommend this museum to anyone that wants to experience the best of Pensacola arts and culture.

New resident to Pensacola. Went to the museum with my parents and one of my 3 sons. As other posts have said, very small museum. Dealt with a fairly silent front desk worker who spoke little and so softly everyone in our group near the counter struggled to hear. Paid up and entered. Art? Guess we should have researched the place first. Didnt even occur to us to ask if there was actually art in the place. 95% of displayed pieces were school kid art----which is fine, and some of it was actually very good. But, as I trust anybody can imagine, not overly interesting unless I suppose your child has submitted art. But, I get it from the museums point of view.....far more paying to get in to see their kids art than would ever enter otherwise. Our group was clearly unhappy, front desk gal knew it and didnt care. We were out of there very quickly and wont be back. Two days later happened to walk into the art gallery next store. FAR more art to be viewed....and for free with pleasant workers.Id encourage all potential visitors to this art museum to do there own research ahead of time to see if there is a traveling exhibit of particular note. If not, skip it and spend your time downtown viewing the many other places that are great....and many free and in the open air. Downtown is a museum itself if one is historically inclined!

The current Cut Up / Cut Out exhibit is excellent. Spent almost an hour admiring the variety of artwork presented in this collection from many artists. This ends June 17th, 2018. This small downtown museum is housed in the old City Jail, which makes it a unique venue.

This is quite a small museum, and a thorough trip takes at most an hour. But part of the charm is the building itself. This was once the old jail, and many of the fixtures have been left intact. Certainly worth a visit as the exhibits change often and there is always something new to see. There is a little kids activity nook with books and art supplies to occupy little ones, and the small gift shop has a variety of reasonably-priced childrens items (lots of Melissa & Doug)! We will certainly be back.

This is a tiny museum. We went because they had a fabulous traveling Andy warhol exhibit with a connected art event for families, which was really enjoyable. However, downstairs they had a nude photo exhibit, rather incongruous. I wish theyd had the decency to place a cautionary sign for all the families coming in. Their permanent collection is a joke- a gold painted cooler, etc.

We where going there expecting to see art. What we recieved was in poorer taste. The bottom floor was a bunch of photos of modern sites from ww2. While the next room where photos off ww2 survivors. While the top floor exhibit was about a journey going through mexico. So all i got to say and as a person who enjoys thinking about the greater meaning of things please dont try to relate these current affairs with those of the holocost survivors putting them in the same boat. You should be more concerned with showing art instead of politics.
