I sent my friends to this place with my warmest recommendations. I visit this restaurant often. I get very good feedback from my friends. The meals are delicious and the crew is welcoming and cooperative. always when we eat in this place we have a lovely evening. highly recommended.
A quirky bar where you can get full shell peanuts and toss them on the floor. Its my favorite dive bar in Palo Alto. The drinks are cheap and strong. I like coming here and playing Foosball. They also have pool and air hockey. Sometimes the bartenders have a bit of an attitude and can bring down the vibe.
Ive been going to Antonios Nuthouse with my brothers since I was a little kid and I absolutely adored Toni the owner RIP, but recently Ive noticed the place really going down hill for the last few years due to aweful management . Being a former owner of one of the most popular restaurants in Hon Kong called the Godown I would never allow our managment to drink while on duty or they would be fired immediately. Its a huge liability and a lawsuit waiting to happen. The manager at the Nuthouse was always drinking her lemonade with vodka and one couldnt help notice her intoxication. I recently read an article that they received an $80,000 Covid loan in late June and here we are in August and the place is closing due to poor management. I will definitely miss the old days there with Toni he was a great man but Im sure he would roll over in his grave if he saw how the place was being run. I use to bring in tons of gourmet food for Football Sundays and fill up 3 tables of food and we would all watch the games and everyone was so greatful and would buy me a drink. I have a lot of great memories in there with my brothers and Toni he surely was the best. But the manager now is truly a nightmare and I knew the place wouldnt last with her running it into the ground . RIP Toni I also spoke to Mark Zuckerberg who now lives in my old neighborhood that I grew in, and told him it might not be such a bad idea to take it over and bring in new bartenders to help clean the place up and hire a sober manager one that doesnt drink on the job . He rolled his eyes and said she already took the place down to the ground and it would cost way to much money to.bring it back and sometimes its good to let sleeping dogs sleep and I have to agree with him . So I guess its time to move on . Good bye to the Nuthouse and good riddance Kelly Gorman
Servers were great and the cornmeal breaded catfish tacos were excellent! Chicken tacos were a bit dry though. Good beer and nice size outdoor space for COVID distancing. 4.5 stars?
If booze, simple dishes, and fun without caring about the cleanliness of the place is what you are looking for, then this local dive is going to do it for ya... complimentary peanuts, and you get to throw the shells to the floors (which are not swept very often). I guess thats where The Nut House comes from???
FOREVER MY LOVE IN PALO ALTO!and how they’re adapting to COVID precautions is... INCREDIBLE! (esp since it’s got such a divey reputation)There’s plenty of space and they’re adamant about mask-wearing and have hand sanitizer abound. I must admit I hope they keep the outdoor setup/seating in the long run.I must also mention the FANTASTIC pop-up cuisine. Local, Darius Johnson, has created a delicious menu! I’d recommend the cauliflower or chicken mango habanero wings and the chicken quesadilla tacosif you’re thinking about grabbing some food and a drink — GET YOURSELF TO ANTONIOS NUT HOUSE!
Total dive bar but thats what was expected. Bartender was on top of it with awesome service but had no reluctance to tell you to F#@$ Off if you got out of line. Exactly what you expect when you walk in the door and see the peanut shells completely covering the floor. This place has my vote if a a local dive joint is your thing.
The bartender with the Mohawk kicked myself and five others out of the bar because I couldn’t remember the zip code on my ID. I was totally happy to verify any other information but he wouldn’t hear it. This dude seem thrilled to flex his authority and was pretty rude about it. I’m 25 and we were totally polite, even still he told the bouncer to not let us near the place.. like I get being cautious not to serve minors but he scanned my DL and it worked and I explained to him that I got it 5 years ago that I forgot the zip code to the address.
Local Stanford/pa/techie dive bar. Juke box, pool tables, free peanuts (shells on the floor). Interesting ceiling tiles decorated by customers. Will check IDs for each beer glass when ordering pitchers. If youre looking for a dive bar, this place is
Cool place, great environment, they have pool tables, soccer table, coin operated shooting games and car racing . the wings were really good different type of sauces bluecheese was excellent. Also you can get table games. The mechanic gorilla is a legend but I dont think it is operational any more.
This is the last dive bar in Palo Alto, CA! I love this place, even when its crowded, because so many interesting people pass through here. They have a free peanuts dispenser and there is a wonderful Mexican restaurant attached to it (try their enchiladas). They have a small, private parking lot that can only be accessed by traveling eastbound (away from El Camino Real-CA route 82) on California Avenue. Otherwise, there is street parking and a public lot across the street. The bartenders are no-nonsense, just the way it ought to be! SAVE THE NUTHOUSE IN PALO ALTO, CA! NO MORE SNOBS!
