One of my favorite venues. I come here all the time to see shows. Staff is wonderful. They are taking precautions and handing the rules very safely during the pandemic. Very good food. Great shows and atmosphere.
This was, hands down, the best experience that Ive ever had in Manhattan! We sang, we laughed, and we drank great cocktails! Theater driven, the show is very receptive to audience participation and requests! How fun! The pianist there was a joy as well. The turkey club was amazing! Other items, not so much. The show was well worth the cost of the drinks and food as well. 5/5 for Piano Theater Bars!
(Visited July 2019)Great spot and great piano bar! The cocktails were amazing, staff a delight and the pianist was fantastic all night! Thoroughly recommend if you are in town 1 evening!
Great Happy hour specials. Finally a drink that wasn’t watered down. We could easily spend some time and money there as the pianist rocked.
Wow!! This place is such a delight! Thursday night they were doing karaoke with a very skilled and comical pianist. The servers perform while moving drinks, and will go up on stage and boy are they talented! Really everyone who went on stage had amazing voices and stage presence. They have it all: great music and talent, comedy, drama, comfortable safe atmosphere, friendly patrons and, of course, stiff drinks. Must see!
Worst establishment in Hells Kitchen. Do not waste your money.
A lot of fun. Everybody performing is fantastic. Drinks are reasonable for Manhattan, especially considering the live entertainment.
A must see in Manhattan. Piano bar, cabaret, singing wait staff and a great vibe. Loved it!
We were there in 2019 Oct. and ist was very impressive, cocktails wer pefectly and the mood of the staff exiting, waitress and Artist in one person. We Will Be Back :)
My new neighborhood favorite place. I love it here. Such great talent performing. Staff is very friendly and they sing amazingly. Highly recommended.
Great drinks and very talented performers! They play a lot of oldies music that are good to sing along to. Guests also sometimes volunteer to request a song and sing it themselves! Great piano bar
I decided to ignore all the negative reviews and try this place out for myself, the tall blonde lady bartender was very unfriendly and rude, I feel discriminated not once was I asked if I was okay, the vibes not welcoming.... white wine taste horrible like it was diluted..I had 2 sip of it and walked out, Never again!
If youve been to the Dont Tell Mama in Las Vegas and you loved it, Im guessing you will not be impressed by this location. Im not saying that other patrons were not enjoying the overly theatrical singing, but for me it was not entertaining. Mea Cupla - I do recognize that it is located in the Theater District. So, my bad. On a positive note the beer was cold and it served fast by a friendly waiter.
Outstanding place !!The best live music venue I ve been to in NYC so far .Sooo many great professional musicians (Paddy on the piano I believe that night) performing songs all of kind!you can also ask and they ll perform your song!Bartenders are amazing and perform too !!Very good cocktails as well.definitely recommend that cool intimate yet smashing live music venue :)
We just left here. Had a great time. We tipped cash AND card. They chased us down the street to offend us about the card tip, because THEY DID NOT SEE THE $20.00 CASH TIP. Very unprofessional, do not go here.
What an awesome place. The staff are the entertainment and take turns. Your server is bringing you drinks one minute and on stage the next. Very very talented people, all trying to make it and be discovered. Food is absolutely amazing. Definitely worth the visit. Would love to go back, some day.
Wonderful staff, but definitely an older crowd....and I am in my 50s. Felt like the piano player was ignoring our request because it wasnt a show tune (yes, I tipped w/ the request). And yes, the drinks are very pricey. I would suggest Bar Nine for a livelier dueling piano atmosphere and better prices.
Had an amazing time, singing wait staff, comedy, piano bar ... it has it all. A must go to spot!
OMG, we had such a great time!! They let my 12 year old nephew in. It is the one piano bar I found that will allow children in. They advise children to leave by 10pm, when the lyrics get really racy. I just loved it, and the 12 year old loved it and I think he will never forget it. This is the kind of experience that can make a gay kid realize that hes not alone, or help a young person realize that his or her outrageous sensibilities are shared by many. The chocolate cake was great, too.
