Today was my birthday and I have had so much fun with my girls at Deer Creek, we decided to golf today. We have been to this golf course a handful of times and I’ve always had a great experience. Today was above and beyond on so many levels. We noticed that the goose and deer poop was almost nonexistent this time and the staff was exceptional! The bartender was really attentive and energetic and even remembered us, the managers talked to us and numerous occasions and were genuine and willing to help in any way! We did hit one snag when one of their older marshals cursed at my friend who has only golfed a couple of times and is still learning when she had her cart in an area where it shouldn’t have been. She was really apologetic and explained to him that she was still learning and he was very rude to her. Thankfully it didn’t ruin our day and I had one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had in my life! Thank you Dear Creek! We will be back!
I did not want to write this, because this used to be one of my favorite courses 5-10 years ago, but it is in bad shape and needs a lot of work. Most bunkers were really bad with the exception of a few. Fairways were actually OK. Tee boxes below average, greens below average. Weeds growing all over in bunkers and landscaping. Parking lot is still atrocious. The staff at the bar were really nice, but the staff checking in weren’t particularly nice or helpful. Outdated carts.Until I hear that some money was put into fixing this course I don’t think I’ll be returning.
We had great day of golf!! Beautiful course! We could have all done without all of the deer and goose poop, but great day of fun. Kristy, at the Club House, was awesome. She was very attentive to everyone, and she had a bunch of customers to help. Food is good, service was AMAZING! Thanks, Kristy, for making our Girls’ Golf Day a blast. We will be back, and soon!
Course was in good shape. Fairways were great, greens were in good shape overall. The bunkers stood out as the only item that really needed help. The only reason I tend to stay away from this course is the rate of play. Always close to a 5+ hour round here with little to no help from the staff to address the issue. If you dont mind the longer round, dont hesitate to book a round here.
Deer Creek Golf Club has been an absolute dream as our wedding venue. We could not have asked for a better group of people to work with. They have been so accommodating and willing to answer all of our questions, big and small. We originally planned an indoor ceremony, but last minute change to an outdoor one. Deer Creek staff did not miss a beat and allowed us to execute our vision for a wedding day. Deer Creek is so highly recommended and you will not be disappointed!
This course has a great layout but the conditions are poor. I play here only once a year to see if anything has changed but for quite some time now the course has not been taken care of. Its too bad.
Ive played at this course for a long time, and Ive always enjoyed the layout along with how well it has been cared for. At some point, ownership stopped caring. We paid $60 for our round this past Sunday, and what a disappointment! The course was in MISERABLE shape! The bunkers were washed out, greens had tons of divots that had not been repaired, tees were super hairy in several places. I know there are drainage problems with the course historically, but its like they have just given up! It was a round I would have been happy to pay $25 for had I known what I was getting. Its close to my house, so I love the convenience, but wont be going back any time soon knowing this is the product for the price you pay. Id rather drive further and play somewhere better cared for.
This place is TERRIBLE!!! It’s in a beautiful area and the course could be great, but it’s just not. There are 5 million bunkers but half are either filled with hard dirt, a bunch of rocks and gravel, or a ton of grass. The only yard markers on most holes are on the cart path. Only a handful have the usual 150 yard marker so if you play from the fairway have fun guessing yardage. Some of the holes don’t even have a sign at the tee box. Fairways and greens are dinged up badly. I’m not a picky golfer. I play teetering and Royal Meadows, also Fred Arbanas and Shamrock, but at least take care of what you have. This course could be great, but it is a disaster. I only paid $29 and for that it’s not bad if they could at least get some yardage labeled in the fairway, but I would lose my mind if I paid their premium $60 rates in the am. Just avoid this course. It’s not worth your time. I won’t be back.
Great golf course but awful round. Lol fairways a little dry, does get to you mentally and leaves on few holes otherwise ok
This place needs substantial TLC.Overgrown weeds in places they never used to be.Bunkers that are falling apart. (I stepped into one where the liner had collapsed out of the side and the 8inch spikes were sticking straight up. Had I not reacted, that bad boy wouldve stuck through my foot.) Tee boxes are almost non existent. The only thing they appear to care for are the greens, and those were just ok. Ive played city courses in better shape. Its really sad because this course used to be prime and its in such a nice neighborhood of homes. I remember paying 75 dollars to play 18 back in the day and it was worth it. (Last week I paid like 35 dollars and it was not.)
