Very informative and historical place for the whole family. The staff were dressed up in the old days when the early 1800 settler era and provided many insights to the livelihoods in that time. This place have horses, chickens, and carriages and blacksmith. You can tour a typical home of the west and they will show you how they prepare their food. There are plenty of crafts for the kids and you can also try roping a bull with a cowboy laso.
Very beautiful homestead with nice museum area with artifacts found in the property. The museum has great information and personal details from life traveling along the Oregon and Sante Fe Trails including excerpts from diaries. Historically accurate chickens and sheep and pigs near the house. Lots of hands-on activities for children to do as well.
Fantastic wild west days. Took daughter and bunch of grandkids. They had a blast learning about the 1800s. They rode a real stagecoach, branded some leather, panned for gold, listened to magic shows, pet oxen, lassoed bulls, got to see soldier and cowboy camps and a gun slinging battle. Highly recommended.
We had so much fun visiting all of the animals and the museum was interesting
I stopped by to check the place out as keep seeing the sign on the interstate. Expected a small building with a sign. I was surprised that it was a large interactive museum with real stage coach rides and the old farm house and buildings.Recommend a stop here to get a bit of old history and a stagecoach ride around the property. Plan to spend several hours to take it all in.When I was there they were having a special day for school children. A lot of demonstrations and people dressed in period clothing. Was a great experience, so glad I finally decided to stop and check it out.
This was a fun stop for adults and kids alike. Lots of animals and interactive opportunities. Staff and volunteers made the visit super special for the children.
Great staff took great care of is and really patient with my worry getting into stage coach.thank you
Since its winter, not all the buildings were open, but we had tons of fun anyway! When we come back in summer, well probably have to put a whole day aside. We are a family of history buffs, so we loved it!! Plus the animals were friendly and many came over to the fences, so we got to say hello and pet them.
This was a wonderful experience. My students loved their field trip!
This is a really cool and historical place. We were able to take an old fashioned stage coach ride around the property and interact with the living history volunteers. The little lady blacksmith was awesome.
Lorna was amazing to work with. Even though we did not have our wedding here because of COVID-19, she was willing to work with us and offered her support in every way she could. Thank you guys so much!!
We visited here for Homeschooling day. They had lots of experiments and activities for the kids to do as well as demonstrations. From old time photography, old fashion games, baking bread, making home made soda drinks & creating electricity. They stage coach ride was fun for the kids too.
Interesting place. The stage coach ride was an educational experience. Its hard to appreciate the Transcontinental Railroad without understanding that stagecoaches used to be the main form of transportation.
Thought this was a great place but do not like their business practices,. In a state emergency they will not refund your money if you happen to back an event with them. Will definitelynot support this business again.
A great place to just stop and enjoy the horses with your little ones.
I went here as a child and to come back 12 years later to share this history with my wife meant so much to me!
Excellent field trip but I am not sure I will make the trip a second time since it is so far from home.
This place is so neat! And Michael (one of our tour guides) was an absolute riot! Had a great time with a group of school kids. Cant wait to take the rest of my family!
Wandered in here randomly and loved it! Every single person working was friendly, interactive, helpful, and had depth of knowledge!
Great informative exhibits. Living history employees were very unfriendly
Went to a wedding, nice setup
Great to learn about the historical significance of the stage coach stop. Get one of the guided tours if possible. The actors in period appropriate clothing and speech really help spring the visit to life.
Fascinating and very well preserved historical site. Very kid-friendly, excellent field trip idea. Staff and historical reenactors were friendly and knowledgeable, the exhibits and historic structures were interesting and detailed, and the farm animals were numerous and docile. I greatly enjoyed our visit.
This is a beautiful venue for a smaller wedding. It was very clean and well kept. The fireplace added a homey feel that was just perfect.
So MUCH FUN! This location and all that it offers is just astounding! There is deep rooted history here and it truly comes alive! Def kid and family friendly!! We cant wait to come back
Lots of fun for the kids! Janetta is very friendly and knowledgeable. The stagecoach is always fun!
Loved it! I had my wedding here and it was beautiful! The weather was perfect for all the pictures. The staff was great and very helpful in making my day as wonderful as felt that day. ️️
Stage couches and houses and reinactments are so real.
Really enjoyed the experience. Had a blast at the Christmas Open House! Loved the Stagecoach ride
You must see if you truly love early American History. Great place.
The family and I loved the place and its kid friendly to
Great venue for events! I attended a wedding here a few weeks ago and it was beautiful. The inside has a modern-industrial look however great for staging an event. Earlier in the day, the stagecoach was taking guests for a ride. I will be back to see the museum soon!
Hosting our Holiday party here this year. Lorna is great to work with, The Venue will be decorated perfectly for the holidays.
Great place to explore and visualize history. We went to their family fun night 1860s fireworks. It was a blast! Definitely will be coming back!
