Decided to visit this museum as a quick morning stop for our 12 yo who is a WWII buff, ended up staying 3 hours...and still didnt see everything! This place surpasses even a major city venue. An incredible museum! Dont let the blank, industrial looking front and formidable secured entry ( ring the doorbell!!) put you off. This is an incredible wealth of WWII documents, uniforms, propoganda and weapons. The use of a self guided audio tour is excellent. And theres even a tank! To top it off, the staff was super helpful and engaging with both of our teenagers. Cant say enough for them! They had a ton of interesting tidbits of information and facts. Definitely a fun way to spend an afternoon!!
This collection is absolutely unmatched. The significance and history behind many of the pieces is amazing. I am still dumbfounded by how the owner was able to get his hands on much of this throughout the years. This is by far the most interesting museum Ive ever been to and the most interactive. Not sure of any other museum where you can hold an original MP44 without being a VIP. This museum is a must for any WWII or history buff.
This place has the Treaty of Versailles, surrender papers from Japan, Hitlers reading glasses/paintings, and much more. The employees were super nice and even shared some war stories. However, some of the artifacts were from the wrong time period or werent the right caliber. The fee is also somewhat pricey. Overall, this was a great place to stop at for a few hours.
I’ve been interested in World War Two for a couple of years and it was great to visit this museum. There’s so much packed in each of the rooms. It was amazing to hold the weapons and to know somewhat how those guardians of peace felt carrying those weapons into battle. The Best part was being able to talk to a veteran who had flown missions in a B-17. It was incredible to hear what he had to say about the B-17 as a plane and his experiences. This is definitely one of the best museums I’ve ever visited. It truly is a great museum.
Dont let the non-descript exterior worry you. The treasures inside are absolutely amazing. I have to admit that I initially thought the pricetag was a bit high for a small, local museum ($25 for adults, $15 for kids), but by the time we were done, I felt that it was worth every penny. The artifacts are extensive and extremely personal. There were several pieces that I couldnt believe were actually there. The museum is set up well; with so many pieces it never felt cluttered. Appropriate context was given for what you were looking at, and the audio tour (recorded by the museums owner) was a perfect complement for folks looking for even more historical background. The staff was also very helpful without being overbearing. The negatives? It looks sketchy as you pull up. Its not appropriately signed. You have to ring a doorbell and be let in, which feels odd. Then, youll need to fill out a waiver and go through a metal detector when you enter the exhibits. When you leave, youll go through another metal detector. It all seems odd, but when you see how many valuable artifacts are in the open and not under glass, its understandable. None of those things are a big deal, they are just something to keep in mind.Do yourself a favor and visit this excellent museum!
My son and I visited the museum in late July 2018 and were blown away by this WWII collection. We spent hours going through the museum and then turned around and went through again. I would highly recommend you plan a visit. The staff were very knowledgeable and eager to share their expertise. It was one of the highlights of our Boston area visit. I can’t wait to visit again after the museum expansion.Donny
A hidden gem if you want to learn or know about WWII. Its tucked away with only one door that is locked and no windows. You must use the buzzer to be let in. You also have to fill out a waver before you get there and its $25.00 and $20.00 if your over 65. So much to see!
Have to agree with Bob DeSanto about the gentleman who worked there. My daughter had to leave after a short time, due to a severe flare up of hives due to the mold. For some unknown reason he gave her a hard time during her exit. Very rude!Didn’t appreciate this especially after we had just spent $125.
What a phenomenal collection!!! No right and no wrong just history at its finest
A great museum with lots of neat little things you wont see anywhere else.
This is an astonishingly good museum - already one of the most interesting places in the Boston area, but destined to be in the first rank of all American museums. This is so not only because the collection is both comprehensive and intelligent, but also because the subject matter is so compelling. The Museum of World War II is a case of making a truly great story of humanity overcoming the forces of darkness come to life in an indelible way.
Its a great museum with a lot of cool artifacts that most museums dont think to get... I went in expecting to spend about an hour In it but ended up spending almost four hours! Its not the best place to bring small children considering that most of the stuff is not behind glass but if you are into history I would deffenetly recommend thus place to you!
Absolutely amazing! The amount of history on display was unbelievable. The personal artifacts, variety and quantity of items was so awe inspiring. Very moving and humbling experience. Cannot say enough!Thank you!