Nice layout. Need some help with their sand traps.
It is difficult & expensive to maintain a golf course, but I saw little effort at Deer Creek. Back 9 is so dry as to be unplayable - any shot missing the fairway or green hits the granite-like rough and caroms into backyards, other fairways, and hazards. Target holes lacking yardage markers from the tee or fairway. Greens pocked with ball marks and cut inconsistently. Cups without anti-Covid contact spacers. Unplayable bunkers. Much better courses in better shape elsewhere.
Great course to challenge yourself. Be warned no driving range to warm up at
Great layout and fun to play with mix of holes that keep it interesting. Needs a health club and could be a destination course. Nice Marriott hotel adjacent to course for out of town guests. Perfect location in heart of Overland Park.
Had an extraordinary time playing in the ACA tournament today. Everyone is so friendly. Great time!
This course used to be in very good condition. Not anymore. We paid $55 to play a 5 1/2 round on a Sunday afternoon. Course conditions were terrible. Weeds growing everywhere. Trash from day before not picked up. Rough had not been mowed. Greens were slow and beat up. I could go on and on.Not much good to say about this course. Sad... and wont be back anytime soon.
We had such a fun day golfing today at Deer Creek! The course was fun and challenging, the food was amazing and Kristy took care of us afterwards at the bar! We will be back soon! Thank you!!
Beautiful grounds, but the patio has paint chipping and needs to be repainted. The steps leading up were rickety and needed repair. The clubhouse where the reception was held was 90° and hotter than it was outside. And the brought box fans! There were balloons left in the rafters from previous events that the staff didnt bother to get down. The wedding was beautiful, but the venue was a lot less than you would expect from an exclusive country club.
Course is super difficult, not for beginners. Recent weather and pandemic has taken a toll on the upkeep of the landscape as well. Bunkers filled with water & weeds, long waits during play, info on website not accurate, phone calls to clubhouse not answered. This gets a 3, as oppose to a 2, the manager regonized these issues and worked hard to accommodate us plus give a free round of golf. He also didnt seem to mind that we brought our own beer. Plus it was cheap for the area!
Sad staff there in the pro shop. They are known for making comments like were tired of the inmates running the asylum. Thats the two main people in the pro shop whining because someone asks to start on the back nine, or such. The course has been run into the ground, no where near worth the green fees. So, youd think the staff would at least treat people with some respect and courtesy. Dont waste your money.
My wife and I had a wedding there years ago and we had the most amazing time. It was beautiful, the food was great, and everything was perfect.
We were there for a wedding. Ceremony off first tee was nice. However, the parking lot and facilities were in need of much maintenance. The staff also left a power washer and large trash can in front of the stairs we used to access the reception area.
They stopped taking care of the course
Played Deer Creek several years ago and loved it. Now that Great Life has taken over, the course has gone down hill. Bunkers arent getting raked, bare spots everywhere, greens are terrible. Definitely no reason to upgrade membership to get this course. Sad, it was one of my favorites.
Deer Creek has had its worse moments. Bunkers/moguls whatever you want to call it, need sand or seeding. Greens have seen its worse days, slowly coming back. Yet, still fun to play.
The event service was good. Parking was more than adequate. The room in which the event was held was like a sauna the whole evening. It was a hot humid day and the room had not been cooled adequately prior to the event.
I am a novice golfer, this was the 5th club I’ve ever been to and I can say I was 100% disappointed in the course. It was a complete mess; mud, leaves and sloppy maintenance made this course impossible to play. The staff as well as other golfers were VERY rude and disrespectful, I was confronted and threatened by other golfers trying to play through, when I notified staff they told me I needed to respect the other golfers (with memberships) because this was there course and I’m a guest to them? Completely unacceptable for a PUBLIC golf course. I will NEVER golf here again. They also get credit for RUINING my birthday and the good times to be had by the 3 other people with me. It’s obvious the members of this course run the show so take that in consideration upon choosing this place to golf In the greater KC area.
Went to a wedding there .. From my perspective it was great... But dont know anything about the rental side of it..
I didnt go actually here. I was next door at the park. But it looked real nice from over the gate.
