Basically petco with space.Only come here if you’re getting stuff you know you need and don’t expect a refund because they need the money. other then that you can just order your fish online instead of the mark up from them!..
Edit: i was incorrect, they are moving. Thats why they were so empty. Looking forward to giving them another shot at the new location, For now 5 star!I thought they were empty turns out they are moving.
Called during shelter-in-place and was able order fish and supplies on the phone, then picked up the items. The guy was delightful and helpful. He brought the items to my car, left it on the ground, and stepped away. Contactless pick up. Great service and products! My daughters are delighted to have fish during this time at home!
The store associate was nice and helpful. There was a good amount of fish with good prices. The only downfall was it was a little confusing to find it.
Great staff. Currently limited selection but same as everywhere. Thumbs up.
Super helpful and enthusiastic staff!
Great place. A little understaffed on the weekends but everyone is super helpful, knowledegable and nice.
Good service. Lots of selection. Couldnt ask for more.
Great service with many items that some stores dont have. Its also really convenient. Its right behind my school so sometimes I go there when I want to. Their staff were friendly and helpful. Really recommend this place!
I live in PA and have been searching for a L-128 blue phantom pleco. Slim Pickens in my area for anything other than a guppy and your big box store with diseased fish. Anyway I found one online at BB aquarium. I called to ask for a picture of the one that I would be receiving. The person I talked to sent me different pics right away and I got to pick the one I wanted. When it came in the next day it was the best packaging Ive ever gotten with an online purchase of fish. The pleco came very lively and already the next day out and about looking for food. I would highly recommend this pet store for online purchases. Thanks again for your help guys.
They stock some really good products that are hard to find ( most big box pet stores sell stuffs that are not as good but would make them better profit margin.) We ordered online, they shipped fast, packaged the item well and the item that should be kept cold was well insulated with an ice pack and arrived cold as it should. Phone calls were answered and any questions about products and shipping were answered and they took the time to chat with me about aquarium keeping. Happy customer, and would highly recommend this place.
Best priced aquariums in Nor Cal.
Large selection of fishes, very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
An incredible resource for us local aquarists!
Best fish store Ive ever been in. Staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
Shop was very well stocked and affordable. Heather was delightful and insightful. Looking forward to visiting my new favorite local pet shop for all my aquarium needs. Bonus points for having a rewards program! Also very much enjoyed walking across the estuary cove to get here! :)
Going to this store is an adventure! Its a quirky spot in a warehouse district with nice, helpful staff and a ton of products. They keep their bettas in a filtered, flowing water system thats really cool. The day I visited it was difficult to navigate the shop because things werent well organized. Id still highly recommend checking out this unique shop!
Great service, friendly and patient staff. Huge selection of aquariums and tank gear. There is not a lack here, you will find what you need... and for some reason if not, they will help you find it. Regarding the saltwater livestock .. I like that they quarantine all fish prior to selling. This is huge. Will be back....Thanks Bay Bridge Aquarium!
Bay Bridge Aquarium is for real hobbyists. Their species and equipment selection is second to none in the East Bay. And their staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Support this locally owned and operated aquarium store.
While I dont have fish, or shop for them, my friends were here to shop for some certain African tropical fish for their aquarium. I went inside with them just to check the place out. My friends tell me this place has every species of African and exotic fish you can think of, and if they dont, they will get it. I really liked what I saw here, as people who enjoy things like this can find anything and everything they need for their aquariums and for their fish. I was very impressed with the selection they had, and the stuff they had available. Cant really say much more, as Im No authority in this area. If my friends say it is great, Ben I agree with them 100%.
Great store with great staff members
Fantastic having a store like this nearby. They cater specifically to the more serious aquarium hobbyists. Tons of high end tanks, equipment, foods, chemicals, tank decoration, live plants, corals etc. the staff is very knowledgeable and passionate, helpful and friendly. Don’t be deceived by the location or the WIP state of the store. It gets a little closer to being finished every time I go in and everything gets a little more organized. The fish they stock all come from the same breeder and all seem super healthy and energetic. All the fish I’ve gotten here have thrived and ever reproduced!
