Amazing collection of arts and culture in Oswego among the lovely homes. Narration of the responsible lady is so informative. When we heard that descendents of the rich family donated the house to NY Historic Association, I couldnt appreciate the generosity of them and its their right choice to maintain it accordingly.

Awesome place
So beautiful, hand carved wood work and great history
If you are visiting the city of Oswego and enjoy museums I would highly recommend the Richardson Bates house. Its breathtakingly beautiful and it is still as closely set up as to when the Bates family originally lived in the home in the 1800s. So much to see, even after many visits here there always seems to be something I missed the time before as theres so much to take in. Wonderful place with very friendly workers who have always gone out of their way to answer my many questions about some of the history or art that adorns the house walls. A stunning look back at the Bates lavish lives.
I installed custom reproduction wall to wall carpet there in 1980s. It was on the 1st floor. Anyone recall that. we drove from Boston with it. I also flew out there to adjust it.
Fascinating. Meg was excellent tour guide; she knew the family history intimately.
What a fabulous asset to our historical city.
