This was a lot of fun and a wonderful diverse in these pandemic times. For me, the puzzles were the right level of challenging and required us to think and work together but werent impossible. Our host Eyton was great. Our group of 3 finished with 5 minutes to spare. One member of our group had always wanted to do an escape the room but was worried about being claustrophobic, so for her it was actually better to do a virtual room anyway.
This was my first escape room experience and I had no idea what to expect. I had a fantastic time! I was with a group of four and there was another group of four with us. 8 seemed like the perfect number. We finished with two minutes to spare. There were a lot of clues to figure out, so different people were working on different clues simultaneously. It was definitely challenging, but once you start putting things together it’s so much fun.
Just did the online escape room at it was a lot of fun. Hope they come out with more soon. JP is awesome and helped us figure out what we were doing but didnt give clues unless we were desperate.
They hired my little brother to do some remote game managing for them and he was super excited! They then took it back and where like never mind without warning!!!!When he called to talk to a supervisor the supervisor blew up at him and was saying things to the effect of Well you are being super rude so we will not hire you (despite the fact they took the job away to begin with). Now i listened in as he was making the phone call, and they can say he was rude all they want: But they where the ones being rude and unprofessional. They need to better communicate when they are hiring so they dont screw with people like they did this, and the supervisor in question needs to improve there customer service skills.
My kids loved it. Party went great. Everyone is happy. Not cheapest but easiest by far. The concept is great- parents don’t even need to do anything, just invite guests, show up and collect presents.
I came here a week or two ago, and this review is long overdue. I came in to do Grimm with my family, and while we needed extra time to escape, the experience was wildly fun and entertaining. For those who enjoy logic puzzles and brainteasers, this is for you. Our game operator, Noam, was better than we could have hoped for. My entire family loved her! She was highly charismatic and entertaining, giving us helpful hints and keeping us engaged. I’ll admit that a few times I was tempted to give up, but her smile made me want to keep going! Book her as your game operator if you get the chance, you won’t regret it. Happy escaping!
The 7 14-15 year old boys who were at our party had a blast! The pizza was great and the staff who helped our party were attentive. A great experience. Id recommend it.
Thank you Justin and Joel!I brought my 7 year old and 4 year old here with me, and we did the Midnight Carnival, AND WE GOT OUT. What an amazing time! Now the rest of the story: With school freshly canceled from the virus we were looking for fun things to do. I was impressed with Puzzle Breaks commitment to safety and cleaning, so it seemed like a completely safe, albeit unorthodox, activity to pursue. Im so glad we did!Ive done a number of escape rooms and 2 things REALLY stood out about this one: the UNIQUENESS and the DIFFICULTY. Right from the moment I walked in, I thought, This is going to be good. The circus theme and the cool contraptions really make an impression. There were SOOO many things to do. Not hard at all to keep the kids engaged at the outset. Id say more, but Im not going to spoil the surprises.Im not going to lie though, 4 years old is too young for this. Little dude had fun for most of it, but he made the room harder because he was like his only little puzzle to manage: how to keep him entertained and engaged throughout and away from mischievous behavior. But the 7-year-old was able to solve some things that I did not; sometimes adults overthink things and miss the obvious and that was the situation here. How did we end up getting out in time with just 1 adult? Pacing and clues more than anything. I asked for a clue whenever we had stalled for too long just to make sure we kept moving. Ended up using quite a few clues but also got to solve plenty on our own too. Anyway, it all added up to a lot of fun.Forgot to mention, even the 4-year-old found a critical object that Im reasonably sure I would have not found in time, so bring everyone who has any interest or ability. They can make the difference between success and failure! Getting out with less than 2 minutes left was very gratifying, especially for the kids, but we would have had a lot of fun still if we hadnt.Definitely coming back here for the other 2 rooms at some point but with reinforcements.
We brought a group of 8th graders here for the evening, and they had a blast! Camila offered just the right amount of help (when needed) to keep them on track, and they kept saying later in the evening how they’d love to come back. Thank you!
Really fun for the whole family. Warning: super challenging. Would recommend to play the game with a huge group. Makes it more fun.
Went here as a corporate event. The staff was very professional and helpful from beginning to end. They answered every question and made us feel comfortable. During the game they made it fun and hard at the same time. We chose the hardest room as a way for team building and purposely didnt want clues or hints so we can work together better. Would def recommend and come back again!
