For such a small attraction, it offered a big payback. The tour of the house was about 1/2 hour long, filled with history and adorn with antique furnishings. There was even a corner chair that was original that is believed Washington used! Cool! The museum was excellent. Everything was numbered. You could use a monitor to put in that number to read the detailed info on that piece. There were guns, swords, personal items, dishware, even dolls! Very well presented & preserved.ALL this for a nominal fee: $4 and about 2 hours of your time.

Some construction going on, and several buildings closed due to covid, but still a great site to visit.Interpreter (Matt) was exceptionally helpful and informative, and gave us lots of information while still helping people showing up for scheduled tours.Answered all our questions, and gave plenty of additional information and context. Also helped us map out a couple other potential sites to visit in the Hudson valley area

What a history attached to this place. I recommend this place if you want to know more about our first president. Our guide who gave us the tour of the house was very humble and knowledgeable. He was able to answer all our questions. Revolutionary war history lesson at very low cost. Going to the top of tower of victory is a must.

Such an interesting and important piece of history right on the Hudson! The museum building has many different and fascinating artifacts that are all catalogued in a digital system to allow visitors to peruse more information on the ones they find most intriguing using provided touch screen stations. There was much more than just Revolutionary era artifacts to learn about. Touring the house that served as the actual headquarters was a lot of fun. The guide was truly interested in what she was talking about which made it that much more enjoyable. Wonderful staff all around who want to share their love of history. A great place to learn with the whole family.

Its just okay. You are not missing much. Theres not much to see or do in Newburgh. I wouldnt go all the way to Newburgh just to see this. But if you are already in the area for something else, and you have time, its worth checking out. The views of the hudson river are spectacular.

Why do i give this site 5 stars not only its one of Washingtons Headquarters. he stayed here the longest out of all his headquarters but thats not the only reason. if George Washington was to walk into today. he would recognize it. it is the same right down to the paint as he left it. how incredible is that. also in the site is and super museum and the Tower of Victory. in 1887 to commemorate the peace following the end of the Revolutionary War. i even loved the tulip tree.

A wonderfully preserved piece of history cared for by people who know their stuff. This colonial home served as the headquarters of the General Washington at the end of the Revolutionary War and features many historical artifacts and reproductions that take you back to the 18th Century. The grounds also feature a Tower of Victory housing a statue of George Washington watching over the Hudson, a Liberty Tree grown from the seed of the last surviving Liberty Tree in Annapolis, and the grave site of the last of General Washingtons Life Guards. Of course, the highlight of the site is the house/headquarters itself. The tour was very we done with a lot of obscure facts and stories about the General, the War, and even the family that built the house. Regular admission was $4, $3 for student with ID, and though no military discount was listed, $3 for military. Its worth noting that photography and videography are not allowed in the museum or the house/headquarters. Definitely a must see site.

Interesting historic place, but the visit was spoiled from the very beginning by the attitude of the clerk in charge of selling the visitor tickets. Very unpleasant and cranky. The type of people who gets annoyed because is not capable of responding to questions while counting tickets. Extremely rude. People like these should stay at home and not spoil other peoples enjoyment. It is understandable that if a person cannot do 2 things at a time, a simple, I will let you know in a minute, would suffice, dont say I just told you and I am busy getting your tickets, that is rude!!!

Im a resident of Newburgh. Took my 4 yr old for a stroll there. Granted I hadnt visited the museum in ages, however I was approached by the attendant telling me that there was a fee to be in the building. 2 buildings on the property are under renovations. So we enjoyed the view and moved on. We frequented the Headquarters often as children, most times buy ourselves and never paid a fee; so for me it wasnt worth it.

A hidden treasure of local and national history-- the museum includes the original building used by President (then General) George Washington to command the Continental Army during the last 16 months of the war. There are period displays in the headquarters and hands on replica artifacts that can be handled. There is also a larger museum space where more artifacts related to the Revolutionary War are kept. Please be aware photography is not allowed in the museums. The grounds are beautiful and the view is very nice.
