Went here mainly to play the ddr extreme cabinet. turns out it was gone and i dont know how long its been but they do have an ITG3 cab with most DDR songs that i did enjoy. the right players pad is kinda of bad and needs some modding/sensor replacement. the games there are pretty fun to play like mk4, nfl blitz and initial D 3. hospitality is also nice there. will be going soon
Very fun arcade! Very cheap, And the staff is very kind! One thing to recommend is not to go here during COVID I feel such now! Sorry kids
I love it here.. Been coming here for over 16yrs. I love it here & Amar is an Awesome Owner. Greta guy with a great Family
Fun place to go with kids, cashier was nice, and they had a section with retro games that you could play for free.
Nickel City has been a go to place for several years. The staff has always been good and they work hard. Unfortunately, this last visit was pretty disappointing. While we do buy nickels for use in the machines we really enjoy playing the free games. Several of the free games were not working, the controls didn’t work, or the games were in such bad shape they weren’t playable. I really hope this is something they can rectify because i really want to give them a better review. If I could do 2.5 stars I would have. There were a few paid games that were also not working.
Ive been going here since I was 5 years old and I still enjoy coming here. Its very cheap and since its all in nickels, I can just count how much goes into each play on each machine. One thing I never have seen any other place do is have a free games section. Its really fun going back there and playing old fashioned games that they decided to keep. Of course I dont earn tickets from it, but those machines are there for the sake of having fun. In an arcade, thats what really matters. Even though this place is small, its a really great place to be.
This place had a wide assortment of games. You can buy nickels when you get there. A great place for all ages. The bathrooms were a bit of a mess, but the overall place was clean. The prizes were amazing, full sized candy bars for only a few tickets! 10/10 would visit again
Smelt bad bad pizza could be better and not soggy scary bathrooms could be better
Fun place for the kiddos. Sadly the free games are barely worth the price. But my daughter had a great time. To note $10 will get you a nice $2 gift. And the restrooms were clean :)
This place is my happy place. There are so many fun games to play. Its great and nostalgic for adults and fun for kids. Just brought my two younger (22 year old) siblings here yesterday for their first time and we played for hours. I highly recommend this place.
Nice courteous employees nice place nice games
We come from an area that has several nickel arcades, so it was quite surprising that they are few and far between in the Chicago area. The nickel arcade portion is pretty standard, plan to spend about $10-20 per kid including admission. What sets it apart is the hall of free games. For free (yes free!) you can play an assortment of classic arcade games. I played TMNT and two Street Fighter games. I would play more but I am always there with my kids, who have little interest in my nostalgia! If I worked nearby, I would go there on a lunch break for sure!
Considering Ive been coming here since it was Super Just Games it hasnt changed much.. still very affordable and the food is still pretty good .... Plus they still have the free section of classic games.
Bad service and the food pay allot for a little bit 6 dollars for 25 fries com on
Fun place that isnt outrageously priced. Nice place to bring the kids for a couple hours, or for adults with the heart of a kid. Games average a quarter per play, which is a great price compared to the area larger arcades. Nice variety of games. They have the great old school games like skeeball as well as some of the newer technology. They are clean and well maintained. Theres never a huge crowd or long lines. I enjoy this diamond in the rough.
Closed. Tried to visit during business hours listed on website, after covid were open banner, all light off, doors locked, nobody around.
The place is so awesome I just want to go there and play all their video games hopefully they make more its so hot.
Alot of old game and the games are not nickel
Need better games love the free games prizes are pricey But the little kids always have fun.
Very fun place for the little ones!
Love this place. The games break down alot but the customer service is great! They can help you with anything
Fantastic place! Was the go to spot 10 years ago. Still the same atmosphere all these years later. Will be coming here regularly.
Its always fun to come here. We come from out of town for business. We like to come back to play the nostalgia is fun to remember for me and pass on to my kids. They find the older games harder since it requires a different thought process vs. todays games. It seems that a lot of the older a games are out of order but they are over 30 years old. Im still surprised the Simpsons game is still working which is always fun to play as a group. You cant beat the price. We walked out after playing for almost 3 hours and banked over 1400 tix. A great place for playing and making memories in my book.
Retro gaming from your childhood. If you remember when going to the arcade was rad and super awesome than you will enjoy Nickel City. Expose your children to the classics that we all loved and enjoyed. Like the name says all games are a nickel. Prizes are available for the tickets you receive.
Loved it since I was a kid. I wish all machines were working though.
About 25% of the games were not working, most of the game screens were set so dark that it was hard to see. If you want to play bulldozer ticket games they have a bunch, if you want an arcade, not the best choice
Very clean facility, excellent service, great selection of games. No management of kids entering or exiting so watch your little ones!
We had all great time! The 6 year old LOVED the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle game and the 4 year old thought it was was awesome to seemingly endless games. Staff was friendly and helpful and seemed like they enjoyed interacting with kids.
Had a wonderful experience, went there on a Tuesday afternoon and spend an average of two hours there. The staff was great, and very helpful. There are tons of good games to play. Great places to bring kids.
