My visit provided me with knowledge of Oregon city that I didnt know, I would say the movie which is part of the tour was awesome
Very good exhibit covering the Oregon Trail. Can get busy with field trips but you can find a quieter time. Plan a two hour visit if you like to read and look at everything. Maybe longer if you want to do all the hands on activities that they often offer. Make a day out of it and visit other places in Oregon City area.
I had been here as a child 23 years ago. I had fun memory of the place. When i visited this time i was less than satisfied. I enjoyed the hands on, self guided tour. There were many informative pieces and a cute 30 minute video. I givethis a 2 star review because we felt cheated and walked away from this experience incredibly frustrated. We paid for the inside, self guided tour, and the outside tour. The outside tour is a waste of money. First, we went to the meeting place for the tour to begin and NO ONE came out to let us know they decided not to do it. After 15 minutes i went inside to find out what was going on. The young woman i talked to was unprofessional and sarcastic with me. We came back to take the tour at the 3rd time block as we had already paid for this service and the woman who gave me attitude was our tour guide. She was unprofessional. I did not pay to hear her opinions or watch her sarcastic attempts at humor. It took 90 minutes and we could have done the walk in 20 minutes ourselves. Much of the facts she gave us was contradictory to the information we had read inside the museum. It is NOT worth the cost. If you are new to Oregon Trail history, do not waste your money on the guided tour.Additionally, this exhibit did not feel like a crucial historic place. It felt like a poorly maintained city park/tourist trap. It is probably great abd better staffed for school field trips. But insanely overpriced and under maintained for a historic location.
The End of the Oregon Trail has a wonderful museum and beautiful grounds. This venue also hosts the annual the Oregon City Festival of the Arts on the 2nd weekend of August. The art show features photography, paintings, woodwork, jewelry, ceramics and more. Food vendors and live music add to the festival atmosphere.
This is a great place to visit to learn more about Oregon City history and about the early settlers to the West Coast in general.Theres a lot to see and many hands on activities for young children and adults such as candle making and doll making. The surrounding area is very pretty and a nice place to walk and enjoy nature.
This museum helps bring the personal stories to light. There is a lot of reading (should you want) but also a great short film, candle making, and a warm host at the front door who is very educated and ready to share history. Its an easy visit and doesnt have to be long, should you want to just glance through things. I do recommend reading a bit though, as that is where the stories are.
It was fun with little stories of a few past community members including a holographic John Mcloughlin telling his story. There could have been more info on the historical community and the area or more on the famies travelings experiences as well but was mostly the oregon trail experience its self, understandably given the name the end of the oregon trail. Was very insightful to the past experiences of woman who were at the mercy of men and or the elements of being left behind in some cases even.Plus remembring people died and babies were born and survival was what they all longed for at the endCool stuff to see .
Great outside tour, lots of wonderful information. Our daughter got to take part in reinacting portions of the Oregon trail which captivated her for an hour, even at 8 years old. She even got to make and eat butter during the tour, which she still talks about. Just plan for enough time to see and do it all.
We visited for over two hours because there was so much to see and do. The movie was awesome and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful too. Loved it!
I went between Christmas and New Years and they said they werent doing tours that day because they had a field trip in; I was there 2.5 hours and never seen a field trip. That were super helpful with lessons and triaging my sons cough.
Absolutely amazing. Lots if information. Very nice facility and very informative people.
So much history in such a beautiful place
Love the park music had issues, looking forward to some Blues on the 25th.
Came here for my birthday for a brewfest in July and it was just awesome! To see a part of history is and read up on The Oregon Trail was educational and not to mention drinking beer while doing all this just add a touch of fun that makes the experience worth while.
The tour was very informative and Richard was fabulous in his descriptive explanations. The house has been beautifully maintained and preserved. The building is stunning. Such a rich history of the beginnings of Oregon and how it became part of the United States instead of a Canadian Province. I will be back again.Only open Friday and Saturday and tours are 10:15 and hourly until 4:15. Its worth the trip.
