We were so happy that the tram was open. They only allow 25% capacity but that makes the experience so much more enjoyable. Youre not packed into the tram and you have plenty of space to take pictures and move around. We were lucky there was snow at the top of the mountain which made the scenery so beautiful.

Some steep walking on rough terrain so wear appropriate shoes. Also dress for cool mountain weather including snow on the ground in places.

From the beautifull deserts to the beautifull mountains in minutes, the tram car is very stable and state of the art. My girlfriend it terrified of heights but enjoyed the car ride and its as amazing views. We loved hiking on the tram to Idyllwild trail. yes its isas an AMAZING fun way to spend the day either hiking at the top of the mountain easily marked trail loops or just a ride and dine. Tramway is still open even ffg during covid 19 the are only loading 12 people per cart when each cart holds 80 people. I was very omfortable going up th to see the first snow fall this year. on a sunny day in the Palm Springs Desert you can also enjoy the fresh air and mountain amosphere with an amazing tram ride experience. as the yram car slowly rotates do you can enjoy the views of everything to see the mountains, desert landscape, open skies.

Wow. The most amazing views ever. Breathtaking from the ride to the view from the very top. The tram slowly rotates so you can get a nice view of all angles. The ride is slow and smooth (you are standing on tram). There a couple restaurants at the top....one a quick option while the other a nicer sit down meal. I had the quick service pizza and it was hands down the best pizza Ive had in a long time. The crust was perfect. Lots of indoor seating to eat in the A/C. The temps while waiting for the tram were about 110, however the top of the mountains was in the 70s (we didnt want to come back down). They have a very nice gift shop with unique items. The view from the top is beautiful. You can also view the fault line from here. We took a day out of our vacation to visit here and although it was a good 4 hr round trip out of our way, it was more than worth it. Truly a once in a lifetime experience.

The gondola ride was so beautiful! The restaurant at the top was a great way to enjoy the view from the top. Plus the food was delicious and the service was great. It was spendy though. Dinner for 4 plus tip was around $325. There is a cafeteria at the tram station too which is MUCH less expensive. By the time we were done eating it was dark. The tram ride down gave us a great view of the valleys city lights. Really lovely. On the valley floor we didnt need a coat (February 10), but at 8,000 feet at the top of the tramway it was 25 degrees and snowing. Dress accordingly.

I have an annual pass! I love to go whenever I can! Please be aware that the weekend however are very congested to get to the top and have busy hiking trails throughout the day. If you stay close to the lodge there is fun boulder you can climb. If youre going to hike, it mostly forest but the ranger station has so much valuable information and would love to talk you. Most trails are very clear and straight forward. I feel the trail is pretty moderate, however the first few times I had to stop a lot to catch my breath. Not sure if it was because of the elevation or my fitness level They also have a lodge with food and a bar. TBH havent had the food but it said to be like cafeteria style and the restaurant is just okay. Ive only ever got a cocktail or twice there! Has an amazing out look of the mountain and bottom if you take your drink outside! Either way it is a great place to even go just to cool down and have a picnic, adventure or just relax!

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway—the world’s largest rotating tram car—travels over two-and-one-half miles along the breathtaking cliffs of Chino Canyon, transporting riders to the pristine wilderness of the Mt. San Jacinto State Park. During your approximately ten-minute journey, tram cars rotate slowly, offering picturesque and spectacular vistas of the valley floor below. Once you reach the Mountain Station—elevation 8,516 feet—enjoy two restaurants, observation decks, natural history museum, two documentary theaters, gift shop and over 50 miles of hiking trails. All the staff are great and very helpful, parking is very easy, such an amazing place! a must visit when in Palm Springs, CA

Awesome tramway. One of the best places to visit in the world. In winter time around Christmas, it does tend to get over crowded. So, its recommended that you arrive at the parking lot by 8 am to have a chance of making it to the top in decent time. The views at the top are mind blowing, especially in the winter if it snows a lot. One can go for a long hike even or just hang out at the top and enjoy a great meal at the restaurant. In the summer, there is at least 50* change in temperature at the valley vs at the top. That was the main reason for setting up the tram way to allow people to escape the harsh summers of Palm Springs.

