This place is awesome! There are several different trails for all skill levels. Flat trails for families with small children or anyone who just wants to walk. There are several hills too for those who want a bit more of a workout. There is a beautiful high trail with a beautiful view! I highly recommend this park!
Family friendly loop with rolling hills. Came here and did a ~5 mile loop on a Saturday. It’s a pretty popular trail even during covid. The trail is exposed so bring lots of water, or come earlier in the day. Leashed dogs are allowed. It’s an equestrian trail as well, so be mindful of the horse poop! It’s fine if you wear sneakers, although hiking boots wouldn’t hurt when you’re going downhill, as some of the parts are sandy. The trail is pretty wide, and there’s plenty of options to take different directions if you’re inclined to explore. There is a sulphuric smell close to the lake, so that was the only unpleasant thing about the hike. Parking is $3 and you’ll pay at the machine. Bathrooms (both porta-potty and regular) are available at the entrance. There’s a lot spots available; it would be difficult to find street parking since the neighborhood posted signs indicate that permits are needed. Overall, it’s a good spot for people of all fitness levels.
We meant to go to the Lands End Labyrinth, but instead we had a lovely walk on the trail here. It was gorgeous just taking in the scenery, and it was empty being a Tuesday afternoon. Especially during the pandemic, it was just refreshing to take in the beautiful nature and fresh air! Plenty of parking at different points which is great for SF!
Was a fun trail. I plan to return soon to ride more as I was rushing to find a good place to ride for a 1st time ride after nearly 3 whole months of not riding any trails. Nice punch hills that allow for fun fast decent down
Several access trails. Some if the staff was very polite, one was very rude. Pleasant environment.
I love this landmark! I can just go here and relax and bring friends and family. Its one of the things I love about Orange County! I love taking my friends kids to the playgrounds and the arboretum for a nice walk.
Medium Sized Hiking Area (Dog Friendly)$3 ParkingHiked in NovemberBiggest downside to this park is you have to pay $3 to park here. Parking is spacious at least when I went on a Tuesday.Terrain varies from relatively flat to pretty steep. However it does offer great overlooks.Plenty of places to rest or have a picnicDog friendly hiking. There are several poo bag stations however not as many as some other parks. I suggest bringing your own.The people I met on the trail all seem to be friendly.Bicyclists and Horses are allowed on a good portion of the trails offered.
Beautiful place to go during fall or spring time. There are some awesome dirt trails and paths for walking, running, mountain biking and or other things. Best times to go is early mornings or at dusk.
This is one of my favorite OC locations for running! The hilly chaparral terrain, varied foliage, and enchanting fragrance of wild sage make this large natural area delightful! The entrance in Tustin has free parking, and the entrance in Orange has a three-dollar-per-day parking fee. Bring water, and a mask in case its crowded! :)
Love this place! The spring is especially magical with everything blooming. The summer can get hot during the day so bring lots of water, but theres multiple trail levels to take for all levels of hikers.
Peters Canyon was the place that gave the toddler-me my lifelong addiction to, and passion for, the Great Outdoors! Ive enjoyed mountain biking and hiking, but most of all trail running, here for over two decades. With limited parking, the trails here often force hikers into the surrounding neighborhoods to find a space to park, so if you visit during peak hours (afternoons/weekends) be prepared for some extra exercise. Id recommend leashing your dog due to my own pups several encounters with the scaly kind, not to mention loose pets are a potential hefty fine. Bottom line: this is one of the best local nature parks, but use caution because it is definitely NATURE, so therefore is populated by wild animals.
Excellent place for a good jog and hike. Well maintained and people are mindful of the social gathering rules for the most part
I love this place. You can take long hikes or shorts. There are not that many paths. But they are nice. They have elevation and do make you break a sweat. I take my 5 and 8 year old with me and take an hr hike. Nice and not very difficult hike to take with young kids.
Affordable parking. Awesome Trails.Great place to be at one with Mother Nature.
Awesome place for hiking with friends, the trails are both horse and pet friendly (watch where you step!) We arrived at 645 am on a Saturday and there was a short line at the gate to get in. Just before 700 the gates opened and we were able to park ($3 fee). Maps are available on site and there are several trails to choose from with varying degrees of difficulty.
Exhilarating. Im not the most experienced hiker and found this awesome! I did take a few breaks and drink lots of water. I found it ok challenging. Ive always hiked in very humid weather or while its raining so this was my first time hiking in a desert environment.
Great workout since there are so many hills but there is almost no shade. Better go super early and slather on that sunscreen too.
Beautiful scenery! If you are new to hiking this is a pretty easy hike. A lot of flat land and a few steep areas.
Super crowded now. Been a while since weve ridden here. Good ride overall though
Fun challenging trail to take the dog. My boyfriend I had a great time!
This place never lets me down practically my backyard. Was destroyed with last years fires but is growing again. Looking beautiful as before. Very popular place for locals and not hard of a trail. Check it out. Wish parking was free. But it wouldnt be clean if it was.
