The good: Cute older theater where we saw Hades town.the stage is well decorated and the views from the seats is good no matter where you sit. The performance deserves a 5+++ as the performers were amazing, the singing powerful, and the acting was some of the best I have ever had the privilege to see on Broadway. This is my 6 show in 2 weeks and the best or all I saw this past few weeks and possibility the best show I have seen in 15 years. The bad: They have crammed in so many seats that it you are tall or larger then you will feel as if your legs are tucked back behind you. I am not very tall and am not a large person either and am in shape but I felt like the 7 foot tall guy driving a smart car with his 5 best friends in the same car. Either this theater was built when the average male was only 54 at 100 lbs or the designers were maximizing Evey square in of space possible.
This theater is tiny. You will have zero leg room and the line for the bathrooms on the second floor goes down the stairwell, but it looks like most views of the stage are great. For Hadestown, the main story is usually in the center of the stage so you wont miss much if you cant see the extreme sides.
Saw the almighty boss Bruce Springsteen perform in this theatre. Although that performance was fantastic, I found the theatre a bit outdated with a weird division of men and woman toilet and opposite sides of the theatre. Also I found the climate pretty uncomfortable during the show. It got really hot at the mezzanine level.Despite that, sound and atmosphere are great!
Loved the space and the house crew. We went had an opportunity for standing room seats and the view was awesome. Not for everyone, but if you can stand still for two hours and want to be very close to the bar at intermission well this could be the bargain for you. Also if you happen to spot an empty seat after intermission you are welcome to sit. This standing by opportunity was excellent.
Relatively small theater but really nice, nonetheless. Saw hadestown here and it was fantastic. The stage setup was simple but worked really well. As for the theatre - which the review is about - the sound was great, the ushers were very nice. No complaints.
Bruce Springsteen was great. The theater was not so great. The seats were tighter together than a budget airline. I am just barely 6 feet. and my knees were touching the back of the seat in front of me even though i had to bend my legs and push my feet under my seat. For $400 really. I couldnt walk right for two days.
The theatre was clean, the staff was polite and the cocktails were amazing. Best of all was seeing a sign that clearly stated the establishments acceptance and welcoming of gender diversity. We saw Hadestown and it was a mesmerizing experience. The production was top notch, with stunning visuals and technical effects that supported the production.
Stunningly beautiful theater! Seats are, like most, reasonably small, but a tiny bit better in terms of leg room.We had the opportunity to see Hadestown and it was insanely good! We both LOVED the show!! Highly recommended!!
I went here on my honeymoon to see the critically acclaimed Hadestown. The theater itself was beautiful! The seats were way more stacked than I had imagined. This was my first time on Broadway. I imagined that some seats would be much worse, but we were on the top balcony and could see everything perfectly! It didnt seem like there was a bad seat anywhere. Rather than close and far seats, it almost felt like ground level and high up seat. It was a beautiful tight, and spacious place. Quite magical. Highly recommend both the play and the theater.
Really nice mid sized theater with great ambience and acoustics. Lower mezzanine has steep gradient which means you need to watch your step but everyone gets a great unobstructed view, we were in the first row left first mezzanine and felt really close to the scene. Upper mezzanine looked like it would be too far away for our taste. We saw Hadestown which was exceptional, well worth seeing with original broadway cast at this theater as some of the lead voices as heard on the soundtrack are so unique would be hard for others to match and the staging and effects were spectacular but will also be difficult to match at other theaters
Excellent! Hands down, I was very impressed! I dont even think much (good or bad) about Springsteen, but he is my husbands favorite, so we spring for 11th row to see him. ($$Yikes!!) I will say, I came out a true fan of the man. He is an EXCELLENT storyteller. He talks about why he came to write each song ...with COMPLETE HONESTY. Some of his explanations were comical, which made you feel like more of a friend divulging a secret that he wouldnt tell the general public. Very informative and enjoyable night!Despite the EXTREMELY small seats AND cost, our seat selection was perfect (any more close and I am afraid that we would have been looking up too much) and we were close enough to see all his facial expressions without aid of any type. I will say that if you have sensitive ears, bring a pair of earplugs - it got VERY loud during a couple of the songs where I had to actually cover my ears. Other than that - I highly recommend the show.
Beautiful venue, excellent view of entire stage in any seat and fantastic show!
