UPDATE 11/2020: They started accepting more people, which led me to stop going. Its still 2 people per lane, and every lane was pretty much full whenever I went. Totally not a problem in a non-COVID world, so I may wait to go back for a while. This review is strictly based on my experience at the pool today, which is about a week after they opened back up after covid pandemic started. Hoping this answers some questions people may have during COVID. I didnt know until I got there, but you need to make a reservation before you go. They open for 90-minute blocks, and at the end of every block they clear out the pool and clean for 30 minutes. Fortunately the pool capacity wasnt full so they let me go in. There were 4 other people there, in their own lanes. Lockers are prohibited at this time so I changed real quick in the locker room and put my bag on a designated chair by the lane in the pool area. People who were not in the pool (including life guards) always wore a mask. I think theyre doing a great job keeping everyone safe and enjoy the pool
Very good setup, with ample room to socially distance. Staff are very helpful. I was just surprised to see the sign that says you must always wear a mask, _except_ when exercising. Unless youre swimming, it makes total sense to wear a mask when youre exercising, because hard breathing is most apt to blow the virus all over the place. At the very least Oak Marr should strongly encourage people to wear a mask at all times -- and requiring it (except for people with a physical condition) would be better. Fortunately virtually everyone in the weight room had a mask on.
I give 5 stars to this place because finally my child learned swimming here. I tried a few pools in the area and even private lessons but none of them worked for my child. If you want your child really learn swimming try this place and specially Mr. Yaghoub as instructor. Hes the best I have ever seen and knows how to teach every single person in the group. Good instructor is the key to make your child learn. My son was afraid of water for years and never learned even with private lessons. But now we need to force him to get out of water.Thank you so much and looking forward to continue lessons.
Decent golf place. Good service.
My children love this place! They have taking swimming lessons here for about two to three years and have made incredible progress from not knowing how to swim to butterfly stroke! They even have daycare there!
I only used the fitness and cardio machine area. Clean, busy and comfortable enough. The traffic light really helps with traffic flow in and out of the parking lot!
All facilities are very expansive with helpful staff at a reasonable price. Comes fully equipped with pools, diving boards, racquetball courts, gyms, saunas, yoga rooms and more. Only problem is that it can be slightly crowded at times, but never to the point of discomfort.
Awesome pool is blocked most of the late afternoons and early evenings by the Fairfax county public schools. Other than that awesome facility.
Great pool! We have swim classes here with our 1.5yr old.
Great gym...however the staff at the front desk could be a little more friendly.
Large parking lot, but terrible turf field way too short so if your playing goalkeeper bring some padding unless you want to get injured
Double decker golf range is nice
Have had good experiences for classes for self and for kids.
Have nice pools. My son loves the sand pool for kids
Has so many things to do. There is a smoothie bar, high diving platform, golf course, and child care just to name a few things. The staff is very nice and the building is very clean.
Swimming is safe in Oak Marr.
Great place for a multitude of sports and exercises to do here
This place is closer from my home but when I want to real swim excise then usally go to the Cub Run Rec. center because there are more free lane.
Such a treasure for folks living near Oakton. This place is newly renovated, clean, and thriving with activity. You can take a variety of classes here or simply take time to exercise on your own time.
Single use $0.50 cent lockers, with no place otherwise to store your gear while working out. Don’t plan on using this as a gym you can get ready from and go to work. This is a hidden charge of hundreds of dollars per year...unless you just don’t use your membership.
It is a great place to have swimming lessons in, and the teachers are pretty nice too, but I feel like the teachers who teach are a little too strict, and they dont let their students have a break, and even when you ask for one, they say that I dont need a break, and they give me one for like 10 sec. But overall, its a great place, but it would be better if we could have breaks that are longer without needing to ask.
LOVE THIS PLACE! Pool is great to work out in and LOTS of options for fitness classes!
I likee it because they gave me make me to swim
Its a nice public facility and the punch-card system is a relatively good deal for residents who want to supplement their adult gym with a lap pool. The staff is nice. The young adult lifeguards tend to take themselves a little too seriously, but thats more amusing than anything (think the sunscreen-nose guy from Caddyshack). As always with public pools, cleanliness could be improved.
A really nice recreation center with a large pool and weight room as well as many classes offered to members. Affordable for Fairfax residents. My only complaint is that the weight room could use a little more equipment-specifically a wider selection of kettle bells and a set of street workout bars-the latter could go outside and would add a lot of value to the gym.
I like this RECenter, its very spacious, bright and clean, and has a lot more machines. Although the parking lot closer to the main center easily gets filled up esp. after office hours.
