Very interesting. Need quite a bit of time to walk around and read all of the information. Will definitely return as there is a new featured exhibit every few months.
Wonderful, you must go now. Less people viewing exhibits. Wonderful staff
History is our best teacher. Take advantage of this wonderful Orange County resource.
Our Orange County Regional History Museum in downtown Orlando is a treasure! There is so much going on here all the time. Retro game nights, Speaker Series, Field trips, and so many hands on educational, interactive displays to interest everyone. I highly recommend bringing out your family and plan to spend a few hours here to explore all this wonderful museum has to offer.
Lovely place for events. We attend an intimate wedding. Totally recommend it. Parking is not too close so arrive early and staff needs to be handy to assist with elevator..
Top notch exhibits. Worth the trip.
I learned a lot of the history of Florida here. Great place to stop by if youre in the area. The Pulse memorial was there when I visited and it was beautiful. They allow photographs in all the rooms, so thats a plus.
I enjoyed the African American section. It made you think about how slavery and Jim Crow laws would have made you feel personally. It also said good things about the people who survived this treatment.
It was entertaining for a rainy afternoon. I really give it 2.5 stars. The exhibits were just not great.
I have the whole place for myself. The place was spotless and well maintenance
This was an awesome experience. The tour guide were great! Forth grade Field trip.
Its awesome! Very educational and my kids loved it.... very pleasant experience.
I learned a lot in my visit to the orange county regional museum. Located in the middle of dwntwn orl. Steps away from the public library n lake eola park. This museum shows the history of part of florida jn four floor. This building was the court house decades ago and today is in a perfect condition. A lot of children go there with their school. So get ready. It will be loud but full of energy.Natives, animals, cape canaveral, health n segregation are some of the wings u can visit for only $8. No coffee shop inside. Staff is cool. Enjoy it.
Wonderful hidden gem. Clean, quiet and very informative. Great adventure through County history. African American exhibit on the 1st floor was amazing. I would return.
We go every year for Halloween as a a safe, fun, and educational place to go. They dont just hand out candy. They have games, and question stations where they give trinket toys instead of candy, and a different scavenger hunts. And I love how the exhibits change some every year. My youngest was the Greatest Showman this year
I came here by accident to kill time lol Wish there were more exhibits but what was there definitely did not disappoint. Worth your time and money especially if you live in the Orlando area. The sinkhole stuff was my favorite but I couldn’t find a picture
This is a very well done regional history center. Easy to navigate, with a concise but deep history into Orlando. Definitely worth the visit if youre a history person.
Terrific exhibits. Great mix of photos and text. Right amount of coverage, curated well. Good break from theme parks! Travelers will also enjoy. Nice employees too.Photos are kids making candy in 19th century, and special exhibit on Pulse.
Lots of wonderful kid friendly exhibits. Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable.
Me and the kids enjoyed getting out and seeing the exhibits. Staff were wearing masks and very friendly.
I went for a field trip with my daughter. I was a little worried that it would be boring but I was 100% wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed it and so did all of the kids. Instead of generally talking about history, it specifically explains the history of Central Florida. I would definitely recommend it!
Didnt know this place exited after 10 years in Orlando. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. The native exhibit narrator was great. Great work! Will be returning soon
Visit was educational and informative.
Nice place to visit to learn about old orlando and gloruda. Parking an issue. People very helpful. The old court room is great.
I would definitely recommend visiting! We learned a lot and the exhibits were nicely done.
Quaint museum in the heart of Downtown Orlando. Excellent place to visit if you want to start learning about Central Florida, and if you are new to the area. I happened to visit on a day that admission was free. Very kid friendly with a few exhibits for kids to touch and feel. An original turn of the 20th century county courtroom is there on display as well.
Nice exhibits about the history of Florida, including exhibits about Florida geology, sink holes, Floridas original settlers, the citrus and castle industries, Walt Disney, tourism, space travel and more.Park at the library lot around the corner and you can get your parking ticket stamped at the entrance for two hours of free parking with paid admission to the museum.
Very interesting. So much to explore. Family spot.
Lovely place to visit. They had a beautiful display of art for pulse nightclub.