Great experience! The staff was friendly, the puzzle was clever, and we made it out with a few minutes to spare! Our group played the Grimm room: there was a decent balance of logic puzzles, math puzzles, ciphers, riddles, etc. The room is well put together, with some really clever tricks and hidden clues. We loved it! We appreciated having staff there to help, even though we rarely asked for any guidance at all. My group was certainly an obstinate bunch --- several of whom design puzzles and games themselves --- and we all had a blast! My only critique would be that some of the individual puzzles took a fair amount of time to work through, only to prove relatively unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Our group certainly strove for completion points and so tried to cross every T, but I could see a smaller group getting stuck dedicating time to puzzles that only end of providing a tiny bit of forward progress overall. If you have a puzzle-minded group of friends, Puzzle Break Newton is a great place to go!
The price was just ridiculous. I honestly dont know how good or big this place is because we were turned off by how expensive it was for just 4 people. Been to other places for half the price.
I feel so bad as this is a long overdo review. My company hosted a team event here in March 2019 and we had an absolute blast! Ian was our in room guide and was great to work with. One of the guys in our team was hesitant about doing the escape room but he ended up loving it! Im planning another company event for September and was able to talk my boss into doing Puzzle Break. I cant wait!If youre looking for a really awesome company team event location or just a fun thing to do with family or friends you have to do Puzzle Break; I promise youll love it!!!
We had my son’s 9th birthday party in the midnight carnival room. The kids had an amazing time and were thrilled when they suddenly found themselves out of the room! The puzzle guide did a great job encouraging the kids along the way. My daughter now wants her birthday party there and they both can’t wait to go back.
Came here with my girlfriend to do the Grimm Escape a few weeks ago. When we walked in we were immediately greated with a smile by our game host Noam who did not waste time. She explained the rules to us in an engaging and humorous way and left a smile on our faces before we even started. Once she led us to the room we had puzzles with varying amounts of difficulty. Noam was patient with us and quiet, but attentive. She offered us clues when we needed them and did not hover. We had an amazing time although we did not escape. Will definitely be coming back! I would highly recomend you book with her, she was wonderful.
WE HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME!!!We did this as a corporate event for team building, and I was SUPER impressed with the entire experience. Ian was immediately responsive and very attentive to our needs -- excellent customer service all around. The super flexible scheduling and deposit made it easy to ensure that our group could have private rooms to ourselves, and still accommodate any add-ons without needlessly overpaying for people who didnt show up.On the day-of the event, the Hosts who helped explain the game and guide us through the puzzle were serious pros. I really cant say enough good things about the entire experience. Despite being made up of some really smart folks (no, seriously!), neither of our groups escaped, but we all still had a fantastic time, which I think is the sign of a truly great Escape Room experience. A+++, 100% would do again!
We celebrated my son’s 10th birthday at Puzzle Break this week and everything was perfect. The Midnight Carnival Room was challenging and super fun for the kids, the pizza/drinks and room set up was all inclusive of the party and done perfectly. Best of all was Ian, who helped us from start to finish with everything. He was excellent with the kids and a pleasure to work with. His exceptional service truly made our party, the kids had a blast! Thank you!
Very fun escape room experience. Their game masters are very nice, informative and helpful if you need hints. Great price for the experience as well!
I had a birthday party for my 10 year old son and it was a blast! The staff was very helpful and supportive. They provided all the necessities for the party and I just had to bring the cake. The kids enjoyed their time at Midnight Carnival and had a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend this place for birthday parties.
Great fun! Were planning to go back in a few weeks to do another room!
Really friendly staff and would give us just enough hints to be able to solve the puzzle without feeling guided or stuck. Puzzle was really well made. Looking forward to try the other rooms.
We had a great time celebrating my sons 12th birthday at Puzzle Break Newton. The staff were so helpful in planning the party and during the party itself. All we had to do was show up with a cake! My sons friends had so much fun that one of them is having HIS birthday party there next month!
A great time! Only bring your friends who are smarter than you.
Warning: the virtual game is identical to the physical escape room and not a different game as they claim.
Celebrated My daughters BDay there, had great time, cool and helpful staff.
Was really fun! But there was no way our office crew could have completed the entire challenge. Would definitely want to try again!
Amazing place to have a birthday party for my daughter. They made it so simple and easy as a parent -- all I had to do was show up with a cake! And the kids had a BLAST. They couldnt stop raving about it. Thanks for making it a breeze.
My 10 year old daughter and her friends really enjoyed this. We werent sure at first as she had not done this before but the staff was great at making it fun for them. We were very impressed and would recommend Puzzle Break Newton.
