We live on the edge of this park and I regularly enjoy walks along its many trails. Bugs are brutal in summer but spring and fall are glorious. Deer and turkey are frequently seen and the landscape has an impressive variety.
First time visitor. Swimming hole would be awesome on a hot summer day. Will come back. This park is located on the edge of the beautiful city of New Ulm.
Well run facility. Access to trails, river and modern and rustic camping. Staff is friendly and very professional. Next to city of New Ulm. German culture with many great sites to see!
Stayed here on 8/30-09/01/2020The park is beautiful and people nice.Seems overpriced $39 ($32 plus $7 booking fee) and have to have MN park pass ($35 year) or $7 a day - for electric only)Campground needed new gravel as it was a little washed out the water at this park was terrible it smelled and initially looked clear but even through a filter on hose it was yellow, maybe rust not sure beware!!! Similar water in other MN State Parks. Mesquites were terrible. If I stayed again would have a full tank of clean fresh water.
After a weekend staying in the Stone CCC cabin and swimming all day, every day, the park shot to my Top 5 favorite MN State parks! I adored the cute and quaint stay at the cabin, the only stone house loaded with history. There was an issue with check-in that put my son and I in a hotel for a night, but the park manager worked fast to make the experience great! The pool is perfect for kids and adults that just want to lounge. I cant wait to go back!!
This was a great park with lots for the kids to do! When we went there were soooo many butterflies, some great special memories with the boys(3 & 5 to) ! We stayed in the stone cabin, while it was small it was pretty amazing at keeping the heat at bay with no air conditioning! The rangers had some cool activity kits available for rent but my kids choose the free book. I think the other packets were more geared to older kids I think. Maybe 7-8. Lots of trails for hiking and the pool was amazing. It was pretty hot so we spent most of the time in the pool or on the beach.
Great sand pool with zero depth entry. Totally need to go back in the summer.
Beautiful! I love state parks and the reason for 4 star is its a campground, you gotta have shwrs even if only one person at a time, your putting urself at risk going camping, shwring shld be an option at your own risk to.
Very rustic yet also very modern. Its a sort of like the best of both worlds
Great state park! The camping during the week was quiet and pleasant. Fire rings seemed rather new and bathrooms were consistently cleaned.Pool was nice but the sand was more like gravel and not friendly. Probably because someone wanted to save a few bucks by not bringing in real sand. Sand would have made it 5 stars.Plenty of easy hiking available. Would go again but not for the pool.
Did not spend much time here we were really just passing through. It was in a strange place right in town like it is. I will say it was very nice with some neat history and cool looking buildings. The staff was great and showed us lots of pictures and gave us a good lesson on the history of the park.
Covid closed the pool when we visited. Otherwise great park for kids
Great place for a picnic, swimming, camping and scenery. Its nearly impossible to go and not see at least 3 deer. Beautiful state park.
Great camping areas. Some were alittle open for my taste but the had a great selection. We were sad the pond wasnt open for swimming due to COVID but will have to come back to check it out. Lots of hiking trails and lots of mosquitoes.
Pool and office closed (Covid). Limited camping, bathhouse closed. Campsites are nicely spaced. Would camp here again
Great views and so close to downtown New Ulm.
Good place to explore during fall colors.
Great place to trail hike and to see the river, and a little campsite and a little park, and theres a great pool there! With a snack bar!
Nice place, semi rustic camping prices are decent. Bundled.fire wood on site to buy is only 6.00 for a pretty big bundle.
Great timeI WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY 10/10
It is a rustic State Park. Plenty of hiking trails. Due to COVID-19 many aspects of the park remain closed.
Great state park to still go to. I remember going with my family when I was younger and now we bring our kids. We went there recently this spring for some hiking and it was great! Some trails were temporarily closed from the river rising, but Im sure theyll be back open this year. Definately recommend going for just a day adventure or weekend camping get away!