Great selection of Mexican food. Staffs were attentive and were very friendly. I liked the ambiance and their location is great.
People were fun and friendly! Kelly makes an incredible Lemon Drop! The little restaurant (which shares the space with Antonios) has the best Guacamole ever! All in all, a great place for cocktails and a bite!
Poor service at the bar, but a popular after-work destination for a decently priced beer. The best option is to get a pitcher at the bar right when you arrive to avoid the slow service, as well as the $10 minimum credit card fee. The pool tables need to be serviced as the cue ball often gets stuck after going in a pocket. Don’t expect the employees to offer a minute of their time to assist you. There can be some jerks that hog the tables for too long, but what can you expect from a dive bar like this. Also recommend avoiding wearing a nice pair of shoes as they will get dirty from the peanut shells littered across the floor. I wonder when the last time they cleaned up those shells was...
Just couldnt resist being the 1,000th person to review this place, as a dive bar this is exactly what you are after, pitches of beer are great and the nuts are super too! Will absolutely be back,
Great atmosphere. Horrible bartender. Fire the guy with a mohawk. Cant even suggest a drink, never smiles & accuses me of being under 21 every time, when Ive been coming for a year & am 30. If you dont like your job, go somewhere else so people can have fun instead of looking at your sad face
Nice little bar with good drink prices and a taqueria. Theres a jukebox to play your favourite tracks. Pool, foosball, and arcade games will test your hand-eye coordination. Bartenders prepare beverages from a rotating selection of taps, or a respectable spirit collection. All at a reasonable price.
Everybody has been talking about this dive bar since moving to Palo Alto. We did experience it yesterday and I can say that it is definitely a dive bar. The atmosphere was great. Tons of people. A wide variety of drinks and the food was eh. I would go back to hang and have a couple of drinks and move on to another bar or restaurant.
Nice bar if you are looking for a very very informal place for a drink. Highlights are the unlimited nuts you can eat and the Mexican restaurant inside.Lowlights: bartenders are not particularly kind and the place doesnt look super clean nor (sometimes) particularly well smelling.
Decent as far as dives go. Go if you like peanuts.
Antonios Nut House is a well-established bar in the Palo Alto on California Avenue the greens are very reasonable compared to some of the places in Maine Downtown Palo Alto there is also a restaurant within the bar called Azteca which has pretty good Mexican food and fast friendly service. The bar itself is riddled with humorous signs and bar games such as pool tables and darts and other games Antonios Nut House is a favorite for locals and Stanford students alike.
You know what youre getting when you come here and it delivers in that promise. Fun, low key, casual place. Ive had just the right amount of fun every time Ive been here.
New bay la soul kitchen is off the hook!! Food is on point!
Variety of good beer and tasty Mexican food for reasonable money
Hot and fresh tacos, the pastor is just covered in chili powder, nothing special, somewhat disappointing. It tastes like chorizo with more texture. Theres a bar inside and strange graffiti style ceiling art. Price is OK, a little expensive for what it is. Nearby places are better. The horchata is from a pre made jug from the store. Chips and salsa are extra.
Sort of a dive bar, but so good! The mexican food is great, and they always have cider on tap (in addition to beer if you prefer that instead). The music is so eclectic, and the tvs are usually playing a sporting event. Beware if you have a nut allergy because, as the name suggests, there are nuts for sale and shells covering the floor!
The Nut House is the kind of divey bar that you arent afraid to drink at. They have food service to boot. I always regret not being able to stop by after work more frequently with coworkers. Its an awesome place to socialize and unwind at after work.
A classic hangout. Dive-y in a good way. Decent beer selection.
Antonios not house is kind of like a hole in the wall except thats not a hole in the wall with three pool tables in the Mexican taco place in the same building. Granted two separate businesses, a good a business idea but just kind of a weird feeling for a hole in the wall. I enjoy going there to play pool and drink good beer have a nice shot and eat some spicy tacos.
Interesting place. Dive bar, but really good food and awesome beer selection. Friendly folks and good times. Free nuts. Has pool tables.
