When I heard about this place I was told it is a cowboy museum. WOW! It is so much more!! $12.50 for admission is well worth it!! It is SO much bigger than it looks like from the outside. It closea at 5 but I overheard an employee telling another guest that theyve never chased anyone out that was there past 5. The art exhibits are amazing!! There are life size models of cowboys with amazing detail. The outside exibit has old western buildings as well as Native American replica dwellings. If youre in Oklahoma City this is an absolute must!!!
This museum is so much more than advertised! There are indoor and outdoor activities and exhibits. They have made it fun for the kids by including a mystery spy glass to decode certain exhibits. The realistic life size old west town is so fun. The outdoor dwellings were very nice too. Overall, it was a great experience!
This is one of the best museums I’ve ever been too. The exhibitions show all facets of the west, and the history is truly represented. The outside examples of Native American homes are super cool, and allow you to see a part of how they lived. We were lucky to go during the art exhibition, and the quality and quantity were a sight to behold. I would recommend this museum to anyone and everyone.
Super amazing place with amazing art, sculpture, statues, and garden. This place is like a museum for the cowboy and western American culture. Very nicely displayed art and artifacts in a museum setting. In the back is a garden with statues and indigenous Americans housing examples. Very nicely done. The price to get in is a bit high but worth it.
A very cool museum to visit if you get the chance. We didnt have time to see all of it, but its full of cowboy and western art, as well as lots of equipment from around the late 1800s and early 1900s. They even have a fake town you can stroll through and see all the different traditional buildings and gear. We went for an event and they had an awesome conference hall with great sound and art in it.
Amazing museum! One of the best Ive been to in all the states Ive traveled to. Its a museum but it encompasses so much more than history. Great displays and great collection of items from films, land, cultures and events. Outside is a nice setup with plenty of space and open air. The statuses, art, and tributes are all well kept and amazing to see. Inside is spotless clean! A nice gift shop at the entrance/exit with good selection of gift ideas. Would definitely recommend to any western/cowboy fan!
Amazing campus. Progressive curating. Fun shop. Very positive, uplifting experience even if you arent a cowboy or West aficionado. Exhilarating of you are.
This is probably the best museum Ive ever visited. Completely blown away by the art pieces on display. Many of which can be purchased. I arrived a little late and only had 3 hours to look at all there is to see. Do yourself a favor. Expect to spend a full day here, if you want to really see everything and have time to appreciate it. The staff were fantastic.
This place was so cool! Theres an art gallery with paintings and sculptures for sale and they are BEAUTIFUL! I could look at just a single of those paintings for over an hour. There was a lot of interesting history about Native Americans, coybows (real and movie), rodeo and ranches, and barbed wire!! Theres a lot more too!
The people here were very informative and polite, please go and marvel in the beauty and out history.
Most awesome collection of everything Cowboy and Cowgirl related stuff you can imagine! They even have an exhibition that salutes the Cowboys of the world! Great job yall!!! I was very impressed!!!
Very neat and fun museum. They do insist that you wear the commie mask. Folks running it are very friendly.
Would Highly recommend. This was one of the best Museums I have ever been to. This Museum is HUGE and has an outside area to view as well as inside. This place is so huge you can definitely get lost. You will definitely need to set aside about 2 hours as there is so much to see.
Amazing museum. Much more than paintings and sculptures. The outdoor displays were great. Our favorite part was the movie/tv stars.
Some great exhibits. Lots of things for adults and what looked like a few activities for kids. The amenities are a little sparse for such a large building but there may have been more in the outdoor exhibits that I didnt visit.
Really cool museum. Features egret from great art installations, to paintings, to historic pieces and items, from real cowboys and pioneers and native Americans of the old west to Hollywood and Tv cowboys.Super glad we stopped in to check it out.
Such an awesome museum. My kids age 6 and 2 love coming here and seeing all the beautiful art. They recently put in a large outdoor play area
This is one of my favorite places to go to get some peace. I love the old western town exhibition. And recently I saw the Andy Warhol is the West exhibit. It was so cool and interesting! The gift shop is a great place for gifts too. They have everything you could need for a cool unique western gift!
Well done, inside and out. Lots of history and beautiful works.
It was simply amazing, the kids had fun and it was not only fun and educational for them but for me aswell.
This place is a national treasure! We easily spent two hours but it could have been more. So much I didnt know. John Wayne, Roy Rogers, Cowboy in Harlem.. very interesting!
Lots of History and exhibits inside. Spacious atmosphere. You can take a tour or go off on your own, which we did. We loved the self pace of it. A Beautiful place to visit.
Amazing art on display. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They have taken great measures to go with social distancing and keeping everyone safe. Lots of exhibits geared to kids. Its a must see if you are in the area.
