A hidden gem. Definitely not an easy course for most but a satisfying challenge. Really unique holes and in great shape. Love the overall theme of the course. Will definitely be playing Purgatory again.
Great course. Tons of bunkers and rolling hills. Not too many trees but very tough course. Greens and tee boxes were in great shape. Will return when I am in the area
Beautiful venue, bad food and staff service.Leading up to the day of the event, Samantha was attentive and helped organize the day of details, but the day of, it was a different story and a huge let down. The food the day of our wedding was cold, bland, and very small portioned compared to what we were presented with at our tasting. Many of our guests expressed how disappointed they were with the food. To have our guests tell us that was heartbreaking because they will always remember the poor quality of food. For dessert we had wanted both cake and our cheesecake served, but unfortunately, our cake was not cut, so we were left with taking our cake home and out a lot of money. This review finds both my wife and I very shocked and disappointed because we believed it would be nothing shy of perfect, especially with how attentive Samantha was leading up to the event.
Highly recommended, came down for a weekend trip from Michigan. Out of the 4 top 10 tracks we played this was a step above the rest. Shot makers course with lighting greens, wanted a solid test and that’s what we found here. We will for sure be back !
It was my first time there the course was absolutely perfect club house was one like I have not seen before I will definitely be going back when Im in town
Awesome...in every regard.Superb conditionExcellent GreensChallenging...however very playableGreat Staff
Greens are good. It needs some cosmetic improvements around the whole course to be worth the money.
I love playing this course with my sons. The course is challenging but fun to play. We really enjoying our time here.
Just had an annual golf trip with 16 guys and we had a great time. We spent Friday at Purgatory and it lived up to what I had read online. The course was in great shape (aside from some of the paths as mentioned in other posts). I believe the area got a lot of rain the week leading up but the course wasnt soggy and drained well. It also appeared a lot of sand was used not just for bunkering but for the course itself which would have helped with the drainage. The clubhouse was incredibly nice and the food was great too. Reasonably priced for a course of this level I thought as well. Would highly recommend. One thing that would be really cool is if the club was able to team up with some other local courses to offer a stay-and-play or was able to buy up some more land to do something on their own. We ended up staying at The Fort, which was also nice.
A beautiful and challenging golf course. Certainly worth the price of admission from time to time.
Very nice course...and drains EXTREMELY well considering the deluge weve had latelyPick your tees appropriate to your game & youll have a fun challengeAll greens are consistent speed & roll true
In excellent condition, great layout, very nice facilities, friendly staff
Great condition. Do not play the purgatory tees unless you are long. As a 7 handicap I shot in the mid 80s it will punish you.
Awesome food!! Excellent service!!
Love this place, great host of people, friendly, Beautiful place to be outside, challenging course
This course has been on my list for some time now. I really enjoyed playing here and if I get another opportunity, I will heed the advice of a couple of others and use more 3 woods and Hybrids off the tees. Just FYI, there could be some better mapping and the cart paths need some attention.
Easily one of the more challenging courses I have played in the area. However it is still a lot of fun. Dont be too proud to put the big driver away and play smart safe shots because getting off the fairway will penalize you quickly.
Held my daughter’s wedding and reception at Purgatory in early August. Everything from the preparation to the sparkler ending was outstanding. It didn’t hurt that the weather was beautiful and with the incredible setting it made for an unforgettable experience.I recently attended another reception out of state, and the food at Purgatory wats heads and tails above they venue.I really think it is a hidden gem in the area for weddings and receptions.
You had better be a good golfer if you want to do well on this golf course it is a real challenge
Great course and it was in great condition. It’s been a very wet spring and the course was still in great condition; greens were fantastic. The staff in the pro shop were extremely kind as well.
Very hilly, fun though
Absolutely beautiful reception for my bestfriends. Love the atmosphere and the food ofcourse was amazing. Staff was so friendly and I had the best time tonight.
One of the funnest tests of my golfing skills ever. Always play here when in Central Indiana.
Took my son for his birthday because we never golfed there and wanted to do something special ! Payed premium Saturday rates made our tee time. Started on time first 9 holes was great know one pushing us and know o e holding us up having a blast ! Turned the curve to the next 10 th hold knee deep with a 3 man best ball tournament !! Waited about 5 minutes each time to hit !!! Sorry but for $80 dollars a person we shouldnt have been put through that, there should have been a range controlling this situation ! 51/2 hours is to long for 2 people !! The course was a challenging coarse ! Just wish we had a heads up about the tournament !!!!
The food is phenomenal
Great turf!
First time to play this course and I thought it was enjoyable. Course is fairly open but it has lots of hazards to make up for that.
A real challenge of a golf course. If you love pain this is the course for you. Beautifully maintained.
Been there every so often for class reunions for some of the plague off they go in and to the pro shop go in there and get changed and play golf come back take a shower and get ready for our class reunions golf course if you love golfing
Nice course layout. Condition ok. Food was pricey
I’ve worked with winners on the PGA Tour, so I’ve seen a lot of golf courses. I’m biased because I live 15 minutes from the course, but it is the best ever! Proud to say it’s my home course and a true test!
One of the best course designs I have every played. Each hole is unique and has multiply ways to play
The course was beautiful. A few areas were under repair and some bunkers needed sand, but overall it was in very good shape. The variety of tees allows golfers to choose an appropriate challenge level. The price was very good for a course of this quality.