It is a great bar with an excellent atmosphere and prices, but three times I have felt a bad deal with the bartender who attend at night, especially the one with a punk hairstyle, I really love the place, but I do not think I will come back. I am once again exposed to a bad treatment or lack of respect again. The boy simply ignores you, on another occasion he told a friend that if he did not leave a tip he could not attend to it well and finally, and what left me in shock: I went with a friend and she joking with me accidentally hit her glass with the table, I do not know what the boy thought because our level of English is regular, but he told us that they will not take care of us anymore by pressing it. I just asked for my account and I do not think Ill come back. All these times that I have had problems has been when I go with Mexican friends, I came to think that maybe it is xenophobia for that. Anyway, its my favorite bar but that guy has a bad vibes, really really bad.
Great place for a quick drink. I just arrived in the area and that was the first place I visited. Fantastic enchiladas±
I’m often told I belong in the ut house. I’m right at home here.
The bartenders here are awesome! Aaron is mean.
Smelly bar. I dont think theyve cleaned the floor in years. Somethings rotting, literally. Cheap drinks though and boardgames on Saturday night
Not a bad spot to stop and grab a drink... if you can bear the smell of vomit that permeats through this place.
This bar is probably older than you are, and has almost certainly been in the Bay longer than you. Give your elder the respect its due.Food is good, beer is good, cocktails are solid. Remember, the peanut shells go on the floor, not the bar.
Cocktails here are meh but food is very delicious
Great hole in the wall spot. They dont serve weak drinks, even the ones that are on special.
Really like this place. So if youre a normal, non-@sshole type, please go here!
Friendly neighborhood dive in the heart of Palo Alto. How does this continue to exist? I’m not complaining! Good burritos too. Great lunch spot.
Super friendly staff, reasonably priced drinks (full bar) and great food at great price. I had a vegetarian burrito that was big and tasty, and my friend had a burger and he said it was very good. Ill be back!
Had A Good Time, The Drinks Werent Too Pricey And Had Plenty Fun Playing Pool. Maybe It Was A Bad Night, But Bathroom Stunk And The Floor Was Wet Like Something Overflowed. Overall Great Place Outside Of The Bathroom.
This place has it all - peanut shells everywhere, slippery bathroom floors, no specials, dudes with mullets who look ready to throw down at the slightest side-eye, and even a Mexican restaurant built into the other side of the bar. They went above and beyond to garnish this top their establishment and a dive bar, and I bet theyve fooled a lot of untrained eyes. Must see!
Very romantic spot. You can find some privacy in the corner of the bar ;)
Great place to hang out with friends..
I had only had drinks here before, but the food is great too!
Great place. Great prices.
Fun atmosphere and Saturday board game night is a blast
Always loved coming here. Came in today and was pleasantly surprised at how rude the bartender was to myself and husband.
Antonio’s is a collaboration between a Mexican restaurant and a bar/pub: the two businesses operate two opposite sides of the dining area. The Mexican food is really good and not expensive. The bar has a good selection of beers and cocktails. There is a lively atmosphere and many entertainments: a juke box, pool tables, table football, arcades, abundance of nuts.
Could have been a great night - but all three of the bartenders were smug, rude, and incredibly bad at making people feel welcome.
Quaint watering hole with lots of TVS and great drinks.
Restaurant accepts AMEX. Bar doesnt. Relaxed atmosphere, pretty chill.
Cool vibe. Kind of grungy but they have board games and pool tables. Great place to go with friends. The bartenders aren’t super friendly.
This is a dive bar, and proud of it. The atmosphere is what you would expect from the outside and the food is good. I dont drink, so I cant speak to the quality of the alcohol, but its a cool place to hang out.
Its a dive bar at its finest. If youre after anything else then dont go. The prices are the cheapest youll find in the bay area let alone Palo Alto, literally half the price of other places. Its dingy, its dirty and thats why its great. Respect the barstaff and the fact the prices are low and tio generously.
Excellent old school divey bar with decent food and inexpensive drinks. Also a short walk from California Avenue Caltrain.
Awesome place to hang out with friends or watch a game. The free peanuts are great. Bar tenders are angry and rude as hell, but thats kinda the thing.
Awesome bar with yummy taqueria
Great atmosphere, and welcomed from out of Town.
The Saturday night bartender decided to take my peanuts and throw them all over me claiming I had spilled nuts on him, which I absolutely had on. Trash. Avoid. If the owner ever reads this and similar reviews about the bartender they will notice a pattern. End that guys misery.
