I accidentally stumbled upon this festival on my First Friday in Oakland. it was super fun and brought back memories of Bloc parties we used to have in my neighborhood in Jersey. Once I saw girls jumping double dutch in the middle of the street I immediately gravitated towards them and joined in on the fun. This is a great event for the community featuring amazing local food, shops, and artists!
Another amazing example of people getting together to just have a good time and celebrate the Bay Areas diversity. Blocks of food trucks, performances, small demonstrations, Music, and LOTS OF PEOPLE! This was my first time at First Fridays and I had no idea it was so big! Plan early for parking, carpool, or take bart, but go.
This is very interestingOne road is blocked to park food trucks and hundreds of varieties of food is available during this fest. You go there for dance, food, shop and have lot of fun. Raahgiri in India is on same concept
Nice food truck/Street vendors night very busy those pics after it ended, nice to walk around
Best way to get a taste of the diverse culture and foods of Oakland in one event. Something for everyone. Be sure to check out Art Murmur and the great Burlesque show at 10p at Stork Club!
I enjoy frist Fridays every time I go, I like to visit the art galleries over walking the streets, there are food, arts and crafts vendors and music on the streets. At some of the galleries the artist is there for Q&A, also some galleries serve doeuvres and wine for a fee. It is very crowded with lines of people waiting for food and walking the street. It starts from Jack London to 26th St. These are old pictures from 2013.
I love first Fridays in Oakland!Telegraph is closed to traffic.Theres tons of food to buy and people dancing in the streetsLocal artist have wares on display. The galleries in the areas are open with new shows
A place to find Oakland culture at its finest. A true mixing pot of food and people as well as the eccentric art scene happenings that surround First Friday limits. I love going and do not do so enough. Go early to have your food of choice without much of a line.
WHATS THERE FIRST FRIDAYAND THE SERVICE WAS VERY GOOD !
First time there, pretty big event!!! Multiple streets closed down and filled with vendors and food trucks/stands! Had the fish/shrimp taco stand and it was delicious!!!! Lots to do around the area too! Super lively and fun!!
A great addition to Oakland culture! Showcases local Oakland talent, Oakland food and the art galleries nearby the event allow you to round off the night with some great art viewing (in addition to the art to found at First Friday).
I didnt hate it Google says I did but its wrong its friendly pretty safe good music and gets packed..
This was fun, exciting and the energy was fulfilling. The only sad thing is, it’s not advertised. I got there late and intend on getting there earlier. Can’t wait for this week.
Great food, music and performances. First Fridays are super fun. Lots to do later in the night in that area as well!
This is an essential part of the city of Oakland. Vendors, street performers, and food trucks make this quintessentially East Bay. If youre in the area for a weekend, a summer, or all year round going to a First Friday is a must.
Great entertainment. Isaac Brown is amazing!
Oakland First Fridays is a super fun event with a lot to do and theyre spectacular to volunteer with. Great music, dancers, food, and experience.
Havent been in a while but loved the experience I had
Its a great vibe to be at! Beautiful people, great food
It was cold, the temperature was in the low fortys. During my stroll through and occasionally stops, I spotted some interesting items. I looked at local art work and jewelry. I ended up buy a couple of tacos and mango juice and called it a night. Ill definitely go again.
Brilliant monthly event! Very diverse
This should be a five star rating but for some reason Oakland is cancelling the first Fridays on my part of telegraph. This is the second month it has happened without explanation. I think certain developers are involved and the City of Oakland is playing along.
During the day, fun for the whole family. Food trucks, music, dog-friendly and police presence. During the night...
Great music, great people, amazing musicians. Good vibes all around!
You get to enjoy a variety of great food and fun entertainment!!
Once a month you get awesome local flavor congregating right here with live music, performances, art, street vendors, lots of food.
Had a blast! So much to be seen and said, gotta check it out for yourself. Great food and drinks available..
It can get really busy but if you go early its great! Prices are totally affordable, the portions are good and the foods not bad. Worth visiting but go early :)
Went to my first Oakland First Fridays and had a great time. Great for people watching, trying new food, artisanal jewelery and getting brushed up on current community activism. Very much worth attending.
We went too early but it was a good time.
If you want to experience turf wars and what they mean by goin dumb, this is the place to be. Its hella crowded, but a chill place to be. There are food trucks at the end and the lines are pretty long. I ended up drinking in the parking lot of the korean market and then going to a few of the bars. Parking is rough so take bart. There is a station maybe 2 or 3 blocks away.
Very nice street event to go with friends and family. Lots of options to eat and enjoy music, dance.
Great for people watching, all of Oakland is out there, a bit too crowded sometimes, lots of food, handicrafts, music, dance
Fun event with street food and music. Used to be more entertaining when the cars and motorcycles where at the gas station.
Nice place to go afternoon night for drinks smoke and relax
This was my first time attending Oakland First Friday in over a year. I was really disappointed by the huge crowd, long good lines, and no art. Where is the art? There were no paintings or live painters. No musicians or dancers. The event was filled with intoxicated people hollering at each other and wobbling on the side lines. So disappointing.