I belong to a group that meets here once a month for lunch and a meeting. The food is always pretty good. The staff is small but gets the job done. Giving 3 stars because this golf club house is in desperate need of at the very least a thorough cleaning, including light bulbs throughout (ladies rooms 2/3 need bulbs, meeting room needing around 5 ceiling lights that were burnt out or missing and the correct bulbs need to replace the ones that have the squiggly bulbs. This is just such a pretty club but needs money put into it or people will forget about it. Its really kind of sad
My daughter had her wedding at Deer Creek Golf Club, and it was the best day we could have imagined! Ashley and Rachel were absolute dolls, and working with them was a true delight! They were both there to answer any questions we had throughout the planning process and on the wedding day. They made sure everything was exactly how my daughter and her husband pictured it to be. We cannot say enough about how wonderful Ashley, Rachel, and the rest of the Deer Creek staff are. We will recommend Deer Creek Golf Club to everyone we know!
Course is getting better and we are about a week away from the greens coming together after errating. My one issue is the bunkers are going to hell. If your not a member its a steep price, if youre a member of Great life its a must play. Tips are way more fun than the blues.
Sand traps were in rough condition during the middle of summer. Not what I expected, but the rest of the course is in good shape and an awesome and fun layout!
I dont have enough good things to say about this place! I loved it from day one. I happened to go check it out while they had a special going on. So it was affordable! At the time we booked it, we met and set up our contract with Alex Sherf. She was amazing to work with! Ashley and Rachel were also awesome. All 3 of them at different points throughout my planning process answered every question I had. They helped me with every concern. They also made it possible for my husband and I to sample the breakfast options they have, since thats what we really wanted to serve at our wedding! I highly recommend this venue!
Great course to play tight fairways. Greens are nice bunkers can use some help. But I think they are going to start fixing them since Great Life has taken over. Play is fast wish they had a driving range they just have a net to hit into good if you want to warm up but cant tell how you are really hitting the ball.
Great course. Really enjoy the layout. Understand tbat there may be rough patches, but they are working hard to upgrade and maintain. Gps on carts are a plus, and would recommend this course for sure.
The course is fun but overpriced and the staff is rude.
I walk around this gem every day. Lots of beautiful homes, cute and abundant wildlife, great flora and fauna, and even some golfers.
Very steep green fee if you are not a Great Life member. Course layout is good but overall condition leaves much to be desired. Beat up tee boxes, many bunkers with no sand just dirt and the bunkers that have sand are a mess. Does not take much to have the bunkers manicured to improve the overall experience . Too many other nice courses to play in the area for a much lower cost
Muddy in the fairways...ok I guess given the rains. But greens were not in shape. Plus.. a $35 fee for half a cart.??!! Gimme a f@^×*ng break. Will not be back until the owners, groundskeepers, and Great Life fix a lot of stuff. Hugely disappointed in the worsening of the course since just last summer.
Had a great time at the event I attended. The club house itself was nothing special inside. Restrooms definitely need upgrade.
Went to an informational dinner there. Food was excellent- potholes to go into the property could bend a rim
The course was in great shape when I played in mid July. A beautiful layout than requires some thinking and maneuvering to score well. The club house is large enough for any outing.
I had my wedding at Deer Creek Golf Club a couple weeks ago, and I am extremely disappointed at how the day turned out. When we booked, we were told that there were two ceremony spots outdoors, and that we could pick one (as we were the first wedding booked for that day) and then if another couple booked, they would be given the other. The day of the wedding, we found out that they were allowing the other couple to get married just feet away from us an hour and a half before our wedding, which means that we couldnt set up during their wedding time. We paid for the ceremony site, as well as the reception room, so I feel like we should have had our OWN ceremony site. As their contract doesnt specifically state that we were granted that site, they refuse to give us anything back for our big day. There were dozens of other mess ups on the day of the wedding on the venues part, but my biggest complaint would be that they arent honest, and they try to get as much money as they can from each weekend. You would think that for $10,000, which is what it costs to get married here after all is said and done, we could AT LEAST not have to compete with another wedding ceremony. Dont be like me and have terrible memories of your wedding day by working with Deer Creek.
Playing pretty average right now. You can tell there isnt a lot of love on the upkeep. Sands are concrete and the rough is super tall. Usually better than this but the layout is still great. Best place to play if you are looking to hide from the KS wind.