I like their peanuts BUT the ID check personnel was extremely rude to my friend (3/11). We walked right into the Nut House; no one checked our IDs and we told our friend who does not drink not to worry about IDs. Guess what, he was blocked outside in cold and waited for a long time just to give a hug. The guard was so rude and defensive when I wanted to know more about their policy since no one checked our IDs. “Is it only after 10pm?” He gave me no clear answers. Checking IDs is common, but should they make it clear to the customers?
Great little dive bar. My coworkers brought me here after a corporate event and we had a blast. Good prices, good drinks. I didnt order so I have no idea what the service is like (four stars instead of five) and I have no idea if they serve food. I saw pool tables and of course its loud. They were crazy busy when I was there so we didnt leave our table until it was time to go. Ill definitely go back next time in town again.
Best dive bar in Northern Cal, great inexpensive drinks, pool tables, all you can eat peanuts, and a Taqueria there as well. RIP Antonio, you did us right.
Generations in my family have loved going here and so do I. There are reasonably priced pitchers of good beer, fun bar games, and all-you-can-shell peanuts. Im very sad the owner, Tony Montooth, passed away this year and would love to see business continue to thrive at this age-old, classic, local, Palo Alto establishment. It is very convenient there is quality Mexican food sold here as well! This place is nuts!!
The nut house is a long term fixture of the neighborhood. It has recently become popular with a distinctly tech crowd. The food is good and the bar has enough room to form distinct areas. Some are quiet and others are busy.
I attended single startup community meetup at Antonios and I had great time! Nice burger and fries, pool, arcade games and most importantly lot of inspiring people! Highly recommended!
Service at the bar was a little show, but it was a nice break that was needed. Much more approachable than other Palo Alto venues.
Awesome atmosphere and awesome peanuts!
Excellent bar. Crowded, dirty, loud, but has the charm of a college pub. Found a great beer selection and price here.
Great food, nice service.
Always a fun place to visit
Popular local pub, good selection of beers. Definitely a locals establishment.
Kinda skanky girls there. Ok dive bar.
Great place for a beer and a game of pool.
Alot of very nerdy people but the place is huge. Just not my type of crowd. But it is a good place to start your night with drinks
Great atmosphere and cold beer
No frills bar. Cheap drinks considering the location. If you are going to drink beer avoid the pitchers as the beer comes out flat. I bet the lines are dirty or something, get bottled beer instead.
Peanuts everywhere. Amazing art ceiling. Murderers & college students
Trendy place for beer and peanuts. Do not step inside if you dont like messy!
The best prices, anywhere. Fun people, pool tables, a gorilla in a monkey suit gaurding a barrel of peanuts.
Like the place but the bar staff is not very friendly
Super cheap, nice bar, you can play your own music, get the app!
Dirty & it stinks quite bad. Sorry, absoluty dont recomend this place
This is a neighbourhood dive. Popular because they hand out free peanuts. They also have Mexican food which is not too bad. The atmosphere is good with a variety of people.
Free peanuts, just drop the shells on the floor.
Antonios is the only enjoyable dive bar in Palo Alto. If youre sick of the bougie gastropubs and sterile wine bars on University and elsewhere on Cal Ave, this peanut shell-strewn hole-in-the-wall will revive you with a healthy dose of Actual Personality. Sip on a reasonably priced beer and admire the colorfully painted ceiling tiles, or play a dimly-lit game of pool. Its still Palo Alto, so most of the clientele are tech workers or students, but it at least feels like a place that doesnt exclusively cater to Tesla-owning VCs. The space is shared with a Mexican food counter that serves cheap, oily takes on Mexican-American staples. The pairing couldnt be better.
Pretty cool place with nut shells all over the floor Ample parking behind
Loud, plenty of space for pool or just hanging out. Floors are covered with point shells, but who cares.
Cheap beer, but VERY rude staff (most rude I’ve ever experienced in the us)
I went last Saturday with my friend and the bartender ( the long hairs bearded guy ) was so rude, pompous, and no greetings.. etc and asking tip BEFORE served us and made a short speech about tips... . Never experienced anything like that, and top of that he said this front of the other customer ------ id give zero star if possible. I never go back.
Fun spot with cool free peanuts setup. Have to go grab the peanuts from the big gorilla. Good pitcher deals and good divey spot in a cool area of downtown Palo Alto. Really the only good option for cheap beer in that area
Appreciate a good dive, especially in Palo Alto!
The nuts? Stellar. The vibe? Youthful and passionate. Great place for first dates. Try the nuts, kinda tbh.
Affordable drinks, finally. And good ambience. Dont feed the gorllla