Stop advertising for free drinks and give us a show. The piano player has been letting us know his drink preference for 10 minutes.Sing a damned song. Isn’t that what you’re here for????
It’s a great place to hang out and listen to music. Unfortunately, it’s not handicapped accessible. I attended a cabaret show with my parents and we had a tough time getting to the room where the show was. My father uses a scooter and he needs a ramp to get into the room. The staff were very helpful in helping us out
What a cool restaurant. Our server was phenomenal. The portions are smaller but delicious. I wish we had time to stay for the piano bar. Don’t mess up and miss it like we did!
Usually love this place. Have been here dozens of times. But tonight the piano player was awful. The piano itself was SO LOUD you could not hear the singers at all!! Very uncomfortable night!!! Just a bunch of noise that HURT your ears!!! TURN IT DOWN!!!! WTH?!?!
Awesome venue, super friendly and supportive staff. My friend booked this space for her one woman show and it was a great experience. I ended up eating two meals in their restaurant and the food was decent. Menu provides a good selection such that people with a variety of dietary preferences can still find a suitable meal.
The comedy show was great until the last act. The feature comic was a complete jerk & attacked us because we didn’t laugh. We left & the manager said he would talk to us outside to make it right. We got outside & he laughed & said he only told me that so we would leave. I guess that’s why there were only a dozen people in the room for the show.
Really quite a lot of fun! Two-drink minimum but the drinks are good. They really blast the music which seems unnecessary since its the kind of place where you would both listen to the entertainers and chat with your friends.. I was glad I brought ear plugs.
Outstanding staff, great music, and reasonably priced cocktails for the area. We had a wonderful time!
Literally a hidden gem! Go down the stairs to enter this musical (piano bar) wonderland. Fun atmosphere,.ok food, great drinks. Did i say fun? Yes!
Fantastic piano bar! There is always a dedicated piano player, who will sometimes be accompanied by one or two baristas in song. Song requests can be made! Great fun and live entertainment. One star taken away because the cocktails seemed a bit watered down, but all else considered, this would be on the list of places to hit on every visit to NYC!
A good find in the theater district. The atmosphere and staff were very nice. For my main course, I had Eggplant Ravioli which I was looking forward to since I had never had it before. For dessert, I had an excellent slice of Lemon Meringue Pie in which the meringue and custard were evenly in proportion!
While the show was nice the waiters were not as friendly and the food was very bland. The waiters had a terrible attitude after charging us for drinks they never served, ended up billing us for a cover charge we were not supposed to pay and they charged us automatic gratuity even though we were less than a party of 5.Left the place feeling slightly ripped off ...
Great fun! Everyone should visit this place - drinks and fantastic entertainment! Bar staff sing and they are very, very good!
Prob the worst crowd involved piano bar player i have ever seen. All the table conversations over play the song being sung by the piano player. The worst time I have had here and at any piano bar! Do not come here when this guy is playing and I apologize I do not know his name. This is New Years Weekend, you got to bring out the all stars!
I Love it since 1994
The funnest evening in NYC. Small piano bar with talented performers.. Warm, comfortable like singing in your living room. Was entertained by the pianist and various performers coming to the mic. Minimum 2 drinks/no cover. Food okay, not great......Definitely worth going for the experience and the entertainment.
Really fun place that is actually 2 places. The restaurant and piano bar are separate spaces connected by a door. Dinner was good, would eat there again. Piano bar was fun. The staff joins in the siniging from time to time. Only dropped a star because at times, the soloists were uncomfortably loud. Really had to scream to talk to the person next to you. All in all though, we will go again.
Ive been to a few shows here and the talent is often great. My only issues are that the venue is a bit small with a crowded seating arrangement and theres only one bathroom stall. But if a cabaret performer you enjoy is planning to perform here, its worth it.
Always a great atmosphere. Good drinks, fun and thoughtful staff.
