Fun shorter course. Leave your woods at home to make it more interesting of a track. Conditions pretty good for the price. Best logo in the game.
Has been awhile since I golfed at goat hill. Almost didnt recognize the place. The entire course is in good shape and the investment and hard work is paying off. Keep it up, your doing a great job for the regular guys to have a nice course.
Work in progress for sure. Ok course if you just want to work on your iron shots but doesn’t have much length at all. Course isn’t in the best shape and the layout is really weird. Won’t play here again.
Goat Hill is a short very hilly golf course with small greens. Plan on driving a cart as only the fittest golfers with a lot on endurance can attempt to walk the course. It has one PAR 5, but dont let the course length deceive you into thinking it is easy. The conditions are a bit rough (excuse the pun). Expect some hard pan and some extreme uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies. Add in the prevailing breeze and you have yourself a deceptively tricky and challenging little course.
I called and ask what time they were open until, I asked if there was room on the range. I got a yes. I drove 15 minutes and went to the pro shop and I got a “we are out of balls” you cant hit at the range
Awesome day at the goat friendly staff the grounds look fantastic!
Awesome value. Short course but bigger than an exec. Plenty of longer holes. It is a TOUGH walk so bring water or spring for a cart.
Wow, what a fun executive course with some great views!
Loved this place until now. Torn up, punched fairways and the charge full price. Actually they raised the prices. So unfortunate. From a local Oceanside resident!
Nice staff. Very challenging course. Target golf that is not forgiving. Not the course to better your Handicap. Still fun!
This place is literally in my backyard as I can see it from my backyard on Fire Mountain. It is a short course but many holes are very challenging. The biggest positive for me is how casual it is and that you can finish 18 in a couple of hours. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.
Cant set a tee time, keep getting put on hold and forgotten about. 3 times in a row now this has happened. Just wasted 45 minutes. Edit- called again and was put on hold again and hung up on. Over an hour spent for nothing. Going to Reidy Creek instead.
It is a fun and challenging course
I absolutely loved the place. I understood beforehand that it is a short course and that it doesnt purport to be anything upscale, so I wasnt expecting anything fancy.
This place has really come a long ways since the first time I played here! The new owner has really mad a huge change. This place is great now! Maintenance of the fairways and greens are fantastic! Layout of the holes is a little tricky to new comers, but once you play it a few times you get used to it!
Great little public golf course!
Fun and relaxed spot for golf.
This is a gem of a golf course and just because it is laid back and short doesnt mean that there is some serious golf being played. Bring your A game or you will have a long day. There is also another course within, mini golf. Tee stations 80 to 100 from the green hitting off matts. Very cool. Also for safety reasons your golf cart will turn off in certain places. The pro shop helped us activate it again. I like that feature since my brother sprays it and thinks golf carts are meant for off roading. Thank you and we will be back very soon.
Why. Fives and ones. Quirky course. If expect a country club then it is a one. Unbelievable terrain target golf many forced Carries. Golf greens undulating and tricky. A city course with limited budget return play required to fully enjoy
A special place! When I first arrived at Goat Hill, there was a little girl in the pro shop exchanging a bucket of balls for a couple bucks. Obviously some kind of discount program for juniors... Awesome! As I made my way around the golf course, I came across some good looking swings, some bad swings and plenty of disc golfers. Likewise, some folks wore slacks and collared shirts, others wore flip flops and a tank top.The golf course is up and down. It has to be the most wild terrain Ive ever seen for an short course... Yet still very walkable. Conditions are what you would expect at a Muni, aka, youll get plenty of Goat Hill lies. But the greens are perfect! This place is supported and ran by great visionaries of the game. Its a five star, must see type of place. Dont go to Goat Hill with the expectations of fancy amenities, perfectly manicured grass or snotty nosed golfers... Better yet, visit Goat Hill with zero expectations. Everyone is welcome here.Goat Hill is a special place that will be sure to leave a lasting impression on any golfer that visits
It is what it says it is, a park on a hill suitable for goats and its awesome. Short course, super fun, not hard, not easy, playable, walkable, doesnt take 5 to 6 hrs to play (3.25 for us), no annoying marshals, no overpriced food and beverage. Mini-Goat short tees for little kids to play is a sweet touch. Play in T-shirt or your nicest polo, it doesnt matter and they dont care. Pro shop staff is warm, welcoming, friendly, will give you a good ribbing as deserved. Im a single digit hardcore golf nut and have played several of the top 10 and top 100 courses in the world and I had just as much fun at Goat Hill as any of them. Yes it is scruffy, could use $1 million in additional maintenance but that is not the point of Goat Hill. A passion project of John Ashworth, LinkSoul, and partners who saved the course, this place is a celebration of public golf for the everyday working person. Colorful characters abound everywhere, a place to chill, be yourself, have fun playing or practicing with friends or on your own, what I call a beautiful disaster. 2 players walking $48 total on a Wednesday mid morning. They even gave me the resident rate on a light traffic day even though Im not from the area. Ill definitely be back, spend more $ on golf and merch. Thats how its done, golf for the people not for the prestige. I truly fell in love with Goat Hill. Thank you Johnny Ash.
I was in Oceanside on vacation and played at Goat Hill last week. I absolutely loved the place. I understood beforehand that it is a short course and that it doesnt purport to be anything upscale, so I wasnt expecting anything fancy. What I got was better. The atmosphere is totally laid back and inviting to all. The course is incredibly interesting and charming as it winds through the hills and valleys. It is also equal parts playable and challenging for the average golfer. Greens were in great shape. Cant wait to play there again the next time Im in Oceanside.
