Had such a great time!! Ive taken my kiddos(ages 6, 9 and 10) to many different museums and todays experience has got to be one of my favs! We were welcomed by one of the nicest and very well informed docents ever, Miss Leah. She was so friendly and very welcoming. They were so well organized, they had plenty of helpful staff, and lots of space to move around. We had such a good time that we will be back for more!! Thanks so much to Miss Leah and Miss Susan for making our experience a pleasant one
What a nice little gem of a museum. They had two wonderful exhibitions going on especially I enjoyed the Judy Chicago show. And I recommend everybody should go see that.
A must see for residents and visitors. Nice and manageable with 3 exhibitions throughout the year. Live music, poetry amidst art works when open late nights. Perfect for an artist date, afternoon of culture. Easy stroll from #OldPasadena
A worthwhile place to enjoy in Pasadena. Stuff there are absolutely nice and kind. Highly recommended! Don’t forget buy yourself some postcards if you want.
Ive heard that this place is closing down. Unfortunate, This is perhaps the best art Museum that I have ever been to. I would go as far as to say that this place is smaller but nearly on par with the Uffizi. It is smaller than the Met in New York but has a better selection of Art. I will be sad to see this place go. If you have a chance go and see it with your friends and family before it is gone forever.
This Museum will permanently closed on October 7th. So if you read this after that you are out of luck. There is a parking lot as well as underground parking both are free. Its a small Museum and very easy to accomplish in an hour or so. There are no restaurants in the museum itself. But youre in Pasadena so there are many in walking distance. There is a very nice museum store but once again 10/7/ 18 is its closing day.
Wish it was more bigger, seems very expenisve for such a small place. Didnt like the atmosphere. Normally in museums you have guides helping you understand more about the art and ask if the visitor have any questions or concerns. But in here I thought the guide was just there to guard and following me around if I was going to do something to the art. Not a good experience.
A very good parking area and best place to spend some time.
I enjoy their consistently well-executed and interesting exhibitions. The museum is like an intimate gallery space, which makes it easy to enjoy and immerse oneself in, without needing to dedicate a large part of a day.
The place is very beautiful and special I visited with my family and enjoyed ourselves very much.
Its small, its laid back and kinda uninspiring. I went for the Cuban movie poster exhibit which was fascinating. Our movies over the years given a fresh perspective by Cuban artists.
I do really love this place. It is so relaxing and I just feel better being here. I like to take my family to share in the great collection. I highly recommend this place. Its also located in a great central location in Pasadena and I love to cruise the area. Check it out!
The museum deals with Californian artists and art and the influences the State has had on the art scene. The exhibits are usually very interesting and theyve had many amazing works here, from modern art to Catalina tiles, to Californian watercolors. Definitely worth checking out. Theres a mural in the parking lot inside the building and if thats full, theres a parking structure across the street as well as street parking.
The Eduardo Carrillo exhibit is captivating and provocative. The Feminine Siblime works of art are beautiful and stimulate awareness of whats happening to our environment. Finally, Ana Serranos urban landscape made entirely of paper is impressive in detail and accuracy. The paper flowers that visitors are encouraged to create onsite is a novel idea. My son and I truly enjoyed our visit.
Small but nice, closing at the end of September 2018 I believe (permanently)
We went there on a Thursday. It was beautiful and the staff, an old lady was really nice. There was an exhibition going on.However the place, was much smaller than I had anticipated.
A bit pricey ($7 for adults) for what the museum was offering. There wasnt much - mostly paintings of boats, the crucifixion, and movie posters - but the gift shop was amazing.
Perfect sized museum! A very compelling artist Eduardo Carillo beautifully displayed. Convenient to USC Asia Pacific Museum too
My wife and I spent a couple of very enjoyable hours at the PMCA when we visited last month. They had a very interesting retrospective of work by Claire Falkenstein, an artist whose work we were not familiar with. The museum had a wide selection of excellent works in a variety of media. It was very well presented, along with a video on her career. In a smaller gallery was a collection of photographs by Brett Weston. We plan to go back the next time we are in the LA area.
Great and eclectic collection of art in a museum that isnt overwhelmingly huge.
Small, but great work being done and interesting exhibits
Great museum. the staff is also knowledgeable if you have any questions. would like to return when they have a new set of art!
Ive loved experiencing art show here! So vry saddened to know it is closing!
Every time that Ive been here it was nice. Just know that if you are trying to plan your day dont give so much block out time to this place. Its very small. Place is clean.
Great and eclectic collection of art in a museum that isnt overwhelmingly huge.
A bit short in interactive experience, but the drawing features local artists that make it great for someone to learn painting technique or sculpture
Cool museum with small exhibitors. Tight and well run. Not a place to longer forever.
Great exhibits and a well-sized museum store. Easy access, free parking in a garage painted in surreal Krylon paint!
The exhibitions here are always wonderful. But the thing I like most is the gift shop. The gift shop contains a lot of treasures. If you are on a budget and you really want to go, visit during Pasadenas ARTNight which occurs twice a year. Entrance is free during ARTNight.
Every exhibit Ive seen there has been enjoyable, and I try to see them all. Not really a permanent collection kind of place, so read up about the exhibits, what you see is what you get.
Easy to breeze through the exhibit on your lunch break! Amazing place!
The price of admission is as good as the exhibits. PMCA has free midsize indoor parking designed with kosmic art. The museums galleries showcase breadth of art and design by different artist across the country from abstract photography to colorful canvas. Visitors can easily breeze through the art exhibits in an hour.
Smaller than I expected, but admission was free and the exhibit was California themed which was nice.
A nice offering of modern and contemporary art works.
We Really Enjoyed Visiting The Pasadena Museum of California Art!Back on Saturday, August 27, 2015, I went to visit this wonderful art museum with Anthony, BJ and Diego! We all had such a very nice time visiting there. When we were there, we saw three different art exhibits featuring:Claire Falkenstein: Beyond SculptureBrett Weston: Significant DetailsKat Hutter and Roger Lee: Another California DayAll of the artists work was well worth the visit!Furthermore, this art museum showcases art and design originating from California and was founded by long-time Pasadena residents and art collectors Robert and Arlene Oltman. The Ground was broken in 2000 and the museum officially opened in June 2002.Please Note: The museum does not house a permanent collection, but instead features changing exhibits. Notable exhibitions have included Maynard Dixon: Masterpieces from the Brigham Young University and Private Collections, the largest exhibition of Dixons art to date; Wayne Thiebaud: 70 Years of Painting, a retrospective survey; Data + Art: Science and Art in the Age of Information, organized in conjunction with Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and a mid-career retrospective of painter Mark Ryden. The museum hosts the California Design Biennial.I more than highly recommend this art museum on your next visit to Pasadena, California!Thank you.Sincerely yours,Howard Paul ShoreAnthony DeGoedeBJDiegoVisitors