I quite like the restaurant/Piano Bar. The put a lot of priority in the presentation of food however with that came less care of how it tasted, the food was not bad just I ordered the meatballs and spaghetti, while the spaghetti was not bad the meatballs tasted slightly undercooked and was quite soft. If they had cooked it more I could have enjoyed it more. They give a good range of food for all ethnicities and religions. Overall I really liked it. The music choice is very relaxed and I was able to listen to a number of great classics that I hadnt heard in years.
Pretty basic food, albeit pricey. Our server was nice but the food was mediocre at best. Our party ordered the chicken demi-glaze, the duck, chicken chorizo dish and spaghetti and was underwhelmed. Im thinking people come here more for the show/atmosphere & drinks rather than the food.
Awesome experience. Very quaint and laid-back. Other diners seems very pleased with experience as well. As far as piano bars go my favorite please go and enjoy! Try it out. Cheers, David.
Soooo loud!!! Can you close the door, at least keep the noise inside your bar!!!!
This place is ridiculously over priced, I called to find out about an event on the private room, or their piano bar, called several times nobody called me back then I called I spoke to three people they all said there is two minimum drink no cover charge. I made reservation, the waitress was rude and unfriendly, I ordered two sodas, they brought me practically two cup of ice, when I asked for less ice she refused to change it, total cups did not even came to one can of soda at $7.50 each then they charged me $10.00 cover charge that was not mentioned. Total two cup of ice came to $27.00 without tips. Ridiculous place to go and spend your money.
Ive been coming here for years for pre and post theater dinner and entertainment. The Piano Bar is great and I love the food in the restaurant.I also like seeing the cabaret shows in their two theaters, their Friday night comedy show is one of the best kept secrets in New York City, I regularly see comics who I see at the Comedy Cellar and Carolines, plus music acts too! They have a piano on stage after all!
I loved this place! Great staff, wonderful entertainment, and good for a couple drinks! I will definitely return if I am ever back in New York.
Great restaurant with excellent food and good atmosphere. We had made an opentable reservation for this restaurant and definitely would do the same in the future since it appears to get busy on the weekends. It has a more relaxed atmosphere and offers shows in the evening which is also neat -- my only gripe was with the attentiveness of the staff. The entrance is somewhat ambiguous since it is a split level brown stone with no clear markings as to where to enter the restaurant. We entered in the wrong door and were instructed to head to the other side which had no clear hostess table / staff to great us in any way. After moseying along in the restaurant aimlessly we were able to track down a server who pointed us in the right direction.
The wait staff switches off on songs, and they were all amazing singers, especially the female bartender who gave me chills! Piano player was great, so funny. Lively fun place right off of Times Square!
Just another Times Square tourist trap. Birdland has better music, food and bar
In the past three months Ive seen 2 cabaret shows. One at Dont Tell Mama. Each show was terrific a great deal of fun and inspiring. The places were tightly packed with chairs and various tables, which is understandable since the performers prepay for the space and then gets half of the bank.Besides the entry fee, theres a two-drink minimum, which shouldnt scare you off since the minimum is not as much as it could be for two drinks (at DTM). Thankfully unlike the other Cabaret space they also sell food. Albeit its cute because theyre small portions, it is yummy.Food, drinking, an inspiring and fun show, what could better?Find a show or artist you like or wish to find out more about and GO!
What an amazingly wonderful dining experience! The food, drinks, waitress and atmosphere were all top notch...and Im hard to please!
Its in the most touristy part of Manhattan. It looks like a dive. But it is one of the best values in town. No cover charge and reasonably priced drinks served by performers. The music is continuous, the performers are sometimes amazing and the crowd is adult. Hidden Gem.
I WILL NEVER BE BACK!!! Staff was terrible, everything is way overpriced, we are in here like sardines and the show was depressing. The singer... and yes he was only a singer cause someone else wrote all of his material... was a tone deaf old rich white dude complaining about how hard his life was snorting coke everyday while the poor baby owned a real estate company. Puhlease spare me the dramatics. Typical entitled privileged white guy. How dare you call this a comedy show and to call yourself an entertainer when you didn’t even write the music.Oh and to add to it. The waitress couldn’t give me a receipt and was wondering why I was “yelling at her.” I’m sorry that I have to speak loudly for anyone to hear and the service was awful.
