We made a trip to MASS MoCA today, our first outing as a family since this pandemic has begun. What a breath of fresh air so to speak, we felt normal. We booked time at the Kids Space for our daughters and enjoyed the Terrell exhibit immensely. We spent 4 hours in the museum, enjoyed an small dish of ice cream at the cafe, and left feeling content and happy. We could go again tomorrow as we werent able to see everything, but felt it wise given certain little ones attention span. Would highly recommend this for anyone wanting a little culture for their family!

We enjoyed Mass MoCA. A great way to spend an afternoon. We took three hours to wander through the museum. The galleries are spread across several connected old factory buildings that are a tremendous setting to the art. We greatly appreciated the fact there was not a lot of barriers or rope lines to hinder your ability to look closely and admire the artwork.

I love going to Mass MoCa because it makes me think about things I usually dont think about. Sometimes the art is strange but usually it has a very strong and compelling message behind it. Very calming atmosphere and the staff is friendly. Always very different yet familiar. Really great place to go.

What a museum to see! I loved every second of it, even the creepy bathrooms in the basement. All kidding aside, the art here is astonishing and downright beautiful. I was in awe of every piece although I may not have liked all of them. I appreciate the time each artist took to create each piece and ambience. Highly recommend this museum of creativity. Lots of photo opportunities!

Fabulous industrial re-use building with an interesting contemporary art collection, including a few James Turrell pieces for which you need to book ahead of time to visit. Good social distancing measures. There’s also a great brewery right next door.

Nice contemporary museum. remind me the Dia Beacon museum in New York. It was worth it stopped by this place while we passing through the New hampshire to the Maine.

Great museum. Have to reserve a spot to see James Turrell though, but we were assured that the exhibit will continue for 20 more years, so no worries there.But seriously if you want to see Turrell you should book ahead in a week or two.

In the era of Covid, I cant imagine a safer place to view high quality modern art. Tons of space, timed reservations, nice Cafe and shop. Art of the highest quality, well lit and displayed. If you havent been to a museum in a while, v and are feeling queasy about the idea, this is the place to start.

An amazing experience. Its a fantastic learning opportunity for those who love contemporary art and those who are new to it. Great for families, friends, dates, etc. Very nice and calming environment.

What a fantastic museum! Plan for 2.5 - 3 hours to see everything and buy your tickets ahead of time for a timeslot. Since it was easy to miss entire sections due to the layout it would be nice if there was a visual of art pieces on the map so knew what you did or didnt visit. The museum map just listed room names so we had no idea what we missed. I was disappointed with the gift shop though. I was hoping for souvenirs that represented the art/artists we saw but it was more generic items.

Big museum with plenty of modern art and lots of walking. I make maps for a living and I find theirs hard to follow - I missed at least one exhibit because I couldnt find it. Regardless, MOCA has lots of great art.

Mass MoCa is a fantastic museum to get lost in, cant say enough good things. All sorts of art for all sorts of tastes. It is a very large space so budget plenty of time if you plan to see everything. The James Turell exhibit is spectacular, very much worth seeing.The museum takes covid 19 precautions seriously, tickets must be booked for a time slot, masks must be worn, and certain exhibits are limited so that space can be respected.Lastly, be prepared to walk, the museum occupies multiple floors in multiple buildings. Look at the maps so you dont miss anything, its easy to get lost in the amazing exhibits.

I grew up in Massachusetts but hadn’t had the chance to visit the MoCA until this past summer.I was shocked to learn it’s one of the largest contemporary/modern/visual art museums in the US and it was right in my backyard.It’s in just about the furthest NW corner of MA so it’s about a 2:00 drive from the Worcester area and 2:45 from Boston without traffic.Admission is good for two days in a row and comes in at:- $20 Adults- $18 Seniors- $12 StudentsYou’re also able to buy multi-museum passes at a reduced rate for the other four main museums in the area (would recommend Norman Rockwell if you’re only doing a day trip).I thought MoCA was a really neat experience.The biggest draw for me were the (9) James Turrell exhibits. Not many places in the world you’re able to see so much of his work in once place. 2/9 are space limited so make sure to reserve online.I also really enjoyed Laurie Anderson’s Virtual Reality exhibits. Pretty cool to see artists and museums starting to fuse art and tech successfully.Most of all, I loved the space. It’s HUGE. It’s a renovated late 1800’s factor building and there are so many unique twists and turns among the galleries - it’s an experience in itself.Neat to see what they’re doing with the summer concert series/festival and impressive that they’re able to draw acts like Wilco and Maggie Rodgers.If you’re a Turrell fan, it’s a must see 5/5.If you’re simply making the long journey for modern art, it’s worth seeing but I wish they made a bit better use of such an expansive space. At time’s it felt like they curated for size/quantity over quality.