Flandrau is a very beautiful, picturesque state park that offers many opportunities for enjoying the outdoors. The hiking trails range from easy to moderately challenging, and there are also seasonal activities such as swimming during the summer, and cross country skiing and snowshoeing during the winter. There are also a few lookout points that have some great views of the Cottonwood River valley. If youre looking to get outdoors and enjoy some fresh air, I highly recommend this park.
Great place to bring your kids to enjoy nature or bring to go swimming in the man made lake. Plenty of area to host a birthday party or family reunion. Has public restroom that are very clean. You can either host your party outside or they have a great indoor party area with full kitchen. Man made lake is very well maintained and has lifegaurds on duty.
The park has a lot of potential, seemed to still be recovering from a recent flood and covid the beach was not open.
Disappointed no mow prairie in picnic area. Lifeguards on duty very responsible and polite, very happy pool is much cleaner than other years. Really need pool very hot summer very good for peoples morale and exercise so fun with family and water ball etc.
Its always amazing to hike, walk, run...
Good shade on hot days, not overly buggy, great outdoor pond like pool for kids and adults... Camping sites are pretty close together so you hear a lot of the people around you but they have walk-in sites set farther back that offer more privacy. Nicely kept park!
Dont waste your gas or time. Youll never get it back.!
Is a gorgeous park swimming hole and camping
Hiking club trail was pretty scenic. Fall colors here would be great! Goat signs were funny but did not see any goats.
Clean, nice paved road around the campgrounds makes for easy bike riding for little kids. Playground and swimming pond just a short walk away, but we were really bummed to get here and find out, on Aug 23rd, that the swimming pond was already closed for the season. It was the reason we chose this campground, and in August I would certainly expect it to still be open.
Nice hike, parts were muddy
Please enjoy a nice walk here with a loved one or by yourself. Breath of fresh air every time. Great for your health.
Great park, next to the great town of New Ulm. Dont miss Oktoberfest!
Great park. Kids love the sand bottom swimming pond. Some of the park could use updating and repair but a nice park nonetheless.
Not much to do without the swimming hole open and it a bit buggy because of standing water which isnt their fault but still
Not very well maintained. This use to be a great State Park to visit but they no longer mow and trim like they use to do. This Park looks abandoned. What a shame for a park that use to draw lots of people to now look like this.
Kids of all ages can keep busy on the shallow edge, playing in the sand. One end stays shallow for younger kids, the other gets deeper quickly. Well marked. The area is clean, with ample parking nearby. There is a nice playground, with places to grill or picnic. The many hiking trails through the park off views of the river or calming woods.
Kind of surprised that campground is not full on 4th of July weekend. Guess a lot of people must have been expecting the No Fun Police to be in full patrol, but theyve actually been few and far between. Despite the rain its been a great weekend.
Beautiful scenery, and colorful
Beautiful get away and very quiet.
The pool is closed and only half of the sites are available.
The maintenance in the park and campground in particular leaves a lot to be desired. Lawn was not mowed before the holiday weekend, old wooden sign posts from years ago still in place and rotting, restrooms in poor condition, shower heads plugged, tiles stained, etc etc. Some state parks you enter and are impressed by the upkeep. Unfortunately this isnt one of them.
Very nice park. Hiking trails were good and the kids loved the swimming. Great time.
Sand bottom pool was great. The semi-modern campground does not have electrical sites.
Love the pond there to swim in sand bottom Pool.Water temperature was great.Life Guards are always friendly.
Lots to do with the convenience of bordering a mid-sized community.
We had a great time at the campground. The spots were spacious enough, it was quiet - even for 4th of July, the electricity never failed even in the 90 degree weather, and the sand bottom pool was a perfect way to escape the heat! There were also a TON of lightening bugs at night - SO beautiful. My only complaints were that the grass should have been mowed in the campground - it was long when we got there, the bathrooms and showers always seemed to be dirty, and the mosquitos/gnats/flies were AWFUL (probably part of the long grass problem).
Nice park. Well maintained. Kids love the swimming area.
Always a peaceful, quiet relaxing park with nature trails where one typically sees wildlife.
Love this place, haven’t hiked it yet but when swimming with the family, will continue to go as much as possible.