I happened upon this small museum when visiting Massachusetts for other reasons. It is fabulous, a true find, amazing collectibles from The German Third Reich and from the battles we undertook to defeat the Nazis in Europe and the Japanese Fascists in Asia. I spent 2 hours there and my visit was not comprehensive. Many originals, lots of history compacted into its easily tour-able space. Plus, the day I was there, Saturday, there was a 95 year old WW II bomber pilot who survived 34 successful missions for us, as a speaker, and he was full of deliciously detailed stories, I felt proud just to be in his presence. He had joined the Army in 1942, with no prior experience piloting aircraft. Not only did he learn how to drive, he learned to do so quickly and skillfully in the most challenging and critical time of the war. How fabulous was he and so many of his brethren who achieved what they achieved magnificently for all of us. If you ever think about that period, this is a Museum you ought not miss. Theyre building a bigger one and when its done, it will probably have a lot more stuff. That can be your second visit. See the original place now. DDC
I am going to enjoy the virtual tour and put on my wish list after retirement. I am a Navy brat, did a little work years ago for the Navy, and particularly missed hearing out on the speaker on the USS Phenakite.I am pretty sure the Art Foundation with the Raise the Sachem Campaign would really, really love to hear from anyone who served on board.( The ship is a mess but still exists...now 113 years old. It escaped from the ship breaker before they could cut her up. Check out Madonnas Poppa Dont You Preach video)Anyone know where to find parts for 1936 Packard diesels?
Several interesting and diverse exhibits ranging from Pattons African campaign to the experience of Jewish population in Warsaw, to Nazi and allied propaganda posters, to survival kits for pilots, etc. The space is bursting with amazing documents and items. Hopefully, the expansion will come soon, this collection deserves a larger space. Overall, super impressive little museum.
Place is locked up like fort knox and the silver haired guy who works there is a jerk. Not a people person. Go to a real museum instead. Showed up there at 4:30 yesterday but they would let my son and me in for 20 minutes even though they didnt close until 5. I would definitely not bring children there.
There are items in this museum that will both take your breath away and make you mad. It has a stunning array of antiquities that are unprecedented for a museum of its size. Please go there, you WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED
A truly spectacular collection of WWII artifacts, well presented.
Awesome place for those interested in World War II. 25 bucks to get in.
Excellent collection of WW2 stuff! There are more than 6,000 wartime artifacts to look at. All the items are authentic, original, and real. What sets this aside from every other museum is that you are allowed to touch most of the items. Just be careful not to drop anything! A lot of the items are heavier than they look. Small arms are EVERYWHERE! You can handle them but are not allowed to work the bolt or action on any rifle. You must print out and sign a waiver to have ready when you arrive. It sates that you must pass through a metal detector when you leave and that you are interacting with vintage weapons of war that could expose the visitor to injury or death. I did not need the 4+ hours to look at everything like some of the reviews say. I got through it in about 2 and half hours. If you stop to read every single letter and telegram then you will need more time. The only down side is that they ask you not to take pictures when you are in the holocaust and hitler exhibits. Its about a 40 minute ride from the south shore. Leave early to avoid Boston traffic. The building is not big but every inch of it will grab your attention. its crammed with history. There is a eerie section of hitlers personal products that were recovered from his bathroom in the fuhrer bunker and other locations. You can also view blondies dog collar and a blood spattered piece of the couch that hitler sat on when he blew his brains out. The best $25 i ever spent. Wear light clothing, its warm in there. They give you a phone where you can hear a detailed message from the museums founder on what your looking at and where it was acquired from and other trivia. Whenever you see a display with a two or three digit number, just dial it into the phone and you will have your own virtual guide.
If you have any interest in ww2 this is a must see museum. Superb collection. Unique artifacts. Make sure you allow enough time to visit. If you get out in less than three hours youll feel rushed.
Are you kidding me? This is THE MOST unbelievable collection of WW2 items, documents and artifacts that I have ever seen, AND they will be expanding to exhibit even more amazing historical items in the future.Definitely a place to visit. Its like a great movie; you cant absorb it all in one visit so I will have to go back again!! jh
So many artifacts to interact with and learn from.
Highly suggest this place, incredibly personal experience, you are allowed to pick up the guns (with trigger locks) and some of the small artifacts, it is small in size but huge in personality and true representation.
Outstanding collection. My son thoroughly enjoyed it.
Aboslutely amazing, i got to hold the weapons and the grenades, 100/10 would certainly come again
Outstanding collection. Went with my 92 year old WWII veteran father and he was please with presentation and knowledge of staff.
While this is a large collection of period items, the entrance fee of $25 and the extensive security checks was a bit off putting.
The collection in this museum is Stunning! They Have EVERYTHING! Look at the virtual tour on the web site for detailed information. One thing is you can Handle a lot of this stuff. We were allowed to actually encode a message and then decode ON A WORLD WAR 2 ENIGMA MACHINE! Are you kidding? Hands on, Marvelous. Most of the weapons (except handguns) can be picked right up and tried on for size, you can actually get an idea of what an Sturmgewehr 44, assault rifle 44 felt like. That is considered the first assault rifle made. Same goes for Thompson submachine gun, M1 Garrand, just about any long gun from the war. Although you cannot pick them up, the 50 caliber, 30 caliber machine guns are displayed in the open on tripods, you get an idea of how they actually felt....and we have not even mentioned the sherman tank, private papers of FDR, Churchill, Hitler....A collection that has to be seen! This place is the BEST!!! I am GOING BACK SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing collection of WW2 artifacts. It is physically small but very dense.
Nice collection
What an amazing collection!
Literally a hidden gem.