It is amazing anytime but winter is especially amazing. It had been years since we visited and I remembered parking near the tram stop. That has all changed. Please plan for parking and shuttle times. I suggest arriving at the parking spot 45 minutes prior to your tram ticket time. We missed our tram and our dinner reservations. We were able to get new tickets togo up, but had to wait 1.5 hours for the next available car. We ate appetizers in the bar at the top and were not disappointed.

A must-do while youre in Palm Springs! Theres a completely different world on top of the mountains (plus, bonus, its considerably cooler!) Make sure you bring water, wear appropriate shoes (I saw so many people in flip flops slip on rocks and sand!) and wear sunscreen!Parking costs $8 and there is a bus to take you up to the main tram station. We had to wait about 8 minutes for the bus in the hot sun. It was early August when we went and still quite busy with a lot of tourists.Once we got to the lower tram station, we got our tickets and had to wait about an hour for our turn on the tram. Theres a small museum, cafeteria, patio seating and a little viewpoint/hike that is shaded with picnic tables which was a nice place to wait. The tram itself is cool! It fits a lot of people and the floor rotates as it ascends the mountain over ten minutes, so you get to see the view from all 360°.Once at the top, there are a couple food options and then a switchback trail that leads down to the forest floor. Just remember, if you go down that hill, you have to be able to come back up! There are a variety of hiking options in the area ranging from a 0.75 mile nature walk to a 12 mile hike. There is over overnight walk-in camping. The area is really neat with big trees and rocks, amazing views and sanded trails. This was a part of Palm Springs I didnt know existed and a completely different habitat than the desert. Apparently sometimes in the winter, theres even snow!Once youre done, trams run back down every ten minutes and a bus will take you back to your parking spot. :)

Out of all the years I have lived in the valley, I have never been here and would recommend everyone to at least go there once in their life. It was great to be in the fresh snow. My parents and I were visiting Palm Springs over Thanksgiving and my mom saw a brochure for this. So we had to go.They had about 2 feet of snow at the mountain top, and the temperature was a brisk 28 degrees Fahrenheit. But, boy, was it worth it! You can see from the pictures but the views were breathtaking. If you decide to come here, I recommend you book an online ticket with a time, if you can, or come super early. They didnt do reservations for the holiday weekend so we tried to get here shortly after they opened (8:20am). We still had to wait for over an hour to get on a tram car.The tram trip itself is about 10min up (and the same down). You can spend however long at the top but, keep in mind, more people will be coming down later in the day so you have to wait longer for a return tram car.Tickets are $27/person for the round trip ride. Parking is an additional $8. They do have busses that take you from the various parking lots to the tram station. Or you can hike it up but keep in mind its pretty steep and they have no sidewalks so you basically have to walk on the road where the cars go.Definitely a worthwhile experience. If we decide to come again, I will try to avoid the holidays

The views are great but the process needs an adjustment. You drive two miles up the road before you have to pay for parking. Then park and ride the shuttle up so you can buy tickets. If you are here during the holidays you will end up with at least a 3 or 4 hour wait before you can take the tram up.Employees aren’t the friendliest especially an older gentleman who runs the photo booth. This was truly an Amazing Experience! The rotating aerial tram is an engineering marvel and the views are spectacular! This was definitely a day to remember. The tram starts at about 2,000 feet and within 11 minutes it takes you up to over 8,000 feet. The weather is normally 30 degrees cooler at the top so be prepared. You might want to plan to spend an entire day at the peak because there is a lot to do. There are over 50 miles of hiking trails. They have a very pleasant 5 mile loop that most people can do quite easily. There are 2 movie theatres with documentary films showing. There is a museum and gift shop. There is a fancy restaurant, a casual restaurant and a cocktail lounge. You could make it a nice date and take the tram up in the late afternoon, watch the sunset on the mountain, have a romantic dinner and then enjoy the city night lights as you take the tram down in the dark. They have handicap parking and elevators, but it is still a lot of walking. The tramway can get crowded depending on the time of day you go. If youre claustrophobic this is not for you. You stand on a slow rotating floor of the tram as it takes you up, every time it passes a tower it sways quickly as it passes. A few kids including mine were afraid of that part. Strollers are allowed ank kids can remain in them on the tram. There are 2 restaurants to eat at, or you can take your own food. Once at the top its a corkscrew path down to the trails. However we decided to risk it and went without reserving a time. It was a short 40 minute wait from the main gate to the tram! It was 8 dollars for parking, and we took a bus to take us from the lot to the main building. Lots of stairs to get to the main door but they have an elevator available as well. Tickets were reasonable for the tram $66 for 2 adults and one child. While waiting there is a small museum, cafeteria and gift shop. Trams depart every 10 mins. The ride up was a lot of fun. The floor rotates so you get a 360 view on the ride. Going up they play an audio track with information. Going down the rock out with some classic tunes. Up top they have patios with great views. The cafeteria up top is bigger and more variety. They also have a sit down restaurant and a bar. Overall a great experience!