Staff was nice facility was clean and easy to get around. With a huge parking lot
As a gym this place is a very poor value.- Poor state of equipment maintenance. As an example - (the only) two ellipticals have broken handles, stat. bikes broken handlebars and clutch. Notifying staff rarely helps.- Air conditioning permanently broken (or off?) in the main exercise room. Cutrently over 80F indoors, any aerobic exercise is not possible.- Dirty. They have a paranoid policy demanding members wipe all equipment after use (yet do not provide wet wipes, only corrosive spray and paper towels!!). Meanwhile their (volunteer?) staff is extremely lackluster about cleaning.- As othets mentioned, lockers require a fee!! Given the monthly membership thats just crazy.I go here because of the location - def. wish a commercial gym was available instead of this disgrace.
Excellent racquetball courts. $10 got day pass and $6 to reserve racquetball courts.
A good place to visit and participate for exercises and playing golf at one of several Fairfax Country Community Centers.
This is a really Great place for activities and to be able to work out, Enjoy the huge swimming pool and racquetball courts. Also have different exercise classes that you can attend. Really nice full service rec center for very reasonable price
This is an amazing community resource. Beautiful facility, well populated with modern gym equipment, even sells that technical shirt you forgot to pack in your gym bag, and has a smoothie bar. Wish I lived closer and could take daily advantage of it.
We just started some activities, somehow things are good but some weird things i observed in Mens rest room in the Swimming area. Alert for parents if their underage kids are taking swimming class or using pools dont let them alone in Mens Restroom. seriously i notice couple of time adult people were moving around naked, question is .....are these people lives naked in their house....NO. then why they are moving around naked.Management have to take serious notice or they have to make separate restrooms for kids.
Very nice facility with lap pools, diving boards, baby pool, and a hot tub. There are 2 racquet ball courts, good sized gum facility. The locker rooms are clean. Showers dont have doors though. :-( A lot of parking spaces. There is also a mini golf facility next to it. A nice REC center overall.
From swimming pool to driver range, everything you need is here.Perfect place to exercise for a reasonable price.
Great place to swim.
Its a big recreation center, with many activities for all ages, clean, not too good organized.
Its a nice place to practice. If you want to play a quick 9 and dont mind playing a lot of short par 3s Oak Marr is a good option. Has pretty much everything you need to work on your game.
Great golf practice facility, with a large driving range, practice green for putting, chipping and sand play. Golf school and a nice par 3, 9 hole golf course. The rec center has a good pool, numerous exercise options and classes. There is also a very pretty mini golf course.
Large Recreation Center with many activities. 2 beautiful soccer fields in the back. Will be nicer whem the driving range opens back up
Nice place with lots of sports activities..
Probably the best condition Ive ever seen the greens and Fairways since this facility open. The practice area is just the best ever here and its a pleasure to practice except they dont cut enough Fringe areas to practice chipping.
Good place to catch difficult run trails and cross county connector.
Love the relaxed feel of the weight rooms!
Expensive fees. I paid $10 to swim once. Basically it is one time (one day) facility usage fee, and you can do any activities you want once you pay the fee. But for someone who has a focused fitness goal, like me who is only interested in swimming, $10 fee seems high. I wish that the fee schedule is more flexible. $6 for pool access would be more reasonable. Nice facility though.
One of the best things is how much Jennifer the swimming instructor cares about the children. She makes sure the kids have fun while they are learning and she is so great with taking extra time to teach those that need more attention. You can feel safe about your children here.
Polite staff, clean and modern
Two well-maintained multi-purpose turf fields. Plenty of parking. Indoor gym with massive pool and diving well, plus full gym facilities. Mini-golf and driving range. This small oasis in Fairfax packs quite a bit in to a small area.
On memorial day weekend, place is deserted. Perfect!
Cheap for a great value: state of the art machines/equipment, giant pools, kind customer service
Oak Marr is clean, new rec center. The gym is very new with great equipment. The best thing is they have day care! Yay!
I have been using Oak Marr Rec center for my kids swimming classes only. I am giving this one star review to warn all parents from an instructor named VICTOR as he is the worst instructor I have ever seen. He almost made my son quit swimming which is the activity he loves and enjoys.I have been happy with my experience except last time. My son passed Swimming 3 with Patricia who has been an amazing instructor. My son had a realy bad and horrible first class in Swimming 4 with Victor. He did not communicate as he should with my son. Kept giving orders out of pool to swim continously back and forth in 7ft deep lane for 20minutes without rest. My son attempted to ask him for a rest but because of his horrible way of teaching he could not and he was scared to try to ask again. Finally, my son got dizzy and drawn. FYI, the instructor did not care and never tried to check on him. At this piont I asked my son to get out of pool and soothed him until I talked to Mandy then Ginger who has been very helpful transferring my son to another instructor. Thanks to staff and Mandy who have listened to me. Without thier help, I would never come to OAK Marr again.
My daughter’s swim team hosted their major annual meet at this beautiful, spacious aquatics center. Two-three pools, dive boards, smoothie shop.
Our swimming class, Toddler and Me, with Miss Stran, was great. The facility seems well staffed and equipped. The pool areas are dated and the pool had dirt in it one day, but it didnt detract enough from the experience for us to look elsewhere for swim classes.
Great place to get your daily exercise. Instructors good. Good class size. No pressure.