This is my second visit to this theater. The first one was to see A Gentlemans Guide to Love and Murder and now Hadestown. A smallish theater but you wouldnt know because of the caliber of the shows I have seen here. Very elegant setting for A Gentlemans Guide but transformed into this utilitarian style of design that perfectly matches the doom and gloom atmosphere of Hadestown. Concession stand and souvenir shop just behind the back row of the orchestra level. Clean bathrooms, very nice staff and ushers.
Hadestown is a fantastic show. Great writing, musicians phenomenal, singing fabulous, choreography perfect and utilizing the intriguing set design fully. Theatre is very nice. Only trick is intermission bathroom break is orderly, but overrun.
What a beautifully renovated theatre! Very intimate with no bad seats. Whatever plays there will be worth seeing!
Great theatre, smallish, so shows feel intimate and you are always really close to the action....EXCEPT when you sit in the balcony. The balcony is absolutely an after thought, jammed into the rafters, not a good view or sound experience. Spring for mezz level (which is a stellar view) or orchestra and you’ll be super happy, even from the back rows. The balcony is almost insulting.
Such a beautiful theater! Comfortable and very intimate setting. Highly recommend.Staff was wonderful. Security for Springsteen on Broadway was a bit unorganized because theyd rather speak to each other than make eye contact with patrons but very easy to get through.
Probably smallest theatre in Manhattan but if Springsteen is on stage it is FABULOUS.
Nice theater. Bathrooms are not very convenient. The only bathrooms we could find are at either end of the building on 2nd floor. Staff are nice. Went to see Bruce. I found the staff running around with flashlights bothersome.
Went to see Hades Town yesterday and here are my thoughts on it...I guess it was ok...probably would of been better if I knew what exactly was going on. I never heard of it and thought Id try it out given all the buzz and Tony Awards. The singing was good but I had a really hard time trying to grasp the story line. The lady seated next to me even fell asleep at one point. It was ok but for the price I paid I wouldnt make the same choice twice. Definitely do your homework if you plan seeing this one.
They really need to update their seating (people are taller these days), otherwise its brilliant...
Small theatre- balcony seats and orch are all great. This is view from row .. h I think?
Hadestown is such a great show!!! Would definitely recommend especially if you are a big musical fan. The theater and set was very impressive too.
Went to see Hadestown at this theatre and can I just praise the staff? They are so well organized and control traffic flow amazingly. They are also amazingly helpful and the theatre itself is so beautiful and classic. Had a fantastic time and huge thanks to the staff for their competence and expertise.
Saw Hadestown. Great! Tickets for a weeknight only ~$120. Seats way to the side row N but looked great. (Just go check out the alternate view during intermission.)
The chairs are not very comfortable.
Smaller theater than usual, but makes for great seats all around. Sound is top notch as well and friendly staff.
Go see HADESTOWN! Immediately.Probably the best thing Ive seen in 5 years.
Very nice small theater. Great sound and sight lines. No lobby, just open the door and go to your seat. Tiny bar in the back.
Such a beautiful theatre that is currently showing an AMAZING show!! I highly recommend everyone to go see Hadestown!!
This is a great venue. The staff were all very professional and extremely helpful. The restrooms were clean and tidy. Came for Hadestown on a Saturday night and was very happy with my theater experience.
Like many a NY theater, seating is not the most comfortable. Best to look around and see just how lovely the theater is and how wonderful the stage mechanics are that allow for emerging from the underground or being drawn down into it. Just what was necessary for the most enjoyable Hadestown. Fun story and the most wonderful joining of voices I have heard in a while. Stunning solos, stunning harmonies, excellent on stage musicians, I don’t think I can conjure up enough admirable adjectives. Nor would I be able to say one performer outshined another because every time a mouth opened pure heaven emerged even though you might actually be down below.
Beautiful theater with an old time feel. Wonderfully intimate, felt like you could connect with the players. Staff were all so nice, and Hadestown was an amazing show.
Convenient location, and the mezzanine area had a great view of the stage .
Wonderful theater with a great mezzanine. Beautiful stage and aesthetics along with friendly and welcoming staff. Saw hadestown here and the play itself was fantastic, and the theater was part of that.
Wow! We had such a great time. The theatre isnt that big, so all the seats on the floor are amazing to match a great show in Hadestown.
Great place. Seats around 900. Saw Bruce Springsteen on Broadway there. Great show. Seats were a little tight. But had a great sound and I dont think theres a bad seat in the theatre.
All seats are great. Restroom and concession lines move smoothly.