We did two rooms back to back, the Grimm and 20 Leagues. We have done at least 10 rooms in 4 states. Both rooms were excellent. We loved that the puzzles were not all linear so we could all participate at the same time working on different puzzles. We loved that the rooms were fully lit so youre not fighting over the light from a single flashlight. We loved that the rooms were large so everyone could fit easily. We loved that the puzzles were well thought out and not dumb and different and challenging. We loved that there were plenty of things to write on so we could solve the puzzles and werent fighting over one pad of paper and one pencil. The waiting room is not fancy like other places but they put all their $$$ and energy into the rooms which we really appreciated.
Regina and Joe made it all so nice for our group. Recommend it for a small group (2-4ppl) or a private event (12 ppl). We enjoyed Puzzle Break Newton each way. Tips below!TipsTry it out with a few people. See if it is your cup of tea. It surprisingly works well for adults and/or youth. Two of us tried it out in October, really liked it and had a party there in November. You may go back a couple of times.Talk with Regina and Puzzle Break staff. They were nice, honest and helpful. They directed us to the right games for our people, making sure we had a great time. They also made event planning a breeze.Choose the best game for you. 20,000 Leagues was challenging (adult-level) and fun for a mix of mostly adults. Midnight Carnival worked for a group of mostly youth. Cant wait to try Grimm.Be smart about parking. Newton loves to give parking tickets especially in Newton Centre. Get a good spot. Use enough quarters.Check the location. It is a little tricky to find it the first time. The entrance is on the east corner of the building close to Santander Bank. You then walk downstairs. Second door on the left.If you have a group, there here are more tips...8 to 12 people can work really well. Corp/Friend group and even can work for middle school or high schoolers. Talk with Regina. Puzzle Break does so much to make a party easy. Bills Pizza was quite good. Everyone liked it though slightly greasy. Be sure to get a good group leader. Joe was incredible with us - enthusiastic, pleasant and helpful. Joe and Regina made the event work much better than one we had at five wits. Puzzle Break was better organized, cooperative and well-executed. Our schedule was 1. pizza/drinks, 2. orientation, 3. escape room (almost 1 hr), 4. dessert and 5. puzzles (gave snake puzzles to everyone).
We had so much fun at Puzzle Break! Great rooms and puzzles, fabulous, friendly staff. Definitely worth 60 minutes of your time. Go take a Puzzle Break!
What a fun way to celebrate my sons 10th birthday! He and 9 of his friends wen ton the Midnight Carnival adventure and loved it. The staff was very professional and fun, and place itself is very clean and easy to get to. Will visit Puzzle Break again to check out the other two stories!
Ambiance is very poor compared to any other escape room. Puzzles? yes, youll get those. Escape room? Not so much. They cant even do the minimum of getting WiFi connected cameras and two-way radios so they have the game master stand in the room with you.
We had my son’s 12 birthday party there. They handled everything - we just showed up with the cake and goodie bags. The boys loved interacting with each other and thoroughly enjoyed the event. The boys managed to solve the puzzle and fun was had by all, while parents were able to hang out. Highly recommend !
My daughter had her 16th birthday party there and the Puzzle Break staff was great. They took care of the pizza, drinks, and cleanup. My daughter and her friends liked the escape room part as well. A great experience, highly recommend!
Escape rooms can be fun. Puzzle break has some well designed challenges. The game masters are all friendly. With plenty of nearby bars and restaurants, its not a bad place to spend a night with friends.
Zac is the best! Def book with him. Didn’t give too many hints but helped when we needed it. was perfect
We took our 4 th grade Girl Scout Troop to Puzzle Break and they had a great time. There was someone in the room with us the whole time who gave the girls just enough help to get them to the next step while still feeling like they did it all on their own. The girls had a great time!Thank you from Troop 62738 (Newton)
I brought two grandsons, ages 11 and 8 and another 11 year old friend on Saturday. We had an amazing time! Jonathan was our guide and he was great! He was patient, enouraging and helpful just at the right times AND was a pleasure to have on our adventure! There were three other participants who worked well with our younger group. Everyone worked together beautifully, WE ESCAPED in the nick of time and I would highly recommend Puzzle Break Newton for a fun family and/or friend experience!
Perfect birthday party for my 11 year old son and 9 guests. We did the Midnight Carnival. The room was wonderfully decorated and the kids had a great time playing the game. The package with pizza and drinks made it easy for mom and dad. The staff was friendly, helpful, patient with the kids high energy, and seemed to really enjoy their work. My son said it was his best birthday party ever!
This place is a pleasant break from overcrowded and simplistic escape rooms that you find popping up all over. The puzzles are limited to reservations and are very expensive for only 1 hour of time (why I am taking off one star), but they are satisfying, challenging and clean.Recommended.