I am a solid believer in trying to support a LFS. It is a challenge to make a go of it, as can be seen by how few remain in any given area. I do buy on line as well, either for convenience or fish and product availability, yet I make an effort to also buy from local fish stores. I have visited and purchased things from Bay Bridge Aquarium on multiple occasions since discovering it about a year or more ago.I am always hopeful when I go into a new LFS that the owner has a solid retail understanding about how cleanliness and visual presentation impact results. It would be great to find a place that truly understands it is not just about tanks and concrete and warehouse shelving, it is about how appearance and attention to aesthetics greatly impacts how a potential customer feels when in the store. The first time I was in Bay Bridge I was told they were new and still setting up, but it turns out they had been open for a year, and now over another year later it is still the same. It is just the way most fish stores are, it has some appeal because of selection and staff, but does not have an appealing presence.I have been a tropical fish hobbyist most all of my life, and I occasionally have some fish that I have had spawn. I do not do it to make money, but one challenge a hobbyist has is finding a place to give the fish to. Usually all I ask in return is a can or two of fish food, which I know costs a LFS very little. So here is the rub. Bay Bridge Aquarium won’t take locally hobbyist raised fish in. I was told by Michael, the owner, it is for quality and fish health issues. In my view this is a manufactured and untruthful reason. I am not sure of the real reason, but suspect it is because many people buy fish that grow too big or grow into ugly big fish and want to unload them, and I get that, no store wants to be a dumping ground for that. However, if fish spawn for an experienced hobbyist who has appropriate species for regular size aquariums, and the young ones grow up, they experience way less stress and health issues then fish shipped in from far away places. I used to work for a tropical fish importer, I know how many die before they finally arrive at a LFS.My point? If a business asks and expects that people support a local business with their patronage, I don’t find it necessarily acceptable that they won’t also support their customers by providing them a way of sharing the results of the hobby and allowing them to continue to enjoy it. I at least would think it would be determined on a case by case basis. I fully understand that a store would not want disfigured, poor quality or large fish.Bottom line, it is challenging for me to support a LFS that does not in turn support those that enjoy the hobby that the store promotes.
Best aquarium store in the bay area. Very knowledgeable and helpful. They have a good variety of fish and they are friendly and take their time to really help.
I used to go to another shop that shall go nameless but the fishes didnt seem as high quality. I noticed the difference right away w betas from Bay Bridge--seemed smarter even, better bred. The people there are knowledgeable and friendly. Best aquarium Ive found in Oakland so far. Also a fun industrial sort of area that makes you feel like you found a cool hidden spot.
I absolutely love this place. My kids and I are in here almost daily. Their stock rotates constantly, fish and product. I am there for fresh and salt water one of my sons for terrariums and reptiles. They dont have a huge selection of reptiles yet but they have all the items to care for them. And if they dont have the items you are looking for just ask. My son wanted a tank they didnt have on the floor and they ordered it for him. Its a one stop shop. I am sure you can do the same for fish and corals. I always get big eyes when shopping new fish or corals. They have been very good at reminding me to add slowly. Which is what we should all do but its not easy.
This place is amazing!! We came in for a Nemo for my four year old daughter and couldnt be happier. This was our first pet fish and frankly I didnt know where to start. Michael showed us a nice selection of fish that would be appropriate for my daughter and the right aquarium for my budget. He also told us some really helpful tips for keeping this fish healthy and happy. Michael definitely knows his stuff and really cares that his customers get the right fish for the right experience level (and budget). Also glad we supported an Oakland small business rather than some big box animal mill. We will definitely be coming back again soon.In the end, WE FOUND NEMO !!
Aquarium plants. I am a total beginner. I went to Bay Bridge to check them out and also ask for some help getting started. This place felt very different from the other three aquarium stores I’d checked out earlier. This store has a subtle sense of community along with its retail. The staff was friendly, helpful and genuine. The woman who helped me actually listened to me describe my lack of talent and responded with a bit of reassurance, a bit of knowledge, and a reminder that this can be a lot of fun.
Helpful staff-excellent selection of Saltwater/freshwater fish.... reptiles not so much
Great selection. Tall guy talked to me about everything i would need to set up my new tank.. didnt get anything this time, at first i didnt think i could handle a salt water tank but i was convinced otherwise... :)
Huge selection of supplies and tanks. Variety of healthy fish and corals. Super friendly and personable staff. They are patient and attentive. Fast becoming my favorite aquarium shop.