Had an awesome experience at the driving range today. David Emerick was so great with our 3 little kids. He brought us extra balls and went looking for little kid clubs. They and us had a blast. Awesome experience
This is a great course if you like teeing off next to the freeway and chipping out of the dirt!
Played GH this past weekend. Its quite a challenge, but surprisingly fair/rewarding at the same time. It makes you hit shots and eliminate trouble, something you rarely see from a course with such a good price, relaxed atmosphere. On top of it greens are tricky, fun, pure, and receptive. If you want the best challenge for your money, this is it. While at the same time its casual, beautiful views, efficient layout, make it enjoyable for anyone who is looking for a nice walk/ride in a park. The best place I can think of to sharpen your tools, without feeling like it took 5hr, or cost your left arm to play. Ill be back! Inspiring to see what theyve done to it...#Impressed
Well maintained. Good job staff
Very interesting course. Im not sure Ive ever played one like it, actually. Its just plain odd. Now, thats not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, I think most will find it enjoyable. But there are several holes seem very poorly laid out. And there were a couple of holes that I had no idea where I should be aiming. All in all, a fun, memorable course, but there are many better ones of similar length in the area to choose from.
Very unique course! I havent played here in years and heard they made a bunch of changes. Bring your A game! The course defines target golf. Grass? Only in spots you should be landing your ball. Forced carries off almost every tee and postage stamp, undulating, greens. Navigating the course, with its wild terrain, is almost as fun as playing it! I will be back very soon.
Ive been golfing here for more than 20 years and I can tell you its special. If youre looking for a well-manicured course with a dress code this is not for you. If you want a relaxing environment with challenging holes then this is your place. This place is legendary for some unforgiving hazards and down to earth people, absolutely great place to golf
Beautiful driving range (hitting of grass)! Fun course but best of all just a great place to be.
Our family likes goat hill. A good place for kids to take lessons, hit balls and quick game.
I love this place. Id like to thank everyone who worked to save it, especially John Ashworth. If you havent played this course, come on out, tee it up and give it a go.
If you are looking for a fun and challenging course, you found it. The staff is great, the course condition is not perfect, but they are constantly improving. I only wish I had more time to play.
What a fun place! Super-friendly staff too. Wasnt very crowded and the course was in good shape. Holes were mostly in the 280 - 300 range but because of the hills, it was very challenging. Greens were in great shape as well. I bought a Groupon but their regular rates are very reasonable. Highly recommend.
Fun course good shape and will test your short game no matter what handicap you have.
I couldn’t agree more with this Carter guy below me. I also played this past weekend and left completely #impressed. With a horrifying case of the hosel shanks, I was able to see the entirety of the golf course and it’s clear that the new owners payed attention to every detail of the course design and architecture. This course makes you hit true and calculated golf shots, which I really would’ve enjoyed if I hadn’t sweated over the thought of hitting sniping shanks every time I looked over the golf ball. The pinnacle of the course’s design, however, were the greens. Goat Hill’s greens roll so pure that I’d even venture to call them saucy. Add in the low price, fun atmosphere and good walk, and I think you can truly call this place the GOAT.
I read about this course a few years ago and got the opportunity to play while visiting my son in camp pendleton. Yes, you can see the course has been severely under managed for many years and you can see where the new ownership is working hard to make it better. Having said that, if you take the course for what it is, you will also see a great course design. I hope the managers running this course get to see the entire project through.
Positive: Very friendly staff, Not Crowded, Decent price, Grass Driving range and reasonably pricedNegative: Maintenance was very low. Fairways were bare dirt or patchy dying on several holes, greens were rough and patchy as well. Some of the cups would come out of hole when trying to pull flag. Conclusion: Course layout is very interesting and challenging with good amount of elevation changes. Course has been around for a long time but seem a to show a lack of maintenance over that time period. Otherwise decent value would recommend for driving range or if grounds and greens were better kept.
Great location, beautiful grounds and challenging play. Walking the green is the only way to go!
Very challenging un-forgiving short course. If you love a challenge and can hit consistently accurate this is ur place.
By far the worst golf course Ive ever played. Ive played on courses throughout the east coast. This course is a joke. Total dump.... better off turning it into a landfill...
Great place for some disc golf! Very long side open course.
Overall this golf course was decent. Staff was nice but very unprofessional, taking 5min to even realize I walked in the pro shop. The driving looked very nice and they have a nice short range and putting green. The 18 hole course itself was VERY CONFUSING. Half the holes are brown and very under kept. You almost need gps and a map to navigate their hole to hole directions. Many cart paths intersect and share the same hole. This also almost qualifies as an executive course, most par 4 greens are very easy to drive to. There was at least 1-2 holes that were actually green and maintained so their wasnt dirt and weeds where the fairway USED to be. Another tid bit, there are NO bathrooms or water throughout the course. This is a big one for a Southern California golf course. Overall an ok experience, I will definitely be looking other places before going here.
John Ashworth has greatly improved the playing conditions at this course. Lets hope they keep improving it.
Course was in good shape and was challenging. However, the lady that works there was rude again to me! I had barely finished my round of golf when she came out and told me to hurry up and return my cart because they were low on carts, despite the fact that they had 8 lined up in front of the office. When I asked the cart attendant, he disagreed that they were low. I went back in and ashed her if she was singling me out, and all she did was start to complain about the young guys working at this course and how they didnt do their job correctly! Again, this is the 3rd time this lady has been rude and unappreciatice of my business! Ill have to take my business elsewhere to courses who like vacationers to frequent their course.
Great remodeled course very tough with a lot of hills
Cool place, good vibes, great course ...
