We had a great time. Peter is quite the character.
That Elliott guy was cute! Would go again!
This place is AWESOME. I swung by w/a bow that had nothing setup yet to see if they had the parts needed for the job. Rather than sell me the parts and watch me wallow in ignorance the owner ensured everything was set up perfectly and gave great instruction on how best to start the sport. They let me borrow some arrows and set me up on the range at a distance that was comfortable for a beginner. Then the shooting began. I must say Ive been to a couple other ranges that were completely haphazardly run where you really had to make sure you werent getting into trouble w/no one else watching out, definitely not the case here. Every archer was completely professional all the while being extremely friendly and helpful. While I was on the range, the owner talked w/my dad and told him about the archery community and how it was a akin to a small family. All in all we had a great experience and when I travel back to the Bay Area Im definitely swinging by here again!
This is one of those special places that are unique and you cant find replicated. The atmosphere is informal and relaxed. The location is just a warehouse. I remembered a few basics from high school, he quickly showed me the parts I forgot and then just let us practice. His wisdom was well rehearsed, he probably has been teaching for a while.I liked his humor.
The owner is so great, the place is full of friendly people and I will definitely come back
Great experience; the vibe at this place is really relaxed and friendly, and Peter is one of the rare few that cares more about the actual archery than about tangential things. Dont let the barebones aesthetic scare you off; this is a great place to learn and practice shooting. Its the hole-in-the-wall hidden gem of archery, and I doubt youll find better prices / value at any other ranges around this area. The negative reviews about rude comments dont do this place justice. Being openminded and withholding judgement will help you have a great time at this range and in life generally. As a society, maybe weve become too sensitive or quick to judge other people, or expect everyone to don permanent masks appropriate to their roles of customer service, professionalism, or whatever other box weve packed them in. Live and let live. Appreciate other people for who they are in their entirety. Everyone has their quirks and idiosyncrasies, and thats fine. Youre coming here to shoot archery; go out there and have fun, and if someone says something that bothers you, nicely tell them upfront in person, and consider the interaction in its entirety before you make a judgement. Despite disagreeing with some things Peter said, I found him to be overall a genuine, caring person who puts a lot of his time and effort into helping others learn the art / sport that he is passionate about. I will definitely be returning, and if youre still reading then I recommend you try it as well (:
The staff here are fun, friendly as well as incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. They make learning archery fun and exciting. They have plenty of equipment that you can use and should you decide to get your own gear, they are generous with advice on what and where you can buy what you need. Fantastic place!
Excellent interactions with Mike and Jeff. My family is new to archery and they were very patient and great with the kids. Also, helped me with proper set-up of a bow I purchased on Amazon. I would give it 5 stars but as others noted the owner Peter is rough around the edges and the place could be cleaner and better organized.
What was meant to be a casual afternoon with the team ended up being one that was more sour. It was hard to focus as the instructor was perhaps unable to handle a group our size (12) alone, and kept distracting with distasteful comments that he tried to disguise as humour. The latter part of the session was more enjoyable as a few other folks joined to assist the main instructor and there were fewer people the owner had to support all by himself.
Peter loves his work and it shows. He provides a comfortable and relaxed learning space with fair prices and quality instruction. If you are looking for a fancy shmancy, apple store looking place to shoot silver plated arrows at the local peasants this is not your place. It is run by a man with a passion for the sport who welcomes all those who share in that passion.
As Peter and David say, they have a terrible business motto: they extended a one hour lesson to two hours, and when we offered extra money, they turned us down.As much of a problematic child I am: right-handed with left eye dominance, hypermobility, standing in front of the board but arrows somehow go into the board at an angle, and have an extra rounded face that doesnt work with their normal teaching styles. They have taught me way more than the lesson originally does, and they seem very passionate about their jobs and this sport. Glad to have learned archery from them, but also glad to hear how specially unique of a body structure I have.
Very fun place to visit. The instructor is funny and very personable. Would come here again anytime.
A great, welcoming atmosphere, perfect for first timers (like myself). The range is run by a very chill guy with a great sense of humor. His instruction is great, and the people there tend to be very knowledgeable. There are a few more seasoned shooters there, and while they will give you crap for doing some things wrong, its all in good fun and never feels hostile. They strike a rare balance between disciplining you, but still being totally chill.