Really groovy utilization of space, knowledgeable staff. Most extensive selection of Japanese siamese fighting fish Ive ever seen.
My friend and I kinda watched th his store from before it was officially opened till now and I gotta say that I am so disappointed at the way it turned out. It really did have potential. Me and my friend offered to set up their big display tank for free because we saw the direction it was going. But the owner was stubborn and I think he took it as an insult, but we were very polite about it.live stock (especially the small selection of coral) are way overpriced. The big display tank i mentioned turned out horrible. I wish that guy wouldve accepted our help. I feel like he saw an episode of tanked or watched finding Nemo and thought wow an aquarium store would be cool to open, even though I dont know much about aquariums.
This place is GREAT !!!!! Andreas, THANK You so much for all your help !!!!
I had a difficult time finding a particular aquarium stand I was looking for elsewhere, but they had it in stock. Michael worked with me to figure out the logistics of shipping such a large item to Oregon and provided great care and attention. Couldnt be happier with the process and personal interaction.
They have all you will need in your aquariums. Its simple amazing how much inventory they have and how nice were the people. Definitely I will come back to find new supplies.
Patient and professional staff that have always been extremely helpful. Out of the independent fish stores I have been to in the East Bay, they have the broadest inventory and I believe the newest and best maintained live fish area. They have tanks and equipment in store from beginner to high end hobbyist. Want a 20 gallon all in one set up? I did and I think I found 7 different options that I could physically look at and compare. As well as then checking that reactors / skimmers and ATOs were the right size and had the look I wanted. Fish I have purchased online have almost always been under my size expectation or not colored to my liking. I believe local fish stores like this are the way to go for this hobby, and will do my best to support them.
A friend recommended this new store and it was just what I was looking for. Its new so I can grow into this hobby with them. New reef tank here! They are setting up their Quarantine tanks so the saltwater fish selection is a bit more limited right now but the owner said they will be getting new fish soon. They seem to be taking things cautiously which is better for them and us in the long run.
Helpful staff and nice variety!
Cant wait for the new store to open
Michael was really helpful! Helped me find all the right stuff for my Betta fish Blue! He also took the time to find the testing strips to test my water. Highly recommended aquarium store. Knowledgeable staffs here.
What a poor excuse for a business.drove an hr to the place cause they are the only ones close to me with chili rasboras.i wanted 10 chilis so when i got there, there was only 2 other people there and with 2 employees im thinking shouldnt be no more then 15 mins.waited around for half n hour and still didnt get any service.so i got tired of waiting im heading for the door to see the other employee went off to do something else.i dont know if we were the only asian in the store and the other customers was all white.who knows,i can only speculate.highlight of the visit was the guy catching a loach for one of the customers, when he tried to get it out of the net dropped it from 5up and then i dont know if he was freaking out cause he was fumbling trying to pick it up then instead of putting it back in the tank and get another,he just bags it up and doesnt saying anything to the customer
They have good customer service lots of supplies they also guarantee their fish Im going back for sure
Wasnt fully setup when I visited. Heavy into saltwater fish very light on freshwater fish. Looks like it will be well stocked with equipment and supplies. Near a large pot dispensary so be careful driving there.Staff was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
This place is just starting to get up and running so my expectations werent super high. They are still building and setting up tanks and ahelvish. That said, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable and all of their animals are very well taken care of.
Really Cool place with great selection
Really great new store. Excellent service, knowledgeable staff, wide selection of fresh and saltwater fish and aquarium supplies. Go to this store.
I went to many fish stores, from Santa Rosa to Oakland, and finally found Bay Bridge Aquarium. Michael, the owner, is absolutely awesome. He special ordered the type of fish I wanted and continued to correspond and give me excellent advice for the care of my fish. His tanks are super clean, he has lots of products, and is very knowledgeable about maintaining a home aquarium. I will continue to drive far out of my way to give Bay Bridge Aquarium my business.
The business I located along the Embarcadero neighborhood in a brick building with no windows and a metal door. The person accompanying me on this visit commented on the place looking sketchy. There are a few signs posted on/near the door including one basically indicating the building is unreinforced and subject to collapse in a large earthquake.Once inside, we noticed a small selection of reptiles for sale and an ok selection of reptile terrarium accessories. They do have a nice selection of freshwater and saltwater fish as well as a good selection of aquariums and accessories. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Very expensive and not much help. I hope theyre successful though. We need this in our community.