Its a lot of fun and our familys birthday spot. It can get crowded for a good reason, everyone has fun. Expect that the game prizes are kind of eh according to the kids. But youre paying a nickle per play so you get what you pay for.
Love this place, 5 cents per game? You cant beat that. Hate to say it, but I think I might have more fun than the little kids, and they have lots of fun here!!
Very cool place
Fun place to go with kids. Small entry fee and that games run for a few nickels each. Lots of the games are older, but still lots of fun. There were a good amount of out of order games or games that werent 100% functional but hard to beat for the price. I did not try the food.
The kids have fun there. It is not expensive. Some of the games dont work. Its run down
This place is cheap and fun! A great place for kids of all ages.
Ive been coming here for years. Its great even as an adult who just needs a break from responsibilities! They have pre-bagged nickels to buy, super convenient. They offer some party packages and have a little dining area. They put the nacho cheese one the side of the nachos instead of directly on them and i find it strange. I only wish they had some pinball!
Love it. Its very awesome and they have some great deals. Enjoyed it so much.
Fun and cheap arcade place that my kids love.
Number one in my book great place to take your family on a budget and a lot of fun for birthday parties great place for the kids. And a great staff that works there.
Its a good place for kids to hang out on a rainy day.
Great prices lol cant beat free games or games for a nickel. Keep this place in mind for fun entertainment for the entire family.
Nice place. Nice staff. Great place for fun on a budget!
Really cool, games for a nickel, not all machines work, but its a nickel!
Love this arcade. Games take nickels instead of quarters. They also have food and drink options, nothing fancy but perfect arcade food. Kids can have a blast here and its affordable. Miss living close to this place.
Very fun place to be at! Me and my cousins go there all the time. Very nice staff and plenty of games to play. This place is worth driving 1 hour to.
Cheap and best place to get tickets.
Tons of fun for not that much money. Old arcade games for a nickel. They have some free games in the back too. They have DDR too. Brought back memories. Not too many places like this are left so its a nice time.
Good value for the price! Kids have fun!
I love the concept of nickel games even if some do end up costing as much as a quarter. My only gripe about this place is the restrooms. I arrived when they opened and already the bathroom was disgusting. Obviously it wasnt cleaned the night before. Not sure if Id go back... makes me question other areas of cleanliness in the facility.
Loved this place for a long time and still do I guess. However it is struggling by a self inflected wound. Its had very few good arcade machines, maybe twelve in total. A large portion of the machines are chance token games. A majoriy of the games are beat up, in disrepair or just plain dont work. The Prize wall is lacking of anything worth trying to win. It has a party room and concession area but thats pretty beat up too. This place was amazing at one time but had been starved to near death by the owners. It looks like it was bought out awhile back, thegood games sold off and theyve cut corners at every turn. Instead of investing in the business and making something the community can reflect fondly on, its been run into the ground. After each visit you wonder how much longer can this place survive with owners who clearly dont care.
Most machines out of order. Snack shack open when someone can work, does not have a person working most of the time.
Great way to spend the evening on a cold winter’s weekend. A good variety of games for everyone and some old school classics. Brought back the nostalgia for me with NFL Blitz.
Amazing place bring your nickels or exchange there. Great place for parties! Not too over priced!
Nickel City is one of those places where people of all ages can go amd have fun. Its worth noting that not all games are just a nickel. Yes, all games only accept nickels but they range from 1 nickel (5 cents) to 5 nickels (25 cents). They also have a free area where you can play some arcade classics without tokens. Those free games consist of mostly fighting games.
Nice place for the kids and a great value!!
Parents let kids run unsupervised. Old arcade games in the back are inoperable, most have broken buttons or controllers, broken screens, or are empty cabinets. Basically ticket game heavy. Think Chuck-E-Cheeses without alcohol. We left after a kid ran into us at full tilt and employees turned a blind eye.Went hoping for old arcade games, left after wasting $2 and getting blown off by employees who really dont care.
Amazing retro feeling. took the wife and kids 10 and 14 and we all had a great time.
Staff is amazing and courteous, great games fair prices, highlyrecommended pretty small children for teens even grown ups have fun
It was ok. We were there at 10pm on a Friday night and there was hardly anyone there. They had a small section for old arcade games (which are free) and the rest of it you pay a 3 to 4 nickels per game. As a mom it reminded me alot of chuck e cheese but less spacious and quieter lol. Theres space for parties in there as well
Good games for a relatively cheap price compared to old theaters. Was here for a work party and thenold fashioned style was a nice change of pace with all the new digital arcades and the manager was super helpful and nice on top of it all.
Its so smelly inside here and it just looks so ghetto they have not renovated or made this place look nice at all its still looks like the same old place which is great and all but its boring and nothing is new here
This place is a blast to bring my younger brother and sister to. $2 entry per person last time I went and all the game prices are on five cent increments, usually topping out at about 30-40 cents at most.Only issue is playing the ticket games makes me feel like Im instilling gambling habits in my younger siblings haha.Weve come here a few times and will be coming back again.Have a few hours fun for 3-4 people with only having to spend $20-40
It was much fun but the bathrooms need some updating and or TLC
OUTSTANDING ESTABLISHMENT!!! Weve driven there on two different occasions from WI and its definitely worth the trip! The staff is friendly and patient, games are upkept and fun. The nickel factor is a big plus of course... Five stars EASY!!!