A nice museum to visit that has a focus on the end of the Oregon trail, as the name would indicate. My wife and I visited a museum at the beginning of the trail so it was a nice bookend to visit this one.The exhibits give a nice general overview of the trail and information on some local history but there wasnt a lot of depth. Its kind of a small museum. Granted, we visited in late February so there were no outside activities, if they have any.
Friendly staff. Some wonderrful finds in store from art to foods and gift items with a regional theme. Clean with lots of parking and places to rest. Beautiful grounds and educational. Thanks.
A lot of history can be learned here, there are many really cool displays of life in the mid 1800s. We have spent most of the summer visiting historic parts of Oregon so this was a good addition but also something of a review of much we have seen. If you are well versed in Oregon trail or Oregon State history you will probably not gain much from a visit. If you are new to Discovery of those subjects this will be a great help. If you are choosing between the admission for inside or outside only, choose the inside. There is very little added with the outside tour and if it is the only thing you do its a waste of money. Our tour guide was not well informed and contradicted much of the information displayed inside. The tour drug on very long with very little really shared, just many rabbit trails and attempts at humor. Additionally make sure you verify the tour schedule. We were just late on the first tour and came back out to catch the second and after 15 minutes of waiting at the tour gathering point, past the scheduled start time, we found someone inside who said(with no explanation) oh its not happening now because its so far past the start time. All in all it is a place to learn some cool history but gives the feeling of a small town tourist trap or just another city park(toilets overflowing, cobwebs and dead bugs covering all the lights) rather than the historic national landmark it really should represent. In all honesty I would recommend the high desert museum in Bend over this establishment any day.
Gotta love this place. Besides the awesome history and the people that insure we remember it, there are always great family friendly events here during the summer. Thank you Oregon City, and everyone else, that make this one of our favorite local attractions!
A good place for kids or school children.
If youre a local, become a tourist in your own city. And if youre not local you can learn so much by stopping in. This is a great place to educate yourself on the longest emigration in America, the horrors and successes on the trails and the general history of Oregon. Take your kids! Theyll love it.
A low-key and somewhat dated (pun intended) venue, interesting and worth the stop, even if only once. For the museum, conveying the historical information is primary goal (not entertainment) and comes by way of indoor exhibits (some of them activity-based for kids), many placards, a modest 25-minute mixed-media movie and some points of interest in the surrounding grounds. Some outdoor event stages apparently provide concerts, depending on the sason. If you are not already familiar with the Oregon Trail history, this museum will help put you in better touch with the legacy of the area.
Great for a rainy Oregon day! Went on Saturday just as they opened and had the place to ourselves. Lived here my whole life and still learned alot!
We did the self paced tour and had a great time. Depending on if you want to explore every item you could spend hours milling around soaking up the historical information
Went for the Oregon City National Night Out, and suffice to say I was enamored by the decor. The park itself is smaller than some parks Ive seen, but it has lots of open space. The trails provide great informational guides and tools to remind you of the parks namesake. I wouldve liked to have seen more trash/recycling bins, and more things to entertain the children.
Such a fun place. Totally worth going to. You get to make a candle, rag doll and a little notebook that you can take home. Kids loved it. There is also a dress up area with small and big clothes so the whole family can dress up together:-) movie theater and hands on area with animal pelts, Lincoln Logs, and some other fun activities. You should totally go:-)
I only spent about 30 minutes here, but I really liked it. I learned more about the trails and tribulations of the Oregon Trail and the folks who traveled it then I knew there was to learn. And standing under the trees at the historic park, having just seen the water falls by the old paper mill, and reading about the lives of the people who settled there, I felt as if I was there too.But much safer.
Awesome place to get know about Oregon. So much new information.
Beautiful landscaping. Good spot to chill for a couple hours.
