Very nice facility with articulate displays focused on North Carolina history. I especially enjoyed learning about the Barbour Boat Company. A New Bern industry that built small boats and during WWII, naval vessels from 1932 until late in the 80s.

There’s not much to this place other than a gift shop and small theater with a short film which lasted maybe 5 minutes. We did not go to the “family center” which is only for kids. The auditorium is closed for renovations, and the cafe is permanently closed as the business moved out.I’d avoid this place until it improves. You may want to call ahead and see what’s open.

The museum just keeps getting better and better every time I visit. It does a wonderful job of displaying artifacts, pictures, etc and providing information that tells a very comprehensive story of the history of the whole region. It is excellent!

Great museum for learning the history of New Bern side by side with a trip back in time to let the kids experience life in 1835. Must go place if you are bringing children to New Bern.

Holiday Fest was a bust. Few silent auction items, attendance was poor. Needs more marketing experience in setting up this event. 2017 event was great, 2018 was a bust, hopefully, 2019 has better planning.

We came here today for the first time and had a ball. There is so much to do here that I never knew about. The employees are very friendly and helpful. If you have kids with you be sure to check out the family center and go in the time machine, my 8 year old nephew loved it! With all of the activities and so much to see, the admission price is well worth it!

We went to see Hamiltunes. It was a free event hosted by the palace and performed by the civic center. It was a sing-a-long. Itwas a great time. Now while there they passed around a membership pamphlet. The prices for single start at $75 and go to 1000+. The prices for an average family $150. (2 adults with two kids under 18). The prices where high for what you got. I live less then 15 mins away and have to full price to go. No incentive or cheaper price for those in county or even in city limits. Free events happen but its never during peak time when stuff is blooming. Prices normally 20 for adults 10 for grades 1-12. Still high for only a days activity. What would bring in more people? Lowered amount on admission and lower amount on memebership for key demographic( family) and a special price those in the area. I have lived here 10 years gone 3 times. 2 free events one paid. Should sum it up.

Really cool place to go to with a nice surrounding area. Worth making a stop and taking a tour of the palace. This is also a place where they shot some of the scenes from the TV series Sleepy Hollow. You buy the tickets around the corner at the museum, which is another nice place and I recommend eating there at Lawsons Cafe.

Employees were extremely helpful! I was in search of a book I had seen on display at the Waystation. The manager indicated the one Id seen was the last one as it was out of print and volunteered to drive to pick it up to sell it to me. Now THATS customer service! We just wished they sold 4x6 NC flags as my sons are collectors of flags. :-)

The North Carolina History Center is an ideal location to learn about the history of North Carolina and the earlier colonial times in our history. If youre interested in African-American history, there is an abundance of information on their lives and struggles as slaves, as well as free people prior to the Civil War. The center also has interactive displays and is great for families.