Stayed in the camper cabin. Very charming! Nice big porches to hang out on. Close to town and the brewery. Im bringing people back this summer.
Beautiful! Friendly staff.. beautiful grounds
Beautiful camping place
Nice park! Some of the trails werent marked very well.
A great park great place to camp, great staff.Lots of things to do from hiking, swimming, historic town.
Pretty wooded park with nice hiking trailsCampsites are too close together and it lacks any big natural scenery attractions.
I cannot believe $31+ $7 for reservation fee + $7 for entrance fee. If I did not did not take a stand, I would have been charged $7 for my toad. Which would have been a total of $45. I tried to use the dump station for wastewater. It was flooded, one of the potable water spigot was in operative .The site was significantly unlevel, loose sand, and very small (approximately 30). Once again I paid $38 for a site in a state park which is the most Ive EVER paid. I should have gone on thru to Wisconsin. No more state parks in Minnesota for me. This left a very bad taste.
Nice senic Park. Many trails. Nice swimming area. Its a good place to relax and enjoy
Beautiful!! Great time. Even saw a family of 5 dear up close.
It was easy to find. The park ranger at check in was amazing and friendly. Made my mom and u feel welcome and took it joking quite well and even hooked back with us. He was very helpful. Our campsite was easy to find and it was great that the entire park calmed down and were quiet all around the same time. Courteous neighbors. And last but not least close to the River Valley BMX track. Im here for State races. Price of the campsite fit my budget.
Great little park! Great for picnics, has a river for swimming, and great for campfires! I always walk on the trails with my girlfriend. Its a great place!
My 2 and 4 year old daughters enjoy the sand bottom chlorinated swimming pond. Its a great place for them to swim and play in the sand. Crowds are limited before 10:00am. Bathrooms and showers are clean. Buy a State Park pass and enjoy this place with your kids over and over again.
Great little park. Lots of trails to hike on, none really long so good for us with smaller kids. Big enough campground for our 36 travel trailer. The swimming area was closed early due to staffing shortages, but had it been open it would have been great, a very short walking distance from the campground to the park/pool area. Literally in the town of New Ulm, so there is plenty to do outside the park as well. This is one of my favorites.
Campsites are too close together and lack any separation. Very small park. During our visit half the trails were closed due to erosion damage and the midges were the worst ever! Citronella candles, Thermacell, DEET (both 25% and 98%), bug zappers and bug traps did nothing to deter them. No good fishing options except some riverfront. Not all bad, the city of New Ulm is a great place to visit and the park offers an inexpensive place to stay for that.
One of my favorite places to hike or just take the kids swimming
Beautiful area! Place to swim and plenty of trails to walk or hike!
Beautiful State Park with great camping, trails for all seasons and a swimming pond.
Really nice for Mothers day weekend except at the time due to the fact the park was not fully open there was not much to do
Great place the trails werent to muddy or flooded it was fun walking with the dogs.
Lovely time in the big shelter! Great setup with the fireplace, kitchen, bathrooms, etc.
Awesome park! Love the sand bottom pool!
Beautiful, peaceful and serene. I could stay here a month.
Its ok could be cleaner facilitys and the life guards could at least wait until your kids done playing with the sand castle before they destroy it with there racks. Not really even sure why they do that I can understand at the end of the day. When a kid works really hard on something and they come up to show you and right as they turn around and point theres a stranger with a rack destroying it! Just saying.
This is an older state park. Very convenient if youre visiting New Ulm. However, sites are literally on top of one another and there is no privacy. We were there over 3 days, and as much as the rangers were visible (up to once per hour in the evening), the drop toilet was serviced once during our stay.
Nice smaller park with a very nice swimming area, nats are bad but very few mosquitos wife had to clean the shower before using it
A beautiful camp ground and park. Great trails
Good place for summer activity.. Has life guards and acces to public waters campground. Fishing areas
Sites are small but laid out so it doesnt feel so crowded
Very well taken care of, lots of walking trails for a smaller park.
Nice park, nice hiking trails, & a pool for the kids of all ages.
Beautiful park. Many options to stay
