Amazing Experience! We had a very thorough and kind tour guide that told us about all of the fascinating history and also some of his personal experience. Very family friendly, handicap accessible, and has a children’s play room. Very kind staff and excellent cleanliness. We were reminded of the hard work and amazing service our firemen do that we often forget is very difficult! We love this place and will definitely be back.

Historic Firehouse with vehicles and other items dating back more than a century. Good guided tour and then you can stay for as long as you like. $7/adult, $5/kid, and children under 5 are free. Right in downtown New Bern. Good for about an hour to hour and half, especially with small kids.

What a great little gem in downtown New Bern! We took our 4 kids ranged in age 9 to 2 and they all loved it. The admission is very reasonable for a family. Joe, our tour guide, was super informative, engaging, friendly and wonderful with our kids. Theres a kids play area upstairs that all our kids enjoyed. We were in the area for vacation and it was a nice activity for 1-2 hours in the afternoon. Its definitely an interesting museum and a fun stop in New Bern.

Very informative tour by Mr. Joe. The whole family stayed engaged...from 2.5 yrs to 10 yr old kids. Very interesting. Numerous old trucks. Staff super friendly and willing to help point out other points of interest around town for the family. With a family of 6 were always looking for a good value and I would say this fit the bill. The guided tour brought it all to life and answered any questions. ...way better than just walking around reading signs. Kids loved the hands on play room at the end where they could dress up, slide down a fire pole, pretend to drive a fire truck and fight a fire.

This is a first class museum featuring an all-local collection of firefighting equipment and apparatus in a city that led the state in firefighting technology in the 19th century. New Bern is one of the oldest cities in North Carolina and its fire department was one of the first in the state. The fire department’s quirky history is particularly interesting, not to mention a display about the great New Bern Fire of the early 20th century. Plan to spend several hoursIf you go.

A smaller museum detailing the history of the New Bern fire department. Two nicely restored horse drawn steam pumpers, very well restored American Lafrance pumper and hook and ladder trucks. Several photographs and lots of details about the big fire. The building itself is a gem. Small souvenir shop. Parking on the street. Wheelchair accessible. Very nice staff. Worth a visit for history bluffs, serving or retired Firefighters.

One of the many little gems I saw in New Bern NC yesterday. Back in the early days if you did not have fire insurance they would just let your house burn. Also learned how the Fire doge was used to clear the way for the horses and keep the horses from running off because they were removed from the hitches at the fire because if horses fear of fire. Got a personal tour and was only $5.00 to seen. I enjoyed the tour greatly and how much she love to tell the stores.
