A fantastic State Park in Delaware to hike on. Various types of trails, from flat to challenging, with sand, gravel, paved and natural dirt trails.Add to that the adjoining Pennsylvania White Clay Creek Preserve, one has miles of trails to enjoy the beauty of the area.Pennsylvania parking areas are free, while Delaware charges a fee ($4 in state residences. $8 out of state residence) per car March 1 to November 30. December 1st 1 to February 28/29th there is no charge in Delaware. Some but not all trails allow bicycles and horses.
At more than 3,000 acres, White Clay Creek State Park is one of the state’s largest natural areas. It’s conveniently located in Newark, just a short drive from Pike Creek. The park offers visitors a variety of outdoor recreation options. One of its biggest draws is the creek after which it’s named, which stretches for nearly 20 miles through the scenic and undeveloped area.Hiking, biking, bird watching, and fishing are popular park pastimes, the latter of which draws eager anglers during trout season – especially after the creek has been stocked. There’s also a nature and visitor’s center, and historic sites as well.
Love walking on the paths looking at the trees turning colors. Also nice that people are wearing masks.good time of year for this
Went for the first time today for a wedding shower. Absolutely beautiful park! You do have to pay to get in, but those fees are to help keep the park maintained and beautiful, and they are definitely doing their job! Would love to visit again in the future.
Great park right along the Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland border. Tons of trails for hiking, biking, bird watching, fishing, bow hunting. Not a lot of parking and no card readers to pay for park fees, so bring cash.
A wonderful place to bike. The old road is in need of repairs bit a hybrid bike is great. Parking can be tight so earlier is better on the weekends.
Traveling from out of state coming from Las Vegas. Needless to say I was overwhelmed with the natural beauty out at white Clay Creek State Park. The river water was so clear everything was super green some mud on the trails but to be expected. Perfect for family hikes trails for mountain bike riding and finding places for quiet meditation.
We had tons of fun. Lots of different parking lots to park close to whatever trail you want to take. I picked up a map at the main office and we took a walk along the creek and over the wood bridge. Were definitely coming back. I originally found this place after finding the full moon hike advertised online. For 5 bucks you walk an hour with the parks naturalist. She told us about certain trees and critters in the area and took us to some really nice spots to see the moon. It was awesome, highly recommend that too. I went alone as an adult and still had a good time
Great outdoor nature area straddling the PA/DE state line (PA side is White Clay Creek Preserve). Stocked trout stream, nature trails, woods, and meadows.
Love this park. Love the preserve better because its free. Its all beautiful with its history and rolling hills. Beautiful trails.
We parked our car in Wedgewood rd parking lot, took the blue trail and crossed the bridge. We found stream of water with tiny waterfalls, very close to parking. Kids enjoyed a lot. The water was shallow and we spent hours playing there. One drawback is parking spots are less.
Took a 3.4 mile hike at White Clay Creek St Pk. Wonderful. Peaceful. Just a bit strenuous. Do it.
Its a beautiful, serene place to enjoy nature. The bridges and trails are great and the whole part is clean.
Beautiful well-kept trails, perfect for hiking with pups. Although dogs do need to be on leashes. My dogs are always happy and content after a beautiful hike in the White Clay Preserve.
A good variety of trails for walking/hiking/biking. Has never been to crowded when i go even on the weekends, i havent had a bad experience yet
Amazing spot for mountain biking. Trails for all skill levels and very well maintained.
I hike/run from the park office as home base. All trails exceptionally well maintained. Be sure you have a park sticker.
Huge, diverse natural area in the tiny first state if Delaware. If you love the outdoors, hiking, biking, or Horseback riding, youll never be bored. Four Seasons of Beauty.
Great place for a ride or walk.Trails and parking lots can be tricky to get to and easy to get lost. Trails are not very well marked.
Good variety in uses. Family or group picnic areas, disc golf, practice space for teams, hiking.
If youre a mountain goat this is the place for you. The trails are great.
Amazing trail systems. Love mountain biking here!
I really like this State Park, very big place. If you like the outdoors fishing, biking, hicking would recommend. Nice views, a good place to take the kids exploring.
