Carrie Mc Lain Museum

Fascinating exhibits about both the native Inupiat history and Nomes unique gold rush history. Definitely a must-see in town and a great way to spend a windy or wet afternoon. Prices are also very affordable - $4 for local adults and $7 for visitors. A small gift shop has memorabilia.

Great little museum for such a small place. Quality exhibits help tell the story of the native people and how Nome came to be. One can only wonder at the intrepid spirit of folks living up here but their pride shows in this nice museum.

I try to visit the community museums when I visit remote parts of Alaska. This beautiful new building features both a museum and library. The museum was full of natural and local history, information about flora and fauna, and native history and artifacts. It is not a large place, but the information and displays are comprehensive, especially for a visitor to the town trying to take in and digest the information in one helping. Its an excellent supplement to the experience of being in Nome.

Shows so much of the rich cultural diversity of the area. Learned a great deal!

The Cultural Center is very intriguing and I much appreciate all the native art in their collections. There is much of Nomes history to be learned here as well as from surrounding villages.