Its very informative place where you can get many interesting facts and pictures of historical moments. Also the center helps kids to learn in fun way. Adults would enjoy friendly personnel, lots of exhibits on four floors and nice atmosphere around.
Very informative, kids liked it too.
My dad wanted to go, I wouldnt go back. Their section on people of color is lacking but the section o. Florida was informative
Very interactive, great for all ages
10 stars!! If you live in Orlando, this is the best place to learn the history of the area and take a friend. Ive live here a long time and I learned a lot from this amazing place. And if you have lived in Orlando a short time, you need to see the incredibly beautiful and moving art display of people who understand the tragic event 3 years ago at Pulse. If you see the art and read the artists explain their artwork, you will understand why we can never forget that day. Be safe and never forget to love your neighbor.
This is so clean and still very interesting.
I was wonderfully amazed of the displays, the set up, the ambience of the museum.
Very interesting exhibits about the history of Central Florida. It was free for us because we had a BOA debit card and the 1st full weekend at many museums is free if you have a BOA account. Convenient parking in library parking garage just down the street and 1st 2 hours is covered by the museum if you ask.
Not worth the money. Nothing interesting.
The Orlando Regional History Center is located in the old Neoclassical Orlando courthouse built in 1927. One of the most famous trials held here was for Ted Bundy. When the city outgrew the courthouse they built a new annex next door in 1960. In 1995 community leaders voted to make the 1927 courthouse a regional history museum. By this time the courthouse annex had been closed down due to asbestos. In 1998 it was torn down and Heritage Park was built on the site. The Orange County Regional History Center opened in the restored courthouse in 2000. Parking for the museum is available at the Central Boulevard garage across from the Orlando Public Library. There are four floors of exhibits starting from 12,000 years ago. The fifth floor houses the Joseph L. Brechner Research Center. The story of Floridas history in the museum starts with Native American settlements that turned into pioneer towns that raised cattle and farmed citrus. In the 1970s the tourist industry blossomed turning Florida into the vacation destination it is today. More current events like the shooting of Trayvon Martin, the trial of Casey Anthony, and the 2016 Pulse Nightclub mass shooting are also examined. Exhibits focus on African American history, aviation, the cattle and citrus Industries, the history of tourism in Florida, Floridas indigenous people, the first settlers, the environment, and the impact of the theme parks. One exhibit I really liked was the recreated court room. On one of the tables the name Ted Bundy has been carved. Whether it was actually by him is up for debate. In addition to the permanent collection, the museum also showcases special exhibits. They also offer camps, workshops, lectures, and activities. This museum is associated with the Smithsonian. The museum offers free admission on the third Thursday of each month from 6 to 9 PM. It will also offer free admission on April 4, 2020 for Museum Day. Regular adult admission is $8 but I saved money by purchasing a Groupon. That is a great, inexpensive activity. Lake Eolais nearby and there are a ton of great places to eat in the area. I highly recommend this fantastic museum.
History presented right...enjoyable!
I didn’t have a chance to visit the center yet, but the building looks great from the outside in a very nice location. The price is very affordable; I will have a chance to adjust my review after my visit
Quiet and educational place! I especially liked the citrus exhibit. Theres a lot to see. The museum felt a bit moody, dark and unfinished in comparison to the Tampa Bay History Center I visited a few days later. Staff who got us the admissions could have been nicer... Still a recommendation if youre looking for something to do in central Orlando
Its a fun place to find some local history and fun for the kiddos.
Underrated attraction in a distracting city, please take the time to check it out
Its a wonderful place to take the kids to learn about the history of orange county. It has great interactive areas and they really make learning history fun. They have great events as well.
Am enjoyable afternoon. Not to pricy, but Groupon typically has it on there . My husband and i enjoyed ourselves and it would be great for kids as well. It took us about 1.5 hours or so to go through. Some of the rooms were blocked off because they were getting new exhibits together. Not over priced at all, but you can get it on Groupon; and they have a free day once a month. A nice enjoyable outting!
Pretty cool place to learn about the history of Orlando, Fl
It is a great place to take your time and walk through. You can see everything in one visit.
