Great basketball learning experience for girls! Love the organization of this overnight skills camp; and, all of the kids get ample playing time! Athletic trainer on-site, most coaches are former players and the location at North Central College is a great one.

Excellent camp! My daughter made great friendships and learned so much! She had nothing but positive comments about the camp. She mastered skills she had been working on. Incredibly positive - strongly recommend

This camp is awesome! Both my daughters have attended multiple times and each has taken away knowledge, skills and a deeper love of the game! Thank you Doug Bruno and your extraordinary and exceptional staffers for another great experience!

Great camp, Ive seen significant improvements after each of the camps my child has attended with Doug Bruno (5 now) . They give them great instruction on how to implement the strategies for at-home practice. If kids are bored after one day, as another poster suggests, its likely because the child isnt disciplined enough or hasnt the attention span to practice drills, and not just run up & down the courts. The kids DO play tons of games, by the way. And of course the kids are indoors. Thats where basketball is played. If it was outdoors, people would complain its too hot. There is a swimming pool the kids can take advantage of each night for a couple of hours. The kids have downtime, too. They can go outside of they wish. Its a bit of a walk to the dining hall, so they certainly are outdoors for the walk there and back 3x per day. As for the camp, the emphasis IS on building and improving fundamentals, without which more advanced elements won;t be as successful. So there are lots of repetitive ball-handling drills, shooting drills, etc. That how acquiring skills works. If your kid is more advanced, they place them with other advanced kids...so your superstar isnt going to be grouped with newbie players. Some kids attend with buddies, some do not. On occasion, my girl has been a little lonely, at other times, shes made a bunch friends she still is in touch with. It just depends on the type of kids at any given camp. Regardless, shes so busy & so tired at night, that theres not really any opportunity to dwell on others. I would highly recommend. I feel like its a good value, and a great experience. Most of all, my kid chooses to return year after year, so I guess her endorsement is worth more than mine. :)

Wish there was a camp like this for boys. It is so well organized, good skill work and a lot of play. Third year for us, my daughter loves it.

My daughter had a wonderful experience at the Doug Bruno camp. She learned a ton about basketball, but also about responsibility and maturity living in the Dorm while she was there!

My daughter loves basketball but did not like this camp at all. Her roommate found it so poor that she left after 1 day. According to my daughter, there is an excessive amount of coach Bruno hearing he sound of his own voice- with kids sitting very bored as he lectures every morning. The kids are not allowed outside nor windows open for 3 days. On last day, there is a “show” with a song from 1980s, apparently the same song he’s used for decades as a mom friend later told me Bruno used it when she was a kid (and she wouldn’t let her daughter go to his camp as she hated it so much). “Show” appeared to be all about the coach showing us his own talent at controlling kids by having them follow commands as he shouted out things. It looked very robotic & impersonal. I would not recommend this camp to anyone. It needs serious updating. College coaches were only saving grace.

Hi, I’d like to leave my experience at DBC right here. And if you are on the fence about sending your daughter there, then please read this.Well as a person who went to this camp. I’d like to say it is amazing. Coach Bruno is very good at what he does and so are his assistants. The dorms are pretty nice (except not all mattresses are super comfy, but still really good). During this time you get a lot of fun and excersice in a short span of time. You get to practice and play competitively. There is also other options of things to do when you aren’t in the gym. Like swimming, going to the Doug Bruno shop, hang out in your dorm, and watching TV for some relaxation time out in the hall. I can say you really make new friends at this place as well, with teammates and people in dorms around you there are so many people to eat. And you get tons of food options (very good By the way). The only thing I wish they had was a fire procedure especially for little ones. But overall they do review safety and other things. So I can say that Doug Bruno Camp way a fun experience I will attend again and would recommend to just about anybody who like basketball. Thanks for reading!!-KicksonePing

My Daughter attended camp this year and last and she will never go back! This camp is very unsafe. Anyone can get into the facilities, including the dorms! For example, the building and dorms are massive and they do not conduct a fire drill. There is no check out procedure - so anyone can just take a kid. They parade the kids across campus with their Bruno Shirts on so all outsiders are aware of where they are. When I first tried to talk to the assistant coaches about my concerns, they kept saying they have been doing this for 30 years. Times have changed and we live in an unsafe world, yet they make no attempt to implement necessary safety procedures for our girls sake. The Dorm mom ratio is 70 campers to 1. This year the Dorm mom on my daughters floor brought her two young children with her. There were homesick, crying campers everywhere and the Dorm Mom makes no attempt to help them. The basketball instruction is ok but most of the time the girls have to sit around so Bruno can hear himself talk. There were injuries and illnesses with no calls home to parents. It was a nightmare and I am just praying it didnt completely turn my daughter off to ever going to another overnight sports camp. My overall impression is that Dougs self promotion and the staffs lack of concern for campers well being (particularly the younger ones - they take 7 year olds) trumps any concern for our girls safety. I would highly encourage parents not to send their girls to this camp!