It is easy to find. The seat is relatively comfy. There is no coat/bag check booth, but the staff can do that for you.
The shows here are great.Sitting is a bit too tight.Waiting on stairs for restrooms should be addressed asap
Enjoyed Hadestown here, such talented actors..the prizes for drinks were crazy expensive but I guess is expected of broadway theater in NY? Also, the lines for the restroom were pretty crazy at half time but I guess there was plenty of time to get the business done and loved how the staff give you a heads up at the restroom when the show is about to start
Saw Hades town here. Polite and friendly staff and 5 star adult beverages. They also manage their lines very well. Pro tip, there is a cash only bar that has a much shorter line.
Beautiful old theater. The type that has no bad seats. Snacks and drinks are expensive.
Hadestown...finally a musical written for musicians. Epic storytelling, Hades and Hermes were extraordinary. A very peculiar show, unlike anything Ive seen. Amazing delivery of the finale by Hermes that I will never forget.
This is one of my favorite theaters in New York. A tip, though - bring a jacket or sweater. It can be really chilly for some reason. Other than that, youll ove the intimacy! The acoustics are wonderful, as well. We just saw Hadestown. The encore number is done without mics, and you can still hear every word and the rich harmony. The theater tends to run plays but Amilee was here, and now Hadestown. Which, IMO, is a perfect place for it. You feel like youre drawn into the performance vs sitting in an audience watching. Its a beautifully kept theater, too.Staff is probably the most pleasant, helpful, and accommodating on Broadway. Everyone with a smile. Kudos to all and to management!Dont be dissuaded by a few neg reviews about how small the seats are. EVERY old house in the theater district is like that. Live with it. Beats the heck out of concrete stadium theaters!A tip on leaving. The whole theater opens up onto 48th st. Go sideways to get out if youre in orchestra seats. Avoid the jam.
Intimate theatre and awesome shows. Hadestown was amazing!
HADESTOWN will win all the Tonys!
Beautiful theater now hosting the best show in town: Hadestown (Febr. 2020)
Saw Hadestown. Good overall experience. My only issue was with being ushered out at the end. I had to use the restroom but instead was immediately ushered out of the building like cattle. Other theaters allow you to move around freely afterwards and use the restroom if need be.
I saw Hadestown here and had an overall pleasant experience. The bar/concessions stand at the back of the orchestra section is quite small and led to an odd double line in both directions, one wrapping up the stairs and another going the other way down the aisle. However, they offer pre-ordering pre-show which eliminates some of the hassle.
Mezzanine rake is steep. Very little leg room but the view is great (row E pictured). No lobby, you walk straight into the back of the orchestra level as you enter.
So beautiful and intimate. Every seat looks like a great seat to see a show. Cant wait to return.
Saw Hadestown here, sitting in the balcony, still an amazing show. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the audio assist devices worked great as well.
An amazing night with a consummate performer. Cant say Im the worlds biggest Bruce fan (Im married to one of them though) but this was by far one of the most enjoyable musical performances Ive been to.Amazing voice, some great stories, humor and music.Well worth checking out.
Small but intimate. Saw Hadestown which is just amazing, and the theatre itself was perfect for it.
Hadestown was really great. The theater is so nice and intimate
The seats were fairly comfortable although not a lot of space. The production I saw here of Hadestown was beautifully staged and the performances were fantastic!!!
I saw Springsteen on Broadway here. A beautiful, intimate environment for a show.
A lovely theater. The balcony seats are steep - not for those afraid of heights - but the view was fabulous.
Bruuuuuuuuuuuce ! The theater was quite nice as well.
Fantastic, intimate theatre. Impressed at how the staff efficiently moved the restroom lines during intermission
Beautiful theater and Hadestown was amazing. If you get the chance its a must see.
Typical Broadway theater in terms of amenities, customer service, and age (its been around for almost a century!). And yes, Hadestown was a great show and worth all the accolades.
To start with, we saw a fantastic show, Hadestown, so it really doesnt matter what you theatre was like. The seats are small and set closely together, but thats what happens in the mezzanine. If you want better seats, you have to pay for them.We had absolutely no trouble seeing the stage. The energy in the theatre was electric. And did I mention Hadestown? It was so much better than I expected, and I expected a LOT! Id go back tomorrow if I could.
Ushers handled the ladies bathroom line very well during intermission. Made for a quick wait with enough time to browse the merch booth.