Golf was great, and the course was challenging and definitely was worth the wait. Stopped into the Mulligans grill on the turn to buy some quick food and it turned out to be fantastic! Cheddar jalapeno dog was Great for the value. Nothing but good things to say! I will definitely be back. Maybe tomorrow? Who knows...:) thanks
We had a ladies luncheon it was delicious and well prepared.
Food was excellent. Very attentive service. No noise. Can not say enough good things. Thank you, Rachel. We look forward to next years luncheon.
Great course and great service team
Did an excellent job taking care of a group of 100. Good food and kept it fresh throughout the event. However, after dark the poorly lit parking lot is flat-out dangerous. Theres no other way to describe it, and its a legitimate liability to the club. This includes the walkway from the building to the parking lot as well.
Deer Creek has really gone down hill. The course is in bad shape and they arent keeping it up this year. Several traps are hard pan and have grass growing in them. They havent watered the fairways and they are like concrete. Dont know that we will go back.
Golf is a great game - enjoy a sport requiring concentration and discipline while you commune with nature. Take in the beautiful setting carefully maintained by skilled staff. Enjoy a beverage with your friends, crafted by the friendly bartender in the clubhouse, or right on the course when the cart comes to you. Stay tuned as conditons are improving on this course!
There is allot of work to be done to bring that golf course back to its Prime
The bathrooms were disappointing, the dishes were dirty, but the atmosphere was nice.
Greens are excellent, course is everything u want
Beautiful Course and in great shape. The bunkers need some work but it is a great course. The greens run true.
One of the better semi-public courses in Overland Park area.
Great course that is well manicured and the course layout is well designed to provide a challenge. Its pricy to play but that is the cost of having a course that it meticulously looked after.
The only reason I went here was for awedding.
Dont waste your money attending a brunch here. Horrible service. Horrible follow up and horrible resolution of a concern.
I think my GPS thought I drove through this place too. Never been here. Google maps is funny. Thinking I drive through someone property!
I attended a wedding here in the fall of 2017 and it was a mess, they clearly didnt communicate well with the couple on the size of the space or about the number of people the establishment could accommodate. It felt like it was the 1st wedding the staff had ever done. They squeezed about 150 people into a room way too small for that. You couldnt walk around and the layout has horrible. They put 4 tables on the dance floor, where you could not see the bridal party table, and then informed those of us sitting there (40 people) that we would have to move to open the dance floor, but there was no where to go! They set the cake and food up in a side room, so no one could see when the cake was cut, and the food line had no where to go. It was also very clear that they did not communicate with the couple on how much food they would need for 150 people. Overall I was highly unimpressed by the staff, and I would never have an event here for myself.
After shopping several venues for our Sons wedding. He and his bride-to-be chose Deer Creek. Following the choice, we negotiated what we thought to be a final price for the package deal and even had a locked in amount given to us (of course we were silly in thinking that the amount would stand as it was a verbal agreement given by people who are not responsible for what they say, this is in their own admitted word). Well, we should have scrutinized the entire process far closer and with more diligence. As we found out, the word of the event planners at the facility was worth less than Monopoly money. They changed up the pricing after promising to keep it at or below the dollar mark discussed (claiming that their contract stated what was necessary to relieve them of responsibility for what came out of their mouths, never a good idea) I have always been taught that what you say, you are responsible for. Sadly, that is not the case at this facility. At the event, we experienced a mix of ok & sub-par service, the very first item on the buffet for the guests was very solidly frozen shrimp, then we had to contend with having to hunt help down for a number of service related issues only to find them invisible for most of the evening, then the buffet was closed unceremoniously and early after the agreed upon service of remaining open until the event was concluded, leaving several late arriving guests unfed, then the items that were supposed to make an appearance - namely chocolate covered strawberries, never even showed up, none.....Then we were billed for double the amount of the main meat course and of course, you guessed it, it never was served......All-in-all, not a failed event, but nowhere near what a childs wedding is or is imagined to be. I would suggest before booking this venue, you look elsewhere first and wherever you go, make sure you protect your investment and your memories with an attorney reviewing the paperwork and an ironclad agreement that you personally make sure is executed as agreed upon to the satisfaction of all involved. Whatever you do, do not count on a verbal agreement or a handshake with people representing this venue, they have told me they are not responsible for what comes out of their mouths as they do not remember anything they say beyond a few moments of having spoken it, those items are like everything else today, fleeting and undependable. I hope any and all of you reading this post have a better experience than our family did and wish you the best in your event.