Played this week with my son after a several year absence. There’s really no excuse not to make the drive. In terrific shape and a top shelf layout. Has the look and feel of a Ben Crenshaw design. The twilight rates can’t be touched for this quality of course. I’ll definitely be back sooner than later!
Excellent t track with challenging holes!
Very challenging course made a bit more difficult by the extensive rains and soft areas on the course, but its fun to play.
One of the most challenging tracks out there.. I can tell the superintendants are a-1
It was a pleasure working along side Samantha and her team. All of us at Lights Out Entertainment Wedding DJs cant say enough good things about this venue. If you are looking for a ballroom with a Rustic and Chic feel, that still has all the elements of classy elegance You must consider Purgatory for your wedding reception. You can also have your ceremony at the course as well! We know we can count on the staff to work as a team which is critical to your wedding days success!
We used Purgatory as our reception venue were not disappointed! The staff, especially the coordinators, were amazing. They understand the stakes for weddings and receptions, so they were on top of it. But, most importantly, they were there when we tried to contact them and treated us like we were the most important group/party theyve had, even though they do many of these.
Great course and layout. In my opinion, it is not as difficult as everyone makes it out to be. I am a 7 handicap and have shot 72 from the blue tees three times and 71 once. Everything about the course is to my liking; tight, short fairways, rolling greens that dont break as much as they read, thick rough, and punishing heather (when they dont cut it). Will be back next year.
Great course. Course difficulty varies greatly depending on what tees you use. As a hacker, the course was not as difficult as I was expecting playing off the white tees, but a challenge nonetheless. Challenging greens, very much a links style course. Really did enjoy my round.
Good courseGood food, nice people, reasonabl green fees
Links style course. A touch of Scotland in Central Indiana
Greens way to hard to put
The layout itself is very unique and challenging, however everything else left A LOT to be desired. First off, the lady at the snack bar was slow and very rude. It took us 15 minutes just to get some food and beverages before our round...and the prices are outrageous! The carts have huge GPS units in them, but out of the 6 carts in our group only 3 units were functional. The course condition was underwhelming. For $79 I expected the course to be lush, however it was anything but. The bunkers that were claimed to be crushed limestone were nothing more than river sand and were like hitting off a cart path. And speaking of cart paths...one would expect paved cart paths around the entire course, but alas once past the tee boxes the path turned to dirt. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed being on the golf course, but we had looked forward to playing Purgatory since I set up the group a few months ago and we were all very disappointed. We live in Fort Wayne and can play courses in much better condition for half the price and we dont have to drive 90 minutes.
I do not want stumps at my wedding.Reasons to not book for wedding:1. Far away from the city2. High priced3. Golfing occurs during your wedding, with the potential to get hit by a flying golf ball4. Limited selection for decor5. Limited food selections
If you get a chance dont pass it up.
Best value of golf in indy
Great shape, tough course.
Huge smooth rolling greens, multiple tee boxes, over a hundred bunkers, and ever-changing winds make this a different course every time you play it. Ive played every top course in the state and this is definitely in the Top Five.
Great facilities, challenging course. The many tees allow you to play distinct courses each time. OK for 10+ handicappers, fun otherwise.
There are a lot of traps and hazards. The lovely name of the golf course and of each hole are great. There is a unforgetable golf course.
Great greens but was disappointed in course. My expectations must have been too high. Back nine was much neater than front.
Great place. I have played the course once but this time we were there for a group event and it was wonderful.
Course is in great shape. Very thankful to them for hosting our all star Jr. PGA game last night...they did a great job.
Food was great & creative
Great course that can challenge every level of golfer. The staff is friendly and you feel welcome from the moment you arrive.
Great course, great staff, great place.
Went for an event. Nice location, but there were disturbing pictures of seemingly under age ballet dancers in provocative positions all over. No clue what that was about.
Challenging, lots of traps, but enjoyable. Ask pro shop for combo tee options.
Always a good time, great staff, great value. You will have a lot of fun!
Very challenging course. Very nice setup all around. GPS on the carts is nice. Nice staff.
Nice course, a lot of sand so being a shovel! Or a beach chair. Lol
Course is amazing but no more GPS.
Every golfer should have the opportunity to play a course that provides cause for reflection. Thoughtfully designed, Purgatory provides a canvas for golfers to understand how to interact with a course. Purgatory is soberingly different than other courses in undulation, length, use of hazards, and opportunities to be intentional with each shot. There are no uninspired throw-away holes on this track (it is worth it to check out the yardage book on their site). From every tee box, there is a fair opportunity to be fairly challenged appropriate to your handicap (and creativity). This is a course by which all others are measured for those who have played it.Value for greens fees, practice facilities, course condition, estimated waits, overall experience, is unmatched in the Midwest, and the GPS enabled carts help keep the player informed and the pace of play moving. It is a course that can be walked, and the giant log cabin clubhouse is a welcome retreat at the end of the experience.
Great course. There are many tee selections for any skill level.
One of my favorites. Always in great shape.
Challenging course, very nice clubhouse and bar
Good time
Outstanding course, great people to work with. Will definitely play again.
Nicest course I have played in Indiana so Far. Price was kind of high but the course was very enjoyable and in great shape.
Awesome clubhouse, the course is challenging, but is well laid out, and is a lot of fun to play!
Gorgeous place for wedding venue, and the golf course rocks too.