The educational experience at this museum is priceless. Being Central Florida residents for decades this is the first time we visit this well planned place and now I cant wait to bring visitors over and over. Very quiet on a Sunday afternoon but it is a positive point since this allows you to take the time to enjoy all the exhibits and grasp information. Since the 70 s when I came to Orlando as a tourist, the memory of the orange blossom flowers permeating main roads is still with me and going through the county history brings more value to that original knowledge of the area. This is a good museum to include on a local visit and it will also allow for a cool off during the intense summer days of Florida. Our favorite section was the indigenous and how settlements were started in Central Florida.
Not a huge amount to see but not too expensive and well laid out.
It was a great place for an 8 year old and accompanying adults. Nice low lights if you have a youngster with sensory issues. The plus for this nursing mother were the chairs with arms great for breastfeeding in both the 4th as 3rd floor womens restrooms. I did not look oh the 2nd or 1st floors.
The tours were great. Well written and (mostly) kept 3rd graders engaged. Lovely updates since the last time I was there. Lots of fascinating exhibits to give a glimpse of history in Central Florida.
You can learn things not taught in school.
I love the History Center. Friendly staff, clean museum, amazing historical information about Central Florida.
Very educational place, great to learn about Floridas history.
Really enjoyed exploring the museum. It was super quiet on a Saturday, pretty sure we were the only ones there besides the employees. Might have something to do with all the barricades/fencing surrounding the entrance, made it difficult to figure out how to actually get inside & we werent really sure they were actually open. I recommend it for anyone interested in local history or just looking for something different to do.
Very nice historical museum covering the history of Orange and surrounding counties. Very well put together informative displays along with interactive elements. Four floors of history from present day going back 10,000 years. It is housed in the old courthouse and jail. Dont forget to ask for a receiver for the audio tour from the receptionist. They really enhance the experience. We didnt know about them till we were done with the first few exhibits. The original courtroom was really neat. They have a traveling exhibit hall so that you can return months later and some things will be new. When you go give yourself plenty of time at least 3 hours.
Excellent place to learn about the history of the area. It was very nice and informative.
Interesting museum. I would like to see the exhibits and section dedicated to the survival and perseverance of black people in that part of Florida updated so it can be as vibrant and inviting as the new Pulse night club memorial. Just an observation. Well laid out and overall a good experience.
If you are in the Church Street area downtown, take a moment to visit. This is a great place to learn a little about Florida history.
3rd and 4th floors are interesting. 2nd floor could be better
I give this place 5 stars as its quite a nice little museum. Theyre affiliated with the Smithsonian, so you can bet its good. Here you can discover the involved history of Florida from its very beginnings to the present day. It is bold and you are not sheltered here from seeing the negative behaviors of slavery and deception of the Indians. Its important to learn history and ensure the past isnt repeated.I cant believe Id never been before. I will surely return and bring friends and family.
Beautiful, educational space with an abundance of information about Floridas local history. We went for the Pulse Memorial which we found to be a touching, meticulously crafted exhibit. The content in this part of the museum may not be considered eco-friendly (depending on your parenting style), but there is a nice little child area at the beginning of it with a decent line of sight so that you may browse the exhibit and still keep an eye on your little ones.
Very informative and comprehensive. Four floors to see. Well organized.
This is a cool place to go and find out about the history of Orlando and Florida. There are plenty of interesting and interactive exhibits. There are multiple floors that are all chronologically ordered by time period and easy to follow! Great place for kids or couples that want to do something out of the ordinary. The people at the customer service counter are helpful and fun to talk to!
Rrally needs to add a little something but it was ok
It was a great experience. I love to learn the new and interesting facts in regions I explore. Some exhibits and galleries were not open. Now, I have to return and see what Ive missed.
I like the museum it is very good and I learned a lot about the Seminole Indians and the history of Orlando Florida.. I totally recommended to the people who are visiting Orlando Florida to go
It was just a nice place to see its history
I absolutely loved my visit to the museum! I learned so much and had such a great time going through every section! The second floor hit me hard and made me really emotional, especially what happened in the last few years and this year. I spent a lot of time there and I really appreciate it.Thank you for the wonderful experience.
If you live in Orlando and your like history, please do yourself a favor and visit this place.