Too much ground under repair including many of the fairway bunkers
Didnt search it
Used to play 4 times a week. Great layout. Friendly staff!
Went for silver screen on the green. Grounds are well kept. Drinks are club prices so a little high. Nice clubhouse though.
Played on Sept 19th and the course had just been aerated so the greens were furry and rough but that is to be expected. They had just experienced a lot of rain so the course was soaked and everything was a little over grown but playable.Deer Creek is challenging course and requires lots of course management. I only hit driver 4 times off the tee (now where to hit it on many holes). It is very tight with water and trees on every hole. Good but challenging experience.
Tough golf courseThe sand traps are awful
Great shape and can be tough with all the trees. The creek also winds through the course touching nearly every hole.
Great place for a wedding, friendly place
Great venue for weeding and meeting. Beautiful views. Terrible management, bad communication.
Great venue, friendly and helpful staff. Big wrap around view of the golf course. A lot of space and indoor and outdoor options.
The facilities are nice, here at Deer Creek. The food was great. It is a great place for our ABWA event.
Sand traps were in rough shape ; but the course good. Folks were friendly.
Beautiful course and was in great shape, that is....except for the bunkers. They are mostly all washout areas that havent been kept up. Also, They really need to look at taking some trees down that are within 50 yards of the teeboxes. Several holes have overgrowth of trees within first 50 yards that make you have to tee off into a ten yard channel between the trees. Its rather annoying. Love the course but they really need to look at playability off of about 4 teeboxes.
It was a great experience and a welcoming good time!
I had the honor of being in a wedding here beautiful place even kept calm an unraveling bride
I played Deer Creek today. Granted it was after a rain storm, but I really doubt the recent rain had much to do with the conditions of the course. I have always been a big fan of Deer Creek, but I am not headed back to play any time soon.#13 has been converted to a par 3 and the bridge on #17 is out of commission. On top of all of this, it took over 5hrs to play.
Beautiful course. The scenery is breathtaking! Very friendly staff!
Staff worked well with us on our Shotgun Tournament and everyone had a nice time.
Deer Creek is back! They just replaced all the greens in October of 2010 with new A-4 Bent and reworked all the greenside bunkers. The greens are playing a little slow for grow in and the new sand in the bunkers is great. The course should be in championship shape by late spring of 2011.
Nice place to play but pretty unforgiving, narrow in a lot of places. Was rushed along by the marshals when still waiting on the group in front of us.
Wedding party - Very nice, food was great, servers were great and very nice setting.
Very well kept course, nice patrons. Only knock is no refreshment cart
Nice course. Challenging with yardages.
I played Deer Creek on a brilliant Saturday afternoon - perfect weather break after the incredibly hot and dry summer. The course was in excellent shape, especially given the extreme conditions in Kansas. The greens, fairways, and roughs were all well manicured. That said, the service was quite poor. I have never had a six hour round -- until yesterday. Tee off time was 2:42 and we finished up at 8:42. In front of our threesome was a twosome, a fivesome (two who were walking), and another twosome. There was no one at the starter box to organize those waiting to tee off and we never saw a marshall on the course. The saving grace was the brightt, friendly, and enthusiastic young woman who was driving the refreshment cart - she sold plenty of beer yesterday. I really enjoyed the layout and the challenge of the course and would consider playing again, but probably not on a weekend, unless I have six hours to spare.
Course was in fair shape. Some of the sand traps were unplayable and there are lots of sand traps. Was worth booking online and getting the discount. I would not pay the full price to play this course as there are more well take care of courses for the same money.
One of my favorite public courses in KC and is usually kept in great condition.
Nice golf course. Ive been to several corporate events here.
Attended my Nieces wedding and what a nice venue.
Straight forward fair course. Dont think there are any blinds.
Played here many times over the years. A new company purchased this course and have literally DOUBLED the green fees. The course condition hasnt been enhanced to merit the increase. What a shame. Not worth the high fees.
Nice venue, but poor planning by management meant a disappointing experience.
I went there for a wedding. It was very nice.
Fantastic place to play golf and enjoy your day
Nice place, good staff. Well managed and maintained