Every little girl dreams about her wedding day and mine came true!! The Heritage Center at The Mahaffie was EVERYTHING and more I couldve asked for in a venue. From the moment we walked in, the front office was kind and helpful and up to the very day when they helped to ensure a beautiful event space! One of the reason I loved the Heritage Center was not only for the ambiance but location and ease. I loved (and so did my soon to be mother-in-law ...) that we could visit any time to get a feel for the space and run through how we wanted the day to be. I also loved the fact that this venue allows you to have the ceremony AND reception all in one location! We had our ceremony on the south lawn and it was absolutely stunning followed by cocktail hour under the covered patio and reception inside! Lorna sat down with myself, my future in laws and our wedding coordinator to determine how we wanted everything set up for the day of. It was nice knowing the team at the Heritage Center sets up the tables and chairs for indoor reception and outdoor ceremony, all we had to do was bring in our imagination and decorations! They allowed us to bring in any and all decorations from lighting, centerpieces, eucalyptus chandeliers and even a couch/chairs for a sitting area outside! I loved the flexibility of this venue. I would highly recommend them, they helped my dream wedding to become reality and it will be a day we forever remember... Thank you to the amazing team at The Heritage Center!!
Went for a family wedding. A beautiful venue and the volunteers/ staff are wonderful to work with
What a great Sunday afternoon outing, even on a blazing hot day. My husband and I loved this historical site. All the the folks here are dressed in period clothing and offer detailed information about each aspect of this farm and its historical significance. This was so much fun we will absolutely be back this fall when it’s cooler and see how the seasons change the landscape here. Oh and the stage coach ride was the cherry on top!If you have not been yet this is a MUST SEE! Great for all ages.
Really cool place in the heart of Olathe. The staff do a fantastic job of educating and incorporating the children into the tasks they are doing. Highly recommend for recent American history buffs.
My 11 year old daughter, I have never enjoyed history as much as I did right now. This place was amazing! We were a family of 4. We watched the hitching and road a wagon. We went to the blacksmith, our kids got to hammer on a wagon wheel and learned about a stagecoach blacksmith. Barb was in the kitchen cooking on a 1800 stove. She invited us to help her. My kids 6 and 11 helped make gooseberry fritters. She made my husband and I coffee, using an egg as a filter like they did then. It was fascinating and so hands on. We went on July 3 and there were young kids and a mom volunteering. They taught us Graces, stilt walking, and other games from the times. This is an absolute must if you are in the Kansas City area! Check the website for daily activities.
Historically beautiful it was a wedding and the leaves were falling in the sunlight. There was fly over as she came down the isle...it was amazing!!!
Awesome good fun!
Pretty cool attraction. Check out their event calendar and go during a special event to get more bang for your buck!
What a well-taken care of historical farm! It was quiet when we went but the interpreters were knowledgeable and very friendly! We enjoy the stagecoach ride, grinding feed corn, listening to and watching to the blacksmith and more.
Great staff. A fun field trip.
Nice place for kids.
A lot of fun. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. 1880 fireworks were fun
Wonderful environment! Staff are so incredibly friendly
If you are looking for something different to do, this is a fun and educational tour. And I might also add that the food is delicious!
Brought my son here for the 4th of July and he loved it. Im not sure how indicative this was of a normal day but they day was great and my son had a terrific time.
Great place to go back in time ..... beautiful facility and lots of history.
The staff was very friendly and engaging. We really enjoyed our visit. I love how much they interact with children and get them involved. They made my daughters feel as if they were the only children in the world with all of their attention.
Daughter s reception was held near there. Great venue
Amazing experience and friendly people that show the history of the stagecoach
My daughter and her class had the best time here on their field trip!
Great staff and reasonable prices
So much fun. Loved learning things about the 1800s.
Went with my sons 4th grade class school field trip and had a blast.
My fathers wedding was held here. Beautiful building and great photo locations just outside. We even got a couple workers to take pictures with us, even though they were off the clock!
It is so different than when I went many years ago. But looking forward to enjoying axtivities
Great place to visit and learn about the history of the town/county.
Took my 6 yo grand daughter and we really enjoyed our visit. There was so much to look at and the staff was amazing. They immediately got her involved in games and had her hold a chicken and pet some young chicks. It was a great time. We are already talking about our next visit.
Fun learning experience for kids. Love the classes they offer.
So much fun... teaching the young kids about how to do things before machines!!
Mahffie is a remarkable step back into time that includes the story of an astute 1850s frontier businessperson.
Beautiful setting that allows an amazing look into Midwest history.
Very knowledgeable interpreters, friendly staff, and a beautiful farm. Excellent place to learn about a working farm and stage coach stop from a bygone era. Dont miss out on the opportunity of a stage coach ride, seeing a blacksmith at work, helping with farm chores, interacting with farm animals, watching the cook stove demonstration, and playing games! If you come to Olathe. ..make sure to stop at Mahaffie!