Was ok but half of the games just ate up the coins
Great pricing. Fun place. Nickels are used as tokens for the games. Pretty smart and original.
Good for ticket games and thats about it all the cool games have been moved out or broken
Great place to spend time with your kids
Nice workers, fun games. All work
Use to be great back in the day. Now most of the games are broken. Employees look like they hate being there. Basically never get new games so since I went there once after 4 years there were 1-2 new games in the main section, but of course 4-5 new games in the redemption section. The place super needs an uplift with its very dated decor.Redeeming is their soda. Never tried their food, but for some reason their soda is top notch.Update 1: Just came back after being gone for 7 months. My favorite game is STILL BROKEN WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS! Not only that there are even more games busted just sitting out in the open. The redemption side looks fine though. I had a hard time coming back this time, but never again.8/7/18 - Be careful about going to their website now as it has malware. They would know this if anyone who worked there EVER went to their own website or hired someone to take care of it.
My son has gone here for a few parties. The people there are always nice, but the place is super noisy and the food served is really not that great.
Great fun and place for the family!
Very disappointed. Almost every of the stand up arcade games from my childhood were unplayable. Broken controls or screens. Soo sad. I didnt want to see them Like that. When I mentioned it to the staff, they we rude like I was bothering them. Never going back.
Low cost fun! Gotta show kids how we used to do it!
Fun idea but a little run down. Many machines were not working
Fun spot for a nickle.
Staff was attentive and helpful. Many games but food was lacking.
Took the kids yesterday (ages 5 & 7). Spent a total of $17 and they had a blast. Money goes a lot further with nickels instead of quarters. Staff was super friendly and really patient with kids picking out prizes. Only recommendation would be to repair the number of machines that were out of order.
Love love LOVE his place. Cant go here enough. Great games. Not too cramped, and obviously low prices
A magical place. Be prepared to spend $10 for 3 hours of fun!
This is a true classic arcade. Kids and adults will have fun equally. You can come here every single weekend and not go broke. The atmosphere is a little old school but people dont come here for the atmosphere. They come here for the Games and they deliver for sure. Prizes here are more than fair. This is my go to arcade for sure. If you like throwing quarters in machines but not going broke. Try this place. I throw a quarter worth of nickels and dont feel phased one bit. Ill support this place till the day they close and Ill come even more frequently if they to decide to change it into a retro themed arcade. Ohhh yeah and if you run out of nickles, all of the games that are classic joystick arcade plays, are completely free :D
This place is great you can play way more for less
What a fun place! Luv the older games and the prices. Jaret was so kind and helpful. He and Avi were wanting to make happy customers. Jaret was very patient while my kids were deciding which prizes they wanted. He really wanted to make sure they were happy. This is a place we all want to come back to again. You are very lucky to have a great worker like Jaret (and Avi too)
This is a great arcade and is a great place for the family. A big part of the community, everyone knows about it
Awesome place, cool prizes, and kid friendly. Definitely worth coming!
Not what it use to be since I was a kid. Half the size and some games are out of order. Still a good value.
Their games are great and you can get awesome prizes. Their food is okay but some of the best games have been broken for months and I dont think they are going to fix them. Their staff is nice and the games that do work I give a ten out of ten. You should really come to this place.
All I need is $7 and my son plays for hours. Its sort of like an outdated peoples choice. It has old school arcade machines, most of them are free to play. Everything else is from 5cents to 35cents to play. They also have food there.
Really fun. Get a bag of nickel and won tickets to get prizes. Best part is in the back. FREE ARCADE FIGHTING GAMES!!!
Been here twice and its still a neat place for gaming. Room for improvement but one of the best arcades we have around this area
This place is awesome, only costs $2 to get in and you can play all the old school arcade games for free! Everything else takes nickels, but very low $, Mario kart, dance revolution, shooting games, pinball, air hockey, etc. They also have games that give you tickets and suitable for all ages, even small toddlers can play. The prizes here are great too, large variety for small # of tickets, your child can actually leave with a couple cool things, or save up to get something that takes thousands of tickets. The games give out lots of tickets too, so easy to accumulate, and kids love that. (as opposed to places that do everything on a swipe card its more exciting with )There is a snack bar too, chips candy, and also pizza, nachos.. EtcThis is such a hidden gem In Northbrook, in back of a strip mall, and its never super crowded. Theyre open late, 10pm sun-fri and 1am on weekends, 365 days/yr. You dont have to spend a ton of $$ to have fun for hours here. They have a large party room, coat rack, free wifi, even magazines to read. Ive been taking my son here for 10 years, many times as a Xmas tradition. We ️ it. Theres not many small Arcades like this anymore. Its clean and the staff is always friendly.
Cool place, reasonable prices on food and definitely games . Friendly staff, overall an excellent place to bring the family on a budget . $2 admission for a group and you buy bags of $5 in nickels
Heres a 5 star review google.
It was great for cheap family day out
A lot of fun for the money and nice staff! One improvement would be more staffing at the food bar.
Its busy,but great times!