The museums art is beautiful, fun, abstract, and now include opinion of artists without the...art. I guess the CA portion of MoCA allows for an abstract variation of art that now include the dark opinions of artists. Ones that are tasteless and divisive and as far from art that one can possibly go, it almost looks like a gap in the budget allowed for artistic wordage. A lot of dark and negative energy flows at the top of this museum in the form of words, it will eventually permeate the beautiful community and will put a damper on creativity. Nothing good has ever been created with negative energy like that.

We loved our visit and hope to go again after COVID. The galleries were well spaced and there was so much to see.

Covid-19: timed ticket entry and all entrants are required to wear masks and stay 6 feet apart. The large space made it very easy to steer clear of other people. Staff were friendly and helpful. There are abundant benches in the museum and the elevators are easy to find if someone in your party has difficulty walking for extended periods of time. This is a contemporary art museum with a lot to explore.

One of a kind very large Art

The buildings were the show stopper for me. I loved meandering through the maze and discovering surprises around every corner. Art was curated well. I even grabbed a sandwich from the cafe and it was fresh and delicious! Will make another trip here next time Im in the area.

Spacious galleries hold collections that are pertinent to todays issues. Visited in the time of COVID. the staff were professional and facilities were sanitized, a safe outing IMO. Needed some culture again! 09.16.2020

Cool museum. Worth the drive but fair warning it is very far away from almost everywhere and the drive is very curvy so prepare for that.

Very unique Art museum. Every time i am in Western Ma i check it out. Even the building its in is cool. Worth the visit.

I love this gallery so much! They always have interesting pieces (sadly I don’t think I’m allowed to post images of the pieces themselves). I’ve come here a lot and there definitely are times when the art isn’t as interesting as other times, but generally it’s pretty fascinating and diverse. I especially love their use of the space for the art inside and out.

Attended for my birthday, if that tells you anything about how much I love it here. So grateful that this is so close to my home.

If you love modern art, this is the place for you! Amazing collection in a series of converted factory buildings. Theres a lot to see here so give yourself at least a full day if not two. Price of admission includes 2 days which is helpful.

If you like large scale installation contemporary art, this museum is a must-go. They have more space for exhibitions than an other museum I have gone to, lending itself to displaying monumental works of art that usually only would have a place to be shown outside, but also have galleries that show smaller works as well. The quality of the work, and the caliber of artists that show, is quite impressive as well.

A gem in the Berkshires area. Its a wonderful museum with many different installations. You will always be pleasantly surprised, and it has two cafes and a couple of restaurants next to it so you can enjoy a full day here.

A wonderful setting for so many different and diverse exhibits. The ability to be close to the works and in some cases to be able to touch and interact with them is even more amazing. The setting of an old mill town factory is moving and dramatic as well.The museum docents are very knowledgeable and ever present. Every staff member and volunteer was pleasant and helpful.There is so much to see and experience, the museum and its buildings are breathtaking and the Gramercy Bistro is a nice way to end your day there.

A great place to look at art, timed entry with masks. It is huge and had plenty of space to stay separated from other visitors during this COVID time.

I went to see the Laurie Anderson exhibit and to see the performance piece Fishing. I spent almost the entire day there. The exhibits are stunning and I love how they incorporate the local history and info into its structure. Beautiful and inspiring environment.

Great contemporary art exhibits, including Kidspace where kids can be creative, in a beautiful, massive space. Plenty of room to spread out. Spent whole day beating the heat. Enjoyed the food and drink options, as well.

So many beautiful art installations and inspirations in one place! Another nice treat is the great coffee shop next to it with yummy treats and healthy options. Cool souvenir shop in the museum. Theres also a fantastic BBQ place and amazing local brewery with such a great selection.For the kids, they give a scavenger hunt papee which was also thoughtful and cool!