I was looking forward to visiting this place and a few others on my trip down to Orlando as I grew up in Orlando. I grew up in Orlando back when it was a sleepy little town totally changed today in fact I barely recognized it today? I was looking forward to reliving some of my past memories there but that really didnt happen? I had high hopes for this place also one of the reasons I drove down was to do some exploring while see my family but what I wanted to see was another story? I had called in advance and planed on looking at the archives & records section as I was interested in the old Lake Eola bandshell and some other historic items but was not able to see anything because everybody was busy until next week? Sadly as a member I kind of felt let down as everybody was too busy or just did not have the time to do what I requested or want me to come back at a different time which was why I was really disappointed. I felt this was more of a tourist attraction for kids then serious historic viewers with very little history of the real old Orlando. Nothing was mentioned about many of the things I grew up around very generic and no meat? I did enjoy the Dr. Phillips actor & the Citrus section which was a big endity in the 50s & 60s. I wanted to take a nice picture of the old court house clock but much of it was thrown away as well as other historic items. The lighting above and reflections from the plastic made it not picture worthy so much for that venture as others? Guess my expectations was just too high for this place or I knew more than others maybe my timing was totally off who knows but was not impressed overall. The gift shop was nice and the staff but I felt empty inside. Not what I would have expected from a so called History center.
Amazing place as someone who struggle with history this helps
I did eventually find my car! Thank you so much!
Great place to check out and learn a little Floridian history while escaping the heat! The exhibits are interesting and very well taken care of. We enjoyed our time there.
We loved the history center. Its history on Florida is in great detail. Very family friendly. Not as big as you think like a museum but big enough to spend couple of hours. Also if you bank at Bank of America you get in for free every first weekend of the month.
Amaizing place to learn everything youd ever want to know about florida
I absolutely loved it. I visit many museums and this is definitely on my top 5. Its fun and interactive, yet very historical. Definite must see if youre visiting Downtown Orlando. At the moment is it is free to hurry! They have a lovely tribute to the 49 pulse. I cried throughout the whole journey. It was amazing and so thoughtfully planned. You felt the raw emotions from every piece.
We just so happened to catch it while it was free, I would have had no problem paying because it was an amazing experience. Had so much fun we spent the whole day there almost. Great time.
Excellent exhibits. Pulse exhibit was beautiful with wonderful art.
Good museum, good service, friendly staff. We hope that the exposure will be longer with time.I would like to see pictures of local artists, artisans products as well.
A hidden gem, the History Center has done a fantastic job of visually showing the History of Central Florida. They currently have artwork from the Pulse Night Club tragedy, very moving.
Cute little museum with quite a bit packed in. Well worth the $8. We spent two hours and skimmed several sections. Probably could have spent another full hour if we had spent time at each exhibit.
Very well put together history of Central Florida. Growing up here I though I knew the history of Orlando and surrounding areas. Some facts I knew but this is a well thought out and put together venue. It was really cool that it is located in an old courthouse and has one of the actual court rooms for display that you can go through. You should check it out!
Loved retro game night, definitely telling my friends.
Preserved courtroom is beautiful.
Today was a sad day, I watched how some kids that were in the adventure camp at a public park were very rude with my 5 year old daughter. I know that happens, but what got me was the 18-25 year old babysitters or camp counselors didn’t bat an eye and just sat there. They watched as my daughter came over to me crying and had to be consoled because she treated in her words “not nice which made me sad”. So the next time you think about sending your kids to a program or daycare remember that they aren’t always being taught kindness, and in a time like today it just pisses me off.
Concert at The Plaza. Nice small venu
Very clean, had a good feel. Very educational
I love history seeing where we came from and I felt it was displayed well here
Great local history museum. Lots of history in the building itself as the former orlando courthouse. As well as amazing incite into why Florida and Orlando and surrounding areas have become the global hubs of business they currently are.
We had our wedding reception at the History Center and it is a night we will never forget. Everything was perfect, and the staff, especially Megan P, was amazing in helping us host a great party. We will forever be grateful to the History Center for being such an instrumental part of our day. Thank you!
Nice & easy self pace tour. Interesting exhibits of local and state history
Exhibits of Florida history are well done. Some of the exhibits were from places I lived and worked. Great time.