Good food and community support....
Art in real form i admire art old or new
Tons of good food, good music, good performers.
I love going here! The diversity is rich
Fun street festival but lines are too long at the good stuff!
Great community event, great performers
GreatEveryone needs to come out at least once
It be hella dry and not the same or vibe no more
I really missed good Friday but.lovr the African vendor s.. organic.juiced.Awesome people n food..great venues..at least three fr dancing..trendy folk
Great food vendors and good vibes.
An amazing assortment of food and entertainment in one long place
Visited on January 2019, not a full turn out with vendors that night. Moreless looking like a night street market with lots of food stalls and trucks. Foods are great though. Will definitely visit again to if it any different.
Love this. I wish all citys had something like this
The food was amazing and the overall atmosphere was chill mode.
I had a great time people watching & eating terrific food.
The absolute best thing to do in Oakland its an amazing experience!
People get shot here sometimes.... but still kinda fun
I enjoyed myself! However the food was pretty over priced and things were kind of scattered and hectic. Overall it was a good time.
Great local art and awesome out of towners displaying their art. Heck great bars and food
Oaklands most iconic event. People of all walks of life coming together to eat and watch live performances. From break dancing, to double Dutch, to every genre of music live or DJd, if you do nothing else, attend this event.Observe the times, as it ends early, and definitely bring cash to buy art from local artists and crafts people. Graffiti art, street wear, vintage sports wear, hand made jewelry, woke stuff, and other neat things that are uniquely Oakland can be had here. This event is completely safe, so you can bring the kids. People do not openly drink much but they do openly smoke. After dark, the nearby area and bars can get ugly, but that is almost always long after dark, past midnight. The area is completely safe during the hours of First Friday, formerly known as the Art Murmur. If you do go back far enough to call it the Murmur, the art gallaries are all between Telegraph and Broadway, in the mid to high 20s, and Saturday afternoon is a less hectic time to visit them.
Awesome vibe. Always something going on. Great food, awesome music and and better people. This is why Oakland has soul
Such a great moment to catch up with everything Oaklandish
Art is fun after a day full of festivities and dancing.
Its a fun place, especially on a nice day. Especially, especially on a pay day. But its essentially the same vendors that you see at other street festivals around the bay.Theres some variation, but theres a lack of Caribbean, African, eastern European... unsurprisingly things that the bay doesnt have much of in general.Points for that interesting ice cream place that had activated charcoal ice cream. Points off for the ice cream not being particularly good
I can always count on having good drinks & good food with friends here. I love the atmosphere everyone is here to have fun and celebrate. If you ever find yourself at a First Fridays be sure to get some food from Cacao Milk Bar trust me that food is worth standing in line for!
Amazing art and crafts and the galleries are open
Such an important part of Oakland culture. I hope they keep first Fridays going forever.
First Friday was on hit. The vendors, the attendees and the security (which I was apart of) was better than advertised. Way to go Oakland. Kicking off Art month. Looking forward to the next one.
Lots of different types of food, music and fun.
Outdoor monthly festival (with all sorts of booths and food) in downtown Oakland, teeming with people of all colors and ages. Highly recommended!
THE BEST TIME IN OAKLAND
Go early if youre actually interested in art. If you are interested in booze, go later.
I encourage everyone to go at least once. On every 1st friday of the month, Oakland shuts down the street for the festival and theres different types of music playing throughout and awesome food. I recomend Cacao the chicken and waffles/cupcake thing or the Gorgeous Gorrilla they sell oxtail stew. There used to be a gator dish at one vendor but i never see it now Theres really cool unique Vendors. Everything i buy here i get tons of compliments on. I bought a bowtie from that place called Jazzy Bow Ties (funny because my nicknames Jazzy)... still get compliments and i had the thing for 3 years.
Crowds a little bit younger these days but still a great variety of foods and cool art activities
I love first Fridays. They need a a variety of Music booths...people love to dance
Active! Telegraph was block parties up. I never seen anything like it. Steph Curry event went off without any problems. Im proud to be from OAKLAND Bancroft
Its okay, not much for children. Needs to be a little more cultural. A lot of drinking going on, reminded me of an outside bar.
Good vibes, great food. Thanks.
Had A Great Time!!
I enjoy it been going for years

Good people fun environment
Great event but crowded
Its oakland . i wouldnt want to be there at night but the event is ok definately some sketchy people posted on corners and leaving against the outside of stores at night the occasional anti american rant from people who want to start a revolution but are severly lacking intelligence food at the event is ok i wouldnt pack more than 45 bucks ...its oakland afterall 45 will get you like 2 or 3 meals at the event depending where you go . oh ! Ya the event was closed for a while becouse of a shooting .so ya ..its oakland alright ha ha
The dates were changed! Due to the weather conditions a week ago. My favorite Barbecue spot wasnt there Sal missed you.
It a very cool experience
