Pretty consistently a good time. For the full experience, you have to go on the walk-up hunt after the tower shoots, or your bird count could seem skewed. Some of the best hunting is the walk-up hunt after the tower hunt with the guides and their dogs. And, that is where for me, the fun begins!
First off would like to say this is a beautiful piece of property; however, our group was on a 300 bird hunt for 30 guys and the amount of birds actually let loose was in question. There was 20 stations total and i started at station 6 and ended at station 2 or station 1. For the sake of argument I’ll say we stopped at station 2. At each station they told us before we started that 10 birds would be released, so One trip around the blinds would equal 200 birds. Except like i said earlier i started at 6 and ended at 2, so we never even made it a full trip around. So never being at station 3,4,5 that would mean 30 less birds. So 200-30=170 . I also thought it might be possible that they might’ve thrown more then 10 birds a station, but seeing we did 17 stations that would mean they would have to throw out between 17-18 birds a station, which was not the case. Now on the ammo there was a mix up on both parties. Myself and others weren’t notified until a week before the shoot about what shells to use, but even then we weren’t told exactly what shells to use. I’ll clarify, we were told that lead was not allowed and steel shot only. Which i was okay with; however, i was not told a certain shot was only allowed. So me and others went out to find some high brass steel shot, we had a hard time finding that and when we did we could only find it in 4 and 5 shot. I even emailed the office to find out what shells to use and they simply said no lead only steel shot. I asked about the shot size and was never answered. Now i acknowledge that on there website after spending an hour or so i finnaly found a place that says you must only use 6 shot steel or smaller, but i found this after they told me i couldn’t use the loads I bought. Far as that goes i would recommend maybe adding a FAQ part or maybe a rules and regulations. The only other thing I thought was weird was 5 shot steel was floating around the trail with crooked foot stamped on the side of the casing. All in all i do not believe all 300 birds were released and the confusion on what shells could be used could’ve been avoided.
Went on a veterans hunt here, had a great time, friendly people, great food lots of birds to go around. Everyone left with 6 birds that were cleaned and bagged up for us. Will be back again.
I was not impressed 1st they made us by steel shot ammo saying that led wasnt allowed on the grounds because the DNR would fine them. and 2nd they only through 110 birds out of the tower when we paid for 300 birds. 10 birds per person there was 30 people. you be the judge
I was very disappointed in the hunt yesterday. We were told 300 birds would be released for a group of 30 hunters, but only about 150 birds were released. I brought home 5 birds for $250. We were promised each hunter would take home 10 birds. I tried to contact the club twice leaving my call back information, but have not yet been contacted.
Great clubhouse, large open terrain for walk ups and multiple towers. The dog handlers were very friendly too. Thanks!
Its a great place, full of friendly people!