It is very informative. The exibits are good and the price is right. Im glad I went.
It was fun for me to see the end of the famous trail. The guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. I learned many new facts about the start of Oregon, how long the trail was used, and the various laws that helped shape a future.
Great historical information. Had fun!
I only have been here for concerts in the park. Each time I attend, it is an enjoyable atmosphere.... Family friendly and fun.
Just saw We Three at concert in the park night and it was amazing! The food trucks were amazing as well! Thank you for the amazing adventure!
The exhibits are fun, interactive, interesting and well cared for. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.
A wonderful place with rich history to the U.S., such a sad tale and is beautifully told through this site. Took many great photos and had some touching moments when reading about what they had endured.
Great place to learn about american history and enjoy the process. Everyone enjoyed the time and enjoyed the process. School age children, parents and seniors.
I got there when they were closing. The indoor museum may be nicer. Probably a nice way to cap off a long trip.
Great for children. Good for adults. As an adult, like the Oregon Historical Museum at the other end of town best
Great place to learn about the End Of The Oregon Trail. Nice history lesson and where to enjoy a hike.
The 25 minute movie was worth it, especially if you are a history buff.
Ok, but not so interesting as the center near Baker City. Nevertheless you will learn what the settlers had to endure on their half year long trail. I liked that you also get the facts versus the fiction, for example why they formed a circle every night. It was not to stand against the evil native Americans... What I also liked was the building itself. It looks like a several huge wagons.
It was so interesting, fun facts.
Place was friendly clean, very interesting presention.
Free Summer concerts.Across the street from Coasters Crossing for great food, bev. & friendly service before, during or after the event.
Great ending to my Oregon Trail adventure. A must see and worth the entry fee.
Great place to learn and especially for kids to interact.
Lived in Oregon all my life and this is the first time that I have visited the end of the Oregon trail.. Its pretty awesome so if you are like me and have never been its a must see.
We took the tour, and my kids LOVED IT! They were engaged the whole time, and the tour guide had a ton of activities for the kids (and adults) to participate in along the way.
Great park, lots s of great exhibits. And major important it was the end of the trail .
Lots of info on what to see and do in Oregon. Helpful staff. Clean restrooms
This place is very cool we attended and event here and look forward to doing so again.
Great field trip...the students and staff/chaperones loved it. Interesting with hands-on activities. We were a little confused about where to go/how to proceed. It would be nice if we had specific instructions for arrival. Someone greeted us, but the groups didnt know where to go. All-in-all, a great experience!
This place rocks I went to a concert there with my kids and it was really too much fun I hope to go again it was totally awesome
My friends and I were lucky enough to show up yesterday on a free day as they had an event going on with lots of hands-on learning, demonstrations, and outdoor happenings. There were plenty of volunteers dressed up for the event and it was really great to see that. All in all, this was great fun and I recommend this interpretive center for anyone. Keep an eye out for events to get a little extra in your day!
This place talks a good game, but theres really not much there.
The tour is fantastic if you have kids; very interactive.
Had a wonderful time at an event that was held at this venue. Rockfest 2019 was amazing.
This was a fantastic use of the day!Even my 11 year old daughter loved it!
Great place to learn about history with fun exhibition areas. Well worth a stop off.
Im really confused by all the good reviews. I went here with my kids, husband, and his parents, and we all thought it was pretty boring and didnt provide much information. There was a big map at the beginning that was helpful, otherwise it was mostly reading lots of little snippets here and there and trying to piece the story together. Most of the space was occupied with a fake schoolroom and general store but there wasnt really any information about anything there. The volunteer was really pushy and every time we moved, looked at anything, or commented shed come over and want to correct us or have a conversation, including the candle making. Btw the candle making seemed dangerous - vats of hot wax and stools so little kids can reach right in.The movie was ok and provided most of the information we got there. Weirdly, through the other side of the movie theater is more exhibits, and theres no other way of getting to them, and we went through those doors and found it by chance. The day we were there a guy was doing a PowerPoint on Oregon geography trivia, and there were no illustrations so we had no context for anything so we didnt stay long for that.Beyond all this, the layout was so weird, and it seemed like a lot of wasted space. It felt like this museum had been awesome when built, and then sat and decayed for a decade. Even walking around outside, the layout of the path was weird and I think we ended up doing it backwards somehow. We got in mostly free using passes from our library, but if wed paid full admission, we would have been really ticked off. I was hoping to find out about the Oregon trail- who came, why they came, and what the journey was like. I feel like I didnt find out much here.