I take an old friend of mine there trout fishing Every Spring. . . nice place to go. Out of the way, quiet, a lot of people jogging, riding bikes, doing their own thing while we sit there and fish. Very peaceful - you see Eagles geese ducks otters and also catch trout. Beautiful place to go spend the day!
Disc golf course what muddy in spots but overall it was a good time.
Excellent state park. A lot of land and walking trails. Wear bug spray before coming here.
Nice park to hike a trail or walk on main path. Most people wearing masks for pandemic. A few runners were not, but understandable.
Went with friends for their disk golf course. Very open holes and fairly easy course, lovely for a relaxing and laid back round.
An amazing resource. Any Delawarean who does not buy an annual pass doesnt know what they are missing and is depriving this great park system of the funding it needs.
Beautiful place to go and enjoy nature. We walked the trails and went in the water to cool down.
Beautiful park, great XC course, people are good at social distancing, etc.
The Delaware White Clay Creek is part of the states park system. There are miles of well maintained trails. You can walk, run, or mountain bike many of these trails without needing to cross roadways. If youre willing to cross the road, though, you can travel for miles. The paths are varied, including paved, gravel, and dirt. Some are wide and flat, others narrow and hilly, but generally easy/moderate effort. They pass through forest, along meadows, and many branches of the creek. Some paths link to the Pennsylvania White Clay Creek Preserve. Fee based lots, some with bathroom facilities or porta potties, allow for easy access to trail heads. Ongoing improvement projects are expanding trails. A great way to get away for some exercise in nature!
Love this park every time we go. Such a treasure!
Great for cycling, disc golf, big picnic area, nice creek but Some places not properly managed
Me and my team that take care of the lawncare for this park
We loved it out here was so beautiful ina damp day so many deers were out
Very nice state park. Over 30 miles of well maintained hiking trails which lead through beautiful forest and past White Clay Creek. Biking is allowed on some of the trails and some parts of the creek are great swimming holes in the summer.
My favorite state park in Delaware! Ive been coming here for over 30 years
Great trails. Lots of options. Markers. Wish they had cleared maps
Beautiful day for a hike.
A hidden gem in suburban northern Delaware. Brought my Delaware friends here for a nice afternoon foliage walk. We took a loop hike from the natural center to the Bridge at White Clay Creek Trail and Tri-Valley Trail. It was simply beautiful and tranquil.
Love the scenery is beautiful
Love this place every time. One of my favorite places to mtn bike. Very approachable for the entire family.
Beautiful park. Has a really nice disc golfing course.
Beautiful scenery all the time no matter what season
This is really nice place for picnic and hiking.
Great place to be. Good place ro take a walk
Trail markings are a little confusing. There is also a lack of available maps. Other than that, it is a very beautiful serene area.
Tons of land lots of areas to fish, swim, hike, picnic or just relax and enjoy the outdoors
Excellent place for peaceful time
It was so cool and i can eat my breakfast while biking on rivers 5 starsdisc golf
Nice place to walk and relax.
Fast flowing biking trails. Wish they would have mike marker signs on the trail. Watch out for walkers and hikers. It could use some trail trimming too. Very overgrown.
Great park. Lots of space, varied terrain, good parking.
We enjoyed the short hike by the rangers station. The GPS got me there with no problem. Im going to purchase a yearly pass so I can explore as much as I can of the park.My. Man
Great for biking and easily accessed from the UDel campus. A pleasant place to stop is the small nature center.
Wonderful park, love coming here! Great trails.
Lots of great trails. It even has primitive camping.
Nice park though the mapping is inconsistent with actual trail conditions.. many trails shown on maps are now simply closed or no longer on the trails as indicated.. trail markers encountered are not all updated w/new trail info or accurate.. I had 3 maps and honestly none were correct.... the DE access lots are only free from December 1st to March 1st.. there is very little here worth an $8 per vehicle out of state parking charge so be warned.. use the adjunct Pa lots to avoid these ridiculously high user fees.. no state park w/o lifeguarded swimming available should be more than $3 for anyone to day use ..
Such a beautiful place. We ran a cross country meet here. Awesome course.