A feat of engineering - you dont just get amazing views from a rotating carriage as you ascend about 1,700m, but you go from desert to forests (with snow if the right time of the year).Exiting the carriage and out the door you are at San Jacinto state park with walkways and nature so different than on the valley floor.Be careful as it seems to get busy fast with long waits especially when there is fresh snow for the sledders.

Riding the tram was a very thrilling experience. It offers incredible views of the surrounding area. The tram was way more stable than I thought it would be. At the top there is a restaurant, foodcourt and bar. From the top station there are a number of hiking trails of various intensity levels. I would not recommend the trails for people with mobility issues, as there is a steep ramp down from the station to the trails.

It was everything Id been told: breathtaking ascent (yes, scared me half to death)(but totally worth it!), amazing views, good food, friendly visitors and staffing. Gift shops were among best Ive ever seen. Many quality offerings. Entire mountains a well run operation.Hoping future trips to the top might have even more nature exhibition with education/information focus.

Awesome! The tram climbs 5000 feet into the mountains and rotates throughout the trip. There are restaurants and great views at the top. Discounts are on 365tickets and groupon. Must do!

WE LOVED IT! I have been in Palm Springs so many times, laying down by the pool and always looking at the San Jacinto mountains, always wondering how it was up there. Well, we just recently went and what a discovery! The tram experience is great but once you reach the peak you have a fantastic park at your disposal! It was snowing when we went so it was a truly magical experience. Wonderful place to bring kids as well, very family friendly. Miles to hike, plenty of animals around, and we even talked to the rangers and told us all about habitat up there. Wonderful!

Cost: $Rating : 5 starsTime: 2 - 6 hours depending on just a view or hikingGood for hiking or sight seeing but bring a warm jacket and hiking boots regardless in case.Tip: Go in the morning to avoid the tourists crowd that will come in around noon time. The Palm Springs Aerial tramway is an interesting cable car experience as the car itself will rotate itself 360 degree at least two rotations throughout the ascent and descent so that all passengers has a chance to view all the scenery of Mount San Jacinta all around you.At the top you can have a choice of just looking at the breathtaking view of Palm Springs from the top or do outdoor trail hiking of various difficulties and lengths. Bring a warm jacket and good hiking shoes in either case. There’s a nice cozy cafe at the lodge at the top.Worth the experience.

One of the several wonders of the world. A fun trip up to 8000 feet to the top of San Jacinto mountains feels like a 10 minute ride to somewhere North and far away from Palm Springs. Cant wait to do this again.

Easy trails, amazing views. Wasn’t as cold as weather channel was saying at the top, but definitely much cooler than at the bottom. There is food and water available, we brought our own. Get there early it does get crowded. Will definitely return

The bus from the parking to the tram was a bit of a wait. In comparison the wait to get on the tram seems less long because there are sites and shops to check out in the interim. The guide controlling the tram was great and made the journey fun. I suggest exploring the Forrest once on the other side. It does get a little colder and take care to check for bugs/ticks on departure.

Tramway ride was a lot more fun than expected. It usually runs about every 20 minutes and you have to go up at your exact scheduled time on your ticket, but you can stay up on the mountain-top station as long as you want, as long as theyre still open. The last team ride up is at 8pm. Its always 30 degrees cooler at the top, so bring a jacket.