Great owners! Knowledgeable.Went with some friends who never shot a bow in their life and they were given wonderful assistance to improve their style while theyre starting!
Coming over to this place was amazing! My friend took me and my brother there....and Peter has a great sense of humor. I couldnt hold my bow steady because I was laughing so much! Thanks, Peter for teaching me and my brother about archery and for having a great sense of humor. Oh, and thanks for the cans....we used all of them. :P
Great place to get in to archery! Peter is hilarious and coach Mike showed me the ropes so I didnt hurt myself or anyone else! Im hooked on archery! Lets go hunting!
I came here after a lesson I took another place to try to improve. It is a great place for beginners and the range is also frequented by more pro shooters. Peter, the owner, is a great guy and will be fair and direct with you, always with a pinch of humor and jokes.I saw review of people complaining about some remarks the owner made, please take everything to the second degree. If he says the lesson will cost you 1000$ or you hear him telling someone else tell them to go away, it is a joke guys! Maybe Not everyone will like the humor but I love it, it is part of the experience here. He is very pro, gives great advise and will make sure its range is safe. The place can be hard to find as it is basically a open hangar with no sign.
Fantastic range, awesome instructors, and a welcome lack of the type of people who voted 1 star. Oh, and if youre worried you wont be able to notice a large indoor archery hangar with the shutter wide open and people with bows going in and out, then perhaps you should choose something other than marksmanship.
The man running the range was very friendly and made us all feel very welcome. From what I can see, he consistently hosts competition level players and is always extremely accommodating to beginners as well. The instructor is very fair, funny and direct. I remember an incident when he was at the 5 yard line helping us getting things setup up when a couple of people who appeared to be seasoned archers barged in, with total disregard to the class in session, demanded information about the range. Needless to say he was really agitated and completely stood up for the people in class. To summarize, youll have a lot of fun if you enjoy the sport and respect fellow archers. The place has no signs, so make sure you remember the exact street address.
My friend and I went there around 3 pm, the man there was so rude, I asked him is there any discount, he saw my Google badge and said, why discont? I will charge Google employee more because they are rich. I cannot imagine he could say like that, such a rude merchant!
A friendly bare bones place to shoot, owner can be rather direct but with a sense of humor, not for the faint at heart. Highly recommended
I went to Palomo Archery on a Saturday night with a friend having no prior experience. I had tried calling ahead to schedule an appointment, but never heard back. I left two voicemails and sent an e-mail but never heard back. Se we showed up around 7 PM Saturday night. Elliot greated us. He was working with someone. We told him we had never shot before and he said we had to have a lesson first, and if we came back around 8 he could give us a lesson. So we went to a nearby bar and came back at 8.The lesson was great! Elliot was very patient, kind, and friendly. And a great teacher!! I really felt like I knew what I was doing by the end of the lesson. And it was a lot of fun. I definitely recommend this place. To be honest, I researched the place before coming and the *interesting* reviews about Peter just made me want to go more. Im from the East Coast, and I like people with an off-color sense of humor. We met Peter on our way out. He says he tries not to teach as much now because of the bad reviews (which to me sounded like people misinterpreting things he said - the sort of assume viciousness rather than giving the benefit of the doubt kind of people). But he seemed extremely nice! Not at all politically incorrect or offensive when we met him. Very funny and social. Im sure hed be a very fun and entertaining teacher. One thing to know before coming here! You have to pay by cash or check!!!!! I think our beginner lessons were $35 each. And remember to wear closed-toe shoes!
Awesome place with great people! If Peter rubs you the wrong way youre taking him too seriously.
It was great and the owner was lots of fun! Thank you Peter!
Peter is a very friendly host once you get used to his humor :)Our team had a great time and he was kind enough to let us shoot with his 75th anniversary Hoyt compound, which we tried not to break.
Peter Palomo!!! He is the most amazing guy with a bow and arrow walking on this planet!
Great for team building or just a fun afternoon
Good place for archery
Nice place for fun with a group of friends
Ok
Peter is the best! :D
Went during open hours but it was closed. Is this place ever open?
Amazing place and amazing experience!
The owner is very kind
Awesome!