Great bands and food in the summer!! Good amount of parking too!
The Docent engaged our Girl Scouts in lots of fun activities. She was quite knowledgeable about the relevant history of the Oregon Trail, and I had a great time, as did our scouts.
Really interesting place. Theres a free coffee /tea K-cup stand for visitors
Pretty decent facilities & worth stopping at. Info center has lots of maps, pamphlets for all sorts of regional activities/points of interest and a few trinkets for sale as mementos. Tickets for the interpretive center available in the visitors center as well.
Nice grounds. Clean and safe
Recovery rockfest was held at this location. Its a event for addicts in recovery, in memory of my best freinds Mike M.
Free concert...Stone in Love.... Journey tribute band.... fantastic
Great place to get information on the migration to Oregon from its beginning.
Beautiful themed rooms with interesting history
Cant say much more than I was pleasantly surprised by how well the museum and its grounds were kept. Having lived in Oregon for 10 years and traveling back yearly for the past 25 years to visit family I had never taken time to visit is look back into the history of Oregon. While I may not agree with some of Oregons new culture I was impressed with this museum. Great and very personable interpreter added tremendously to our visit. While in Oregon City be sure to visit this museum.
This is an awesome place to visit and they have fun events.
Plan about 2 hours here. The site is an interactive museum with tons of information and the opportunity to experience activities ...of tje time such as candle dipping. There was a great movie part way through and very knowledgeable staff!
I liked the special event free day they had for 6.21.19 - 6.22.19 it was informational and told me the past history of the Oregon trail.
So much fun! Great place to bring your kiddos.
So much better than I thought it would be. Kept a 2 year old, 6 year old, and an 8 year old mesmerized.
It was for the Oregon City Police Night Out, my son and I had a blast!
Very good museum that tells the story of the Oregon Trail. Free parking.
Kalimba played Earth Wind and Fire music there. It was wonderful.
Very interesting, great little shop and you can make your own little candle!
Interesting, but it could use more original material.
Very interesting, all about the history of the journey and once they reached Oregon City.
Great journey (cover band) stone in love concert!!
Great history about the Oregon trail. Do the tour, lots of informative information.
All of my best childhood memories hid in the gardens of this monumental wagon themed center.
Had a great time day drinking like Abe Lincoln
Closed down a couple years ago. Attended special event in the park like setting
Thanks place was a lot of fun. Went on my 10yr old daughter field trip. Fun to take your kids. Its only a couple hours long. Its partially outside, so if its cold outside dress appropriately.
Such beautiful grounds. So much history. Great place for family picnic. Pet friendly.
Great experience for a second grader, on a school - free day. Exhibits that are tailored to the level of the kids who show up. A movie that presented facts and stories taken from the diaries of people who actually came across on the Oregon Trail.
Great way to spend an afternoon learning about local history
Just alright. Fun to make your own candle.
Remarkably friendly staff service. Excellent display of artifacts. Good with kids.
We were at a two-day special event at End if the Oregon Trail. Enjoyed the amazing different arts.
Lovely displays, great outdoor events
This was an excellent two hours of interactive learning.
The volunteers/employees love their jobs and love history. Its really amazing to visit a museum and spend an hour talking to an employee there who shares your same fascination with history. The museum is worth the visit!