I’ve been to a lot of escape rooms and this was by far the worst. The staff stays in there with you which is uncomfortable because you have someone staring over your shoulder the entire time. Usually there is a 3 hint maximum, but our guy just kept on giving us clues and coddled us through everything. Did not allow us to do anything on our own. Also, there was a small child with us which was annoying. They were loud and shouting out incorrect answers the whole time. Small children should not be placed with other adults who do not want that. Overall, I hated this place and I’m never coming back. Good for small kids and people who have never done an escape room before.
I planned a company outing at Puzzle Break and we had a great time. 16 people split into two teams and went into rooms at the same time, Midnight Carnival and Grimms Forrest Both teams had a lot of fun. There were several different kinds of puzzles in each room, logic, math, map reading, reading comprehension; so people gravitated toward their strengths to work together. The rooms were beautifully themed and the puzzles were fun. Highly recommend.
Puzzle Break was a great venue for hosting a bar mitzvah party for our son and his classmates. The kids had a great time and the staff couldnt have been easier to work with both before and during the event. They were organized, professional and truly lovely-- their efforts allowed us to really relax and enjoy the celebration. Highly recommend!
Fun experience and a good bonding opportunity for our group!
We took a class on a field trip there. It was a great bonding experience. The kids all had fun. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely go there again!
I brought a group of high school students to escape two of the rooms at Puzzle Break, and everyone had a blast! One group escaped, but with many hints, and the other group (who opted to ask for less hints) did not escape. The students were talking about the event for the entire rest of the day and beyond. The difficulty was a bit higher than we anticipated, but the group still had fun.
PuzzleBreak was wonderful! I organized a room for a team building exercise with my co-workers and it was great! They have someone in the room with you throughout the hour in case you need a hint (or four!). The staff are lovely and super accommodating. We will certainly be back, and hopefully next time well escape!
Really enjoyed this. We had just two people in our party, so we had to move fast. The employee in there with us (Nathan) was very good about giving us clues if we were stuck, without giving too much away, and letting us think about what he was saying instead of just giving us the answer. It was the perfect amount of help, and we needed it at times. The room itself was fairly low tech, but it was still a really good time, and time absolutely flew by. We came close to finishing, and Nathan showed us the final few steps (for closure). I would definitely recommend this as a fun group activity. Good spots in Newton center to go out for Food/Drink afterwards.
Nathan did a great job. This was more problem solving than hands on
This is my daughter and thier friends review. They enjoyed it today and they want to go back again.
From start to finish Ian took care of EVERYTHING for us in planning our sons 10 y.o. birthday party. All we had to do was bring the cake and party favors. Imani the host was fantastic with the kids. Highly recommend Puzzle Break for your next birthday party.
Good riddles that were roadblocked by a few gimmicks. If you like a challenge without hints, might not be for you - employee said that only 1 group has ever solved one of the rooms without hints. And those with hints had 8-10% success rate.
Booked a birthday party for 11 year old boy. Very well run. Kids loved it.
Overall we had a good experience in the Grimm escape room. It had a variety of puzzles that were pretty complex and required a number of different skill sets. The facilitator told us to ask for clues if we needed them but it ended up she just gave them to us anyway. We may not have finished the puzzle without the clues but it left us with not much of a sense of accomplishment when we did end up escaping the room. To make it better I think there should be a more standard way to give clues and might require that the team actually ask for them before theyre given.
This was our second time here and both times were fantastic. The staff are great with the kids and the puzzle rooms are well thought out.
What looked to be a room with only a few puzzles turned out to be enough for the 6 of us in a 12 person room. Lots of critical thinking in the Circus room to be successful, but worth the trip. My only knock is that there is someone in the room with you... Not a big fan of that setup, but it may just be a perference thing that didnt interfere with the room itself.
I planned a team building event at Puzzle Break Newton. The staff made it effortless to plan this event. Because of our size we were split between The Grimm Escape and Escape the Midnight Carnival. Both teams did escape and everyone enjoyed the room that they were in. I would recommend Puzzle Break Newton for this type of activity.
We had a going away party there for 8 11 yr olds. Was a great time, the kids had a blast and Ian was great helping everybody.
Staff was great and made the experience even better. We had a group ranging from 12 to 73 and we all had a blast. Tons of fun, highly recommend!
If youre looking for a unique activity to do on a night out, Puzzle Break is a great choice! The puzzles are challenging, but they get your detective brain power fired up. Real fun!
Went here with my work team and had an excellent time. The team was able to work together to get out with only 2 minutes left! Cutting it close, but better than getting locked in the room!