Love the place. Like they say the west starts inside all of us. Its a way of life we all should be proud of
Top place to visit in OKC!! This museum houses fantastic objects detailing the history of Western Heritage. The museum has WAY more than I expected: intricate leather saddles, paintings, dioramas, contemporary Western references hallway, a bullfighting wing, a model Western village you can walk through with mock shops, Western Art award room with contemporary art winners, beautiful gardens, friendly staff, and a great gift shop filled with high-quality interesting items. Don’t miss this place!
Truly beyond all expectations. On our two days trip to Oklahoma, we were pondering over places we wanted to visit to get maximum out of our stay. We chose this place and it was worth. The presentation, collections, and meticulous placement are too good. I think it is a must visit specially if you have school going kids.
This is an amazing museum! So much information about a part of our countrys incredible history. We concentrate so much on what Hollywood puts out about that time in our history that we miss the incredible true facts about the West. If you ever get a chance, dont miss this place! They just added an exterior part to the museum, and its even more fantastic this year. JUST GO...you wont be sorry!
My husband and I have been wanting to come here for a long time. I didnt know they had The Museum Grill inside or we wouldve eaten here. It smelled good. We spent about 3 hours looking at all the pictures, sculptures, paintings and artifacts. I really enjoyed Prosperity Junction, it was like actually being in an old western town. The American Rodeo Gallery and old west wagons, and props you can climb into to take photos with were great also. Its amazing how detailed the sculptures are and the figurines looked like they could come alive and move. Beautiful works of art around every corner. I know we missed a lot and we didnt go outside to see the gravesites, that will have to be another time. We did do some shopping in the gift shop. This is a wonderful museum and great for all ages to come.
Awesome. Huge. Thought, eh, will be a 1 hour thing. Could have spent the whole day there. Great indoor and outdoor exhibits. The employees could not have been nicer
Friendly docents. Wonderful museum, art gallery.
So much more than we expected. Have to come back to see all we missed and there was so much we did see. Activities for kids throughout so adults can enjoy the art and history. We recommend more than two hours to get completely immersed!
What a great museum. An excellent way to cover cowboy and western heritage. Fantastic larger than life sculptures both inside and outside the building. At least three different short movies that allow you to rest while being entertained. There was one about rodeos and their history, one about movies of the West, one about jewelry making, and one narrated by Tom Selleck about how the West was won. Lots of paraphernalia, paintings, movie posters, dioramas, etc. They recreated an old Western town complete with bank, dentist/doctor office, saloon, church.. about 20 buildings. AND they had a temporary exhibit about Warhol and the West. Dont miss the tryptics by Wilson Hurley in their banquet room. Since I lived decades in Albuquerque, I enjoyed his tryptic of the Sandia mountains.
Amazing! Im going back when I have more time to spend. The art is incredible and the historical exhibits are awesome.
Love this place! The displays are very interesting and they have an outdoor exhibit area.
I use to come here as a kid for school trips as I am a local.I never really appreciated it!It’s amazing! You need to give yourself 2 hours and comfortable shoes. We had sandwiches at the snack bar and it was great. As an employee for a school I got in 1/2 price.
We had fun exploring all the new stuff in the museum. We havent been for a few years. I was surprised to see the new expansion outdoors. It was really awesome to be able to explore the new dwellings that were built and learn more about that. As always the artwork is amazing. We also had fun trying to find Tims coffee mug
So many indoor and outdoor things that are really creative and beautiful. The outdoor exhibits were really well done.
Very interesting museum, much more than just cowboys . The whole Midwest/Western way of life is explored from both the native and settler perspective. Check and see how much of the museum is open, several large galleries were closed during our visit. Still worth the time and effort.
We have been here several times love this place. Every time someone new comes to visit we take them here and its always a good time.
Fantastic museum! The art and displays were stunning and informative. Definitely going back soon to see more!
We went to the Homeschool Day at the museum and had a blast! I love the Noble Conference Room with the large paintings. They always take my breath away. We loved Prosperity Junction and walking around the town! Gave us a real sense of the Old West! There were very friendly docents, one who lead us on a tour of the Native American exhibits. My kids learned so much today!
Unbelievable!! My favorite here is the large sculpture known as the “ END OF THE TRAIL” reminiscent of the TRAIL OF TEARS”. The entire place is full of wonderful western and cowboy history!
Is good to know about History of United States of America definitely love this place. I’d like to come back pretty soon
We found it a worthwhile road trip stop. Too much for one visit so ask guidance on where to start.