They have lots of aquatic creatures. Friendly staff also and all around interesting fish
I dropped off a salamander the first time I visited. I came back to buy an aquarium for my hamster, the prices are great and the staff are helpful!
Little cluttered and thought they had more livestock and stuff. also call ahead to see real stock because the website isofften wrong for the fish they have. .. but very helpful staff and very large space with tons of equipment..
Very knowledgeable staff and willing to help a newbie out.
The store is just getting started so product is all over the place. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. The store is very hard to get to unless you listen and follow the instructions told by the phone prompt. Pricing wasnt too bad considering the rest of the SF Bay area.
I just visited today for the first time, but have not shopped yet. I have a fresh water tank, so I only looked at freshwater section. The location is a large warehouse and was still under construction as of 5/16/2019. There is plenty of parking so no parking issue. I just had a little problem finding the door since the store appeared to be closed at first. I had to push the door, and see that it was actually open. I entered and I saw a lot of shelves fully stocked. I did not see any person there for a while until I found my way to the freshwater section. A nice lady was opening new batches of freshwater fish that had just arrived. She was attentive to me while unpacking etc. I found a good deal of fish variety, something you can Not see in your average Petco, Petsmart, etc. The fish seemed very healthy and well taken of. My only issue was the pricing that seemed a little too high comparing to other stores. For example, a Rummy Nose tetra was priced at $4.99 (compared to $2 or $3), and a bag of Eco Complete substrate was $29.99 (around $20 other places). I would say that good place to shop for variety of small fish if price is not an issue. Personally, I would pay a little more to support local fish store, but this place was a little too high priced for me. Oh, and I did not see too many aggressive fishes or any discus if that is what you are looking for, mostly community fish, which I like better anyway.
Great experience at the store met Gino not sure if thats how you spell his name. Walked me through my first salt water fish purchase, bought a baby clown super healthy fish at a reasonable price. I have a client right down the street so I found my only fish store I will buy from. Thanks for being awesome!!
Great place, good products, theyre still building the place out but plenty of fish and more to gaze at. Knowledgeable staff/owners. This will be my local fish store from now on
Terrible customer service, the bald guy ignored me mid purchase to have a separate 10 minute conversation with a friend visiting, I just wanted my card back and my stuff so I could leave.. anyway on the way out saw the sickest betta fish Ive ever seen in an actual tropical fish store, I posted a photo of the algae soup this fish was living in. Will no longer support this local business.
Looks like it has potential and however not there yet great freshwater fish prices saltwater coral selection needs help
I think it was clear to Michael from the start that I was only looking, that a purchase for my four-year-old grandson would not likely happen with this stop. Michael could not have been more helpful, more explanatory, more clear on what my options would be and how much they would cost. Michael knew that my grandson was totally enamored by the colors and shapes and sizes of the fish and he took extra time to feed them and explain to us. Bay Bridge Aquarium is a great resource, still in its formation
Wow! Finally a local aquarium store that is legit. Great place to shop for both beginners and pros and everyone in between. They had a lot of stock for fresh and salt. Lots of cool reptiles and amphibians too. Im super happy to have found a place that I can shop locally for my nano saltwater tank needs. They have an impressive set up with lots of healthy happy fresh and saltwater fish. The friendly staff is also a huge plus. I will definitely be coming back. My only criticism is that the place needs a good cleaning and dusting. Maybe they can set up a volunteer program for other hobbyists who can come help out a f maybe get a discount? :)
Very cool hidden place and knowledgeable staff.
Friendly staff. Interesting aquariums.
Love this store. Thet have an interesting, awesome group of for sale fish their staff is friendly and knows their stuff.
It was more than a fish store, it was an experience. I learned so much about salt water ecosystems that I have to get one. There were rare fish as well as a new variety of clown fish. They were well stocked and more than willing to share there knowledge with you.