Saw Falsettos here last night. I chose a seat in the second row of the mezzanine because I was told by someone who had seen the show previously that the orchestra seats are not elevated much and it would likely be easier for me to see in the mezzanine. My seat was amazing, I could see absolutely everything, however I was extremely uncomfortable the entire two hour and forty minute duration of the show. I am a slender female and only 55 and I felt as though my seat was too small. My knees were practically in the back of the person in front of me and I couldnt move an inch without disturbing the people next to me. The theater was also freezing cold and in a pair of jeans with two pairs of leggings underneath I was still shivering with goosebumps and shouldnt have been. Otherwise the theater is beautiful. Falsettos was INCREDIBLE, with a flawless cast.
We went to go see the play Hadestown, we got there late and we had to rush in. On our way up to our seats we didnt get to look around at first, but once we did I could see all the beautiful architecture in the theater. This was a play we waited 6 months to see, and finally seeing the stage and the set was completely amazing. The way the floor had three rotating circles to help the cast convey movement was such a cool idea. The way the stage moved and the way the actors, and actresses interacted with it was incredible to see. This play has been shown on TV and online alot for how good it is, but I can honestly say its worth a visit to watch it. We would honestly love to go see this play again its that good. They have the original soundtrack on spotify also so you can start listening to the music right now if you wanted to.
Such an intimate theater. Saw Hadestown. It was the perfect setting.
We saw Hadestown here during our visit. The theater has a great vibe that really lets you feel the glamorous days of Time Square and the shows and musicals there.Seating is rather tight and its hard to move your feet.
Hadestown was wonderful and this was such a beautiful theater. Not a bad seat in the house.
We had a great view even from the Balcony. My only complaint was it was very hot in there. Other than that if you dress appropriately it’s a nice place to see a show.
Saw Hadestown and we could see everything perfectly from Mezz left. There isnt a bad seat in the house. The sound quality is exceptional. Everyone was very organized at the stage door afterwards and security was very respectful and prepared.
Such an amazing place! Had a wonderful time going to Hadestown!!
Beautifully kept venue run by a knowledgeable and efficient staff. It was my bestie’s first ever Broadway show and he had a fabulous time!
We saw Bruce Springsteen, and it was an excellent show. He was very open, honest, and emotional. We enjoyed the way he played his traditional songs in a non-traditional manner and told different stories about his family, friends, and other aspects of his life. We highly recommend the show if you have the opportunity to go. The theater itself was similar to other Broadway theaters. Of note, the mens bathroom is on one side, and the womens bathroom is on the other side.
Beautiful, old theatre feel. Mezzanine bar is a smidge too high but still a wonderful experience.
The theater is just the right size: big enough for a full on production, but small enough to remain intimate. We saw Hadestown here, and it was absolutely phenomenal. I would see it again in a heartbeat!
Have seen two great shows here, Springsteen and Hadestown. Beautiful theatre with good sightlines. Seats are a little small but comfortable
I watched Hadestown last month and the venue was just as beautiful as the show.
Beautiful theatre and current production of Hadestown is not to be missed!
Very nice people in the box office. They really do their best to get you what you want and need. Excellent.
Cozy theater, seating is comfortable, though a bit tight on the legroom, in Orchestra. Scored a great aisle seat for Hadestown, didnt miss a thing, great staging!
Beautiful theatre, all seats good. The bathroom is on the stairwell, which makes for some crazy traffic patterns from above and below.
The theatre was a clean and had all the old charm, which paired well with the show. Hadestown was so much fun. It was upbeat, funny, and tragic. I highly recommend it to anyone who want to hear great band and powerful music!
Hadestown was excellentIt is hard to say it was heaven sentBut we are happy we went
Amazing show! Beautiful theater!
Great show, Hadestown. Great seats in the mezzanine. Great sound system.
The performance was brilliant, and the staff were fabulous. I hope they are able to raise enough money some day to increase restroom capacity so lines are shorter. Its a great venue otherwise.
Beautiful theatre, great production. Handicap accessible
Wonderful theater. Just gorgeous but the seats are so tiny. If you are a tall person try to get a seat on the aisle. My 6ft son enjoyed the show but was very uncomfortable
Hadestown blew our minds. We came without high expectations and left transfixed. Great show.
As always, womens restroom lines were a huge issue. At intermission, the line extended down a flight of stairs and across half the auditorium on the first floor. However, it was super well-organized and that helped it move relatively swiftly.