Like so many, I was drawn into the The Cowboy by the museum’s social media account run by the now famous Tim the Security Guard. What a great museum that interprets the history of the West in such a beautiful way. I thoroughly enjoyed the well thought out exhibits and the beautiful paintings they have in their collection. I highly suggest timing your visit with the Prix de West. I was impressed with the dynamic artwork chosen for the sale. And the diversity of artists. A great mix of Native American history as well as America’s Manifest Destiny. I especially enjoyed Prosperity Junction which is a replica of a town during the United States expansion. Again, the detail and layout of the exhibits is perfectly thoughtful. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Oklahoma City. #HashtagTheCowboy
So child friendly! The little ones had a great time in the outdoor play place!

Excellent place! First time here, very informative.
Fun experience for my granddaughter she love the Indian stuff.
Just amazing something for Everyone. So incredibly diverse and interesting.
Amazing facility! You need an entire day to really take in all this place has to offer. Give yourself plenty of time; youll be disappointed if you dont get to see everything.
I loved this place. I had not been since I was younger. A lot of changes and things added. Really enjoyed the outside area and the inside Western town. I took my 3 grands, they all 3 loved it. I highly recommend.
Two great reasons to visit OKC. This exceptional historical cowboy and cowgirl museum and the National Museum.
Had a blast with my 5 year old today. Love the new outdoor space!
Really excellent museum with interesting exhibits and beautiful art!
A great exhibit covering historic western expansion, life on the ranch or drive... horsemanship- competitive and practical... military life in the cavalry days... movies and actors involved with western genre....and western art. An interactive area is good for kids. An extensive facility with something for anyone who is a fan of the west, horses, rodeo, or art.
So much to see so little time. Ill love to go back again next time Im in OKC. I didnt have much time the last time cz my friend had a plane to catch but what we seen was really cool
Came to Oklahoma as a tourist and I saw this place and I really recommend it. Michael was so great he walked us around and explain to me and my husband what we were looking atHe was super friendly you can walk around and see the things on display but you get so much more out of it if you let the guys that work there explain to you the pieces! I give a 5/5 because the staff made the experience even better!!
Love the museum and love the events that they have here! The food has always been great and we have come here for several events as well as on Mothers Day for lunch and a great time in the garden and throughout the museum. Some of the paintings are so amazing! The staff and guides have always been so helpful, friendly, and you can tell that they love what they do! The End of Trails statue is so breath taking! You really need to come and give this place a visit, you wont be disappointed! There is a really neat western town with a jail, church, and doctors office. There is also a great place for kids to play! The gardens are well maintained and so much fun to walk through! We have been so many times and still see things we havent seen before. Love the outfits from the old westerns. Even writing this review I think of things that I had forgotten or want to add! Love it!
The place is large, has a lot to look at and see. Make sure you have a couple of hours at a minimum to make it to all the different areas. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable which made the experience even better. Will definitely be back to check it out again.
Very well done and HUGE; plan at least 3 hours.
A very well-done museum...and IT’S FREE! Several exhibits filling many rooms. And there were lots of interactive [photo op, coloring, crafty] experiences for both adults and kids. There’s a movie theater with a movie that plays at 1pm daily (with free popcorn). Great gift shop too!
So much art! Much larger than I expected. Id say, at least 3 hours should be planned. Worth a visit if youre passing through the central hub of America!
Was really fun! Had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the artwork and exhibits.
We love the Cowboy Museum! Its always top of my kids list of fun things they like to do around town. Its also a Blue Star museum during the summer months, and a perfect place to get out of the house, but still enjoy some a/c. My boys always go decked out in all their western gear, and have a blast being Cowboys for the day.
It was an experience so much better than I imagine it would be... Kid friendly. Very organized and clean. The statues are amazing as well as the portraits. And its really HUGE. You could really learn some pretty amazing interesting history here. I learned a lot while enjoying it.
This is a really great museum of the North American West, with exhibits for indigenous peoples as well as the pioneers and cowboys and cowgirls that laid the foundation for the iconic part of American history.
Wonderful Art work with new and old artists. Interesting history, beautiful gardens!
I LOVE ANYTHING HISTORY, ESPECIALLY WESTERN HISTORY!My family ranched Cattle on the back side of Pikes Peak at the turn of the century (Im a Daughter of Colorado)...so I appreciate hard work! Not many do and in the times were in, itll show who has TRUE GRIT!Im doing this review because I saw the article on Tim, great gig for him right now. Awesome place to go and enjoy your family.
The staff was very helpful in pointing out where to go first and very knowledgeable of the exhibits on display. Plan at least 2-3 hours if you really want to see and read everything. Take some time to go outside and check out the trees planted as they are all different and native to the US.
What a great museum! We were greatly impressed! Great place for kids!
A must! Made a weekend trip, One of the highlights the national cowboy museum was a very unique and informative museum to say the least.