Great prices and really friendly helpful staff
If you have fish or reptiles this is a good place to shop
Arrived here early because I had to be somewhere by 11am- so I arrived to an empty parking lot a few minutes before opening at 10:30a - at 10:30a no one was there, attendant arrived a couple of minutes after the posted opening time... I got a bit nervous because I had planned my morning around stopping in here and didnt want to hunt down another place, so that would be a tiny complaint- get your store open on time... The process of opening and getting ready for customers is a process it caused about a 10-12 minute delay in getting what I needed and getting back on the road. Otherwise, seems like a cool place and Ill be back...I tried to look but again didnt have a lot of time to hang out. The fish looked happy and healthy, since I got there at opening he hadnt had a chance to remove fish that didnt make it through the night...good news, I didnt see any... I would recommend this LFS on the strength of one visit.
Super chill vibe, wider selection than local chains, very helpful staff. Great to have an independent shop in Oakland. I’ll be back!
People are very helpful nice and many varieties of pets
They have a nice variety of fresh and salt water fish and related supplies, and the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Very nice store. The price on the fish are on the high side. Since they are getting there fish from the wet spot in Oregon. Its cheaper to buy from Wet Spot directly.
Excellent customer service. They know their stuff so if you arent sure what to do, theyll lead you in the right direction. And they understand everyone has a budget. Its the kinda store you want to give your business to. Good selection of merchandise.I went back to Bay Bridge again as our betta died. Got another betta and am so happy with our new pet. It is beautiful and active. As always, customer service was superb and accommodating even during the shelter in place. Cant say enough about the peoduct, the staff and how much I love my betta. Keep it up! Give these local guys your business!
Great helpers only went there once but I will go there again! Very nice fish too!
Excellent service and selection
Great new place to get saltwater fish from. Hopefully they will set up their frag tanks soon. Im looking forward to that
Very nice, clean store. Staff is very helpful. Difficult to find.if you dont live in the area.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff, super patient with us as my partner and I had to tag in and out with our toddler.
The owner is very nice. He made sure the fish was in good condition for you. He has a good experience for fish. He is from Hawaii and has a great way to get the best fish for you.
Great store they almost they have everything, and the staff, they r friendly and professional,
Great place for all aquarium and reptile needs!
Always helpful now sure where Id be without them
Please publish your hours on the door. Was unsure of hours as I could not find them on the mobile site & the doors were closed during Google maps hours. A gone fishing sign would have been nice as I had no clue.
New aquarium fish store in Oakland, whats not to like about that? Native Oaklander since Connies was around. This store has not had an official grand opening as of Jan2018, but they have informed that they will soon.
Prices are very high!! Consistently out of salt water. Fish are in poor condition with algae filled tanks.
This will be my LFS from now on. Friendly and knowledgeable staff with a huge selection of marine fish. Not only that, there are reptiles, freshwater, and everything you need to startup. Once the store is officially settled then it will be one of the best in the Bay, IMO.
Great spot. Came in with little idea of what I needed. Left with everything I did.
Awsome shop. They have everything you need for fresh water, marine, or reef aquariums. I have never asked them for something and they didnt have it. Great vibe good customer service and soon to have the badest reef tank in the bay area.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. They had a lot of freshwater fish that I hadnt seen for sale anywhere else.
Great new store in town and with very friendly and helpful staff. Im basing my review on the fact they are new bc they still have a lot of work to do, but its a good start and I want to reward them for their hard work and relationship building customer service. The good:1. Big store with great selection of equipment and supplies.2. Prices for equipment and supplies are very competitive even with online stores (and Ive done my research)!3. Honest and great costumer service. They are willing to admit they dont know something instead of misleading you.4. Great fresh water selection and decent salt water selection.5. Growing selection of reptiles with a very knowledgeable and experienced guy running it.Area for improvement:1. Prices for salt water fish are a bit on the high side but hopefully as they get their new quarantine section up, that can change.2. Upkeep and cleanliness of the tanks. They are a newer store so this makes sense. Hard to fight algae without aged systems. Finally I hope this store makes it and thrives. Definitely need more LFS in the area that have a lot of saltwater options. And btw, they are getting their coral up and running. Exciting!
Ordered online, quick shipping.
Went and picked up a Kessil A80 with the gooseneck, a beautiful healthy zoas colony and a healthy Multicolor Lubbocks Fairy Wrasse. The staff was really knowledgeable and helpful with all the items and live stock. Great to see a local fish store stocked with about everything you need.
I’m happy we now we have a LFS that have all kind of equipment and supplements we need for our tanks in good price
Pretty good selection of supplies and livestock.
Great shop, friendly very knowledgeable staff! Will return. Hidden gem of a fish store!
