This place is closed

This place is going through a tough time. I think the owner, who is usually always there and very friendly and helpful, is experiencing some health issues and his hired help is running his business into the ground. Between my mom and I, we have stopped at the store 7 times during business hours in the past 2 months and they were always closed. These were on all different days of the week and weekend. One morning I waited for them to open and watched 2 other cars come up to give them business, but they left because the store didnt open. I thought they must be closed permanently? I went back an hour later, didnt look like any changes, but I tried the door and this time it opened! The curtains were drawn, and the open sign was not on, but I walked in. 2 men were there talking in the back. I yelled hello and waited by the front register. They ignored me for several minutes, then made their way to the front and continued to work around me and still ignore me. By the time he finally made it around to the register, I was pretty frustrated. As he was checking me out, I said he should probably turn the open sign on as I had seen other cars come and leave since they looked closed, and that I had thought they were permanently closed recently. He explained that that was the owners fault that he doesnt show up on his days due to health problems (Mon, Tues, Wed) I didnt tell him I had been stopping by on other days too and they werent open because he got an attitude and told me that he has kids and a life and thats y he wasnt open on time. Very rude. Im pretty sure he hasnt been opening the shop at all, as I think I just lucked into walking in even though they looked closed.I hope the owners health gets better and he comes back. I like supporting small business, but I plan to take my business elsewhere till he gets his shop back into order. I feel bad that he is entrusting his business to this employee who is running it into the ground. I wish someone would tell him!

This store is necessary for the Newton area. Pet supplies can be found there that are not being carried at Wal-Mart, at grocery stores, or even at the farm stores.This business saves me from being forced to make untimely trips into the city.It is a large place that is being run by part time staff, but they try their best to be open when you need them. Also, they post any changes in their hours on the door.I certainly hope they can stay open. The staff is always helpful and certainly knowledgeable as well.

Found what I needed. Thermometer for my fish tank. Didnt work though but itd cost me more to get there to return it than I paid for it so I guess oh well. Bought a heater too. It worked ok

It was a sad day. Pet world has closed down for good

Get a lot of my snake food here. Better prices, and better quality, than the big box stores. Personal service is a big plus.

Very friendly people and nice supply of pets and accessories

Lots of stuff, the building just isnt as new or fancy looking as the bigger chain stores like Petco. Youll find some pretty cool stuff in here. They even have their talking parrot, Harley, who is a joy to see and talk to each time i go in.

Id leave 0 stars if it would let me. Drove 70 miles for crickets and the place never opened. Were there at 11, and went by again at noon... sign said opens at 10... very unhappy. If they never open I wonder how the animals inside are being taken care of.

Tried calling multiple times and still got no answer. Website says they are open but I can’t get an answer and you can’t leave a callback number because the mailbox is full!

Nice store. Animals looked well treated. Courteous and knowledgeable staff.Also go see the baby guinea pigs!

Very helpful found everything I needed.

Last 6 months tried to buy feeder rat. Haven’t had any available. Not impressed with the owner. Had to drive to Wichita.

I really liked this store. Prices on most items were fair. Selection was also fair. The floor space is huge in comparison to what the inventory is. The stores floor could use a little professional help. It appears to be family run and owned. I hope he has a decent profit margin.

You can tell theyre struggling to stay open, but best place to get pets and supplies in Newton. Fish, turtles, snakes, birds, gerbils, rabits, etc.

Do not buy pets or pet food from this store pets are kept in very poor condition. They do not allow cameras for this reason.

We were there at 10 when they were supposed to open and wasnt open. We needed fish and filter and some algae for tank. So if they arent going to be open put the business as closed down. Yay 10 minutes late and they open finally.

We was not impressed at all. We seen the sign while driving by and decided to stop. A lot of clutter especially back by the fish. Fish tanks were gross overgrowing with algea. Some tanks couldnt even see into them to see what was in them. First impression was not a good one.

Nice selection of animals but they are very underkept. The parrot needs its beak trimmed,And most of the animals are dying.

This place looked like a ghost store! Nothing was in this place. No animals! A tank of gold fish! Unhappy!

Horrible! Was speaking to my husband on the phone about what to pick up there. The owner told him he was price checking and to leave her store! No problem I will take my business elsewhere!

Animals are kept in horrible conditions. Voiced my concern twice in person, and nothing got done . Eventually I reported this store to state inspections. Hopefully some changes will be made.

Only 2 kinds of expensive dog food. Dying animals. But friendly guy.

I have always had great service there. I buy supplies there for my fish tank, and oddly enough, I go there to by tanks and heating pads for newly hatched chickens.