Very cool museum with so much history to offer. Much bigger and more to see than expected!
Well worth the stop. The Trails End statue really stands out. The artwork is beautiful, we recommend stopping and spending a few hours here.
Great museum to visit! Awesome for events! Wonderful gift shop! Plus we all love TIM!!
Lots of fun! Love the recreation of an old western town. Great place for pictures.
We love museums and we enjoy learning about history so this was a fantastic place to learn about the history of the cowboy, cowboy culture, and some about our native American heritage. They had some stunning photography and paintings, as well as some interactive exhibits for children. Throughout a good portion of the year they also offer free entry on Wednesdays!
This is really a wonderful place to go. There is so much history here of our nation. And what better place to have it than in Oklahoma! Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. The art there is really something to behold. I have very little interest normally in art but this was different. It really was great. Such wonderful scenery in the paintings. Besides art there is so much about the west here as well. It’s basically an untold story of cowboys and the west and the museum does a perfect job of explaining that history. Definitely a place to take your out-of-town friends and even go yourself if you’re a local. Guaranteed, you will learn something new.
We love this museum! It is beautiful and very western feel like place. It is a perfect place for family, friends, and kids. Restrooms are clean and staff very friendly! We love all the areas. This is the perfect place to experience life the way out past generations used to live. There is a little bit of everything from history. From cowboys, Native Americans, past ways of living, rodeos, and more. I recommend this miseum!
Everything Cowboy! Lots of western art and sculpture. Old westerns and stars. They even have a full size old western town. You can spend hours here and not get bored if this is your cup of tea.
Amazing artifacts. Children friendly, food was awesome. Hospitality was superb. Very nice setup. Attended the Allegiance Federal Credit Union 56 Annual Meeting. I would recommend this establishment. Overall had a great time.
Very interesting museum filled with beautiful sculptures, paintings and historical displays covering any and everything about cowboys and the old west. If your kids think cowboys are like those in the movies, take them here and theyll see it like it really was-but theyll also see some of their favorite cowboy actors-like my favorite, Festus. Well maintained, clean and comfortable, you dont have to get in a hurry. Senior admission was $7.00.
I dont know exactly what I was expecting for this museum but I was completely blown away. The museum itself is huge so plan a couple hours or longer. Theres everything from beautiful oil paintings to native American regalia to anything and everything that has to do with cowboys. I learned a lot and had a great time.
Loved the artwork. Great displays of the west, old movie stars and the start of barrel racing for women.
$12.50 admission. Plan on all day. I spent 4 hours and had to really rush to finish before they closed. If you like to read signs explaining artifacts, you will definitely need the full day. Huge area filled with movie memorabilia, huge rodeo area filled with original artifacts, John Waynes personal collection, a recreated full-sized town - theres a LOT of stuff.
I visited along with my kiddos class field trip; we enjoyed it and would like to go back when we have more time to appreciate everything
Woody, Jessie and Bullseye were riding a stage in the first hallway. This is a great place to take kids. Teach them our recent past and they will be better equipped to build the future. Sit in a stagecoach, walk the boardwalks in an old west TOWN! They are adding on! It is only going to get better. If you havent been, shame on you. It is an Oklahoma jewel.
One of the best museums we have ever visited! We could have spent a lot more time here. Great displays. We highly recommend this museum!
Tons of things to see! Amazing collection of history and culture. Lots of art on display. My whole family enjoyed visiting this place so much that we ran out of time before getting to view everything. To top it off, its free!
Very nice exhibits. The staff was very knowledgeable. My 3 and 5 year olds got bored quick, but the rest of us enjoyed it.
Great, the old town was wonderful, really brought history alive. I cant wait to see the outside part. The park is very nice.. dont miss it!
This was one of my favorite places for that trip. Lots and lots of information and unique exhibits. You can typically spend half to one complete day here. Lot of paintings, pictures, models, cultural stuff about old west.
Very well designed museum. Coukd you add recycling bins inside the museum??
This museum displays a mixture of art, history, and artifacts that can be enjoyed by anyone. I especially enjoyed the statues and the saddles.
This place is amazing! I’m so impressed by the size of the statues. It felt more real. It’s like history came alive. I highly recommend checking this place out. I wish I could have stayed longer, but will definitely go back.
For all the people who are cowboys fans this is a must visit place. It has a lot of information about cultures, movies, history, kids can play and learn. You can even buy some of the things there. Huge and cool museums.
We had so much fun! There is so much to do and learn at the Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. I highly suggest planning a full day. There is food there or you can pack a lunch. They have indoor and outdoor exhibits.
A gem in OKC! The amount and quality of exhibits was worthy of spending a few hours out of our tight schedule.