This place is a hidden gem for mountain biking. Never in a million years would I think Delaware had some of the best single track on the East Coast. There are so many trails its gonna take me awhile to explore them all. Nice to have somewhere this awesome so close to where I live. Ride or die baby!
Mountain biking! Long and flowing alternating with technical and tightly treed equals awesome all around.
Super recommend this place to everyone. water very clean and very good to fish with family this and my son fished a trout
Just a wonderful place. They have trails you can hike, walk your dog/dogs, jog or let the kids run off a lil extra energy.fishing is my main reason.
Didnt get the chance to see the beauty so many trail heads Id like a definition of what Im gonna see on each trail
Some markers can be easy to miss on the trails.
This was my second time at white clay creek. You need a State Park sticker to park in the lot or park on the side of the road if you do not. At Thompson Bridge, theres no porta potty or trash cans. However, you are able to fly fish in designated areas. There are plenty of trout and trophy to catch.
All I’ve been there for is biking, and it’s pretty damn nice for that. There’s some smooth single tracks through fields and woods and wooden mans made and natural obstacles as well as a nice pump track ( you can find the location on the app Trailforks)
Nice big park. Took a 6 mile walk and didnt cover all the trails. Their are some good hills to get your heart rate up. Clean restrooms and very nice picnic shelters. Great place for a hike or family outing.
I love this park. Its so peaceful and serene. The trails are really nice. You can park at one of many places around the whole park. Theres some history to it which is cool. If youre a hiker this would be a place for you, Its just a very enjoyable time.
A beautiful place to visit, an awesome waterfall on the Delaware side great place to go fishing and relax . Rangers are there checking up on us as they should which makes it feel really safe knowing. Both Pennsylvania and Delaware sides are frequently monitored by Rangers just to note. They take their jobs serious but if your following rules and codes youll be ok. They make it fun to chat with and try to help .Have all your licenses ready because they diligently seek out violations and rule breakers . Which makes me very happy,I pay for my licenses, support the Gaming commission and regulations and so should everyone else who want to participate.
Great mountain biking trails for flat Delaware.
Great place to get exercise and free family fun
Huge, so many different trails and places to hike. Weather your on foot or you brought your bike... its a place to kill hours at.
Beautiful park, quiet, good swimming holes, good fishing.
Jon and mommy and Rizzy and Roy and Chaz and Morgan
Good for hiking. plenty of trails
The family and I love going to this park. There are so many hiking and biking trails right along the creek. It is very cool when you start a trail in DE and end up in PA. There is so much to do and see here.
Great park for hiking and biking with lots of open space and a cool abandoned bridge with a pretty far drop
A great place to hike, run, bike, fish and have a great time!
Nice walk in the woods. Well maintained park
The locals do everything they can to pretend its their private sanctuary. You used to be able to drive a car through there now they have it locked up most of the time. Its a very pretty area but a shame that it became such a private local area instead of a public place that everyone could enjoy. It is still a nice sanctuary for animals even if the locals dont want you in.
Relaxing back to nature hike, inspired me to delve back into nature photography I had lost touch with. Great hits and trails but dont forget to stop and catch the wind before it passes you by!
Its nature is so dense that you can feel the peace always
Went for trout stocking. Too many people not enough trout get stocked and the stocking locations are false. Pike Creek has no legal place to fish or a place for them to stock, yet its listed for stocking. White clay itself is beautiful and very fun to trout fish when it is actually stocked on the correct days listed, instead of days you take off work to fish it and they dont actually stock it until the following day. Or they only stock it where its easiest to walk to, instead of like before when they would go to all kinds of places up and down the stream.
Great place to relax and exercise
Perfect place for hikes and bike rides, either alone or in groups. Wonderful scenery and trails.
Trails are so fun. Good for all levels. Beautiful year round.
Lovely Place for family and good for kids
This is a 4 star review beast on a mountain bikers perspective. The only thing that it really lacking in my opinion is more technical areas and/or obstacle. there was one small section with Some balance or walk type stuff but it was small. It is a pretty good place to take a beginner or friends.
The trails are a variety of things to do, BBQ, hike, fish, and theres a playground for the kids. We went during mating season for the frogs my kids thought it was amazing.