Zac was fabulous, he challenged us, was encouraging, but didnt give everything away. He made the experience so much fun. This is a must do in Boston.
Really fun escape room that can handle a large group (there were twelve of us).Andrew was our guide and he was great!
The Grimm Forest puzzle was such a fun experience for our family! Andrew was also great, and definitely made our experience that much more enjoyable.
Great place for a birthday party! 10 eleven year olds. They had such a fantastic time.
I’m a Cluemaster at Escape the Room Boston, and I love escape rooms in general. Puzzle Break definitely has some amazing rooms! The riddles and puzzles are challenging and varied, the technology used is great, and the production values are top-notch. I have one room left to do there, and I can’t wait to visit. If you’re looking for a fantastic BREAK from routine, try Puzzle Break! :D
We hosted a team bonding event for a soccer group at Puzzle Break Newton. It was so easy to organize with the staff and they made it so fun for the girls. I highly recommend.
Just went with my company. Very fun! John was very helpful and nice.
I took my family of 4 here on a rainy afternoon (two kids, age 11 and 9). We were the only 4 people there for our puzzle, and we needed a fair amount of help from our host, but we did solve a few things on our own everyone had a lot of fun. We did the fairy tale which was a bit hard for our kids but they had a good time.
Ian was great and gave us tips throughout the process and gave personalized help to my 8yo while I tried to figure out puzzles. This Escape room was different from others Ive been to where the guide is locked inside the room with you.
Friendly staff, organized event and the middle schoolers had fun.
I went to Puzzzle Break Newton with a handful of work colleagues. We had a great time and Madi was awesome!
We had a really fun time and the staff was wonderful! Thanks so much!
The puzzles and theme were well done. However, Im not a huge fan of the game master being in the room with us. Also, it was confusing when he started putting things back that we had used while we were still playing the game.
We brought a SibShop group here for an struggle to escape the circus! Participants loved it and fostered friendships and teamwork. Totally recommend!
My co-workers and I had a great time trying to solve the puzzles. Ian was very accomadating in my planning the gathering and Jonathan was an excellent gamekeeper. Will definetly be back
Fun activity for kids and adults - we went there few times already and everytime we enjoyed it - great staff - very professional and nice !!
Had a work outing here and we had a great time!
This was a lot of fun! Kicked out collective butts as nine of our three groups got out but we all enjoyed the experience.Fun hosts and a great experience.
Great time with our friends! Super fun night and great/helpful staff!
Really fun. Our guide was terrific!
They have a great space and difficult escape rooms! We had a great time and totally failed at escaping. :) It was a lot of fun.
Shannon was amazing! Best game operator Ive had while there! Ive done 20k before and Grimm escape was so fun with Shannon leading. Anybody reading this should check them out! Thanks Shannon!
Midnight Carnival was a disorganized mess and a disappointing waste of time and money. Would not go back. They list 8 as the minimum age but the puzzle is not going to be solvable for most adults.
We had so much fun! The puzzles were hard so we had to work together as a group and the kids were extremely excited and helped.
Super fun experience! We had Andrew as our “room guide” and he was great at giving out very helpful tips without revealing too much and allowing us to do the grunt work. Thanks for having us!!
Overall an incredibly fun and unique experience. It was so rewarding to work together with my family to escape the room. Our guide Chris gave us just enough hints to lead us in the right direction while not ruining the narrative.
So much fun. Our helper gave us just enough assistance to get us through. Really tough puzzles though. Loved it.
Good logic puzzles and great fun! We did the Grimm Forest and are looking forward to the other puzzle rooms at Puzzle Break!
My daughter attended a birthday party at Puzzle Break and had a Puzzle Break event as part of her own birthday celebration. Both experiences were great!
It was my daughter’s 12th bday. She said she and her friends had fun in the Grimm Escape Room. I wasn’t ‘allowed’ in the game. Everything that was promised we got, plenty of yummy pizza, water, juice, silverware, all the basics in a clean, bright, decorated room.
I brought my whole family, with ages from sixty down to eight months. We had a great time! Thank you!
It was a great experience for a group of six teenage girls. After they left all they could talk about was how much fun it was and wanting to go back.
We had a staff get together for the second year in a row and it was GREAT!!
Not as much atmosphere as other escape rooms Ive been in and the puzzle we were in was a little on the easy side.
Had a great time, staff was very helpful. Puzzles were at bit hard but was able to get out with a bit of help!
My students had a great time at Puzzle Break. The Puzzle Break team was highly responsive and helpful with our booking.