Great facility for the money.
Great customer service
Great Fairfax County community facility with golf, putt-putt, racquetball, soccer/lacrosse fields, etc.
Oak Marr Rec Center is a Fairfax County Rec Center. It has a pool, several fitnessrooms, spinning room, and a general workout area with machines and such. It does not have a gym like some of the other rec centers do. The front desk staff is generally polite and friendly. It was renovated about five to seven years ago so its light and modern. There are also racquetball courts as well. There is also a mini golf course and a regular golf course. Hurricane can sometimes be weird but it seems like there is enough for the patrons usage. There is also a Farmers Market from May to November in the parking lot on Wednesdays.
I come here every year for a swim meet and cant believe how well the staff keeps up with the influx of all the swimmers and parents. The facilities are topnotch and I would join if I lived here
Very nice pool lots of lanes. You need quarters to lock the lockers which is so so annoying. Pretty expensive for a day pass to just swim some laps.
Very good workout facilities and rarely too crowded. The locker room is kept clean. Has a solid mini golf course. Humongous swimming pool. The only nuisance is the jacuzzi- at least a third of the time it is unavailable, not functioning, or colder than normal. I love the Fairfax Rec Center multi visit deal, where I can get 20 visits to use within 2 years, or something like that. This is a great deal for folks like me who only go once or twice a week
Great place, lots of good options for swimming, exercise, classes etc. But, very hectic, always crowded and busy.
Great pool, cold locker rooms, no overnight parking.
Great updated facility and you cant beat the childcare.
Beautiful pool, diving boards, gym and racquetball courts. Nice place to bring the family and kids.
Great classes - friendly instructors
Great range and par 3 courses for golf. Rec center is good too
Great pool and hot tub.
Really good staff and modern well maintained facility. snack machines could have healthier options.
Oak Marr has been my gym for quite some time now. I used to go there for swim team back in high school and would have swim meets there during our season. The pool is huge and is excellent for lap swimming. I also like to play racquet ball, though sometimes scheduling can be a little bit of a pain. This facility has everything that a place like this can offer. The locker rooms have always been clean and they seem to keep everything upkept at least from what I have observed.
I have swam here 5 days a week for the past few years. The lifeguards are sometimes annoying. The pool once had toilet paper in it pretty much everywhere and they didnt close the pool. That is my only bad experience.
A clean facility. It can be a bit crowded... But very nice pool and instructors.
Great staff and many events that are family oriented
Great Alternative to other Gyms. This place has it all.... swimming, racketball, basketball, mini golf, driving golf range.. classes.. this us just one of a number of Rec centers run by Fairfax County. It is located on Jermantown Road in Oakton, VA. They have a variety of memberships, a 30 visit pass, a monthly, quarterly and yearly pass.I love this place, I swim, use the treadmills, weights, free and other options. There is a sauna in the Mens room, I assume there is one in the Womens riom, too. They have 2 racketball courts and of course, mini golf outside.. Mini Golf.. fun. They sometimes run specials.. like 30 days for 30 dollars. It may be a little more expensive than some gyms, but the amenities are great. Olympic size pool, with a high diving board for the adventuresome.I keep renewing my membership. Great place
Nice facility but the pool temperature is way too warm to get in a good swim workout.
I really enjoy the facility and the staff is super helpful. Very professional feel for a rec center!
Love the driving range but its a par 3 course. Mini golf is very mediocre. Gym/pool are great.
Awesome! Worth every penny! Priceless!
Good venue with some pretty good class options at very reasonable rates.
Great classes for little ones.
Friendly staff, always clean.
Great place to go
Perfect place for everyone swimming pool gym steam room everything
Huge swimming pool. And golf course
Although renovated just three years ago, the fitness center has fallen into disrepair. The fitness tracking equipment was pulled and not replaced. The vinyl and padding on weight machines is badly worn and merely given some tape to cover the cracks. Many machines are broken and stay broken for weeks at a time. The fitness center staff all seem to have left, and you have to ask for the trash to be emptied and paper towel dispensers to be refilled. And lately, theyve decided not to use any air conditioning, which makes for an extra strenuous work-out.Things are improving! The vinyl on the weight-lifting equipment has been replaced and the air-conditioning seems to have been fixed. Lets see if they can keep it up.
Great staff. Swimming lessons instructors are awesome. Top notch workout facility, mini golf and golf
There were a lot of bugs, but it is a good place to play soccer.
If you had 4.5 that would be it nice place and poptarts
Did you know they have miniature golf and a driving range?
Great recipes center with helpful staff.

This is a brand new facility. Previously we used to go to the Reston Community Center, and this place is far better in terms of design, lighting, environment, amenities, the pool, equipment... The list goes on. Though a bit on the costlier side, it is worth it.
Great place for family fun! Clean facility, and very helpful staff.
Love it so far. Will update if anything changes
Best public Driving Range in the area.
Very nice, recently renovated rec center. Plenty of equipment and space.