Mass MoCA is truly contemporary art. Every time I visit there are new exhibits from artists around the world. It is easy to spend an entire day here and not manage to see everything.

MASS MoCA is a truly profound and one of a kind modern art museum. The museum has a number of thought-provoking exhibits that stimulate every sense you have. My recommendation is to sign up in advance for the virtual realtor exhibits. They are a unique use of the technology that challenges your senses and reality of what is real. I have never been to a museum like MASS MoCA and highly recommend it!

Really liked Mass MOCA.

I feel we have watched Mass MoCA grow up through the years from a young museum in an oversized suit to a fully realized arts destination. Also still perfectly suited for 2020 social distancing.

I have to say, I was very impressed. Its an engrossing experience - subtle and striking blend of industrial and contemporary architecture, interesting corridors, multiple wards, thoughtful curating throughout. Its so large as well! One of the biggest museums Ive ever been in, on the same scale as The Met and the Louvre. A destination worth seeking - its a special place.

Mass MoCA is a spectacular museum. Dynamic in many forms. This museum can be visited multiple times per year because they are always adding new exhibits. I cannot recommended James Turrells Into The Light, enough. Hindsight is by far my favorite. Its simply a dark room but, what happens is mind blowing.

This place had so much to look at from incredible contemporary artists! I will have to go back a few more times to get the full experience

Most likely one of the worlds best modern museum there is! All the great American artists plus a ton of events and concerts makes this a place to come back to many times! There’s also a very good brewery and an amazing bbq place! Also the architecture of the place it self it’s alone worth a visit

A truly stunning experience! We hadnt been here in years, but they have really done a nice job expanding and creating an awesome place to hang out. The area restaurants are a perfect touch to the grounds of the MoCA.

Gorgeous space. Super friendly, helpful staff. Beautiful exhibits and so varied there is something for everyone. Spend an afternoon. Spend the weekend. The town looks like a great little vacation spot.

Wow. Drove all the way from NYC and this place is so worth it. The Turrel spaces were amazing! Having so much space allows for exhibits that would be impossible in Manhattan.

When in Western Massachusetts, you should for sure make a point to check out Mass MoCA. This is by far one of my favourite museums, having been twice in the last few years.With a huge campus, consisting of multiple buildings, in what used to be a mill, there are a wide variety of permanent and touring exhibits to inspire and captivate you.While we were there, our favourite temporary exhibit was that of Trenton Doyle Hancock Mind of The Mound and Anne Lennoxs Pieces of Me, as well as the totally trippy yet beautifully created Into the Light exhibit by James Turrell.While we only visited for a couple of hours, we would suggest giving yourself at least two days to take it all in. I would also suggest booking a viewing slot for Into The Light as soon as you get there, as that exhibit books quickly.Words cannot fully capture the beauty that is found inside MASS MoCA.

I wasnt sure what to expect from this museum, but wow was I impressed. Its more like an experience than just an art museum. Even the buildings that hold the artwork feel and look like art themselves, with visual and auditory art incorporated into the tunnels between buildings. The Lure of the Dark exhibit was incredible. Everything was incredible! I am already trying to figure out when I can make the 2 hour drive to go back for another visit.

Theres something for everyone here. Came here for the first time last November and I didnt know what to expect. Everything is so visually interesting and creative. Some exhibits are interactive where you can step into a pitch black room and let your eyes do all the work and other you step into this white blank space and colors change all around you. Out of this world. Very cool spot worth checking out.

LOVE this place. The space is amazing and I love that they rotate their exhibits. Everything is so immersive and a nice variety of creative exhibits. Some of the staff lack a personality or are kind of grumpy.Ive been to museums all over the world...lots of the famous ones...and this is one of my favorites. The parking lot is a little small on a busy weekend, but thats my only complaint.Definitely check out this place. Its worth the drive.

You’ll get lost in this museum in a good way. It’s comprised of multiple old factory buildings and that means you weave in and out of huge doors and old raised tunnel/shafts. The installations are always changing, but my favorite is the airstream trailer which is outside next to the big pink “phalanges”, up the stairs of the boiler. Very easy to miss, and a shame if you do. Highly recommend visiting for a day, an hour, or just to see the grounds. Food inside the museum is just a-okay, but the food outside A-Okay Barbecue is very good.

Worked a music festival here and absolutely loved it. So thankful I got to see this place.