This park is fun for a variety of family activities, with a fun climbing oriented playground and lots of shade for watching adults. We also enjoy the paved one mile walking trail around the scenic pond with nice landscaping and fountains. Children who love to climb will love the oak trees with low hanging branches.
Great place. We visited here with the Boy Scout troop
I loved this place. The sample we ate from the kitchen was home made back on the days a taste of goodness...the coach ride was pretty interested im not to found of horses but I learned a little about them, thanks to my grandkids who were asking questions ...we visited the place where the young woman was explaining of how the horseshoe was put on the horse just like we wear shoes too..my grandkids petted some baby chicks...but what I liked the most was the well water my grandkids got to experience it them selfs filling a bucket of water.they helped water the garden those had so much fun.we got to see how clothing was washed back then...how they dyed the eggs in a kettle with some nuts and flower.we also petted this big friendly sheep ...we went in a two story house which was lovely I enjoyed the boys room and parents room ...the woman who was baking on an old stove that was bakingsome bread in it .... pulse the little museum we saw first before paying to enter. it was amasing to see all those tools which was used a very long time ago ... pretty interesting to watch a video they had there to explain to how it was back in time...i really enjoyed it there Im going to come back again its a great place to just watch and relax
Had fun very cool but we had gotten, 6 inches .So slay rides, snowman kids playing, sliding down the hills and having a wonderful Sunday afternoon
I went over to meet my grandkids who were in town for a field trip. I had so much fun!! Its not just for kids!
This place was great! They were working the farm today, the people were so knowledgeable about the history of the farm and the stagecoach, it was a great way to spend the afternoon.
Awesome experience! Very interactive and entertaining. Not in your face but very informative, educational and inclusive of all visitors. Looks like employees love their job.
Love the animals staff is nice very kid friendly with lots to see for yourself and children
This is a working farm, with folks in period costumes explaining everything there. Cool blacksmith demo. Beautiful horses there. Nice place. Friendly staff.
Awesome place to learn about local history!
We were the only people there but it was cold and it was a weekday. They gave us the same tour as larger groups. When we were leaving a gentleman describing himself as the volunteer coordinator stopped us and asked my 4 year old if hed like to help feed the pigs. What a thrill for him to heave hamburger buns and lettuce over the fence.
Went on a field trip. Nice property, well maintained. Move staff.
We love this place! They make you feel at home and its very affordable! We went on a homeschool day and we paid $5 per student. Everyone is always very kind and the workers are very funny! Definitely a great place for a day away from home
Here to shoot a wedding. Nice place. All the windows let in a good amount of light for some great pictures. I did not have to deal with any staff, so my rating is for only being there as a photographer. Setup nicely, bathrooms were nearby and clean, and an outdoor patio area to get some air
Lots of history. Very knowledgeable and friendly. If you are looking for a piece of pioneer past you can share with your kids and family you came to the right place. Will defiantly visit again.
Great place for an event! Unique and just the right size
We loved it here. It was hot the day we went, we will definitely be going back!
Great day in another time! Something for all ages! Wish we had gone a long time ago, plan to go ba k soon!
A nice little place for history in action.
Spent the 4th of July there. Very traditional celebration including the reading of the declaration. My three year old loved every minute of it
Excellent historical facility, usually has something to do and is especially fun around Christmas. Many activitys offered that my family enjoys doing during the holidays.
Awesome place to check out! My brother and his wife got married here. Staff was amazing and super helpful. Highly suggested for events
Can I live here? Please take your kids, especially to Wild West Days and other events!
Nice place. Niece had her wedding here and it was beautiful.
Peaceful place to be which gives you a hint of olden days and a reminder to pause todays busy lives. Excellent views and a wonderful place to take kids. Farm, farm animals, wooden fence, unpaved trail...many memories forever to cherish. Take a trip its so worth it.
A very nice place to have a family wedding
Many things were closed on day I was there, Monday. If you were raised in the country, you might be disappointed since it is basically a farm.
Great time for the family.
We always enjoy visiting Mahaffie. Its a great place to experience living history of Olathe and the U.S.
Give yourself 2-3 hours here. Even if youve got young kids theyll more than likely be fascinated about how people lived before the internet. Before you hit the farm & stagecoach itself, make sure to take a walk through the museum. Its small, informative, and it has some interactive exhibits that will keep the kids on your side. Once youre done there go ride your stagecoach, go tour your farm, see the animals, and see what life was like in a previous century. It will be well worth your time to go back in time. Time & time again. Sorry, thats all - I promise. At least for this time.
Had great time; I love the history. Took my parents who live in Olathe. And because they live in Olathe we got a $2/ticket discount.
Great place to bring the family
