Camp site is awesome and trails are great. Just keep an eye out for cyclists!

This was part of a longer hike spanning Montebello Preserve (which includes Black Mountain) and Russian ridge. Gorgeous views with both shaded woody areas and vast open spaces with excellent views of hills as well as entire Bay Area. Difficulty is moderate with some elevation. Markings are very clear and path is clean and well visible.

Very interesting place. Easy access from city but not crowded with hikers. Saw many black tailed deer . Interesting vegetation varieties. Also saw a tarantula hawk ( wasp) immobilizing a tarantula and pulling it away to her nest

Start by hiking up relatively steep slope of the Rhus Ridge trail then split to the Black Mountain trail which is mostly flat until the final portion of steep climb up. Rewarding views at the top. Trails are well kept and filled with beautiful trees and shrubs. The only downside is the parking which is a very small lot. Parking is also available at the Foothill College, add 1 more mile to the hike. No toiletries so plan ahead.

Want to get away from the crowds? This is the place. The trailhead on Rhus Ridge Road is tiny and fills up fast in the early morning. Best bet is to park a mile away on weekends at Foothill College but don’t forget to buy a $3 all-day parking pass, yes, you’ll need it on weekends too.

I got hurt hiking up here. It was my fault. Anyways, the view is nice and the backdrop provides better scenery than being in the city all day long. Ate at a picnic here and couldnt be happier with friends and family. The morning is great yet at night is spooky!

Nice hike from Rhusridge trailhead (3h round trip). Not so crowded as Mission Peak and the views are good from near the summit.

Great hike that is about 4 miles to the summit. The last half mile is the most difficult since the trail turns into a service road and the steepness of the trial increase drastically. However, it was very enjoyable and the view was well worth it.

Great hike from Rancho Open reserve parking. Its approx 6 miles one way. Its long and steep in some places so its better to be in good shape and bring plenty of water and food.

Nice hike from page Mill road, about 4-5 miles back and forth. Stunning views over the bay, all the way from Gilroy to SF. Nice in winter, probably too sunny in summer.

Usually colder and windier at the top than down below. Bring a jacket during non-summer months.

Great destination for a day hike from the Monte Bello Open Space Parking lot, especially in the Spring when the hills are green and the wildflowers are out. Good 360 degree views of Stanford, the Bay,... and in the distance, Mt. Diablo, San Bruno Mtn., Mt. Tam, and the ocean. If youre hiking, watch out for cyclist careening downhill on the trails. Non-potable water at the nearby campground; make sure you drink it through your Lifestraw.