Easy to medium hike. Great place to get some exercise in and experience the outdoors without leaving the city. Parking may be a problem and be sure to read the signage or you will get ticketed
Not the best location or well created trails, but the climb is awesome as the trail goes up and down a lot. It would be cool if you can mountain bike it. The loop is about 5.7 miles long with several spots where you can turn around or cut short. Perfect workout. Some spots have great views.
Great hike with many high slopes. First time here but only did half of it.
Peters Canyon Regional is a good park to run, hike, or mountain bike. All the rain from 2018-2019 provided great growth to the park that suffered a major fire two years ago. Its really green at the moment and there are some challenging hills to be climbed. The reservoir has quite a bit of water in it provide a beautfiul reflection in the water. Lets cross our fingers that we dont get anymore fires in California this summer. Happy trails.
Great place to get your daily exercise and enjoy the view. Choice of a flat trail or a steep ridge trail that has the views. This year the vegetation is lush from the rains.
Nice park, pretty views. Taking off a statement because trail markers were a little confusing from the main parking lot.
Pretty park but its dirt and gravel parking so your car will get dusty
Nice cloudy busy but w enough space to work out and run or walk comfortably!
It was great. The rain has really made this place grow back. Awesome hiking spot. I recommend for more of a desert feel. The views are nice. Do not go if it rains there will be lots of mud
Gorgeous park thats well maintained. Cant believe Ive never heard of it before.
Great place for trekking. Its open till sunset in winters till 6PM and in summer it remains open till 7:30PM.Here the parking charges is $3.
I really like this hike! My friend and I went for a hike here today. Ive been to this location a few times. I usually get there at 7am which is when the parking lot opens at 7am. Parking is $3 which isnt bad at all and there are always plenty of spaces 1st thing in the morning. The trail has some variations so its a nice moderate hike and you can switch up the routes if you like. We did the loop tissu which was a little over 4 miles. Ill definitely be back!
A good place in this neighborhood for a a quick hike. There are some ups and downs to make the hike interesting. It even allows horses. Bike of course.
Beautiful park in a very urban setting. Challenging trails are Well marked. Lots of wildlife, including snakes! They arent aggressive. Lots of trail runners getting their fit on. (Athletic) Leashed dogs welcome. Great way to get your nature fix while in the area.
Even though is surrounded by patches of suburban development it is a very cool open space with trails. Good for mountain biking and hiking.
Good trails and maintenance all around. Had a good little hike
Great hiking trail with many options for those that want easy-hard or short/long treks. Well signed and good facilities. $3 to park for the day
Awesome trails, hiking easy, intermediate and hard. Flowers trees lots of shade birds singing beautiful views fresh air good workout, so peaceful I love it!!!
Not too crowded most of the time, great vegetation, trails arent too demanding, so on and so forth.....
One of my favorite quick hikes.
Nice park. Coming back in shape since the fires. But severely over crowded this past week. No social distancing, almost no one with masks.
Good plece for running hiking and walking
Ill have to go back to try a more challenging hike, but its a well-maintained, if not sandy loop around the reservoir lake.
Most parts are still recovering from the fire and the lake during the summer season is not as fabulous. If you decide to climb a bit, however, youre going to see such a gorgeous landscape! MAKE SURE TO TAKE WATER WITH YOU.
Enjoyable hiking trails, lots of hills. Not much shade so make sure to wear a hat and bring sunscreen.
Great place to go for a nice run or a long walk
Love the variety of trails. Great views of the reservoir.
Easy and hard trails, dog friendly. Nice views good place to go hike
Great place for a walk or hiking with friends, family and pets
Great hiking spot with various paths for beginners and moderate individuals
Great hike connected to Peters canyon hike. You have some many options as far as uphill action to just inclined kind of a hike.
Great park for walking and bike rides. It gets crowded really early on Saturday. Beautiful sweeping views.
Great trail with nice scenery
My family loves going here and my dog loves it too it has all sorts of trails it is a lot of fun but its best to go in the day time
Perfect hills and great space to breathe
Very nice place for hiking.
I nice place to hike or ride!
Loved the different trails and the mountain uphill climb. Really great workout.
Such a beautiful place to walk, run, hike or bike. Birds are chirping, bees arebuzzing and mosquitos are biting. This place was once dry and is now filled up from the recent rains. Wild life is abundant. You can see some rabbits in some pf the photos. The trails are not too intense for hiking. I would say it is medium to light intensity so even beginners who are out of shape wont be intimidated.
I love that this is just a few miles away from home. There are some challenging parts, but an easy hike. Great for beginners.
