Our family loves Big Break. Great paved trails for getting a nice walk with lovely scenery. Well maintained space with a great visitors center. The docents at the center are the absolute best!! Not a ton of variety in the trails but there is something here for all ages including a sand pit and small dock. Stroller /bike friendly.

It is very spacious and a wonderful place for those looking for a trip to get out of stay at home life. Most of the trails into the more adventurous areas are marked as no dogs allowed. Which was a shame as I was there with friends who brought their dogs. While there were locals in various areas of the short and sweet walking paths, again, it felt very spacious and social distancing was easy to accomplish. Only downside, make sure you take care of any personal business prior to arriving. The bathrooms needed some work. As a man, not so much of an issue. However, the restrooms are unisexual, meant for both ladies, gents, and our non-binary family. Yet they were not being maintained to the levels that are required in this day and age for all individuals to use.

This is a beautiful, peaceful, large open area at the shoreline in Oakley. I have been enjoying long walks on the nicely paved path which runs along the water, 5 miles total to the larger walking bridge and back. The various trees, plants, and views are amazing, including plenty local wildlife. Today there was a gorgeous sunrise, and we were fortunate enough to see a cool turtle, another walker gave us the heads up so we would not miss it, so nice! While visiting this also enjoy, free to public, nice clean paved parking lot with bathrooms, a great newer family oriented local environment historical museum. Also a plus, there are other always walkers, runners, bicyclists around.

This is a beautiful Area with a nice fishing pier, it is a nice walk to the pier though 1/4 mile, so be ready to walk lol, if you are going to fish there, please bring your wagon or other transportation to carry your gear, ice chest, fishing gear etc. If youre going for a family picnic make sure that you are able to transport everything from your car to the picnic area. This area is a part of the Sacramento River, I thought that was pretty cool information that is shared on the Bulletin board as you walk on the way.

Great place! Wonderful walk. You can actually come and speak with the ranger and get a tour which is awesome. The fishing here is so so at least for me anyway. This is more of a sit out on the dock with a coffee and soak it all in spot. Nice for stretching those legs and taking the stress levels down a notch. Theyve got a great spot for family events, bbqs, kids birthday parties Etc. But its just really far from the parking lot to carry a lot of things. Here the name suits it, Big Break

Nice walk much of it is asphalt so good for scooters, wheel chairs, and strollers. There is a pier that one can fish and watch the delta. It also has an amphitheater and really large map of the delta on the ground which really gives you a great understanding of the area. This is the only area of the park I explored and did not find much in the way of dirt trails though their is old equipment in the area which one had a date of 1909 on it. The visitor center was closed but I was told that it had some great exhibits even some that you can see under a microscope.

Beautiful and gentle walking paths in a peaceful setting rich in native plant life and with plenty of opportunities to see some birds or other wildlife. I didnt realize the path continues after a small break into a residential area, so Im looking forward to returning soon to explore further.I spent quite a lot of time checking out the cool outdoor topographical model of the Delta and rivers. Inside, the info center has interesting exhibits easy for children to engage with but also informative enough for adults, and the staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to share their expertise. With several sprinklings of seating benches and covered tables overlooking the water, there are great options for a small picnic or meditative break time near the main building area.I highly recommend a visit to Big Break, as I spent several hours here and enjoyed the entire experience.

What a hidden gem! This park is so peaceful I dont know why we dont visit more often than we do. The trails are flat and very easy for strollers or devices used by mobility-impaired folk. Our four-year-old grandson immersed himself in the interactive exhibits in the visitor center and even us adults enjoyed them too. There is a large topographical map of the Delta and the river systems feeding into it. I find myself pouring water into each of the rivers to watch the water flow to the Delta. This time I felt like the Pied Piper as there were many children that came to watch and help me out. Along the trails one might see bathing turtles or any number of a variety of wading and other birds. Perhaps even a muskrat or an otter may make an appearance. A shaded sand pit with an excavator gives kids something else to do while adults just sit and enjoy the tranquility. A visit to the fishing pier is the icing on the cake and we watched kayakers paddling around in the break. The nearly constant breeze from the water here makes hot days more bearable as well, and on this day also gave a couple of kiters enough air to raise their kites and entertain us all for a bit. I must remind myself to visit more and feed my soul.

Our family loves spending time at this park. And park is a misnomer: the miles-long walking/biking trail starts/ends at an area with a waterfront pier, kayak launch area, and docent led discovery center.