Definitely overrated and -priced for its true value. Also, we did not enjoy the piano players attitude, as he it was mostly „begging“ to buy him a drink/shot of Patrone during the breaks. I don’t think the he connected with the crowd that night, unfortunately.
A delightful music venue in a perfect spot - walking distance from the touristy 42nd street/Broadway mayhem, but surrounded by ethnic restaurants and food carts, and far enough from the glitz to have a neighborhood charm. Not cheap - the cover for the cabaret act we saw was $20 per person plus a 2 drink minimum, but the servers were friendly, the show was terrific, and we couldnt have asked for a better evening.
Good food good music
I had a really nice time here. The music is fun and exceptionally talented. And the bartender knew how to make a sidecar!
Such a great time, very entertaining
We love this place. The singers are amazing. The company of the bartenders was so nice. Please visit when in ny.
Loved it! Uhm.... these folks hustle!!! Thank YOU!
Sat in the piano bar area, staff and service was a delight. Amazing singers and took on request, the bartender was making drinks and singing at the same time!Overall great experience
The lady on the Piano made my night! Such a beautiful musician! Made me feel very happy. The drinks were great and I had great company! A very memorable night! :-)
Wonderful talent in a supportive venue. I went for a cabaret show, it was a lot of fun. It was a great way to see rising and seasoned talents competing. I cant speak on the food, all that I had was the 2 drink minimum (2 glasses of cheap quality wine). Service was decent although not very friendly.
Loved singing along to the great songs from classic rock to show tunes. Amazing how the bartenders and servers can sing while pouring drinks
Its great and quick if you are about to see a show, but the food leaves a little to be desired. Not super flavorful. Great bread though, before your meal!
Service was terrible. Never come here for any of their paid shows. Their wine is terrible (either the wine itself or they idiotically put ice with the wine to chill it) and they charge $10 for it and require you to buy two! The cheapest drink is $6.50 for a can of coke! They charge their tip to your bill without even asking you. The tab for THREE PEOPLE was $144 dollars (granted the show was $20 cover per person). The venue is cash only and yet they still charge tax on the bill! Thats just the service! No one should ever pay for a Tym Moss show. Its what I would classify as your typical white man moan. He sings very well. Ill give him that. I also commend him for coming clean about his issue with cocaine. But his cabaret show highlighted just how out of touch he is with reality and how privileged he was. He complained about how bad he had it owning a real estate company and doing cocaine every day. I enjoyed the person playing at the bar before the show better than I enjoyed the show.
Dreadful place. Staff are so up their own arses. Considering it’s a piano show bar you’re not allowed to sing along or heaven forbid you dare dance! We were yelled at for not tipping enough but why would you tip for slow service when the teenage waitress looks down her nose at you all night, encouraged by a pompous manager!! Far better bars in Manhattan, avoid at all costs unless the pretentious is your thing!!
Went there with two friends for our 50th birthday and we had a blast
We did not have a great time here. This place had been on my radar for a long time as a legendary cabaret venue, and I was excited to go. But the place was empty, they brought us the wrong drinks, and then hassled us when we tried to get the check because they said there was a drink minimum that the hostess should have told us about (we had not been told). The pianist was great, even through he was a substitute, filling in for one of the regulars. We made some requests and he played them beautifully. But overall, the service left so much to be desired I would not hurry back here.
Really fun place to go after a Broadway show. They have a limited food menu and drinks are a little pricey, but the experience is terrific. Very talented staff that sing for you and take requests. I was very impressed.
The service was outstanding! Food and wine were wonderful! We sat at the bar and Marcel was amazing. Overall it was a wonderful dining experience!! We have eaten at a few other restaurants on Restaurant Row and they have it figured out!
