The Palm Cottage in a Naples Treasure. Very close to the pier. The very old house has seen the tremendous transformation of Naples into a world class resort destination. A docent tour of the house adds so much to the history that this house exudes. They also have a extensive collection of OLD Naples pictures that are a delight to see. You will enjoy the tour.

My favorite banyan tree lives outfront on the street. Mary, the most powerfully beautiful banyan tree by the sea. A monumental dinosaur, with stretching limbs like an umbrella of leaves. I love to sit & visit & sketch from underneath, while this gentle giant shades me & the little cottage beside it a few feet. So lucky to have her here in Naples, are we, as well as all of those beach-going feet passing beneath.

I went along as a chaperone on my 4th graders class trip. The staff there was friendly, patient, helpful and lively! The kids learned a bit of interesting history... a glimpse at life before all the modern luxuries existed. What a fun time!

Our tour of Palm Cottage, the oldest home in Naples, was enriched by the fascinating details and surprising historical accounts provided by our very knowledgeable docent, a true historian who was able to relay meaningful information spanning several generations. From the earliest settlements and aided by the persistence of several key visionaries, we can still enjoy a glimpse into life before the turn of the century and well before the 150+ inhabitants of this gem on the west end of the Tamiami Trail witnessed its growth to its present size. It was a real delight to learn about the role that Memphis-born Baron Collier played in the early infrastructure development and modernization of this region of Florida, with a focused effort to move neighboring Collier County forward into the next century. Visionaries were responsible in many ways for Naples’ historical growth, the completion of the Tamiami Trail, the first street lighting and creation of historical landmarks in this region, and historians like our docent at Palm Cottage continue their commendable work as trustees of that rich history. This is a must-see tour for anyone interested in learning about the historical beauty of Naples.
