A special place! 23 years ago, we had wedding photos taken at the Castle. Now, my kids enjoy riding bikes to Castle & looking for painted rocks.
Couldnt go in, due to the current epidemic, but the grounds were beautiful and the castle very impressive. Such a classic feel, couples with a fairy tale ambiance.
Educational. But not really much else to do. Worth going at least once.
This was a really cool place. I had never heard of Mr. Curwood or his storys previous to visiting his castle. Was looking for something to do around our area and decided to check this out, man was I happy. There is not a ton to see in the castle but what you do see is filled with information on this guys life and the numerous books he wrote that influenced over 200 movies. Make sure you walk around the grounds and take the short walk to see where he actually lived as well. The art museum nextdoor is also worth a visit.
So much history in one little place. If you get the chance to go here...do. make sure you play around with the acoustics at the top of the tower too. So neat and surreal. Loved the movie in the lower level, and the set up was very nice and easy to follow. Would definitely go again.
Curwood Castle in Owosso waz built in 1922. Constructed in da style of an 18th-century French chateau, da estate overlookz da Shiawassee River. I proposed to my lovely wife here and we visit every year to see Denise and walk the castle.
Neat place. Recommend a stroll if near there.
We love it here! So peaceful
So cool!! Very informative, and the castle was so much fun to walk around in!!
Very fun and historic. Rather small, tho, and not much to see.
Their website says open daily, with the exception of Mondays, 1-5... We showed up today (Feb 2nd) to find a sign that says: closed months (I belive it was) December-March. So we just drove a long way to see the exterior and had a couple of upset kids that couldnt see the inside. Update your website!!!
Interesting history of James curwood Jr.
We turned down a wrong road to find this gem. The river accentuates the feeling of magic. The buildings complete each other. Sweet place for family pictures. Wrong turns can be blessings in disguise sometimes.
Interesting place. The host was late today so we were late getting in by about 20 minutes. Luckily we had time to wait. Interesting stories.
Its a nice little look around, not really something you should get your hopes up. Its good if you wanted to do something for a little get together.
Beautifully cared for and gives you a peek into what James Curwood looked at while working there. My children and I loved it.
First time Id ever been there, very calming and relaxed area definitely a Zen moment! LOL the lawn with manicured well the people in the art gallery very nice couldnt get into the curwood castle but looking at it and taking some pictures was still enjoyable. Definitely have to walk over the shaky Bridge kids really like it it moves. Enjoyed my time there
Great place to relax and take a leisurely strol. River, small falls, stone piller walking bridge all add to the things to see. Very old log homes and building are available to tour on some days. OH yes a Castle in the center of Michigan right along the river, Camelot maybe... You decide and make your own adventure stories.
I really like the reading nook in the turret staircase overlooking the river. Interesting place to visit and learn about one the countries bestselling authors of the day. The movie The Bear that came out in the latter 80’ was based on one of his novels breathing some life into the past.
This was incredible! Lots of cool things to see and neat to learn about the life of Mr. Curwood.
The sign said call between these hours and days. No one answered, so all we got was to see the outside
Really pretty we didnt get a chance to do a tour but even the grounds are beautiful and well kept
Its a very cool place that has so much history and is a great experience
Finally got to visit Curwood Castle. It was a little smaller than I had imagined but was happy to see it in such great condition. The attendant was knowledgeable and is happy to answer any questions about the property. There are displays of Curwoods books and a screen with one of his movies playing in the basement. Climb the stairs in the tower to see additional displays and a nice view of the property and the river below. There is also a log cabin to visit. We crossed the river using the footpath and stone tower bridge to visit a nearby icecream shop. Also along the path are an art gallery with sculptures and flowerbeds and another historical building to visit.
Nice place to stop by and learn some local history. Great castle, great view. Easy to get to.
We love to visit..tour the castle
More than a museum, its history on its own.
Curwood Castle is a construction which reminds me of castle in the fairytales. It was interesting to know the facts on the writer mr. Curwood and his childhood. We also got the opportunity to see some parts of his film The Bear . The building nextvto it represents arts crafts which were charming and nice, exhibited for show and sale. There are also courses on art, ceramic and cafts to apply to. Enjoyed it.
Neat looking Casle with awesome history and nice bridge

Love this place next to the river and it belongs to a writer Mr. Curwood

Beautifully restored and maintained writing studio built by James Oliver Curwood. Being in Curwood Castle took us back to experience an original pre-digital environment. He created his content on an early 1900s typewriter, and his writing desk is on display. This author was a leader in the pulp era of fiction writing when he created some of most captivating page turner novels of the early 20th century. Also, Curwoods leadership in the movie industry beginning in 1910 is detailed in an exhibition in the lower level of the castle. Curwood made over 200 movies to go along with his 33 novels. The castle is well worth a day trip to Owosso. Also, the downtown area (which is a couple of blocks away from the castle) has some unique shops and restaurants.
Fun and interesting. Pretty park to relax in.
Not as big as I thought it would be...but definitely sensed male energy in the sitting area of the fireplace, the bridge outside i loved
Beautiful slice of history
Surprising how many movies were made from Curwoods books.
Nice place to hang out by the river..
Hidden treasure for sure! Stopped by on a whim on our way north, and couldnt of been happier with our experience. The staff was knowledgable and even was able to tell us about other things to check out in owosso. The curwood castle is a living peice of history.
Never got to see the inside but its ok
Beautiful! And live music. Fun to take the kids here
Sweet! You got to visit this very unique place! One of a kind! Great history! Fun time!