Its like no other place around. Funky caberet and interesting staff. The tables are super tight so you will meet your neighbors. Typically the crowd is friendly too, likely because the vibe is a happy one
This joint is fantastic and full of surprises... staffed with theater actors/singers that SING background while serving the guests without missing a beat.. loved the ambiance but can be pricey
The staff here made this one of the best times Ive ever hadLoved every minute of it
Great fun at a cabaret bar featuring local talent. Wonderful place for a post-theatre cocktail
Fantastic piano bar! A place you should definitely tell your mama about. Was here for my birthday and had a blast. The place is small and intimate and the lead pianist is always engaging and gracious with song requests. He also did a birthday song for me. Audience is great too, always singing along and never rowdy. Was surprised to see the friendly bartenders take part in the show, as singers or pianists. Drinks and food are priced reasonably.
I was hesitant at first but ended up pleasantly surprised. Our server Josh was nice and knowledgeable. The tomatoes in the caprese lacked flavor and color but overall, with some salt and pepper, was good. The entrees came through nicely and timely. Some other reviews seemed to complain about portion size for price point, however for NYC the price was reasonable and the portions were just right for a normal person. This isnt a buffet. I only wish I couldve stayed for the piano caberet. Didnt stay for dessert but Im sure it wouldve been good. Comfy atmosphere. Music during meal didnt match the environment though. Still, giving five stars because there is no 4.5.
Good food and decent service once we were seated. A bit of an issue with them getting us marked down for the correct reservation and them trying to say someone else in our party had canceled it, but the table service and food were good.
Always love going here at least once every trip to Broadway. Always fun. Have met some interesting and fun people.
Excellent food and service. We had the salmon, chicken, and ravioli. Josh was fantastic!! Would most definitely recommend.
Love the cabaret that has a great variety of shows and the pretty decent restaurant next door but dont appreciate the piano bar requiring a two drink minimum. A two drink minimum at the bar? Puh-leeze! I usually do buy two drinks or more when Im in a bar that I like, but it irks me to see the sign on the wall demanding it.
So much fun! All the staff perform as well as serve. Lots of talent among the servers and the patrons. Sing along and have a raucous good time! Wide range of ages. Very supportive and fun atmosphere.
Had a blast. Pianist was very funny and drinks were strong. Not much more to ask for.
I would never go to NYC without spending an evening here. The staff blew my mind with their show tune knowledge and incredible singing. You can put in requests and they sing them for you. My request was picked up and I was worried it would be a difficult one All I ask of you - Phantom of the Opera, The girl sang it while taking orders at the bar and putting money through the till and it sounded as good as it did at the show. Drinks were also very good and reasonably priced. Do yourself a favour and check it out! Keep up the good work guys I loved it !
We have loved it every time. The talent has been impressive!
Heres the thing, our waitress/performer Lauren was Phenomenal...truly! However, the manager on duty was a Jerk. He stated that my friend and I couldnt sit next to each other (because there was a waitlist for tables) and yet when we left, because of his incredibly rude attitude, we checked to see who was waiting...and there was no one. Manager to manager, speaking, he needs to learn the value of good customer service. He was the reason we left- Way to intense!
Good old cabaret space. Decent food. Good drinks.
We found this beautiful piano bar killing us softly with its classic neighborhood charm! We sang along with the bar tenders and waitress till midnight and decided to stay a night in the city!
This is a small, intimate restaurant on Restaurant Row located below grade in a row house like most other places in this area. The menu covers the basics in a variety of food types (steak, fish, chicken, etc.) but doesnt have a large variety. For example, if you want steak there is one option. Service was very attentive and the atmosphere was quaint and unique. It was a very small place which added to the atmosphere. The signature garlic bread appetizer was very good. The food was good. Not the best value in the world but typical of what youd expect on this street in this area.
Great place. The server ryan was just phenomenal. I ordrres the steak is was medium well to gordan ramsey standards. I will come back again to indulge in the other delights they offer.