I have been coming back to North Adams since I was a child in the 80s and have witnessed the renewal of this town firsthand. This museum has continuously provided a center of gravity for art, culture, and transformation for North Adams. I will always find time to check out this place when I am in town. They do a good job of making this interesting for everyone by balancing their standing exhibitions with new installments and galleries. They also have a kids area and do scavenger hunts. I haven’t seen a concert here yet, but can imagine it would be great based on the uniqueness of the venue.

So happy to get back in a museum. Mass MOCA was amazing and the experience was even better because of Covid precautions. Timed limited entry. The Turrell light show in the white room was a feast for the eyes and mind! I suggest you blink while watching and see what appears behind your eyelids. Remember to read the placards on the walls near large windows; North Adams residents relay memories of what you would have seen out the windows from way back when. My feet are sore after 5 hrs, but my creative self has been rejuvenated. Buy tickets ahead, choose your entrance time and Turrell show and be ready to see contemporary artists blow your mind.

Great place to just enjoy a relaxing day $12 student $20 adult prices. Exhibits change pretty quickly so always a good place to come back to visit more than once. Buildings are a little confusing to get around even with a map.

Stunning mind blowing massive inspirational all this and so much more. Major kudos to the visionaries behind this.

Safety protocols in place made me comfortable. The lack of docents who can explain the works is a drawback. I left with a lot of questions.

Second time being here, and just as I remembered this place to be. It is so eclectic and extraordinary its worth the drive to Adams. Filled with originality, this place will stimulate those creative juices inside of you to go and create things yourself. We just came for the museum itself and it did not disappoint!

What a great museum! I was spending a weekend at a friends cabin and this place was an amazing escape for a rainy day. The exhibits are all very different, so you can easily spend a few hours exploring. The building itself is very spacious as well so you never feel overwhelmed by people.

A great space for all ages. If you are interested in art of any kind — interested in creative works, there is something for you here. Kidspace has a great space, an “art bar” to allow kids their creative time. If you spend the day — not hard to do with the numerous buildings, there is a great cafe with tasty, healthy meal options.

It will depend on what kind of art you like, but for me MASS MoCA is the best museum of its kind that Ive ever been to. The campus is sprawling, with many buildings to explore and trails to wander through. Building 6 is the museums most recent addition, but new shows seem to pop up regularly. The landscape, industrial and remade as commentary, is striking. You could easily spend a day soaking up the culture of the place.

It had an amazing selection of art, some with incredible contrast with paints, and others like some sculptures and woodworks with intriguing design. The only downside is its fricking expensive for the food and souvenirs. Literally $14.95 for a small notepad that fits in ur pocket I can find one that looks cooler, will last longer, and is way cheaper. Heres some photos of the art.

One of the largest gallery in the world. We spent 2 days in there discovering art from famous and infamous artists. It is very well curated.

Mind blowing contemporary museum that doubles as a beautiful wedding venue.

A must visit museum. 4 of the installations require reservations so make sure you make them in advance if coming on a busy day.We live in Rhode Island and we’d been wanting to come to Mass MoCa for about two years and finally found the perfect occasion- the 3D concert of Flying Lotus that took place inside the museum and oh boy, what an awesome experience! The show was sick and we got to spend the whole next day exploring different parts of the the museum. Turrell’s Hind Sight was a great meditative experience and we really enjoyed all of his pieces.

This place is so unique. Its an incredible space for displaying and experiencing large works of art. Many interactive works as well as larger paintings. The venue, a renovated and converted mill, is a work of art in its own right. Dont take my word for it, just check out a couple of these photographs of the structure.

Large art space with interesting exhibitions. The light and be exhibit are pretty cool but they are by appointment only. Your ticket gives you admission to the space for two days, so dont worry if you dont get to see everything!

This review is for a visit in January 2020:I’d only recommend this museum to someone who is a modern art fanatic. I should have known I was in the wrong place when I saw folks leaving wearing trench coats and faded overalls, but i still plunked down the $20 admission fee. Of all the exhibits and displays only 4-5 were enjoyable. I do appreciate they restored the old mill that was such an important historical piece of North Adams.

We attended with students for a field trip. There was so much to see! Great exhibits, opportunities to interact with several of them. Very unique and creative art. Cafe in site with a variety of meal options, as well as homemade ice cream for dessert. Gift shop had offerings in a range of prices.
