The buildings at Heritage Park were closed when we visited. We didnt read all of the information. But we were able to walk around and look. If you are into California history, you will like the park. There are old timey buildings and artifacts. As we walked, we happened upon a opened door. There were two guys inside working on replicas of trains, and the communities that depended on them. There were mountains, tunnels, towns and industrial structures. The guys talked with us a while. One guy was all business and the other one had some jokes. There is parking inside and a small lot outside. There isnt street parking, at least, none that we could see.It is free to visit.
My kids enjoyed our field trip here! This is the second time weve gone, and they accept donations which makes this a relatively inexpensive field trip, which is nice. The couple who runs the field trips is kind, although the woman seemed rather forgetful and would sometimes repeat stuff. Parts of it were really boring for kids, and I feel like they could give less information with more interactive games or conversations. But the time in the train area was wonderful and the kids loved being able to do the trains themselves. They were so patient to make sure each child got a turn. They did this early into the field trip, which was good, as last time the kids didnt care by the time they got to the trains, when the order was reversed. The kids also liked playing musical chairs and loved being given ice cream! Clean, beautiful, wonderful look into history and so close to the mission, to also check out. Overall, for what we paid, it was much more than worth it. Are very thankful.
Special little step back into history in the center of the city. Old schoolhouse, and country style gazebo. The highlight is the mini railroad museums where you can become the conductor or take in all the details of the intricate scenes that have been carefully crafted. Great for kids and adults. Safe and room to roam a bit.
Its a great park we have a lot of happiness and When it hasnt been raining, the water in Spring Creek is pretty low. :(
Great out of the way park!
It is very interesting, I have been here 4 times and its open, but none of the shops are. I really wish they would tell you on the website when everything is open to explore, the shops and jail, and school house and gift shops. It would be nice if everything is open, not just the outside to explore.
I worked at the park last Saturday. I had a chance to look in the Blade building. I was amazed at the collection of printing equipment they had there. I talked a bit with Kathy, she was working there. It felt like home. I was raised in the printing industry and know how to operate most of the machines in there. Any one interested in how the media was made a hundred or so years ago, needs to take a look. This is a dying knowledge, not many folks know how to use these machines.
Nice historical buildings and museum. My complaint lies in the fact they changed the name of St. Ramos Church to St Raymonds. It was St Ramos when built; who didnt like the Spanish name. Thats our heritage in the Tri Valley. Graveyard has several of the rescue party from the Donner Party problems.
I really enjoyed it. Thought it was interesting and I learned a lot. Will go back for sure.
Great little park. Many of the smaller buildings were are original buildings moved there. The large bulding that includes the Livery and Model Railroad used to be a maintenance building for the city of Oceanside. They have occasional events there.
Quaint location for a outdoor gathering. Lots of open space but will need to bring own table and chairs if having a lot of people. Plenty of parking. Both lots very close to park.Museum was closed during visit.
Not quite sure what rating to give. Everything was closed because it was Sunday, I guess. The park itself is very small, with just a few buildings. You can walk it around in under five minutes. Not much to see.
I went there for pokemon, but I was surprised by this cool park next to the mission. They have a model train in the buildings that is quite good
Cute place! Closes early on weekdays.
Quaint little blast from the past. Neatly kept open area with historical buildings. If only the walls could talk. Do yourself a favor and spend an informative afternoon with a real sarine atmosphere.
Very nice little park. You have to visit the Model railroad.
The environment here is very good.
It has old buildings from the 1900s. Its a nice place, and its very educational.
Great. Unfortunately the grounds open not the buildings. Will go back during week so go inside the buildings.
We are from out of town and based on reviews, we came to this park. We were looking forward to seeing the model trains and the historical places. SO DISAPPOINTED!! The main gate is open, so technically the park is open. But every historical house is locked up with curtains drawn. Nothing to be seen at all!! And there isn’t a volunteer or caretaker anywhere to be seen either. Why have all of these historical houses with nobody here to show them?? Huge huge waste of time!! And my son is super disappointed. He really wanted to see the model trains.
Founded by my grandfather Ernest A. Taylor who was a City of Oceanside employee for 47 years. Im a docent here in honor of him. This is Historic Oceanside circa 1888-1910. Its a museum as well as a park and had a truly lovely setting. Come visit!
Really interesting little spot.
Plenty to do and see. Activities for kids, good food options, nice gift shops, museums, etc.
Its scenery is beautiful. a history of our city. My son got married here. so inviting. cant wait to bring my grandchildren to see the fun park, very educational.
Please. Old timer read the names. All the names. When you were a kid. Just go readem you Will understand
Concert in the park today
This is a cool place and our guide Pat was very nice and knowledgeable.
The historical buildings are closed except on the rare occasions when an event is held, but the model railroad club is open regularly.
Heritage Park Saturday Nov 4th 2017
Very cute and entertaining
Historical buildings have been relocated here. Small cemetery is adjacent to property
Used to go to Halloween event as kid was always fun
Heritage Park is a step back in time to the days of Oceansides founding. This unique park is a wonderful venue for parties or weddings but is also fun for a quick visit. Ice cream is sold on peak visitation days.
Heritage Park Museum. Thay have the original jail with 2 cells from 1900 or so. Thay have historical buildings and a amazing model train set (not a kids model train set) Thay hold music events, one time the guy that played guitar for Steve Miller Band was there
Perfect place to spread out in the grass and listen to music
Heritage Park reminds me of a small little town in the countryside. Its solely made-up of Historical Buildings, from the little school house, blacksmithing shop, and theres even an old newspaper business with the original old-fashioned printing press. They hold a variety of events throughout the year, which includes a Free Summer Concert Series, and others throughout the year.
A great place to bring the kids it also has a wonderful miniature railroad museum with a section for the kids to play with the actual trains in miniature.
Very cool place
Kind of slow moving and drabby. It could have Ben the day though, red willing to give it another shot.
Lots of historic buildings have been relocated to here. Once in a while they have Heritage Day where they open them to the public and have games, food, music, activities for the kids and demonstrations. Great family fun
Interesting to see the old buildings.
Heritage Park. I catered many weddings here
Brings you back in time. See the California train system model.
Cute little park with lots of historical buildings.
I was astounded with the friendlyness of the staff, and all the hard work they put into this park and the train set. Thank you for a leisurely afternoon!