**April 30, 18 update** Everything is now open!!! ALL trails. Trails are newly lined with (what looks like) a temporary fencing system. Or at least I hope. Its not very attractive. White coated rope looped between spaced out white metal pegs in ground. *********Love Peters Canyon! I cant stand mindlessly running on level pavement. I never get tired of Peters, even if I take the same trail weekly! Always a challenge. Gorgeous views. Fresh clean air. Peaceful. Beautiful. Even after the Oct 17 fire. My heart ached when that happened. It took me far too long to return!! Yesterday was my 1st visit back. Its pretty much all open.. with exception of the lake view trail & small section near parking lot/ entrance. Many trees were charred but not dead, lots replanted & growing back in. Some places in the park appeared totally unscathed. The bathrooms look renovated recently. They were totally spotless!
Great park for hiking, biking, and running. Just watch your step, there are rattlesnakes!
Great hiking! We hike hear a ton, now with my 3 year old. Some steeper hills but great view of the canyon and reservoir. Sunsets are spectacular here
So pretty here. Plenty of variety of trails depending on difficulty.
Offroad gravel, sand, and dirt trails with small amount of shade closer to base. Recovering nicely since 2017 wildfires - lots of invasive wild mustard. Street parking at base. Metered lot parking at top / north end. Always busy with dog walkers, joggers, families, and occasionally with bicyclists. Have heard coyote packs howling near dusk.
Great place to run, lots of hills and nice trail. Definitely not for beginners though.
Peters Canyon is a family friendly hike. It has two main trails; one that goes up over the hills no more than 500 feet and another that is flat from one end to the next. Some of the recent wildfires have left some damage to the local vegetation and some of the smaller alternative route trails are closes off. Street parking is limited because you cant park at all on one side of the road. Chances are if the street is full that youll have to park down the road at the local elementary school. Overall nice hike to go out and spend some time with the family.
Went around 5pm and it was fairly busy. Nice trail to run and challenge yourself. Parking is $3
Always good for a quick ride!
Terible hik not goor
Has moderate up hill and down hill trails at this park. Also dog friendly with complimentary poo baggies to clean up after your dog. Very beginner friendly for hiking.
Awesome park with options to choose from in terms of trails. Lots of wildlife to observe like snakes, beetles, and crawfish. Have to pay $3 for parking. I believe they have monthly passes as well.
Love this trail but be advised there is not much shade.
Another mild workout! Is beatiful. You have to try!
I truly enjoyed the hike. if you get the maps at one of the starting points, you have the option for multiple different hiking routes. we went on the longer one, which takes you all around the park. there was a beautiful part to it covered by greenery and foliage, and its all-around great for a solid hike. take heed to the warnings though, because the last time i went, we ran across a rattlesnake in the middle of the trail, so the wildlife is there.honestly, its a great place
Plenty of parking. A lot of hikers though and wished people would wear masks.
Great place to hike different routes to take
If u want a medium trail hike with alot of cardio..this is the best for u.. They have some shade in some areas especially the loop where there are some benches and also a shed in some areas if u want to rest. If u get tired u can just do the first loop and get back up after.
Good place for a beginner hike. The place was deserted after the fire, but now after the continuous rainfall the place is getting greener and beautiful.
I was very satisfied as a beginner hiker.
Amazing outdoor experience! Good place to hike, We really enjoyed the Lakeview trail..... wonderful.
Excellent trail for beginners and adept hikers. Offers challenging trails for those who are up to the challenge but at the same time you can take the more scenic, relaxing trails if you are looking to sight see. Be sure to check out the giant uphill strip, it is certain to make even seasoned athletes break a bit of sweat.
Parts of the park are still closed due to fire recovery. But you can get a great hill work out on the trails! Bright and sunny, clean. Pay to park, but its not expensive. Nice Views!
Beautiful hike, but WAY too many people. Single file hiking isnt very fun.
Nice place to hike. Our family went on New Years Day and boy was it busy. Lots of trail bikers, people walking their dogs, joggers, hikers. Maybe a lot of people trying to start the new year trying to exercise more? Not sure if its always this busy or not. Small fee for parking. Trail was overall pretty mild except for a few avoidable hills for those that prefer flatter terrain.
This is a great place to hike/jog.
Great place to get your walk on! Found NOPALES along the way!
For my first time there it was great. Talked with a few regulars and learned about a few of the side trails. Looking forward to my next visit....A bit surprised to see a crew from WCA that is working on the parks regeneration from the fire, with an open CAMPFIRE cooking lunch
This park has part of the Mountains to Sea trail in it and is a relatively short walk from the Irvine Regional Park. The park doesnt have a whole lot of shaded spots in it, so be sure to bring lots of sunscreen and a hat. It was kind of dry and dusty when we went, but I think this place would be beautiful in spring. Im looking forward to visiting then (and during a cooler season).
Nice hiking area.
I think this park is definitely for more experienced hikers. This is not an easy hike or walk. This is extremely strenuous especially if you take the loop around the lake which is what I did. As someone who is handicapped this was way more than what I should have done and I paid the price for about 5 days afterwards. However on the other hand is it this is a beautiful Park and I would recommend it for anyone who is able to do lots of heli type of terrain
We enjoy hiking here, but parking SUCKS.
Good place to go hiking with friends and family
Nice place for hiking.
Beautiful trails and intense workout
